One of the best female voices ever!
Classy, No Tattoos, No piercings, No weird hair colors.
Dressed to look good.
@@richardsenkBeachwalker Judith was so modest and humble
Judith Durham is a fabulous singer. Just a voice from Heaven.
RIP Judith,,,
Judith and Karen Carpenter are two of the best female singers of all time. Such beautiful unique voices 😄
You are not wrong my friend. Their voices could melt the steel hull of a battleship.
Absolutely!
So True - Along with Connie Francis, Dolores O'Riordan, and of course Patsy Cline.
@@redflamered People rarely mention Connie Francis, but I couldn't agree more.
1/ Karen 2/ Judith 3/ Annie Haslam of 70's English Group: Renaissance and then Shirley Bassey, Dusty Springfield et al..:)
Every time I see the Seekers, I fall for Judith Durham all over again. Her voice is just beautiful. Why did he shyness get the better of her then. If only she knew then how loved she was.
I grew up with their music too, and I just wish I could somehow have told her (and the guys) how much joy they gave me.
I do wholeheartedly agree! One of my first boyhood crushes!
I think all us guys put her on a pedestal and thought she was too good for us.
@@tuguybear930 yep and she probably would have thought the same, but the other way round.
I knew this reaction would be great. First heard this on the radio in 1968 (a year after it blew up in 1967). I luv the vocals. Even to a child this song hit different.
The movie Georgy Girl was quite good too. I think this song was nominated for an Academy Award.
Yes.Lost out to Born Free.
I thought it was incredibly sad.
The movie "Georgy Girl" was a quintessential British comedy movie of its time that took a self-effacing view of what one assumed to be typical lives of British society in the swinging sixties. The upbeat song fits in nicely with that and I believe it helped establish the Seekers as one of the next wave of bands to climb the pop charts in the UK and maybe the US.
"Dasher" is a fine word, or was in England and Australia around the time that this song first came out. And you used it correctly and so beautifully as it was almost exclusively used by ogling females to describe handsomely dressed males.
@@robertworrell6287 Wow -- didn't realize that. My sis came into town from Miami for my b'day on 11/11 -- and we watched GEORGY GIRL on TCM -- and then I rented BORN FREE for $3.99 and we watched that. Stayed up until 4 in the morning. But how funny that they were the same year, and both nominated for Best Song. Somehow I knew it would be a great double feature though.
@@Kairon111161 You have very good taste. Who cried the most, you or your sister.
Georgy Girl for me always summed up the swinging sixties. Judith's voice is amazing.
I grew up in the 1960’s Decade, every time I hear this song it always brings back Beautiful Memories for me….
me too
THE 60s AND 70s WERE THE BEST !! 🌸🌺🌸✨🌸❤️🌺🌸✨
You picked the best version of the song again. Judith was one of the most wonderful singers to grace this world. No airs or graces, nothing artificial. Just pure talent and a joy to behold. ❤
I read that when she was young, as she was here, Judith Durham didn't like the way she looked. Was she insane? She was beautiful on the inside and the outside. And what a supremely talented singer. Her vocals were utterly beautiful.
Look how far she was off that microphone. She was a very talented singer. So cute too. I am sure I would have fallen madly in love with her if I was around.
More a comment on the technology and the lack of huge stacks on the stage causing feedback.
R.I.P. Judith Durham of the seekers. I just loved this song as a child of the 60s and 70s. The song Georgy Girl is for a movie of the same name with a very younger British actress Lynn Redgrave.
What’s a quick comment, you mentioned her dress well she made the dress herself, and if you notice the crowd there were over 200,000 people at that concert and that’s the largest ever in the southern hemisphere. They were just about ready to do their 60th anniversary and Judith passed away at 79 years old. Another note the song Georgy girl Was nominated for an Academy award for it was the song that went with the movie Georgy girl. Judith is a concert pianist, she is one of the few female voices with absolute perfect pitch and is a legend in her own time. Thank you so much for showing it. You might also want to check out the seekers song I am Australian, written by the seekers and sung by them also it has been suggested that it become the Australian national anthem.
The helicopter shots of the crowd were well before the concert before the crowds really built up. So the noise of the helicopter would not interfere with the concert.
