I can't even begin to fathom the thought process behind "Hey, I've managed to get this one-off custom by Pininfarina f40 in a colour literally no one else has, because one-off custom by Pininfarina for the sultan of Brunei. So let's, you know, spray it red because Ferrari's ought to be red, all the others are!". Like, while they aren't exactly an everyday car there are literally hundreds of red ones out there...
Exactly! If they want a Ferrari as they 'intended to be' then just buy one like that. It's not like the configurations weren't tasteful
thought the same thing! these custom F40s have to be worth a shitload of money with that kind of history!
I kinda feel the opposite. if someone bought a supercar so rare it was basically already one of a kind and customized it in any way other than a rap I would feel like it's a total waste of the car. But hey that's just my opinion
@@sirishmisthry8462 Were the work done by any other company than Pininfarina I'd have to agree with you. But this is the company that designed the thing in the first place, which makes them as close as you can get to a factory custom with these machines - which would make them quite priceless and converting them to "standard" a bit pointless as they were never really standard in the first place (well, they were the whole way from the Ferrari workshop to the Pininfarina one) and by doing so you'd be effectively erasing their history.
made me think of a VINWIKI episode concerning the color of a vehicle (it was black) and the person asking for it wanted red. But the person only said "This can be red."

Nick chill
Nick no one cares snowflake
Nick, I’ll see myself out 🧥 😂
As long as they are being taken care of and not “neglected”, I don’t really care. They’re not my cars. It is nice to think that someday these cars will emerge and we will get to see what these F40s were like new, but decades later. Think of it as saving them for a future generation.
I guess they have so much money that makes them loose their senses. They just love to show off. It's unmannerliness. I don't think that they're caring these cars and preserving in full condition. I bet they already forgot about these cars.
Porter McSorley kinda annoying that’s he hoards them all tho
Porter McSorley underrated comment.
They are hoarding them. I guarantee you they just sitting there rotten in dust with 0 miles on the clock.
sitting is neglect.
Who would repaint such legendary specs that were unique? If he wanted a red over red he could have just bought a normal one
....
well it's his money so
But they wouldn´t be RHD cars
He paid, for all I care he paints them pink and glues a barbiedol on the hood.
They were probably repainted red like 10-15 years ago when they werent worth as much, and the owner would just want a "normal" f40. And the cars were probably cheaper than a normal red one because they were "modified" - But today, 10-15 years later, they would probaby be more expensive because of the story. The car market today is very strange.
Modern better quality paint would be one of my reasons
I think it's hilarious that in the early 2000s, collectors wanted the most basic specs. Rosso Crosa with tan interior. Now, collectors want the most unique, and rarest specs. If they kept the yellow car yellow, it would be worth at least 50% more
Ferraris still tend to do best overall Rosso with tan as there are generally more people who want that. However the rare unique specs do well because they're rare from factory. Modified ones don't tend to be that much more valuable as it lacks that crucial authenticity and provenance. You can always respray and customise the interior yourself. But a one off factory special, that carries some weight. The only thing here is that it's Pininfarina doing the work. Any other F40 modified like this even by a decent high end shop would lose value.
@@jacklondon7873 right. These are special because of Pinnifarina. Very few aftermarket mods would increase the value of a supercar
Alot of manufacturers did not like deviating from the specs there brand was associated. On Vin Wiki RUclips channel there is a video of a Gallardo Supperlaggera where it was a unique colour and Edd talks about how manufacturers only wanted you to get i.e Ferrari, Red or Yellow and Lambo was Orange, Lime Green etc...
@@JJROADSTA yeah but they did that because it's what sold. Rosso corsa is sometimes called "resale red", because it usually has the highest resale value.
@@JJROADSTA That's for their dealers in their area. Obviously dealers want to sell what's already there.
I'm from Brunei and I can honestly say I've never seen any of these cars on the road. So it's safe to assume that they're most likely still in storage
As a 51 year old I am so glad they exist in the first place. The 80's/90's super cars are my era. However I feel it's a crying shame so many are locked away. I once saw a Ducati 851 Super bike (New out at the time) being ridden through London in the snow. We were like dude it's snowing. He said "If I just wanted to look at it, I'd have bought a Picasso."
I'll never forget that saying.
We need someone to raid Sultan Brunei’s dream garage and release those beauty beast😤

