Hey man just curious. You planning on doing anymore AC content? Unity or even the new one when it drops? I understand this content you uploaded was a while ago. Just wondering
To this day I'm still surprised how smooth and fluid Unity actually is. Perhaps at the time it was something that wasn't as visible due to the game's numeral technical and performance issues. But if you've got the hardware to brute force it and the game doesn't break on you, it just flows so much better compared to the movement and animations we see in Origins/Odyssey.
I think it was the first AC game since AC1 that had even remotely difficult combat that made you unable to genocide an unlimited amount of enemies quicker than it would take to stealth, and easier than just running past/away. This meant I never felt like it was worth using two out of the three gameplay pillars, ever. Why didn't Ezio just walk into the Borgia's army and combo an infinite string of finisher moves at the start of Brotherhood? In Unity, you feel like a badass swordsman still, but you can't take on large groups all at once, or difficult enemy mixes, which means it was finally worth considering your approach (as this video is the perfect demonstration of), and using a mixture of stealth and navigation to avoid the "front door" technique and sneak past or thin the herd first. It also made taking out enemies more worthwhile and rewarding, because each kill increased your chance of survival. Even if you were doing pure stealth, the slow combat is the games biggest draw, because it means being caught has consequences. Not a game over, but losing control of the flow of the game (see: this video) and needing to EARN it back, through careful and skilled combat, or through parkour and quick-thinking (or gadgets, or what have you.) AC1 was basically a rhythm game, so this kind of "flow" and pacing based mechanics are perfect, especially with slower combat, as having every pace be "SUPER FAST!" doesn't accomplish that. You set the pace, until you're caught, and then you have to match the pace and timing of the enemies, OR wrestle it back from them. So I think that this video perfectly proves the best part of AC Unity is the slower and more thoughtful combat, because it reinforced all of the games other elements which most define the series, and as such it acts as the linchpin of the core gameplay and feedback loop.
Plus, as for the combat itself, I personally really enjoyed it, and it deserves it's own lil spotlight. It wasn't just an obstacle to overcome with the other two gameplay pillars, it was it's own great lil system! First AC game to make me think so hard about positioning and the environment, and enemy-management. Smokebomb dudes and anyone with a gun pissed me off to no end, but it meant I had to avoid being surrounded, and fight where I could move into cover, and ideally use corners and bottle-necks to get a few moments to fight them in smaller more manageable groups I could thin out. Note that I played with no health upgrades and wore armour that had only just enough defense that I wouldn't lose every fight. Hahaha!
I adore AC1 combat. AC Unity just... Doesn't do it for me. I don't enjoy fighting in this game, even when it's just two or three guards it's just a chore I have to do. Having said that I'm very happy it works for you and you enjoy it. At least it's not... Like... Odyssey combat xD
The combat is great if you’re constantly attacking and having your strikes blocked instead of just waiting for the parry. It feels like an actual sword fight at times.
Zachary's right, though. A skilled player who is equally good at AC1 and at Unity will always be able to do more with AC1 movement because it simply gives the player less constraint and more options. Unity requires Conditionals to be clear before Arno decides to do an action. The game has to "agree" with you. AC1-Rev don't do this, the player can simply input whatever action they want at any time they want. This is why less alert players make mistakes like flinging themselves off a building by accident. It's a fault of button-spam and unawareness that happens because we are literally Free to do so. Where Unity excels is in pure forward movement that's unfocused, when you're running 300 meters in a certain direction and you don't particularly care HOW you get there. Where it falls apart is precision or micro-movement due to its input delay and inconsistent action-validation. It also just looks amazing which is the reason people usually forgive its flaws. And that's alright, I recognize the value of how sick animations can change an experience.
One thing I think that's worth mentioning in the smoke bomb combat mistake section is the avoidance of executions--Arno will switch his target instantly when you press the attack button while holding your stick in another enemy's direction. Since combat executions waste a lot of smoke time, it's usually recommended to switch targets immediately after bringing an enemy to their critical state. Better yet, you could also hit multiple enemies by switching targets after every hit, then disengaging enemies with a poison bomb to finish them all off at once. In the case where you do not have smoke bombs for whatever reason, the target switching technique will also limit the number of times you have to parry and dodge, as your fast attacks will often disrupt and damage enemies prepping their next attack. I strongly recommend doing this often since the enemies you fight head-on tend to block very often. While I do agree that combat should be avoided to a minimum, I do think that there are still a few techniques that could be explored to switch up the dynamic to make ACU's gameplay more dynamic.
Thanks for following, Alex. :D Take a look at the previous Unity for the real huge depth. I'll eventually do something similar for every game in the series, I'm sure.
I'm so glad someone is still talking about Unity. I have so many hours in Unity between the PS4 and PC version. It's such an underrated game and was so far ahead of its time, especially with the graphics and the freeform parkour. I would (and sometimes still do) literally spend hours just flowing parkour through Paris. I love Unity, I don't think it's the best AC to date but it's pretty darn close. It also feels like the last "true" AC game. Odyssey and Origins are really cool, but they are such a complete genre switch it's hard to identify with the series. Anyway, I always have sucked at the stealth in this game, despite having over 250 hours in this game. You have actually managed to show me things I never knew about this game in regards to the stealth mechanics, and for that I applaud you sir. You have helped me actually enjoy the stealth of this game, and I now find myself going back and playing missions just to practice and try this stuff out. I think Unity may be the best AC game in regards to actually making you feel like an assassin. Bravo. Your content is golden.
@@swiftzz3238 You can replay missions you really liked to get faster and better at them, do personal challenges to yourself to look as smooth and stylish as possible, gain mastery of specific areas, do Area-Wipes. You can take inspiration from things like this: ruclips.net/video/909Zc-9VG7k/видео.html Or, you can begin clearing the Map and finishing all the Icons/Chests, Side-Missions like Paris Stories. If you're really, really good, you can delete your save and do No Upgrades playthrough from the beginning. @@SixShooter6 Yup. Happily, all of these vids were made months (sometimes years) ago, before it was free. :P That might be what people are referring to subconsciously. It totally makes sense that it received a burst of relevance recently -- what makes less sense is why I was making content on this game before that point.