There is a recording of the announcer on stage introducing the whole concert saying that he thought there were 500,000.
We really don't know an exact figure as it was a free concert, as were all Myer Music Bowl concerts then, so no ticket check.
If estimated from the helicopter shot then it was underestimated.
I think you are wrong about the dress ! She bought it in London xx
@@mariestew5623 Yes, Judith bought the dress in Knightsbridge London although earlier she had made lots of her clothes.
From a fantastic hour odd interview of Judith, referring to the Myer Music Bowl concert presented here. Well worth watching in full :
ruclips.net/video/Z5Y9B_VgkJg/видео.html
Earlier in the interview she discusses how she made her own clothes and how the 11am helicopter shots were taken well before the crowds built up for their around 4pm performance.
@@johnd8892 yes thats right and the dress is now in a museum in Melbourne. I have just read Judiths biography and it was a wonderful read. Highly recommend it ! she was a one off and a huge miss. Xx
in my opinion the greatest female pop folk singer of all time an incredible voice
The movie was Lynn (daughter of Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson; sister of Vanessa and Corin Redgrave) Redgrave's debut. It is much darker than the bouncy theme song. Group's biggest hit.
Judith Durham has one of the best voices on the planet, she has this ability to make any song she sings sound fantastic. Great reaction guys.
Happy Happy HAPPY Song❤😄🥇‼️💯 -We named my puppy 'Georgie Girl' after this song in '66😄❤️🥇‼️
Judith Durham was a trained Concert Pianist & Flautist. She was also a fully trained in Opera & could sing the most beautiful Aria's.
Judith Durham performed a song called Forever isn't Long Enough for Me after her husband died. It was beautiful. Her voice was probably as close to hearing an angel as possible in this life. Oh, I think the word you were searching for was dapper as in "Dapper Dan". Loved your reaction. Thanks and we'll see you next time.
Judith Durham had a perfect natural soprano…and always sounded great…I was in high school when I’ll Never Find Another You came out…and in quich order they had released 3 songs that topped the charts in England…actually knocking the Beatles off the top spot…
Dasher- a person who dresses or acts flamboyant or stylish! Mom was correct! It’s not just the name of a rain deer! 😂
Georgy Girl was the title song of the 1966 British Rom-Com Georgy Girl starring Lynn Redgrave. The song was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song but lost to Born Free.
A role that rocketed Lynn Redgrave to stardom.
This performance ....... Fresh from world-conquering success, The Seekers came home to Melbourne in 1967, and made more music history. The crowd at their March 12, 1967 performance at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl was estimated at over 200,000 people.
Her voice is so indescribable. You can just fall into the sound. A beautiful kind of cross between folk rock and sunshine pop. I was only 5 when this came out but I sang it around the house all the time.
This is one of my favorite songs of the 1960’s Decade and many people during that Decade Loved singing this song..
I just watched this performance not long ago when Judith passed away. She had such a beautiful voice and it matched her pretty face. The Seekers were an group from my youth. Great reaction.
wOW first time hearing im amazed how songs from 60's, 70's and 80's are better then today..
It was the theme song for a 60's film of the same name, set in 'swinging' London. In the video they are back in Australia , Sydney I think. I don't know yet if you've covered any other 'Seekers' songs. I'm actually binging on you from oldest to latest lol. Check out 'Morning Town Ride' , 'A World Of Our Own and 'The Carnival Is Over' my favourite.
I remember when this song came out....everyone was whistling and singing the song! They were extrememly popular and really were quite something back in the day. Judith Durham was simply ''incredible'' and the harmonizing was spectacular.... I still love listening to them!
The sound of my childhood. Thank you for returning me there... the power of music!
The Seekers, Judith Durham 1943-2022 RIP
Judith Durham passed away back in August 😒Interesting tidbit. The Seekers held the record for the largest (Per percentage of population) crowd in the world. Something like 10 percent of Melbourne's total population turned out for their farewell concert. Another massive song for them was "The Carnival is over"
The helicopter shots of the crowd were well before the concert before the crowds really built up.
@@johnd8892 I am guessing then that the 200,000 number was the highest verifiable number for inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records. Knowing the sheer love people had for the Seekers at the time, 500,000 would not surprise me in the least.
RIP Judith, love this song and this great great folk group.