One is actually in the UK and was owned by the late great Jimmy Saville. It had custom body panels added which disguised it to look exactly like the humble Vauxhall Astra, and it was repainted as beige over brown (luxury velour). After Jimmy was found out to be a bit of a lad, the car was uncovered, given a £15 mini valet at the local Polish car wash (during which 4 pairs of suspiciously small underpants were found under the passenger seat), and sent to Bradford car auctions. Unsurprisingly, due to its understated nature, there was little bidding interest to begin with. But once knowledge of the underseat treasure trove was made public, bidding went throught the roof. The hammer dropped at £350 and the mystery buyer was said to be planning to use it to deliver takeaways. So if you're in the Bradford area and you order a curry that gets there in a hurry, savour it, as it may have been delivered in the famous Saville F40.
Haha this is an extremely underrated comment
There are so many incredible cars around the world that have never been seen or have never been driven. I work at Brabus and I get to see a lot of crazy cars and crazy customers who tell stories about their cars. You wouldn’t believe where In the world you can find insane car collections that nobody knows about. For example some of the poorest countries in Africa have Paganis, Koenigsegg or Bugatti’s. Or Turkmenistan, Tadschikistan or even our dear friend Kim Jong-un in North Korea. You wouldn’t believe it.

Amazing work. I’ve always wondered about those F40’s. “Eternal storage” and “prison” is how I see these cars too, so sad
Isn't this the voice of the guy who got fired by Top Gear, Rory?
Yup it's him
Imagine going to a foreign country find a building in the middle of now where flicking the lights on and seeing 8 Ferrari f40s just sitting there gives me goosebumps thinking about it
2:25 how is that "borderline deranged"
He's justflexing his vocabulary. Way over the top.
Raditya Indera :))
For a 2.9 liter stock internals...that's a lot of torque.
Simply the age of the car.
Why is that even a question worth asking? No one truly cares mate. Dry your eyes.
I imagine these cars being found after an apocalypse like in the movies. Inside a garage below somewhere all dusty but still brand new, never used and roads so messed up that you cant drive them anymore.
When Coronavirus takes over I would definitely raid Brunei for a nice F40
The F40 still looks gorgeous today!
Change my mind.
Your not wrong there, todays Ferrari just look rubbished
288 gto looks better though
F50?
Make a video about the BMW M3 GTR Street Edition cars that we never saw.
2:30 "Borderline deranged" 480 lbs ft of torque. The 1992 Viper made 465 from the factory. In 1996, the Viper made 490 in stock trim -- by the last gen it was up to 600. That was all from a naturally aspirated motor.
2.8 liter basically stock car from the 80's, yeah the viper was cheaper but this is a ferrari, supposed to kill you in laxury and style, the viper was not only older, had double the size of engine, was probably double the weight, but generally was just made to kill you
Yeah, with almost 3 times more displacement
I've been twice in Brunei Darussalam. It is very interesting and special after landing to see outside the hangars (garage) of the cars and.... is not possible to visit it. I don't want to imagine if the Sultan decides to open a museum.
Perhaps in 100 years time they'll make a guest appearance at a car show.
The future deserves its fair share of wonder.
I am happy that they still exist
So we are going to ignore The fact that he said “The Emerald Green F40 with Emerald Green Interior.”😍 Sounds luxury 1:43
One of my favourite cars of all time. It's disgusting that they got that so much money that they don't drive them or anything. If I had that sort of money I'd be driving everywhere in it.
Imagine being able to afford a couple of f40s!! I cant even afford a few beers right now
I'm in love with that grey F40- don't know why you'd paint it back to the red when this was a legit job done by Pininfarina. Glad to see its back to that beautiful spec!
About month ago saw "stock" F40 on M4 entering London, one thing is for sure, nothing about that car is stock or ordinary,to see it on the road is a extreme spectacle.