Not gonna lie, I played through this game with the over conservative and scared playstyle, forgetting that I had somke bombs and phantom blades, just staying behind cover for 5 minutes worrying not to get caught and even then I still got detected and ending up failing the mission, but I must thank you for opening up my mind for what could be done in this game with your videos.
Hell yeah, that's the idea! Once it "clicks" for you, you can play like a river flowing through every area with small pauses to ping your environment for intel with Eagle Vision before you stay on the move. It's pretty fun! Thank you so much for your great comment, too.
actually i think unity has fun combat BUT it is absolutely frustrating encountering more than 7 enemues at the same time because 3 of them will block every attack while 4 of them are shooting at you all the time
Nope not everyone .Ezio and the twins arent like this Aveline, Altair, Ezio, Twins, Arno are more stealthy asassins Meanwhile Connor(may be) Edward, Bayek, Kassandra are more like warriors or fighters .
@@mr.waiyanlin1791 no thats not my point i like the way they treated combat in unity but the gun overload makes combat unenjoyable with more than 7 enemies, i still like ac 1 and unitys combat the most in the series
Best movement mechanics in the AC Series so far, with little bit of polishing, I would love to see Altair move like Arno. Hopefully Ubi makes a Remake (not a remaster) of AC1. Btw I subbed and I think you deserve more ;) Great vid overall!
0:32 yes there are 2 regulars and a brute. I think I can take them. 5 seconds later: 8 dudes run out the door and you get shot in the side or something.
did exactly what you did in my play through but never used beserk blades as you did, if i ever got into combat I just shot everybody with the pistol and ran like hell. Worked 80 percent of the time.
Hahaha, give it a shot! I end up having to use Fast Berserk Resets in my 2019 No Upgrades Run for Unity a lot. Check that one out, especially the Marie Levesque Assassination in it for some solid examples.
@@LeoKRogue god I remember what i did for that assassination I basically just snuck in the window and lockpicked the door to the main area and B lined it to her and just shot her in the face, smoked the area like 4 time, finished her and ran out the window.
AC Rogue isn't as fluid as Unity but I'm currently playing it and these tips actually apply oddly well to 4 and Rogue, so thanks a ton man!! I just discovered your channel and I'm loving this keep it up!
This game has the best melee combat of all the assassins creed games for me. You actually have full control of the characters movement and the camera during combat which is amazing. It gives you total directional freedom to choose which enemy you want to engage and always have the camera directly behind you and the enemy directly in front of you. It feels like you are the one in a duel. Everyone i have seen play this game doesnt control their camera and character movement when they get into combat they let the game do it. Every other ac game has this stupid camera lock that pans for you(which you can only slightly control) and restricted movement during combat. This makes it so that even though you are the one pressing buttons you feel more like a viewer watching the character fight for his life instead of the one participating. Its hard to explain because im stupid but i might make a video on this to show it lol.
We are each entitled to our opinions. For example, Ghost of Tsushima combat did everything Unity does, but faster, more lethal (on both enemies and Jin) and better in every conceivable way. It fixes all the issues I have with Unity's melee while preserving the things I was supposed to love about it. It's fantastic. Unity itself, though? Nah.
0:30 Beside’s the one problem of NPCs inconsistently timing Their attacks Don’t know what You’re talking about Slow is definitely not what I’d call It The overreliance on overpowered guns, Badly balanced weapons, occasional near instant Death at low Skin levels and Swords teleporting inside Me mid parry *And Cameras* But not slow It’s also still pretty Fun Especially with a Spear I Love Spears
My brother, nephew and I still play the game especially the multiplayer co-op missions. We even replay some missions for fun and money aspect, it makes us better assassins. Never go in "loud & dumb", always go in "quiet & easy".
I got soo tickled when the combat was shown..Like... what kind of assassin fights like that?! I couldn't stop laughing at how slow he was swinging that sword..
For real haha. I really respect Unity for what it tried to do with combat and I think if they gave it a strong second try it would be absolutely phenomenal. What we got in the game that shipped though, wasn't.
Not really and i love Unity. Unity shined in it's dark art style where Odyssey was well rounded in both. Definitely not a better engine but which is better is personal opinion..
Dualshock Entertainment The grass in Odyssey is literally a blurry grass picture from Google. What Origin and Odyssey infuriated me with was the shining sand, as if it was polished marble.
Playing this game right now, after finishing Origins and Odyssey, also i could never get into Syndicate so damn boring... but this one i really like. Same mechanics as black flag.
Revisiting a large batch of your Unity videos as an inspiration and guidance for something I'm planning long-term. Honestly, it's such a pleasure to watch your videos. I must say, as myself, I prefer the more "stylish" and long-winded animations over the shorter, grounded ones when I play - especially when going fast. I think I'm just a complete sucker for the visuals.
i love your idea of gameplay and approaching the game in general. Because i always looked for these same aspects in other players styles but they are always missing. I think you caught the right way to do it, the best and the most entertaining, finally. And in my opinion this doesn't only fit this game but all the others of the same genre. Thanks to your suggestions i can perfect my style too.
Thank you so much! That's exactly what I'm trying to do. Of course, which style is the most entertaining is a matter of some debate, as you'll see the rare commenter light me up for excessive item use (even though that's like... the Focus of my Style). If you enjoy this kind of gameplay, I recommend you search for my Hoarders Full Sync Reaper, as well as my other Stealth Reaper videos. And to see this applied over a full playthrough with my commentary over top, check out my 2019 No Upgrades run. Thanks once again Simone. ^__^
It’s so funny that people used to say ac combat was bad because it was too easy, but when they changed it people said it was bad because it was too hard. Imo Unity has the best combat in the whole series.
Ghost of Tsushima. Devil May Cry. Dark Souls. Bloodborne. Sekiro. Shadow of War. Even AC1 (because you can't abuse items). All of those have more challenging combat than Assassin's Creed Unity. I love them all, so much more. Why? They're expressive and offer so much more to the player than this game's fight system ever could. Unity combat is not bad because it's hard. Unity combat is bad because it's _boring._ There's a big difference! Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk.