"The Carnival is Over," should be next, a great song, wonderfully delivered.
Hi Ladies Michael from Australia here. Nice review for an Australian band that were loved for so many years.
Rest in piece Judith Durham.
there are certain songs that have an intro that is iconic ..this is one of them
This is a 🔥 reaction channel. Thank u.
The Seekers were an unknown folk/gospel group from Australia when they In 1964 decided to take the ship to England to spend a 10 weeks working holiday. They got discovered by people In the business who saw their potensial and against all odds they became international pop stars. The 10 weeks became 4 years.
I like the movie. The changed lyrics at the end of the movie are hilarious. Also the look on her father's face at the wedding, and the look on Jame's Mason's face when they hand her the baby in the car.
You gals are so fun and refreshing, very uplifting and entertaining, thank youl
They look very "dapper"!
This is the title track from the movie Georgy Girl …. And is indeed about a young woman…who changes her outlook and life and clothes… and blossoms …. Next…. A World of our own….keep discovering Aussie…👍🇦🇺.
Wow ... Just Wow! Incredible performance! Looks like the Hollywood Bowl. Beautiful girl and singer!
It was at the Myer Music Bowl on the banks of the Yarra River in Melbourne. Great venue still in use.
I can vaguely remember hearing this concert from our house, couldn't make anything out, but we could just hear it. They drew the biggest audience at this concert in Melbourne at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl, over 100,000
Its lyrics are related to a character in a movie, it's the theme song for the movie "Georgie Girl".
I was 5 years old in 1966 and in the hospital for hernia surgery. My Dad bought me a transistor radio with an earphone, so I could hear the radio. This was the top song then.
Superb song. My late brother loved this song.
Great show.Momma Gap got it right.Very controversial movie at the time with a deep study of a typical girl. Lynn Redgrave. Baby Gap ,you could have a good cry with this one.
Judith Durham had such a clear and pure voice. The Seekers broke into the British music scene in the 60's, and were something of a rarity. No one had ever heard of a pop group from Australia before.....
Omg mom..thank you, and I'm crying, but happy retro tears🤗
I do love folk music. They mixed a little Pop in with this. Judith's voice is gorgeous. (RIP).
I was born in 1960, so by the time I was in grade school this song was popular. I remember the school assembly times when students would show off their talents in the auditorium. The little girls would show their dance routines to this song, Windy (By the Association) and Downtown (Petula Clark). Great memories. Thanks!
the melody is beautiful on this song i have loved it since i was a little boy playing my mums records, couple more you might consider... A World Of Our Own.....and/or ...The Carnival is Over
Oh no...the two songs guaranteed to make me cry...."world of our own" and "carnival is over"
My fav by them is "I'll Never Find Another You". 😀
I think you were trying to say, "dapper." Great song and reaction.
I really appreciated that you reacted to the concert version of the Moody Blues' Nights in White Satin after first seeing an early video of the band. So, my friends, as I'd suggested after you reacted to 'I'll Never Find Another You,' how about now going for that iconic three-song Seekers performance of Georgy Girl, plus Waltzing Matilda and I Am Australian? It's an 11-minute video captured at a national football final in Melbourne. You won't be disappointed!
You ladies are beautiful and thank you for making my eyes happy
Judith is beautiful and so is her voice
This song was from the 1966 RomCom film "Georgy Girl" , starring Lynn Redgrave and James Mason.
The song was recorded for the movie, Georgy Girl, starring Lynn Redgrave. You should see it!
Film had Charlotte Rampling, James Mason, and Alan Bates.
This was the theme song from the Movie of the same name. Music by Dusty Springfield's brother Tom Springfield. The move starred Lynn Redgrave.
It was about a "frumpy" girl.
Sadly, gone now but what a voice so good.
Of all my favorite Seekers songs, this is my FAVORITE favorite! 😁 And dear, sweet Judith looks absolutely stunning here! When you said “dasher,” I believe you meant to say “dapper,” but fused dapper and dashing into a new word! Lol! Wonderful reaction from a wonderful Mom and Daughter team whom I’m glad to have recently discovered!
I am so glad you chose this song as your next Seekers song to react to. Momma Gap, we are in complete agreement. Georgy Girl is my favorite Seekers song, too. It's such a happy-sounding feel-good tune.
