I remember about 27 years ago I went to dinner with my then girlfriends parents, on the way home her Mother told a story just like this.
Long winded and it went absolutely NOWHERE.
Just a suggestion, Jack. On this channel we use the phrase, "My (girlfriend/wife/whatever) at the time! I don't know why, but it does get people's attention? LOL❗
@ Greg can think of one particular V-W guest that applies too...
Was the mother as rich as this storyteller?
In 2004 I was in Iraq on patrol around the green zone, sadr city area and we pulled in front of a mechanic shop. There was a burned-out car in the street and it was a Ferrari 550. Nothing Ferrari identifying at all, emblems, engine, Vin gone. Body panels all still there except doors and trunk lid. Spoke to the owner of the shop and he said it was uday's and the people burned it right there. I searched for something I could take that would identify it but was unsuccessful. Had some major that was on patrol with us take a picture of me in it and he was supposed to send me the pictures. Never received them. Somewhere out there, their is a picture of me sitting in Udays Ferrari.
How do u feel now about the Iraqi war? Have u come to your senses yet years after?

Imagine thinking you’re going to Iraq for an F40 and thinking it’s going to be easy
For THAT F40 too lol
It more like ANY F40 and getting it easy... Even if you had 1.2 million burning in your pocket, it's exactly easy to find a F40...
Almost cute
@@TheCoolDave there's one in the Ferrari dealer near me
When did he say he thought it was going to be easy? My impression was he knew it was going to be very difficult getting it out but naively went over there believing he'd be getting it cheap enough due to its poor condition to pay off anyone that stood in his way. Can you imagine how badly this F40 was treated? Omg i can only just imagine.
Having been born and raised in Iraq, I wouldn’t even attempt to buy this thing.
I can appreciate the ambition, but if you thought this was going to be a 200k car with an easy process, you have officially lost your mind.
Great story though!
Hey!! Same here. بالحدود انعلس
What about it being in Iraq makes it so difficult to get out of the country?

Bit of a boring story with an anticlimactic ending really. Reminds me of that weird guy you see at the pub telling stories of what his life should have been.
I was in the area that car was in Iraq in 2005. It was in rough shape then. It was very close to where Hussein kept a private reserve of animals that were neglected and eventually escaped. Thanks for bringing that memory back.
Thanks Ed and VinWiki for sharing the F40 story. It was an amazing treasure hunt for my favourite car. Update video on my channel as the car has now left Iraq !!
Not much of a story really

Same.
Uday Hussein's car collection was mentioned in a phenomenal military podcast called 'Combat stories', retired Sgt Major John (Shrek) McPhee aka the infamous "sherriff of Baghdad" told the tale in his 2nd or 3rd appearance on the podcast. The man is an ex Delta operator and the absolute real deal, he brazenly exposed the very cloak and dagger saga. The best and bulk of the collection was all sold off illegally by some Green Beret SF team who needed to raise funds to finance the liberation of Iraq, no questions asked kinda cash for paying off officials and bribing warlords, buying friends etc. Selling the collection was easier than involving the Pentagon officially. He said the vehicles all went to private collectors, mainly in Europe from memory. Exported secretly via the SF group. Germany was mentioned iirc. They'll likely mostly be long in circulation by now, who knows, they got sold quick and cheap and with no questions asked! The dirty money was used in dirtier ways to achieve success in a very dirty business called war. Don't believe there are still supercars buried in the desert, some very switched on fellas took care of the lot and surely will be smiling on a tropical beach somewhere now, perhaps, I hope they kept a chunk for a rainy day? All this was actually just a tiny part of a bigger and better story big Shrek was telling about greasing the cogs of war during a far away conflict and bending all the rules to get a job done. Fascinating guy and I recommend you listen. Amazing eh?
So I wonder why they blew up Uday’s Lamborghini LM002?
@@reeceracing123 because who tf wants a lm002 might as well do something cool to it
John McPhee was never a Major General. He was a Sgt. Major. Also, a lot of what he's discussed has been embellished or discredited outright.
@@deadaimcarlos I quickly googled him while typing that up, to check his rank and that was what I saw. So it's me who embellished his rank (now edited from Major General to Sgt major) via a half assed un-thorough 10 second fact check. It's been over a year since I saw the podcast, gimme a break lol. War stories from various sources are always challenged by other sources. The fog of war. It's easy to have a different opinion of an identical event from another perspective in a moment, I doubt anybody could misinterpret a whole complicated drawn out timeframe and logistical masterpiece that liberating a fleet of supercars from a war zone would involve? I hope Ed can get in touch with McPhee via SOB Tactical and get the man himself on Vinwiki to talk about it. I feel like it's not a story that much more detail can be given about. Because repercussions. But hey... Shrek doesn't give a flying f**k what anybody says or thinks about him, he'd be the best guest ever! It'd be a very tricky edit for Ed but it would be absolute gold!
This sounds very , VERY interesting.
this is definitely a man after my own heart!

When I saw the tittle I knew it was Scott.
There’s also a Turkish article about this car. It has been shipped to Istanbul at some point in its life for a long due service. Official Ferrari dealership in Istanbul runs VIN through the system and it comes up as stolen from Kuwait. Car gets confiscated by the police and sits in a yard for about a year or so and no one claims it. After a few court cases, the car taken back by the importer who temporarily imported it to Turkey for service. I’m pretty sure someone out there should be able to tell the technicality of the whole Istanbul story or i can pull some Turkish newspapers from archives.

I'd rather have a car with a cool story than one that sits. 😆 imagine that as a conversation piece "this was Sadams F40".
It wasn't Sadams it was his despicable sons, that raped killed and tortured many people. I wouldn't even want something he owned.
Uday's
actually it belonged to Uday Hussein
Saddam’s psychotic son

I was just about to say "I bet it was Erbil" when he said it. Erbil is actually a big beautiful city. Apparently a rich city too.
I imagine it was in Mosul or Tikrit, and was moved to Erbil.
Erbil remained mostly stable throughout the war.

I always wondered that myself! I know, early in the movie, he drives a Mondial....I would be shocked if Uday was in one of those. However, later on he has a 348 Spider which was 1000% a car I could see him in

This guy said the same story around 5 times. This video should have only lasted 4 minutes.
Nonsense word soup. This guy is making it all up.
What is the point of this story? He came nowhere as close anyone else to the car yet he frames as if had some secret exclusive access to the car. At least with Ed's CGT story, he had an access no one else seemed to have, yet on this boring ass story, not only it goes nowhere with the plot, but also completly lacks any context to the car itself.
This was a cool story! The Hussein connection reminds me of an episode of Past Gas from Donut Media where they talked about this collection

The movie "Three Kings" with an automotive twist.
For those of you that may innocently wonder into a video about Uday. I advise the faint of heart to steer clear. To put it shortly, he was such a monster that even Sadam himself chose to remove Uday's birth right to his doctatorship. If Sadam thinks you are a monster, you know that you're really really messed up.
I dont have the funds but speaking of f40s there are still likely several of those cars still in brunei. Now recent stories showed his mclaren f1 gt going to the UK.