@@LeoKRogue yeah you’re right those games do have great combat even better than Unity. GoT is one of my favorite games, but not because I like jins tools and “dishonorable” weapons, but because the feeling I get when I slice through ten enemies with ease. I love swords and dueling and imo unity’s swordplay is satisfying. if I have the chance to instantly kill a group of guards with tools or just run in say f it and play it slow and sweet I’ll choose the latter.
Bro for someone like me who is super late to the party and installed unity just a few days back, you are like an Initiate chest holding Altair's outfit, a gold mine. I just can't stop admiring at your skill level at this game and trying to implement everything you say in these videos. And because of that, you gained a sub. Keep up the good work bro
Thank you so much, I'm so happy to be able to help. I've recently had a burst of comments requesting certain videos on Unity that I haven't made yet, but which I feel would be very educational to new players and even some experts. I hope to release those soon.
The more you understand it and the more of yourself you put in, the more this game will usually give back. Can still be immensely frustrating, though. :P
This game is actually really good and fun. Just MASTER movement, climbing and cover and you will have one hell of an experience! Nice videos man, hope you will upload some Watch Dogs 1 content! 👍 keep it up
Yeah, that's okay. :3 If you can respect that I think it's horrendous and barely functions properly, I will respect that to you it's the most fun. We all have our thoughts on this, and I think that's a beautiful thing.
Personally, I love AC Unity's combat, but I also understand where you're coming from. Combat adds more problems if you don't get out of there quickly with a smoke bomb, especially when your overwhelmed. It also messes with your flow, for example: For some reason I'll escape from my pursuers, wait until my detection vanish and when I go up to two guards to perform a double assassination, somehow I'm detected immediately and go into a combat state. It's those type of inconvenient annoyance that hurts you on the inside. But I got to the point where I did a lot of Solo Stealth Heist on the Luxemburg Palace to the point where I was like "Aight im rich enough, lets go in guns blazing :D" Combat is a mixed bagged for some, however I like it is because no matter the archetype of the enemy, the enemy will always make the effort to try and parry your attacks (Unless their Gear Level 1 and your Gear Level 5 or their the brutes with the axes). You even feel overwhelmed if you're going against large swarm of enemies and breath a sigh of relief if you decided to finish the fight and survive. Idk if the developers done this intentionally, but I do like how they made combat as a last resort. You're the blade in the crowd. You get in, you get out as cleanly as possible. If you don't wanna fight the guards, that's alright as well. tldr: I agree with your statement on combat, but I still love AC Unity combat cuz I stealth way too much so I go guns blazing (Plus Arno roundhouse kicking a guard when doing a perfect parry is pretty badass ngl) Edit: Also holy fuck, one nitpick I have which I don't mind, but it happens way to often where I just want to point this out. I hate how the guards shoot you every 2-5 seconds, like calm the fuck down lemme kill this dude first, wait your turn.
Some players definitely appreciate it more than others. For myself, I've played way too many better-designed stealth games that punish the player for combat just as much, but at least growing in skill at it _feels good_ which to me, in this game, it doesn't. You _shouldn't_ fight in Metal Gear, but you can. You... can't really fight in Unity, not unless the circumstances are just right, because beyond a certain threshold Skill is no longer a factor. A better example of what Unity tries, but done effectively, is Ghost of Tsushima on Lethal difficulty. Ghost of Tsushima Combat and Unity combat are _remarkably_ similar, I was actually floored the first time I played it. The major difference is that GoT always gives you some kind of effective response to any size of group, even if all you're using is your sword, parries and dodges. That doesn't mean it's easy, and you will still probably die, but that's a matter of experience, not inevitability. In Unity, the length of animations means you can get stuck in perpetual "loops" where you can rarely get a fair hit on a guard because others are trying to shoot you/slash you. Guards shooting you every few seconds is actually a symptom of group-size as I mentioned, it happens when the cluster you're fighting is above a certain size. (Around 6 and above is when it starts to really get consistently awful.) This is part of what I mean by "unless the circumstances are just right." One guard and it's too boring. Five to six guards and above becomes essentially untenable. Between 2 to 4 is when it feels great, but the amount of times you'll fight two to four guards in ACU is _quite_ small, I find. With all that in mind, I hard-focus Stealth so it doesn't bother me too much, because I can avoid it pretty effectively, (the rest of my videos, especially Hoarders, should be a great example :P) but it's just a shame that something which used to be a core pleasure of the Assassin's Creed series, _right alongside_ fluid stealth, is just... gone in this game.
Have been binge watching all your videos after getting ACU. Gotta say I love them, Im amazed how you don't have more subscribers. I had a quick question. What gear/loadout do you use? Do you focus more on the sub-stats they provide like more eagle vision range or more low noise level, or on the main stat like stealth, health, range?
I literally only focus on Item Capacity. I care about nothing else. In terms of Coat, I go with Arno's Master Coat because it gives me Restricted Area Detection Rate. This is a short guide I made on *my* preferred Equipment + Reasons Why: ruclips.net/video/qRzjesKAvgM/видео.html
Recently bought unity in a sale and i don't care about combat because i am enjoying the game. I think every game is fine for a person if the person enjoys playing it.
I like the combat system. It's more realistic than the others and more challenging like it should be, so it encourages the player to be smart and use more stealth. Maybe it's unfun but it has its purpose and merits.
That's perfectly fine, yeah. I'm glad you enjoy it, it's certainly better than, say... Something like Origins. At least there's engagement there. What I don't like about it is how it falls apart at a certain critical mass of enemies. A better version of everything Unity did in Combat, is Ghost of Tsushima on Lethal Difficulty. It's almost _exactly_ the same, in every way, but because Jin has more freedom to move around and access all his tools in precise ways, it doesn't break down at high enemy-counts. Play it! It's amazing, if you like Unity fighting, you will LOVE Ghost of Tsushima.
