I agree a thousand percent, and I was "in love" with both of them in my boyhood and teen years! Lol! Another great was Petula Clark with "Downtown" and "Don't Sleep in the Subway."
The magnificent Judith Durham and The Seekers, much loved in their Australian homeland. I grew up with Seekers songs. You are going to love "The Carnival is Over."
The Seekers are amazing. The lead singer Judith Durham died a couple of months ago. “The Carnival Is Over” is another great song by these guys. Thanks 🙏🏻
Olivia Newton John was, to all intents and purposes, Australian ... but she was actually BORN on ENGLISH soil, in Cambridge ..... her family left England for Australia when she was just five years old.
Judith Durham, the lead singer, had a fabulous voice, and she moved to a career in jazz singing, which she loved, after she left The Seekers. Judith suffered from a chronic lung condition that she had since being a young child. Eventually she died from it this year. What a trooper she was! You must hear the group sing, "I Am Australian". Even Americans do the patriotic hand on the heart to this one!
...I cannot take away this song from my head...and get never tired of listen and listen, its like magic in my ears...and I end up crying....there my daughter says...!is the music dad, the power of this beautiful song that touch deeply your heart, your soul and your mind...!
They were a very beautiful group originating in the sixties but not only released amazing songs that also outsold the Beatles and Stones at times. Judith had the voice of an angel and the definition of talent yet unlike today she never once considered herself above anyone. Sadly missed in people these days.
If you have read all the previous comments then you realise that you have been privilaged to hear probably the finest female vocalist ever. Thank you Judith for giving us wonderful music for over 50 years.
Many would consider Judith's voice to have been the loveliest of all time. Sadly she was taken from us a couple of months ago, but she will always be in our hearts.
As a proud Australian to inform you this “ little cute group” knocked both The Beatles and Elvis Presley off the number one spot on the music charts when they toured England and performed in front of the largest audience in Australia of 200,000 people on n their return. Check out “ i am Australian” “ Georgie Girl” “ Rge Carnival is Over” You won’t be dissected, actually surprised you have not heard of them, the lead singer Judith Durham was awarded the Order Of Australian and sadly passed away a month or two ago. “ The Carnival is Over “
folk - folk/rock music genre. Great harmony in their music. Ms Durham's voice is strong and clear and lovely. She just stands there and sings - her voice is wonderful.
Beautiful. Simpler times. Lots of great songs from them in my childhood... Georgie Girl, Morningtown Ride, The Carnival is Over, A World of Our Own. All worth listening to.
I'm so glad you two have found the Seekers. If you care to dive in for a bit longer reaction, check out their performances of their biggest hit, 'Georgy Girl.' plus the iconic 'Waltzing Matilda' and what many feel should be the Aussie's national anthem, 'I Am Australian,' written by group member Bruce Woodley. They sang the three songs at the 1994 national football final in Melbourne, 30 years after this video you've just watched. Judith never lost her voice, even well into her 70s. It's an 11-minute video but I promise you'll love it, and you'll feel like an Aussie yourselves by the time it's over. Please keep up your fun reactions! Thanks.
Fantastic suggestion. They were at the peak of their powers in that performance. They had the entire MCG in the palms of their hands. I'm going to go watch it (again...lol) right now.
Someone who lived through the 60's and early 70's and do not know the Seekers' music has a lot to discover. RIP Judith, thanks for many, many pleasant hours with your music.
I love The Seekers! They didnt need any autotune or loud singing (some performers when they sing i prefer to call it screeching or yelling) or any loud music of any kind. Just 2 guitars, a bass, and 4 wonderful singers with beautiful harmony. Just pure bliss!
Judith's version of "Danny Boy" is the BEST female version I've ever heard from anyone. Elvis Presley's is the best male version, with John McDermott of the Irish Tenors a close second.
Judith has one of the great voices out of the 60's and as others have said...unfortunately passed recently...Another fact...that studio was home to most of the Beatles songs....
The seekers were a very good folk/pop band from Australia. In fact, I think they were the first Australian group that had success here in the United States. "I'll Never Find Another You" was their very first top 10 hit and an excellent song. You both said you would like to hear other songs from them. I have the perfect suggestion. Please react to The Seekers "Georgy Girl". It is my favorite song from them and it was also their biggest hit. "Georgy Girl" is such a happy, feel-good song. I think you will both love it.
Although it's difficult for those who weren't there to believe, for a short time during late 1965 and early 1966 the popularity of this singing quartet from Australia was sufficient to rival the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The Seekers were at the head of the British Invasion's acoustic folk-rock division, right there with Peter & Gordon and Chad & Jeremy and more successful than either -- they scored a string of number one hits in England and Top Ten successes in the U.S. that lasted into 1967, two years later than most of the rest of the British exports to America. You must play their biggest hit GEORGY GIRL and Oscar nominated. The Seekers were the most successful group, at the time to come out of Australia. In a chance meeting years later, Maurice Gibb ran into Judith Durham and told her that the Bee Gees had tried desperately to get her group to record MASSACHUSETTS which the Bee Gees then took to great success.
