- Blacks in Fiji can trace their roots for thousands of years back to the Lake Tanganyika area in East Africa.
Lake Tanganyika is an African Great Lake. It is the second-oldest freshwater lake in the world, the second-largest by volume, and the second-deepest, in all cases after Lake Baikal in Siberia. It is the world's longest freshwater lake. The lake is shared between four countries-Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Burundi, and Zambia, with Tanzania (46%) and DRC (40%) possessing the majority of the lake. It drains into the Congo River system and ultimately into the Atlantic Ocean.

What caught my attention is that the women seem to carry their hair natural, those with the Afro hair, though not sure if that is the norm in that environment 🤔
Bula!! Yes it's the norm here in Fiji. We even carry combs with us in our bags to do touch ups if needed 😂. We're very proud of our hair. But there are times when we'll switch it up just for fun but it's quite comon to see older women with natural hair. It's only been recently that more younger women have embraced the natural look.

I had to do a research task, and I picked the melanesian community in suva. Apparently, suva is a tourist spot. I wouldn't of known except for the TEN pages of google websites telling me this as i tried to find an interview from a local. I gave up and decided to youtube it, so I'll probably be referencing this for my year 12 sociology assignment here in australia. Thank you for being my reference material.

Hello, an average cost of a room in Suva is around FJD$100/night. To rent a house is around $500 to $2000 per month. Hope that helps

Yes that's true but in Fiji's Case , there Fijians with origins to China just as our connections to Taiwan. Fijians though came through a different route way earlier but not in one heat. Their migration pack settled along the way. As for our Fiji Chinese vendors, they came after we Fijians settled in Fiji. Just as it was with the indian's. Nothing wrong with that either except we came way before them. All are considered Fijians. But we use DNA proof and linguistics connections to point out who is who in the whole pack than just Quote:/ "Cannot deny the fact that they are all over the world." Unquote/

For your information my friend , Fijians don't have roots in Africa. DNA and it's language points to Taiwan. Fijians use the Tagalog vowels when they speak. It's origins trace back to Asia namely Taiwan. This vowels is strongly used in Japan as well. The Tagalog vowels which is also used across the Polynesia archipelago is (A,E,I,O,U) which for a start does not exist in any part of Africa. Secondly , our DNA which is the ultimate proof shows no direct link to Africa but Asia and the South Pacific and in most cases , Amazon. If there was any DNA link , then it would probably be a one off night stand type thing. People in Fiji are not well informed of this issue because they rely on hear say stories over kava or similar type setting and make decisions based on similar vowel sounds as suggested with the "Tanganyika" fib where in our language, it's pronounced " Tagani-ika).Two separate words describing fish in a sack and not one straight word which would have sound Taqanika (Notice the "Q" in this spelling) as oppose to the above from Africa. Our DNA points to Asia where our numbers are so similar to that of Taiwan , Filipinas , down to Indonesia. None of it exist in any part of Africa. Our double decked canoes in the past use to carry more than 3000 men and women. Their features probably changed somewhere between Indonesia and Melanesia. Though Fijians look like Melanesian's,( Dark Skinned ) their culture and language are that of Polynesia.(Lighter Skinned) Melanesians don't have chiefly systems and protocols as those in Polynesia like The Kingdom Tonga for an example. Melanesia just have like some sort of a headman's of its group similar to a chief but that's all there is to it, A chief. Watching this video makes me sad because of the mis information these market vendors are carrying around as if it's true when It's not. That tour guide lady was totally oblivious to the potential damage she could be causing us Fijians to the outside world. Govt needs to put laws in place to control those type's of promotions where an inexperienced individual is involved. I am saying this from a sincere heart who has business interest in Fiji as well. I have shown this video to friends and so far one even responded with disgust and said that lady doesn't even know the Fintel building but she knows how to rot a tourist. On the same token, your video is the first where I've seen someone mention the term 'Black" Fijians. It's usually Melanesians or Polynesians. We weren't slaves in history but fierce warriors who established itself in Fiji some thousand years back and which was called" Fisi" by the Tongans or "Viti" in Fijian. These three countries are related one way or the other, Samoa, Tonga and Fiji. I hope this should shed some light as who we truly we are as Fijians. Have nothing against Africans either but rather not allow people carrying on fib hear say stories where it has become somewhat real to those market vendors. Nice history of our roots and where we came from. There are so many conflicting theories about our origin and where we came from. Archeologically proven that we came from Vanuatu. Prof Paddy Nunn whose research on lapita is accepted now as our transition out from Vanuatu to Viti. Beyond that is unknown. Yet this is after the tukuni and legends passed through generations that we came from Africa.
Now with the new technological system to trace where you come from it is much easier to know your roots. Forensic technology introduced us to the DNA . But DNA could still be inaccurate based on what is fed into the devise. For example if one is using Ancestry DNA to know his/her identity the requirement is to complete a questionnaire. Your full name, ethnicity , sex, DOB, parents identity etc. All these info would then be fed into a database along with your specimen. If someone is falsifying his/her data the outcome obviously is wrong in spite of the specimen given. I would rather need more clarity on what type of DNA testing is used on tracking our roots.
@@orzyrok6849 Valid point but the small percentage of Asia you see in that picture is due to the fact of mixed blood over the years. If you're still confused, then don't rely on professor who or you'll get stuck with more questions but focus on the second proof. It's linguistic connections. We Fijians and so does Polynesia not necessarily Melanesia use what is called the Tagalog Vocabulary. Meaning our language was created from certain vowel forms. And that specific vowel is what is known from Asia as the Tagalog Voc where countries like Japan, Phillipian's, Taiwan and Korea and certain part's of china uses them. It is what is known as the Tagalog vowels (A,E,I,O,U) .These vowels can also be mixed up to create a language as its evident with Japan for an example,
(A ,I,U,O,E).The bottom line is these five characters are the foundations that were created in Taiwan as far as our history is concerned to create a language back then. The Fijian language is depicted from these five vowels. Vowels that belongs to the Asian region as in our case Taiwan. This in itself seals our question as to where we originate from regardless of other known theories. When our journey started, our feature characteristics were quite different then. Their migration pack travelled and occupied certain regions in Asia but settling in each then moving on after decades of settlement. Even though their characteristic features changed towards the end of it's journey, it's lingo and what's left of it's DNA is proof of who they really were originally by blood. Our vowels is a massive giveaway. Our folk songs were actually referring to them that came down to Fiji back then. It was how it was interpreted that got things mixed up. Look at the Whippy's, Brown family etc for an example. Their features have changed over the years just a few decades ago. Fijians should try learning Japanese and see how easy it is because of these vowels let alone it's culture which is uncannily similar in a lot of areas. Hope it makes sense. Here's another hint: Q: Where did the nick name " Bui" comes from? Answer: That's the same nick name used in Taiwan, China and certain Asian countries today. Nothing any professor can take away. How it got there , Ill leave it for you to digest.

DNA test is programmed in such a way that would allocate certain % of dark skinned with those in Africa. Similarly fair and light skinned with those from the Caucasian mountains. This is why I'm still in doubt using the DNA testing to track our roots. Those who claimed to be the custodians of the promise land are the inventors of the Ancestry DNA forensic device. It's done to trace their lineage back to the bible to ascertain their identity due to recent backlash from others claiming they are not. That's a topic for another day. Moce mada.

These vocabs represents people of different cultures but are all related just as we are in Fiji . Oh "Oi-awe " (Tagalog) is another common Chinese word with the same reference as us in the pacific. We get your point . You obviously want zero association with anything African. You may not have ever been enslaved but Fijians along with African experience racism due to hair texture and skin color.