I hope AC does bring back the animations and pakour(sort of), customization from Unity, but as for the combat let it stay because it was one of the main biggest complaints of why many ac fans was tired of the series. It was too predictable and ai didn't really give a big challenge(besides Unity)and pressure you enough like the current ac games Origins and Odyssey. Even the 3 ac teams stated they was tired of the old combat.
I'd rather never have anything like Unity combat again haha. Just... Such a drag to play no matter how good you get. It's so limited and simple. It probably has the fewest moves you can do in a fight out of all the games. Hell, even AC1 has more depth in combat.
@@LeoKRogue lol I've been playing it lately and I realized it, if you get the best armor with lots of smoke bombs in the belt, all you do is spam smoke bomb during combat and keep killing people. Smoke bombs are too overpowered in this game lol
Jeez man you look like such a wholesome guy i just had to comment. Your videos are great even though ive only watched 1 or 4 of them i can already tell you are really loving this game. I recently got into Unity because it was free and ive always wanted it since 2014 when it was first announced, I just never really bothered spending money on it because of all the hate it got. But man this is an amazing experience so far and i gotta say this has to be the most underrated Ac game and all the hate is just sad to watch. Me as a Black flag player when i got into unity all these new mechanics blew my mind and it was and even still is pretty challenging and i believe thats the best part, the challenge, Ac was never challenging enough for me of course i do not know about other people but... It always felt east Press E then Attack and there u go execute. Unity is definitely a buried treasure that i wish more people got to see the beauty of it. Cheers mate i love your passion keep them great content!!!
It is a very unique, very distinct experience that I've never received from a game before or since. It's all its own thing, completely. I thank you for your kind words, I genuinely appreciate the time and care you took to express what you just did. May Unity continue to treat you well, and I hope you eventually check out my 2019 No Upgrades run ^__^ Treviso also makes great Unity content. He's in my Featured Channels.
Leo, can you make a tier list on the most thick assasins haha. I liked your joke video on being the worst. Now we need a video on the most thirst haha. Or some other joke video!!!
Oohh the thiccest Assassins. Hmm. Can I put Templars in there too? Because god damn, I fall for Templar girls alarmingly often for someone who's firmly on the Assassin side.
i can agree with this stuff except for when you do missions in open spaces. although those kinda missions only exist in co-op, it can get quite tideous to not find cover that protects you from all the enemies' sight lines
this isnt the sneakiest way but if you have a pretty high stealth level you can run threw and get a couple hidden blade kills and hide after you are far enough away from the guards
Gianfranco Guerra Padilla You mean... like any other AC? Ok. AC has always been the gaming equivalence to popcorn kino. You feel overpowered and can basically do what you want and still feel like a badass. Unity butchered that, which is why many didn't enjoy it.
@@MisterK9739 Pretty great point, Mister K. I think this exemplifies the very polarizing reaction Unity tends to get. Some people really don't resonate with it because it feels like a mechanical shift that didn't need to be there. Others love it for exactly that reason. I kind of fall somewhere in the middle with this game. I love how great stealth can feel if you play it fast, I love Smoke Bombs as a throwable item, and some of the Movement is interesting, if only because the city is incredibly tall which gives twice the air-space to play into. Combat, meanwhile, is an aspect of ACU I've never been hot on. Some people swear by it! But it's not for me. Too limiting, and with fewer options and tactics than I might like. Syndicate reverted back to a more high-paced style of close-combat and that was met with similar reactions. Some people liked it better because it was faster, others felt like the choppiness of the animations compromised too much. It's wild how the balance has never been gotten... Quite right...
I this unity combat is the best its ever been in assassin's creed, not just the counter attack insta kill of ac 4 and earlier nor the boring bullet sponge sudi rpg of origins and beyond
That's fine. You're free to think that as much as you wish. Note, also, that 'good for Assassin's Creed' isn't a high bar to clear. Assassin's Creed has never had fantastic fighting. It just did its job. In Unity, combat breaks down, and doesn't even do _that_ much. Food for thought.
The only thing I love about AC Unity is the freedom to do some fluid parkour at your own pace. There's literally nothing can stop the flow (but for the gunman, but that's the rare case) and the grace of moving from Point A to Point B respectively. Even just slowing down is a crucial part of efficient parkouring. Also, this also serve as an excuse to slam those gunman's face with a hidden blade mixed with an overdose of berserker blades. Fuck them.
At 5:39 also a roll would have played well: there was a rolling option there and what is the correct button combination RT(High profile) + O? I don't remember...
Do you still read new comments on 2+ year old videos? Lol I’m about 7 years late to the Unity party, but I’ve been really getting into the game lately and loving every moment *that I’ve been able to tolerate.* Been binging your old videos, too, and I love your channel :) What are the odds you’ll upload or stream anymore of this beautiful tragedy of a game anytime soon? There’s not much more you could teach in new videos that you haven’t already taught before I’d bet, but I really just wanna watch you play this game some more haha
I do! For some reason this one was caught in the Filter. I've just done so much Unity content that it's hard to think of any new ideas or anything that hasn't been done. So it's a big Maybe, for now.
I think Unity's combat is solid because it's more difficult, but still has a lot of depth. AC2's combat was garbage, and only the hidden blades were good. Brotherhood gave you the chain finishers to basically skip combat because they knew how bad it was, 3's was okay, 4's was really easy, and this one actually has difficulty and depth to it, with how many options and enemy varieties you have. It's slow, sluggish and brutal, but I feel like it's actually something to be learned and mastered, unlike the previous entries' combats. Syndicate's combat was fast, but really shallow, and Origins' combat was also solid in my opinion. Both Unity and Origin have my favorite combat mechanics in the series, both for their deliberateness and depth (and the fact that they're actually somewhat challenging). However, I play Assassin's creed for the stealth, so for the purposes of this video, I agree with your points.