Keep em coming guys loving these stories
I had a giant poster of this car on my wall as a kid, it was red though.
If I had that many I’d keep 2 or 3 and drive the rest, I wish that was the story, sad really..
A moment of silence for the F40 that caught fire in Monoco. 😢
Ferrari shouldn't sell to people who lock them in grages
That’s like 95% of buyers though
I’ve saw a right hand drive Ferrari F40 in Singapore many years ago, I didn’t believe my eyes. Good job Car Throttle👍🏽
I absolutely hate the fact that cars like this are just collector items. The F40 offers one of the most hardcore driving experiences out there yet these are only driven after a service. F40s deserve more than that.
Imagine if Brunei suddenly did a press release opening these garages up to the public…

Well Sultan of Brunei, if you have an F40 you don"t need anymore I would be glad to come over and get it, thanks 👍

Can we take a moment to appreciate the in-depth analysis of this legendary car?
when i was this early ethan had a prius
I think it should be considered a criminal act to repaint a Ferrari a completely different color after purchase. There's no way to replicate the method used by the factory and the car will never be the same.
I am literely crying right now.
Setting those cars free could be the plot to the next fast and furious movie
It's a bit of both, I'm glad that someone had a F40 painted in forest green, but it's bittersweet knowing it won't be used on roads other than for maintenance.
im hurt .but ikr brunei royalty got the biggest collection of car in asia.everyone know he got 2 storage size of like 4 football field of cars.

That´s often how the super rich behave while not giving a f*** about the poor.
Well capitalism is superior to socialism for sure.
the Sultan ownes more than 7000 cars
Well it appears you don’t know how to spend money anyway... maybe it’s for the best!
(Un)popular opinion: BOTH, the Sultan and the owners who drive their F40's around the track are all doing us the same favor - the owners that film the laps (i.e. let Chris Harris film in their cars) are showing us what theses unattainable cars are like, while the Sultan stores them indefinitely as the pieces of art that they are.
The thing is that the Royal family of Brunei used to drive the F40's, they stopped driving them in the early 2000's because the money they used to purchase the cars were not supposed to be used for personal use.
More videos like this love them!

Nobody needs more than 10 of the same Ferrari model along with multiple other hypercars which never get used.
I don't think many of us dream of being him. Most people would dream of having just one of those very special cars and actually caring for it and using it, not ruining it with absurd specifications and never even bothering to use it, keeping it away in some stinking garage for it to rot and never be seen or admired by anyone.

Not really true, some cars are still being sold in decent condition
Such a sad tragic story. RIP F40’s.

Petition?
War!
=)
Petition!? Don't you mean *heist?* XD Say you wanted to steal the whole supercar collection of Brunei, you would need 1 cargo ship, 1 fully loaded Mi-24 to eliminate any ground armor, and 2 Mi-8 for rapid transit from ship to the garages, and as many Americans with 50lbs of ammo as the number of cars you are taking, you could arrive and be leaving with the cars in under 30 minutes... Brunei only has one actual "city" and the whole country is smaller than Chicago.
To invade a country, crush their military, and steal everything of value is pretty easy with a little planning and the right gear. Alternately 2 747 cargo planes configured for 2 level loading could be used if you were going full supervillain mega-heist in-out-gone smash-and-grab at lightning speed. If the Fast and Furious could do it, so could anyone! XD
Hey I just wanted to support you so I watched a full 1 minute 30 seconds add for you.keep up the good word

If only i could remember the Vin Diesel quote from Fast and Furious 7 with the Lykan Hypersport
If he bought all, these kept them in perfect shape all this time the money he could get and will get year a from now would be crazy
It's pretty ironic that this is posted only a couple of hours after an F40 burnt down to a crisp in Monaco
The fact is, they might stay in brunei till the whole garage is abandoned, and a different generation will be able to have them, think of it as "saving" it for another one
But the fact the garage will be never be abandoned because after sultan dies, it pass and pass and pass down until one of the royal family member is a car lover