I’m British and the Seekers were on the radio all the time. They had many hits. Great group, with a folk/pop sound. Judy is a fantastic singer with a woman’s voice instead of today’s “little girl” generic voices. The Carnival is Over is another good one.
The music industry is specifically targeted to girls of fourteen or so, and the manufactured stars are picked so their target audience will identify with them. After they reach a certain point they’re audience turns into cultists! What’s worse, there’s no room for a Laura Nyro, a Grace Slick, a Chryssie Hynde or a Tina Turner.
We lost both Judith Dunham of the Seekers and Olivia Newton John both the pride of Australia a few weeks ago. It was a lost I and millions of others felt. Great to see you play the Seekers music of the 60's which I consider the greatest decade in rock & roll music history.
I grew up a little kid listening to this song in Fiji and Australia ... in the 60s ... love them. They have some good songs. "World of Our Own" ... by the Seekers is also awesome one.
The Seekers in their heyday shared the pop charts in Britain with both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, often displacing them for the number one spot in the the top fourty hit parade for that week. Later in their career one of the band penned the song "I am Australian" which is now a popular unofficial Australian anthem. The Seekers reformed in the early 2000s and played that at the AFL Grand Final at the MCG in Melbourne Australia. This is one of the prime sporting events in the world and boasts about 100,000 spectators at the stadium. At the height of their success they played to a crowd of over 200,000 people at an outdoor concert in Australia, which I believe is still a record concert crowd for the Southern hemisphere.
This song swept me off my feet back in the day. I must have worn out several 45's of this record haha. These guys were great. It broke my heart when Judith Durham passed. "Georgy Girl" would be a good next song of theirs to react to. Thank you. ❤☮🙏
This is one of the all time great Pop/Folk songs. Judith Durham is superb here, with her sublime lead vocals, riding about an octave above the others - to create a beautiful ethereal feel to the song. The baseline guitars and banjo lay a beautiful instrumental baseline to the song. FTR, I am a retired, professional music critic with 45+ years experience and 60s Pop/Folk music doesn't get much better than this song. 😁👍
I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Judith Durham. The voice of an angel gave the world such great memories. There will never be another you Judith RIP
Unfortunately, Judith passed away recently, her unique voice makes the songs unmistakable. They continued to perform with the original line-up until shortly before their death. Thank you for your unforgettable music
She had such a great voice, an amazing folk band. They've sold over 50 Million records over the years and in their prime were huge. Loved the reaction.
Sorry I'm so late to the party, but I just saw your reaction. I agree that the Seekers are an easy listening group that provides excellent harmony. If you like them, then I think that you would also enjoy Peter, Paul and Mary and the Association.
Loved the Seekers - such beautiful, easy harmonies and Judith's voice is the calibre of Karen Carpenter - that strong, crystal clear, pitch perfect tone. Judith has just past this year and was so sad. She did not have the easiest of lives, but her voice lives on. The Carnival Is Over was my favourite Seekers song.
The Seekers were the sound of my childhood, and were absolutely HUGE in the day (knocking off both Beatles and Rolling Stones from number one on the charts). Absolutely listen to more - Georgy Girl, The Carnival is over, Morningtown Ride - so many great songs. Judith Durham had such a clear, pitch perfect voice, even at age 70 at their fair well concert a few years ago she sounds exactly as she did in her 20s. Much loved and sadly missed.
The clip was from a movie recreation of the studio session. They were lip-syncing. Judith wasn't aware of how successful they were, so she made her own dresses for concerts.
I can remember back then as a young teenager they were a group you heard plenty of on the radio, here in Australia but you never admitted listening to them. They were not cool. However now in my later life I have discovered more of their songs and enjoy them. Judith had a very good voice right up until her passing. RIP. ❤️🤘🎸🇦🇺
Love this song! Discovered this song after following their 1st song, "Georgie Girl" (from the movie). Worth checking that out, as well. Thanks for sharing.
Judith had the most beautiful & unique voice. She could sing Folk, Pop & Opera with equal quality & Beauty. She had so much pain & suffering throughout her life. She suffered from Meningitis which kept her from performing for more than 10 years. While she was recovering, she was involved in a terrible car accident which also almost ended her life, which is why she had to sit in most of her performances after returning to her career. There are so many wonderful songs the Seekers sang & one of their best & in my opinion the greatest Australian Anthem ever written, I Am Australian. Others are, Morningtown Ride, My Lord What A Morning, The Carnival Is Over, A World Of Our Own etc. So, so many.