Alright. I would recommend you reexamine your thoughts on AC2 by looking at Execution Producer's tutorials. There's probably more depth there than most of the other games, most of which we as a community only discovered in 2021, and I'm personally pretty bad at it ---- I don't mean stumbling through it, but using it to its true capacity -- but I love it for its wide array of possibilities. I'm with you on everything else though. ^_^
@@LeoKRogue if there has been some real new innovation to AC2 combat, that is really cool, but from what I played, it was pretty rough. I'm perfectly open to checking out some new tech if it makes the combat a lot better. AC2 was the game I struggled to like compared to the other AC games, even in its own trilogy, so if they found a way to make an aspect of the game a lot better, then I'm perfectly willing to check it out.
Combat is really good tho... It really feels like a Combat between a lot of people with everyone attacking you instead of just one guy fighting while the others look.
We all have different taste and that's alright. For my liking, there are much much better and more functional fight systems that do this more effectively. We'd have to look outside of Assassin's Creed, though.
i play fast paced semi avoiding combat but i never really think about it , it happens naturally because im fully aware of most of the mechanics . good video though. oh , and you can use you pistol from the roof and go back to hiding so no one will detect you ..i use this to clear enemies on other roofs or on the ground .
That's usually what every player should aim to achieve, yes. Not having to think about it means you don't waste time processing information and can just Act.
I find it a shame you have to wear certain clothes to get the best stats. I know I can equip an outfit, but I don't really like any of them too much. Imo the game is more fun with worse gear, but not having a good amount of smoke bombs or blades is annoying.
It's definitely the most fun with worse gear. I have a full No Upgrades/No Skills/No Armor walkthrough commentary on Unity and I still enjoy playing that way sometimes.
Saying that combat in this game is bad means that u actually liked the shitty ac4 combat where u can kill 40 guards by pressing circle, square over and over again.
Wrong. Unity is my least favorite but Kenway Saga is my second least favorite. AC has never had a great combat system in all its iterations but Unity's is exceptionally poorly designed. Animations break often. Responsiveness issues which are worse on consoles. Immense amounts of input delay on every single action. I could go on all day. If you enjoy it, I'm really happy for you. Being human is a beautiful thing because different people can love different experiences. If this is one that suits you, I can definitely appreciate that. But don't try to convince me, because I've put hundreds of hours of thought into analyzing this specific game, and over a thousand making content _just_ for Unity alone. Thank you for the comment.
Do you think you could make a video specifically about this game's AI routines? I've noticed them doing some really odd stuff, like bouncing detection off each other if only one of them sees you, or randomly having superhuman hearing. I know there are some guards that are hard-coded to always stay in one place that I call sentries, so do you think it has something to do with these guys?
About the only sense of consistency I get is with those sentries you've described, yeah. Usually they'd be two Spearmen (Defenders) standing at a choke or doorway, sometimes they're a line of four guards standing in front of a bigger gate. Aside from that, the other things you outlined and described above are known bugs. It's a big part of why we abuse items so much, to lower the chances of a glitch screwing us over even though we played correctly.
Hey! Only just found your channel after getting Unity last week. I honestly cannot believe it took me this long to play it, it has solidly become my favourite entry in the series as far as gameplay. I've started adopting this "play fast" style and it's absolutely revolutionised my playthrough. The high profile assassinations on enemies is OP as hell and really does make quick work of stealthy infiltration missions without the tedium of watching guard patrol routes all the time. How important would you say High/Low/Takedown Noise stats are when it comes to building an outfit for this playstyle? Essential or can I still use my Tailored bracer (cus all the others I don't like the look of :P)
Hey RJFaux! You can actually use pretty much any gear with this playstyle as long as you have a Belt with a lot of Smoke, and a Bracer with a lot of Berserk Blades. Sans-Culottes Belts and Military Bracers have you covered, in that regard. Aside from that, you can wear whatever you like. Takedown noise really doesn't matter for the most part since any situations it would come into play are covered by Smoke Bombs to "set up" kills anyway. Thanks for the comment. :D
So, I don't know where else to post this question, because you're the only person I know who actually answers comments even in years old videos. So here goes. High profile assassinations in the old games extended your reach. So, say, if you were hanging from a ledge and a guard was above you, you could do a HP button input and the Assassin would leap over the edge and stab the guard. And in Unity, that still seems to be the case. For cover assassinations, at least. But I can seem to get one going from where you are hanging on a ledge and a guard is right above you. He just doesn't seem to want to do it. Am I doing something wrong here ? Is there a specific button input now ? Oh, and uh. How the hell do you get Arno to preform window assassinations properly when they are from the side ? He just doesn't seem to want to. Thank you in advance.
You are correct. However, in Unity, Ledge-Assassinations are the ONLY High Profile Assassination type that does NOT extend your kill-range. I have no idea why they chose to do this, it's awful and seems like missing the point of its design as an action. But yeah, their only use is to stack a kill action and a get-up action into one. Window Assassinations from the side are incredibly finnicky. Just gotta hold High Profile and mash the hell out of that Hidden Blade until he wants to. The enemy has to be pretty close, as well. They look very cool though.
@@LeoKRogue They do look very cool. And man, that blows. One of the best feelings in the world in the older games was swiftly flying over an edge thanks to a HP button input and sinking your blade into the target. Taking that away is just silly. Well, thanks, Unity. And an non-sarcastic thanks to you, Leo.
Dont forget the disguise I used that a few times where every angle was watched I just swapped to a gard and walked in killed the objective then smoked my way out.
There are contextual exceptions to every rule. That moment is less than 1% of the total game, and you should obviously adapt to changing rules so you don't get yourself killed. Most enemies in Assassin's Creed Unity will not wield Swords of Eden against you.
honestly, i prefer the slower approach of playing. To put it simply, i prefer using my own skills and relying on them more than i do resources if that makes sense.
Applying resources correctly is no less skillful. It's all in the game, this approach doesn't involve any external tools, programs, etc. Everything that exists is just being used to its maximum potential. An argument could also be made that playing "raw," you're playing with fewer variables in mind and thinking about less things at a time. But yes, it does make sense. One day I'll still make that Low-Item vs High-Item playstyle guide. One day. It involves very different mindsets and considerations so it's fascinating in its own way.
