    One small, but vital component of all shelter builds involves ... what toilet arrangements? Dugout, then fully filled in? Concerns about all this recreational chopping, hacking up our Wildlands worldwide ooooodles of internet "players" ... and drawing oooooodles as days pass. Like the "tiny house" movement, it began humbly, to remedy a real need , but has rapidly morphed into smallish dream homes for oooooodles of "retirees"/Boomers 'down-sizing(?) All the real Humble folks are always forgotten/unconsidered. Worth some sober introspection by us all.🕊️🌷🙏

      He's not. He's going home to sleep in his bed as soon as the video is over. He's not going to stay even halfway warm in that. The roof is far too thin and it can't hold in any heat the way it is made. The roof is upside down, any melt is coming right in. Not down the outside. It's backwards, any snow melt is going to drip right in.

    For the life of me I’ll never understand why you don’t cover the frame with a tarp or plastic before layering with limbs.

    • @mpmansell
      @mpmansell 7 месяцев назад +3

      Multiple possible reasons: no tarp; no need for a short while and no wish to damage the tarp or work hard to retrieve it ( after all, is a good emergency shelter when no chance to build better); enough boughs and debris will prevent a lot of precipitation, just like thatching; and the biggest two for me is to avoid condensation and smoke/tar damage to the tarp with an internal fire

    • @dhhwg2661

    You know dang well he didn't stay there all night. The wood skills were ok, but putting up a tarp teepee would have been a lot easier and quicker. Everyone wants those tiny pack stoves that you can only fill with kindling. Build a teepee with a smoke flap and dig a 14 inch deep pit roughly 16 inches in diameter in the center to burn actual wood that way you won't have to feed a tiny kindling stove all night.