One of THE greatest songs of all time ..... what an outstanding singer Judith Durham was, what a voice! This will always be my favourite Seekers song because it was the song that REALLY brought them to the attention of the music loving world.
Greetings ladies from across the pond 😊🇬🇧 I’ve just found your channel having stumbled on your reaction to Georgy Girl, loved it. There are so many great songs to chose from with The Seekers, check out The Carnival Is Over, Island If Dreams, A World Of Our Own to name a few. They were around a little before my time (I showed up in ‘71?lol) but my parents were into them and I do recall them playing albums from The Seekers when my brother and I were very young, in particular The Seekers recorded a beautiful children’s song called Morningtown Ride which is beautiful, I’d I’ve to see you react to that because an abiding memory from when we were little was mom playing that to send us off to sleep 😊
Judy Durham had a great voice, I love it. Was a big hit back then.Georgy Girl is another good song tho this is my favorite. I was fortunate to have grown up then, definitely my favorite decade for music. Keep up the good work.
The Seekers went for a trip to the UK where they met Tom Springfield (brother of Dusty). He wrote many of the legendary songs of The Seekers. This was also the start of their International succes.
I just subscribed recently and after watching many of your videos all I can say is I want to hear more and I'm 73 and live alone and am thankful I found your channel the two of you are so likeable!!
Love the way you ladies bounce reactions between one another. I'm 73yo now and consider myself musically blessed to have grown up in the 60s and 70s. We had some great soul artists back then, totally different from what the kids of today call soul. Might I suggest you listen to the following, Misty Blue by Dorothy Moore or Try A Little Tenderness by Otis Redding or anything by Aretha Franklin
One of the best exports from down-under; Judith w/ her phenomenal voice & the musical talent of Athol, Bruce & Keith - they've truly stood the test of time. Listen to The Seekers early & often.
I just came to your channel for BTS’s Heartbeat and decided to see what else I’d missed in your reactions first. Judith Durham’s voice just gives me goosebumps - it’s very distinctive with it’s beautiful combination of clarity and richness.
You just heard the late great Judith Durham. She’s an icon of the sixties and the treasure of Australia. Her voice is so unique. You must hit Georgy Girl.
Welcome to the great music if the 60's and this song only reinforces that, not only are the harmonies fantastic and the song itself and listening to the words in this song is so romantic.😊❤👍
They were big overbite, had several hits and were renowned. All over the world, saw them twice live , once as a kid then took my kids to see them years later on their reunion tour.
Judith was tiny with a powerful voice and a lovely vibrato although it is not as obvious here as in some of their songs. Good vibrato is not terribly common and a gift. They did many great songs, "Plaisir D'Amour", "Georgy Girl", "The Carnival is Over", "Morningtown Train", etc. Massachusetts written by the Bee Gees was written for them but for some reason their manager never got it to them. BIG mistake!. When Maurice Gibb died The Seekers did a lovely version of "Massachusetts" as a tribute. The 60's were amazing for music. I was so lucky to be a teen then.
So glad as an Australian you are listening to an Australian group. They were a part of my growing up and I love them. When Judith passed away just a week before Olivia Newton John it was almost too much to bare.
Morningtown Ride, The Carnival Is Over, A World of Our Own and Georgy Girl from the film of the same name are four popular hits by this Australian group, who only found real success after they were spotted performing on a cruise ship and were invited to tour in the UK. You may have heard of 1960s British folk, blues and soul singer, Dusty Springfield. Well most of the Seekers hits were written by her brother, Tom.
My absolute favourite is the carnival is over Judith Drummond wonderful voice from a time in my life when I couldn't be any happier I must have been about twenty years old I love my music and there was a lot of really great talent about in the sixtees and seventees
Judith Durham was 20 years old here. The Seekers had hit the big time, and Judith rang her mother in Australia and told her she may not be home for some time......
This song was number one in England, knocked the Beatles off number one on the charts, reach number four in the US. Check out another of their hits, "Georgie girl," number one in England number two in the US, was the title song from a movie and nominated for Academy Award for best song of the year.
Another great singer, with a similar Folk/Pop vibe, is Roger Whittaker. He had many great songs, like 'Durham Town', or 'I don't believe in if anymore', or 'The last farewell', all delivered in his wonderfully clear baritone voice! Alternatively, you could check out his amazing whistling abilities, on such classics as 'The Mexican whistler', or 'Elizabethan serenade'! He retired from performing only a little while ago, as he's now in his 80's, & he deserves a rest! The guy's been around forever!!
I'm Italian but born in Cambridge England in 1966 where I lived up to 18. Left for Italy with my family in 1984. Now I have a kaleidoscope of musical genres that are a part of my youth, hence a part of me. This aussie song is one of them.