You can play it a second time and enjoy it much more now. That's what happened to me once I learned these things. If that's too extreme, replaying missions you liked from the Progress Tracker in the Pause Menu is also good. :)
I don't know if you use the double tap on "X" (Ps joypad) which triggers a little 1\2 meters jump ahead and that can be useful sometimes, and I don't know if there are other things like this that can be exploited (keeping all realistic) to create results\performance of the avatar that standard player don't need to know or the developers did not intend to make players know and be able to use in order to play.
It's very sluggish/slow, doesn't reward skill and mastery, doesn't look or feel cool enough for me, and frequently breaks ("drops" button presses etc). My favorite example of a combat system that is almost identical to AC Unity's but actually done to perfection is Ghost of Tsushima on Lethal difficulty. Lightning-fast, buttery smooth, lots of skill-expression and reward for mastery, and genuinely hard in a way Unity only ever gestures at with annoyance.
Absolutely. It's the best tool the Assassin has access to in Unity and Syndicate, and it's an easy Reaction to so many situations. If you're playing without Smoke Bombs, your effectiveness as an Assassin decreases by at least 30%. It's insane.
I don't know how to say but I like the combat, I really like it but the thing that as you define well is slow and a mistake ultimately is something I share. It seems contradictory but it's not and additionally i also share the fact that the game should be played with more assassint style so staying stealth and respecting the mood and context, not revealing yourself (sure a little fight in a corner can happen... but still can be avoided with that poisoned blade wrist projectile thrower) however is crucial. The speed can't be too high but, also too slow in the game can become boring and a bit also unrealistic somehow as Arno should have studied the place earlier or it is supposed to be a pro and not an aethernal temporizer, (Yes I know about EV but it's more like a wall hack to me). I love the contents of your videos.. I can't explain it well enough. This philophical opportunities you share is what the game really needs, and in general gaming does need to be about quality and immersion which I am all about. AC Unity really is good in stealth but doesn't look bad in the fights if these are performed with a sort of cinematic taste and technical player skill. Of course one needs experience and taste in order to perform well in there too (you have shown several examples of that in Weapon review videos or elsewhere, even if random you did that with style. That's the thing, videos discussing how to build style... and yeah maybe the answer is simply play a lot and build it by growing experience and technical skill, learning more on what are the tools and what you like the most. In fact a fight could also feature some parkour in between (even if it is pretty dangeorous and open to fk ups due to the enemy immediately turning to ranged weapon if you do that). I also think the game is greatly made also in fights... this is indeed what is a main appealing thing for me. The opponents do behave in a very realistic manner, the animations are on point, the chance for back parry and diversity of movements of Arno and not only him are just amazing. This is one or some of the reasons why I am attracted by the fight despite I share the idea the game is probably cooler if played in total stealth. However a lot of the answers and feeling a player has depends on the meaning given to things: for example a smoke bomb for me is great to exit an area for a cool ninja\Assassin style, or yea.. to initiate the dances... can be good... and sincerely I love the most the idea of throwing a smoke and passing through without kills too. or maybe leaving just one down maybe knocked down (but it will take a lot of time) ... simply to break the idea (meaningless) that after a smoke cloud goes away nobody will investigate the entire area (which is something the game does and it's not realistic nor cool)... so by leaving someone down you could reinforce a non sense and still keep it believable (for my hyper realistic, hyper critical taste).
It's definitely a matter of preference. For me, Ghost of Tsushima did Unity's combat better than Unity did. It's hard, you die fast, but enemies die fast too because your blade is sharp and Jin moves quickly.
Definitely. They'd try to avoid it as a matter of subtlety and grand-scale strategy - Templars knowing too much about their positions would make the long-game much harder - but were they to get into fights or small skirmishes, they would excel at them because Assassins are eminently lethal.
The reason the combat is slow is because there is no counter parry bullshit, the combat is actually probably better than the other games in terms of skill needed. That's just my science though.
I'd argue ACU combat is even more limited than AC1's in terms of tactical depth and breadth. Then again, the masses love Origins and Odyssey combat right now so I guess you and I are BOTH fucked xD
I haven't tested it recently but I remember it not doing such a thing back in the day. Try it out yourself and comment fresh so I see it, I'd be curious.
Arno's Master Coat, any high tier Belt that carries lots of Smoke, any high tier Military Bracers for lots of Phantom and Berserk. ^_^ You don't really need anything else, and those look cool besides. The hood and pants are up to you.
Depends on what you mean by making it easier. You can make it somewhat easier Statistically, by getting good gear, and you can make it somewhat easier regarding Decision-Making and Pathing by using your Eagle Vision a lot more. To that end, what I would suggest for you is: - Arno's Master Coat or any Sans-Culottes Coat, the higher rank the better (Legendary Best) - - These decrease your detection speed, which gives you much, much more time for someone to stare at you before you get pulled into Combat. The meter over their head will fill _way_ slower and give you time to Berserk Blade them, or hide quickly. - Any Hood with strong Eagle Vision radius or duration. Your basic gameplay flow if you get caught _a lot_ in Stealth is as follows: - Move forward and take cover behind a safe cover-object like a wall or a corner - Pop your Eagle Vision to look ahead of yourself quickly - Tap your run button while holding your movement sideways or forward to smoothly detach from cover-objects you've Snapped to, then use the information you just gained from Eagle Vision (guard positions, current movement-path, current facing) to Smoke Bomb them, which helps kill Groups, or Berserk Blade them, which helps kill Singles. - Repeat. The better you get at the game, the faster you will be able to do all of this, and the less times you will need to do it. Good luck!
@@LeoKRogue Haha I know I'm replying a year later but it turns out my number 1 problem was just not paying attention to my surroundings. I learned to be more cautious of my next move and how I will react afterwards. ^~^
Short follow-up to my previous vid on Advanced Unity Techniques.
Hey man just curious. You planning on doing anymore AC content? Unity or even the new one when it drops? I understand this content you uploaded was a while ago. Just wondering
Primarily an AC channel, so when I have good reasons to up AC stuff, expect a bunch of it, yup yup.
