YCImaging Quick question brother. When in doors or even outdoors what light source do you use? I'm trying to figure out what studio lamp I can get for the best type of light source in my shots along with a diffuser for an easy switch between soft and hard light.
Hi Logan, Lumu Light Meter app has built-in Spot metering mode as well, and it can be used without any additional hardware from Lumulabs. App is completely free and was actually featured by the Apple a couple of months ago. Go give it a spin: itunes.apple.com/us/app/lumu-light-meter/id730969737?mt=8 With Lumulove, Marko.
Awesome advice. You explain everything really well. I've been using all of those things for years now but the one that I haven't tried yet was the light meter. Mainly because it was expensive but also it confuses me on how it works. I understand that it gives you a read out of what settings to have to expose the light properly. But I don't understand how this works for the camera as each camera is completely different depending on the size and sensitivity of the chip. So surely if I entered what the light meter says into say my GH5, it's going to be different to if I had an A7sii? Awesome video the mate!
So informative. I just downloaded the Filmic Pro app for some novice iPhone + Gimbal videography I’m trying to do, and i had no idea what the purpose of the “zebras” and other exposure features actually were. Thanks!
I shoot with a Nikon D5600. The camera isn't very well suited for video, so a live histogram isn't available. So something I do before rolling is take a still of the comp and then check the histo in the preview screen. I'm just a beginner of course, but it's something that's helped. Thank you for the video!
I'm thnking about getting the Rode RodeLink FM Digital Wireless Filmmaker System (two of them) to do interviews on the fly. Do you ever get any issues with them out in the field?
Cool didn't know about that light meter as I've been using my Sekonic L‑358 forever but just recently been thinking about getting more serious about recording videos so I may need to check that one out. You sold me on the Kelvin part...
Sometimes I'm not sure whether to slightly underexpose my subject and keep the background exposed properly, or have my subject properly exposed and have the background looking funky 🤷♂️ like.. they looks bit too dark, but if I fix them the background looks way bad . :/
A video on the waveforms in the GH5 would be great. I've been shooting on the GH5 since April and always have the waveform monitor on. I've constantly found myself in situations where waveform monitor gets really hard to read due to the lighting situation outside or inside a shop.
hey if you read comments. did you start at first more interested in camera work (pre composite) or possibly being able to using others footage and you control the FX editing etc. just curious...
YC awesome work as always team is always telling me to purchase a light meter I've looked into a few but never took the leap and I'm the one who's always complaining that my images are too dark I appreciate this one thanks for the link Donte909
Anyone please, what camera would give you a smoother cinematic look, full frame or crop sensors,or those it also depends on the kind of lens? #beginnerlearner
Hi i like your work im noobie in this game .i have an osmo with a zenmuse x3 and would like to buy a zenmuse x5r is it good idea for making some footage or i buy a dslr? thx sorry for my english im french peace
Hi YCImaging. Thank you for your videos they have helped me out so much in my Film making journey. There is one thing that i have not been able to master and that is setting my Kalven Temp for my shots when im recording in Slog." How to Set My Tempretur?" they alway come out way to orangy looking when i try to color grade.
Great info! I didn't know the GH5 added a Luma Waveform and Vectorscope option. Also just learned you can upload a 3D LUT and send output to an external monitor which is great for log shooting and real time LUT rendering. Those are all great tools for any level videographer to control exposure, color saturation, and looks. All that's missing is the RGB parade. The Lumu Power looks nice and super convenient (portable)...not to mention the ability to read K temp, but $299 seems high considering you're using your phone for the display/controls. In comparison, I've been using the Sekonic LITEMASTER PRO L-478D with color LCD touchscreen and that alone cost me $299. It also has a built-in wireless trigger to control my strobes. I'm not advocating any specific product, simply touching base on price. I'd say the Lumu wins in "portability" for sure. If the cost was lower, I'd get one.
Love your videos. That light meter you have, actually it looks like you have an incident light meter. I used to use that type by placing it where my subject is to measure the light landing in that area. Direct light meters are used by pointing it at the subject to measure the light reflecting from the subject.
Nail your exposure, it's important!
Richard Widmark Jr Yeah that's exactly what you're suppose to do, I was giving a demonstration of the kelvin readout and didn't have a subject.
Every time I come to ur channel you impress and inform me and I appreciate you're work

Nice video and thank you YC . love from Turkey.
Ty man. You should also check out spot metering if you shoot music photos/ videos.

Is there also a light meter for Android devices this small?
That light meter add on is super convenient 🤔 pricey as all video accessories are tho
Thank you. Most Def helped me. I will start using the functions right away.
Never knew about the light meter thanks
Ur intros and outros consistently get better!

How about shooting in S_Log shouldn't you be over exposed by 2 stops?
Toney Franco Yeah I overexpose by 2 stops
This is one of the best videos on exposure I've ever seen. Thank you.
thankyou for this man!
Man these are great tips! I get so frustrated when getting back home and find that that ideal shot was not correctly exposed.
Mannnnnn, that was awesomely great! As you said some things maybe self explanatory but not others. Thank you very much!

I'm thnking about getting the Rode RodeLink FM Digital Wireless Filmmaker System (two of them) to do interviews on the fly. Do you ever get any issues with them out in the field?

Love your work man keep it up one question for music videos what do you prefer shooting with vlog cinelike D or cinelike V ?
Think you might have forgot to mention False color as a tool. hands down my personal favorite for exposing an image.
Thanks for the great work you provide! You rock
LIGHT METER...THUMBS UP...wait the LINK IS NOT LISTED

One tip for waveforms is to expose skin just above the middle line.
BAM!!!! the most important video watched since i started to learn on my own, im cussing with excitement. thanks for making this video man!
hey if you read comments.
did you start at first more interested in camera work (pre composite) or possibly being able to using others footage and you control the FX editing etc. just curious...
that light meter is pretty cool, anything for android users?
YC awesome work as always team is always telling me to purchase a light meter I've looked into a few but never took the leap and I'm the one who's always complaining that my images are too dark I appreciate this one thanks for the link Donte909
That's why if you have the luxury of shooting raw you still have to expose properly, but you have so much more freedom in post.
When did you get your Rodelink Filmaker System?

That audio is super crispy tho! #GoodVibes #DymeDigital
You near Indiana? I need a video friend 🤣😩
But how do you perfectly expose your sky and subject though?

nice video well made it . thumbs up
Thanks for those tips! Very helpful!
but the price point is bit ridiculous for the item, anything between $100- $150 would have made sense.
Inhousentertainment Just went with what I owned, if that makes sense.