So glad you know & love this song ❤ The Seekers were Australia's first internationally famous group. Judith Durham had a distinctive & beautiful voice, and the guys harmonised so well. RIP Judith.
Hi! In 1967 The Seekers returned to their hometown of Melbourne, Australia on a
hot summers day to perform their biggest hit, "Georgy Girl" stayed in the Top 10
on the US Billboard charts for 8 weeks in 1967. Suggestion: The Seekers songs
"A World of our own", and two cover songs "California Dreamin", "Massachusetts".
"All of us have wings, but some of us don't know why." ... INXS - 'Never Tear Us Apart.'
Wow, it's been a long time since I've heard this song. Very dasher. lol
Never grows old; simply & real musical talent, great harmony & Judith’s exquisite voice.
Even up to their retirement from a few years ago, The Seekers have maintained that great distinctive sound.
Either as a result of the song or maybe a solo project…a movie was made in England with Lynn Redgrave as Georgia…a shy young woman who changes her style and her life…and finds happiness…the song was probably the inspiration for the song since it hit the top of the charts in England and Australia…maybe number 4 in the United States…
Memories of being a little kid around Cortland New York, hearing this on the radio. It's the music that takes me back to whenever the song was released, always.
My favorite song of theirs in Carnival is Over
A blast from the past. Love the Seekers
You would LOVE the song I'll Never Find Another You that was recorded at Abby Road studio!
There was a movie with this song starring Lynn Redgrave and James Mason
For more in this general style, see also: Burt Bacharach, The Association, The Fifth Dimension, Spanky and Our Gang, and about a dozen other groups. This style was a sort of bridge between the older style and the new rock.
this was from a movie of the same name.....the Seekers are a national treasure for Australia......rip Judith
I can remember hearing this when I was very young. Very catchy! Mercy!
Wonderful song from a great band. It was the theme music to a pretty good movie, too, about (as you put it) a woman who "needed to blossom". Sadly, lead singer Judith Durham died earlier this year - RIP.
This is always tied in with "To Sir with Love" which came out around the same time, and had that 60s liberation theme. Thank y'all for keeping groovy alive.
@tecdessus RIP Mister Poitier. Great film, song, actor, time.
The song was written for the movie Georgy Girl it was nominated for an Oscar - Born Free won
It should be noted that there was a movie called, "Georgie Girl" which featured this song.
A few years back The Seekers made a new Album. Advanced in years they realized anyone of them could pass soon. The Chose a song to record called Far Shore. It is upbeat and beautiful and Judy still sounded perfect and looked great. I think you both would really love it. Especially Mom. The song while big in other countries was not released in the USA. Please react to The Seekers, Far Shore.
I believe you'd be impressed with the Seeker's special farewell performance of I Am Australian.
Judith's voice is as close to perfection as its possible to get.
Yep, you're right .....
She was incredible.
Check out her singing Danny Boy, Yesterday and Olive Tree just pure vocals, as always.
This was the soundtrack from the film of the same name. It was about "swinging London" in the 1960s.
Judith what a lovely voice great song
Great reaction enjoyed it much, the Seekers are amazing and oh I think the word you were looking for is dapper
The Seekers wrote many of their own songs but they also struck up a very productive relationship with English songwriter Tom Springfield (yes, he was the brother of Dusty !) who provided them with I'll Never Find Another You, A World Of Our Own, The Carnival Is Over plus this one.
she died 3 days before Olivia Newton John, another Australian legend.
My dad had such a crush on Judith Durham... which made my mum laugh!
Song from movie titled Georgy Girl filmed in 1966, a British movie.
the seekers are legendary, i believe this footage is from a famous outdoor concert they did in melbourne in 1967 to a crowd of over 200,000.
You two are just perfect together. Glad I found your channel. 😉
This Seekers video clip, Georgy Girl, was recorded at the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne in the late 60's and had 200,000 people at the concert.
Dasher- a person who dresses or acts flamboyant or stylish
She was beautiful even in old age it’s a shame she had to leave us
My favorite song of the Seekers and Judith since it’s inception!
heard her sing a few years ago and she still sounded amazing, her voice hadn't changed at all!
The theme song from the '60's movie "Georgie Girl"