@@LeoKRogue sounds good bro. Gotta give you my subscribe then. 😆 sorry I'm so damn late to the channel
Hey it's no problem. You're here now. Thank you. ^_^
Leo thank you so much you don't now how much i get better in this game because of your videos love you❤️😁😁
To this day I'm still surprised how smooth and fluid Unity actually is. Perhaps at the time it was something that wasn't as visible due to the game's numeral technical and performance issues. But if you've got the hardware to brute force it and the game doesn't break on you, it just flows so much better compared to the movement and animations we see in Origins/Odyssey.
Absolutely. It's one of the game's biggest claims to fame.
Ghost_Leader I still find the game to play clunky at times. But I do agree it plays much better than at launch.
I have it on Ps4. It runs the same.
Chris Cisneros what? It’s like 20 FPS on ps4
@@knight1706 go cry about FPS elsewhere, Boy. Maybe you'll gouge your eyes out if you see a glitch in the real world
Do people really not like the combat? It's certainly not the best and has it's flaws, but I wouldn't say I hate it either.
Some people really really Love it. I am not those people. :P I do like the things it tried to do.
Unity is the easiest and the most fluid experience in AC. I enjoyed unity more than any other game in AC franchise.
I'm sure that about 70% of the people who follow this channel feel the same.
aV1d _24 Nah, the older ACs had a more responsive control over parkour
@@Sevren_ try going back to AC1 from unity and tell me how the Parkour is.
Leo K [Rogue] Yep
Very good words!
Probably one of the smartest comments I've gotten on any Unity video in a _long_ time, thank you.
Dude you gained a follower
I'm reinstalling unity to enjoy the depth I didn't see at first
Thanks for following, Alex. :D
Take a look at the previous Unity for the real huge depth.
Amazing, thoughtful comment.
I definitely feel ACU carries the spirit of Assassin's Creed in a way I miss.

Thank you so much for your great comment, too.
actually i think unity has fun combat BUT it is absolutely frustrating encountering more than 7 enemues at the same time because 3 of them will block every attack while 4 of them are shooting at you all the time
Yup, that's exactly what I'm talking about. You can be in a situation where you basically have no response.

Thanks so much Jon. I'm always down for anything Altair. Favorite character and my favorite game. Not just in AC but gaming in general.
The combat in this game is about as useful as a just dance arcade in a retirement home
That's actually so real T_T
God I just need another, more fluid and consistent multiplayer ac game, cause it was just so much fun messing around in this game with friends
It'd be great to play something like that again. All the little tricks Ubi did to even make Unity work in co op border on sorcery too.

AC Rogue isn't as fluid as Unity but I'm currently playing it and these tips actually apply oddly well to 4 and Rogue, so thanks a ton man!!
I just discovered your channel and I'm loving this keep it up!
Thanks so much! Rogue is a pretty fun game. I like it decently.
Nah.
0:30 Beside’s the one problem of NPCs inconsistently timing Their attacks
Don’t know what You’re talking about

But not slow
It’s also still pretty Fun
Especially with a Spear
I Love Spears
Sure, sure.
My brother, nephew and I still play the game especially the multiplayer co-op missions. We even replay some missions for fun and money aspect, it makes us better assassins. Never go in "loud & dumb", always go in "quiet & easy".
That's such a heartwarming thing to hear.
Hopefully some day I'll have a group to play Unity with when I redownload it
I got soo tickled when the combat was shown..Like... what kind of assassin fights like that?! I couldn't stop laughing at how slow he was swinging that sword..
For real haha. I really respect Unity for what it tried to do with combat and I think if they gave it a strong second try it would be absolutely phenomenal. What we got in the game that shipped though, wasn't.
Is it me or these had better graphics then odyssey ?
Unity absolutely did. So good, in fact, that many computers and Normal PS4s/Normal Xboxes couldn't run it properly.
Same mechanics as black flag.

i love your idea of gameplay and approaching the game in general.

Surely i will check them out.
And if you don't use the items, what are them there for?
5:36 I like that execution
Probably my favorite in the game.
In my opinion, combat is the most challenging and fun.
But I got to the point where I did a lot of Solo Stealth Heist on the Luxemburg Palace to the point where I was like "Aight im rich enough, lets go in guns blazing :D"
Combat is a mixed bagged for some, however I like it is because no matter the archetype of the enemy, the enemy will always make the effort to try and parry your attacks (Unless their Gear Level 1 and your Gear Level 5 or their the brutes with the axes).
If you don't wanna fight the guards, that's alright as well.
tldr: I agree with your statement on combat, but I still love AC Unity combat cuz I stealth way too much so I go guns blazing (Plus Arno roundhouse kicking a guard when doing a perfect parry is pretty badass ngl)
Edit: Also holy fuck, one nitpick I have which I don't mind, but it happens way to often where I just want to point this out.
(Around 6 and above is when it starts to really get consistently awful.)
This is part of what I mean by "unless the circumstances are just right." One guard and it's too boring.
Class is in session
All the time.
I’m subbing, you are straight to the point and your videos are filled with super helpful advice. You are awesome
Aw, thanks so much! I can't promise new AC content for a while since I'm taking an extended break from the series, but I'm glad to have you here.
@@LeoKRogue, I completely understand. We all need breaks every once in a while. Hope life treats you fairly!
I really enjoyed your video, that’s some next level quality here.
Thanks! I have a few others on Unity, mostly stealthy area wipeouts. If you search Hoarders Stealth Reaper on RUclips that's probably my best one.
I just bought unity
These videos are helpful
I'm glad to help! I hope you enjoy the game, it can be a bit frustrating when you're first starting out.
Absolutely. ACU is very special and I love the rest of it.
This game is So much fun i still play this game to this day❤️
Me too. ^__^
Commenting as smooth as the Vid... Nicely done... as always... :)
You're SO NICE TO ME.
@@LeoKRogue Only honest... You know that... :)
Aggressive stealth is such a way to go in Unity. The way I see it if you draw your main weapon even once during a mission, you fucked up big time.
That's the most satisfying way to play, for me at least. Just manage enemy Detection using items and flow through like water.
I just found out about your chanel. Very interesting topics. Hope you bring out more
Jeez man you look like such a wholesome guy i just had to comment.
