    Love the Keep Your Sky notes. When I was first starting out, I was always taught to expose for my subject, so if people were standing in a sky shot I would try to expose for their faces rather than the sky. But that's not how we see things with our real eyes, and so I eventually learned that it's okay if your subjects aren't "perfectly" exposed all the time. Sometimes it's okay to let them slip into the environment.

      @RHStevens1986 Год назад +2

      I was taught that same lesson, but it was because we were selling photos of people to those same people, and people want to see their face. It makes money, but it doesn't often make art.

    for the first tip a game changer for me that's super cheap but helps in almost every situation is a 5 in 1 reflector i usually shoot mini docs ets and when shooting outdoor interviews you can keep sky exposed correctly while using the reflector to keep subject lit up etc or diffuse depending on scenario

    I like it. youre smooth and these are solid tips. im subbed. ll never forget having a loooong conversation with a DP about shadows. and he told me "why are you trying to burn the shadows away? they are your friend, use your light to create shadows. they tell the story." and went on to tell me about how Michelangelo said when he sculpted stone he said "I just remove the pieces that don't belong there" and its like that with the shadows. remove the parts of the light that dont belong there. its trippy man

    I really love the shot with the brother in the orange shirt facing towards the smaller 1/3 of the frame towards the left. Its such a great intentional use of that kind of composition. It make it feel spiritual. like hes having a conversation with the Divine.
    beautiful shots all around and i learned alot. Happy to be a new subscriber.

    The first point reminded me of a drawing tutorial i saw a while back.
    When drawing with shadows, it’s ok if not all the features of the subject are seen. It’s better to shade a part of the face and end up “blocking” features to make the sketch look natural vs forcing the viewer the see the eyes or nose or mouth

    If your lights can't out power the sun light coming through the window, it's a good idea to invest in some ND Gels and reduce the amount of light coming through the window. That way your lights will have more impact

    This video is amazing! I love how YC shares practical tips to enhance cinematography without having to buy new gear. His suggestions are incredibly valuable, especially keeping the sky properly exposed and working on shot composition. Additionally, the emphasis on choosing the right stabilizer is spot on. These tips will truly make a difference in my future filmmaking projects. Thank you for sharing your expertise and knowledge!"
    Question about the content: "Regarding the suggestion of keeping the sky properly exposed, could you provide a practical example of how to adjust the position of the sun within the frame to achieve that effect? What is your preferred approach for maintaining a balance between subject lighting and capturing sky details in challenging situations?