Judith's voice shones through, but Keith Athol and Bruce had lovely voices and could play beautifully. All up their voices together harmonised and the song sounded so rich.🎉
The amazing thing about the Seekers is that after breaking up many years ago, they got together and were singing together 50 years later...and they sounded just as good. This song was written especially for them by Tom Springfield, the older brother of Dusty Springfield, who was also a fabulous singer. The Seekers are most familiar to Americans for "Georgy Girl", but they sounded fabulous no matter what song they sung.
The Seekers were making hits around the time of Peter, Paul and Mary right up to the last few years. They were big in the UK as well as here in Australia. This clip is in remarkable condition seeing it is 58 years old. 👍🤗
Lucky that this recreation of the 1964 recording session was made in 1968 of professional standard film. This was done for a TV special/documentary that had huge ratings when shown in Australia in 1968. The whole near hour long show is on RUclips, so the print or negative survived in good condition. Unlike reused video tape that deteriorated with age and was much lower resolution than the best film until about the nineties.
Their song "Georgy Girl" was the most popular band song at football games when I was in school in early 70s. It was a bit old by then, but it had a great lasting effect. I really like the unique blend of mother/daughter perspective that you two bring. 😀
Seekers Judith Durham 1943-2022 RIP
Judith Durham and Karen Carpenter-two of the all time great female vocalist.
I agree a thousand percent, and I was "in love" with both of them in my boyhood and teen years! Lol! Another great was Petula Clark with "Downtown" and "Don't Sleep in the Subway."
i would agree 100% i would add a third judy garland
Very similar voices Frank, although an Aussie myself, my Favourite is still Karen.
I agree two absolute legends
I totally agree with those two ladies and would add Mary Hopkin to that list.

Judith Durham was a big crush of mine. Beautiful lady. RIP.
From an era when artists had to be able to actually sing. Four talented people here accomplished a lot.
Yes, I agree with that big time, 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

It's such a beautiful song with a great sentiment
There's quite a few others to listen to that were so good
I just subscribed recently and after watching many of your videos all I can say is I want to hear more and I'm 73 and live alone and am thankful I found your channel the two of you are so likeable!!
What an amazing group.
R.I.P. Judith, you were legendary with an incredible voice , you are so missed.❤️😢❤️🙏😢
Keith Potger on the 12 string guitar is superb and gives the richness to this song
I'm not even Australian but when they sing Waltzin Matilda it makes me cry. Wonderful.
Love the way you ladies bounce reactions between one another. I'm 73yo now and consider myself musically blessed to have grown up in the 60s and 70s. We had some great soul artists back then, totally different from what the kids of today call soul. Might I suggest you listen to the following, Misty Blue by Dorothy Moore or Try A Little Tenderness by Otis Redding or anything by Aretha Franklin
the carnival is over is another one of my favorite songs from the seekers
I still marvel at the harmonies so unique!
When music was optimistic loved this
The song was recorded at Abby Roads, where the Beatles recorded! Yes The Carnival is Over, I highly recommend it!
Great stuff. Next has to be " The Carnival is Over". Judith Durham had a great voice.
I remember this.. Wow! It's been awhile
So glad as an Australian you are listening to an Australian group. They were a part of my growing up and I love them. When Judith passed away just a week before Olivia Newton John it was almost too much to bare.
a really Amazing voice, singing a beautiful love song .. Greatness
carnival is over, georgy girl. and world of our own....all good ones
Excellent , The Group is love in Australia, They are honor there.
I remember them very well, beautiful.
Judith Durham -- the voice of an angel. Perfect pitch.
Every year on the 4th of november my girlfriend and me listen to this song.... it's are special song
OMG! I haven't heard this in 40 years! But to tell the truth, I thought it was from Peter, Paul and Mary. Thanks for the memories!
Great song! Glad you reacted to it.
The era of folk , folk -rock .....The Seekers , Peter , Paul , and Mary , Gordan Lightfoot ....and others ........great music ..!!!!!
In later years they sung I am Australian goose bumps will blow you away best traditional song I've herd and I'm irish also it's live
I appreciate you reacting to music of my hippie days. This was released in 1964. Great song! Great reaction. Thanks for the memory.
Much of 60's music, especially the early to mid, was happy and/or energetic all out fun type of music!
I was in elementary when this song became a hit. It still brings back memories. Every time I hear it I'd sing along and imagine I'm singing to Jesus.
Their song "Georgy Girl" was the most popular band song at football games when I was in school in early 70s. It was a bit old by then, but it had a great lasting effect. I really like the unique blend of mother/daughter perspective that you two bring. 😀
I would recommend listening to the Seekers' songs. The Carnival Is Over & I am Australian. They produced many great songs.
