  • Cooking meat on charcoals and making birch leaf tea and blueberry leaf tea - an Easy Outdoors Solo Bushcraft Episode.
To build a quick fire, you have to go step by step. First gather a punch of try spruce twigs, a decent amount of pencil size twigs, finger size twigs, wrist size twigs etc. until you come to logs. Then make base for your fire. From logs or bigger twigs or even from cones. It does not matter. It’s purpose is to separate your fire from the ground. Then put the try spruce twigs onto your base and light them. As the flame rises, add bigger twigs. When the fire is big enough, you can place your logs in to the fire.
Pine and spruce burns too quickly and the wood does not produce decent amount of coals for grilling meat. Or vegetables or other produce you like. The solution to this particular problem is cones. Just gather enough spruce or pine cones (or both) and place them into your fire pit. Make a small fire on top of them and soon you can start cooking your outdoors meal. Just grab your outdoor cooking utensils and you are ready to go!
One of the simplest methods to cook meat outdoors is on charcoal. Cut the meat into slices, season it with whatever you like and place on charcoals. After couple of minutes (depending on how rare you want the meat) turn the slices and wait another couple of minutes. Then remove the meat from the coals.
You can eat birch leaves raw, use them in salads or make some birch leaf tea. For the tea, pick the leaves in spring and early summer while they are still a fresh bright green. They can be used fresh in season or dried for later. To make the tea, use 4 or 5 leaves per cup or mug of boiling water, and allow to infuse for 5 to 10 minutes. Birch leaves are known to be rich in vitamin C, flavonoids, tannins and sesquiterpenes. Birch leaf tea is used for general detoxing, urinary complaints, cystitis, rheumatic and arthritic troubles, and gout.
Related to the cranberry, the blueberry bush is known for a host of health benefits. Rich in Vitamin C, blueberry leaf tea is said to help ward off colds, flus, and sore throats. Blueberry leaf tea is also said to relieve internal inflammation, lower triglycerides, and control blood pressure.

A true master with fire, you sure know how to use matches to start a fire. The meat looks so good cooked that way. Good teas also, Thanks for sharing.

Indeed, it took a while to master the matches :D But on the other hand, if they work, why complicate your life with other means? The meat was delicious, the teas were worth trying.
