- Not stat heavy at all. Just a few observations on how these knives differ from each other and they are similar.

The jaakaripuukko is bloody awesome. The blade heaviness makes it better for debranching and light chopping but somehow alsy yields a feeling of added control for common cutting
Thanks for talking about the handle ergonomics, it's one of the biggest things I look for and is surprisingly undermentioned in reviews
You got it! I can't tell you how many knives I have had to just not use due to handle ergos.
Terava all the way. It fits better in my hand. Nice review.
Still a good choice, man. I wish it fit better in my hand. I really like it.
I've got the Garberg and love it. I don't think you could go wrong with either blade though. I bought the skrama and it's and awesome tool too. Great observations and solid comparison! Atb Sean
I've been eyeing the Skrama for a while. I just am not sure why when I have two Kukris and a Primitive Bush tool from Condor. I'd be getting it just to have it. Sometimes that's reason enough, I guess.
I just bought a terävä jääkäripuukko 110 with leather sheath for $59 USD. It's a little more than HALF the cost of a Garberg carbon, which is $106 right now on Amazon. So the prices are not comparable at all. Note that for shipping to US you have to pay extra 10 bucks for the terävä jääkäripuukko.
Greg Milner when I bought them they were closer in price, but the Garberg is definitely more expensive and always was. They do fill the and niche I think. Though maybe not if they are that far apart now.

Garberg is $25 on Amazon right now
@@Elektroslag You do realize it’s been two years, right? Do you really feel like you’re contributing by saying it’s fake after 2+ years?
@@Elektroslag No, I wrote that it turned out to be spam on another comment, I just happened to miss this one. Other than that, who cares after 2+ years, the “deal” is likely far gone by now.
Very good comparison. Here in Canada we get screwed on prices. The garberg is about $35. more than the jakarripuuko. The bushcraft black has the most comfortable in my opinion, but could be a tad beefier. I do prefer the higher grind of the jakarripuuko, or any other puuko, when working wood. I find the shallow grind of the mora's (with the thicker blades) wedge too much and too quickly.
Yeah, I tend to use different blades for serious carving. I think that I might actually like the blade of the Jakarripukko better. It's just that handle . I have problems with handles which leaves me unable to use a lot of amazing knives. The garberg hits a nice place for me in that regard.
I have them both. I find the Jaakaripuukko to be much superior, in both blade and handle. Garberg is good, Jaakaripuukko is excellent. I also have the Garberg carbon, which has some good aspects. I'll still take the Jaakaripuukko every time. EDIT: I have the Jaakaripuukko in 85, 110, and 140. It's worth picking up all three.
Would u recommend the 140 one?
BTW, Finland is is a "Nordic" country but it is not a part of 'Scandinavia'... just a little thing ;-) Kiitos
Another note on the handle: I was in the North of Finland, visiting with a Lapp family, and brought along the first Puuko that I made; it had a kinf slightly triangula grip, that fit my hand very nicely, but our Lapp friend noted that he much preferred a simple, symmetrical 'oval' shape (like the Garberg), which allows using the knife in both directions, pushing down, or pulling it through... lesson learned! (on the plus side, he much liked the blade shape, sharpness, and good edge-holding :-) )
That's awesome! Great job on the construction. Fair point of the scandinavian thing. There is a lot of confusion around that topic. I need to learn more about the region.
@@pathrst lived almost 8 years in Suomi...great people(s) there, harsh history....
@@lohikarhu734 Interesting. I will have to do some research.
Jep…hes right.
“The North”= Finland, Sweden, Norway, Island and Denmark
“Scandinavia= Denmark, Norway & Sweden
IMO, jaakaripuukko is not good for slicing. But just with some sand papers, its handle would be much more comfortable and its leather sheath is awesome.
Terava (high carbon version) has probably a bit better steel - easier to sharpen and should stay sharp a bit longer, also tougher .... and in EU we can get it for under 50$ :)
I just bought the Jääkäripuukko for $65 shipped with the nice leather sheath. It’s been $65 for as long as I can remember and it’s only $30 without the sheath. Please use correct info when reviewing please.
I just set up a shopping cart on their website and the knife with sheath was 58.99 with an additional 9.99 in shipping. Roughly $70. That is cheaper than when I bought it some time ago. Thanks for pointing that out.
Your absolutely right
Nice review. But you cut those bell peppers the hard way. Cut them from the top down like you cut the cheeks off of a mango... leaves the stem and seeds in place and you don’t even have to trim the bitter white bits.
I borrowed a Garberg to compare to the Terava blades, Bushcraft black, kansbol, etc. it’s a great knife, but the spine is almost too sharp on my thumbs during push cuts and the handle is too firm. If it had the Kansbol handle material it’d be much improved.
Either way, probably can’t go wrong with either of these blades.
Good tip on the peppers. I agree about the kansbol handle. Best handle I have ever held I think.
Not a big fan of those spongy-ish rubber handles like on the puukko. Yeah, they're grippy for a while. But I live in the tropics--heat and high humidity--and all that kind of stuff breaks down really fast. I had expensive armored binoculars--supposed to be bulletproof--and the rubber alternately dried and cracked and then melted and turned sticky. I had to cut away all the armoring to salvage the damn things. Considerable effort and the results were not so inspiring. Also, anything glued together will fail in that environment. Even epoxies.
Can you look the Jääkäripuukko fits in the Garberg Sheat? Thanks ;-)
Unfortunately I don't have either knife anymore. If I had to guess from memory I think it would fit but could be snug in places and runs the risk of not fitting. Sorry I couldn't more helpful.
In 2023 the prices have changed significantly in the US. $60 for the garberg and $103 for Puukko.
Yep. It’s all changed a lot.
Nice video thx.
their 30$ plus 9.99 shipping these days.
Bonjour So which one is the best ?
PBushcraft Drôme either will serve you well, but I prefer the garberg.
Ok Merci 👍😷
im def gonna remove the micro bevel
on the jaakaripuukko
Say Heah, Bravo, I totally agree with you. Infact I also have the Kansbol which I permimently attached it to my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife. A lovely piece of kit. As far as the Garberg, I team it with my Bokor Aparro also a lovely piece of kit., but I also could team it with my H. I. M-43 Khukuri. I totally agree with your choice and why. Dilly Dilly.,,.p
Bro...ditch the crappy free music . I cant tell you just how much it SUCKS.