I will. :]
@@LeoKRogue haha yes, but I hope Connor makes the list at least honorable mention XD!
Connor is cheeked up af, let's be fair
i can agree with this stuff except for when you do missions in open spaces. although those kinda missions only exist in co-op, it can get quite tideous to not find cover that protects you from all the enemies' sight lines
Yeah, you do have to play to the mission layout. Wide Open spaces will slow you down until you learn where every guard is.
this isnt the sneakiest way but if you have a pretty high stealth level you can run threw and get a couple hidden blade kills and hide after you are far enough away from the guards
I guess that the real mistake is believing that 1 person can defeat more than 20 guards without any problem 😅
^___^
Leo K [Rogue] Nice videos!
@@MisterK9739 Atleast Unity's combat was challenging. You could easily take out 40 to 50 guards in Ac 3 and 4 without taking any damage.
Is it just me or does shays outfit look really good on Arno?
It's not bad at all, yeah. The way they render dark colors in this game's clothing is pretty pleasing, IMO.
RT+O for sure.
Do you still read new comments on 2+ year old videos? Lol
I’m about 7 years late to the Unity party, but I’ve been really getting into the game lately and loving every moment *that I’ve been able to tolerate.* Been binging your old videos, too, and I love your channel :)
What are the odds you’ll upload or stream anymore of this beautiful tragedy of a game anytime soon?
I remember the first time i rushed trough a co op mission without detection i felt amazing
Hell yeah.
i play fast paced semi avoiding combat but i never really think about it , it happens naturally because im fully aware of most of the mechanics . good video though. oh , and you can use you pistol from the roof and go back to hiding so no one will detect you ..i use this to clear enemies on other roofs or on the ground .
That's usually what every player should aim to achieve, yes. Not having to think about it means you don't waste time processing information and can just Act.
Patience is key to stealth in unity
Kind of, but not always.
Oh
Great video keep up the good work
Thank you, I'll do that :D
Great video! Just wondering what colour you use throughout this video is it blue or black?
If I remember, I'm using Pure Shadow (Black) with Arno's Master Gear
I find it a shame you have to wear certain clothes to get the best stats. I know I can equip an outfit, but I don't really like any of them too much. Imo the game is more fun with worse gear, but not having a good amount of smoke bombs or blades is annoying.
It's definitely the most fun with worse gear. I have a full No Upgrades/No Skills/No Armor walkthrough commentary on Unity and I still enjoy playing that way sometimes.
@@LeoKRogue yeah I have seen that. I really like arno's original gear.
Disguise is quite strong, indeed.
AC Unity, where you need to escape combat when it's- "Ah shit, they're too many"
Indeed indeed. There's just no more gameplay after a certain threshold of guard numbers.
The tilted footage at the beginning made me reload the page lol
Oh no hahhaa
1:05 what about the last memory, you have to hug the wall or u will take a bunch of damage
One day. It involves very different mindsets and considerations so it's fascinating in its own way.
imagine if they had more prep time for acu , it would've been the best game ever even till now it's graphics is unbeatable arguably
Still looks better than a lot of more recent videogames. It's insane.
Hey how do you have end game gear at the start? As far as I know you cant really play through the main quest again after finishing it.
You can, actually!
Pause, Progress Tracker, highlight any Main Memory and tap Replay. :D
That Dutch angle though
I love it.
I wish I could've watched this before finishing the game...
You can play it a second time and enjoy it much more now. That's what happened to me once I learned these things. If that's too extreme, replaying missions you liked from the Progress Tracker in the Pause Menu is also good. :)
I like your words
Thank you, I like yours.

Hey leo what are some ways the money pouch could be useful
Make a blend spot anywhere you're standing still if there are crowds around you, it pulls them toward you.
@@LeoKRogue I know that, but is there anything else I could do with them?
Not really. :/
There's probably a lot of those but I can't think of them right now since I probably do most of them automatically.
why dont you like the combat Leo? i thought it was okay, revelations is my favorite tho would love some videos of the bombs
Lightning-fast, buttery smooth, lots of skill-expression and reward for mastery, and genuinely hard in a way Unity only ever gestures at with annoyance.
smoke bomb is overpower in this game
Absolutely. It's the best tool the Assassin has access to in Unity and Syndicate, and it's an easy Reaction to so many situations. If you're playing without Smoke Bombs, your effectiveness as an Assassin decreases by at least 30%. It's insane.
You can quickshot agiles while running if they detect you c:
You can, yeah! Just can't be in Combat-State, so running a short distance usually works.
How do you throw smoke bombs. Thx the video. I play on PC if that helps
1. Select Smoke
2. Hold the button instead of tapping it. It should be F by default.
@@LeoKRogue thx u
I prefer the combat in unity than in Syndicate or Odyssey or origins (sorry if bad english, Still learning)
Your English is good. I don't like Odyssey combat very much either, so I can understand that. ^__^
I think an assassin's creed scenario irl, Assassins would avoid all out combat at all costs
Definitely. They'd try to avoid it as a matter of subtlety and grand-scale strategy - Templars knowing too much about their positions would make the long-game much harder - but were they to get into fights or small skirmishes, they would excel at them because Assassins are eminently lethal.
actually like the combat
I'm glad. It's very much not for me, I found Ghost of Tsushima a better version of Unity combat, and it's actually even harder, too.
Does Berserk overdose work in the Kenway games?
I haven't tested it recently but I remember it not doing such a thing back in the day. Try it out yourself and comment fresh so I see it, I'd be curious.
I've tried it, and it doesn't seem to do any difference. The berserk poison runs its same course, regardless of how many doses you give the target.

one question? specs and resolution you use?
GTX 1070
Ryzen 7
16 GB RAM
1080p60fps
Is their a way to make it easier for stealth like difficult wise bcz i get caught so much its unbelievable
Depends on what you mean by making it easier. You can make it somewhat easier Statistically, by getting good gear, and you can make it somewhat easier regarding Decision-Making and Pathing by using your Eagle Vision a lot more.
To that end, what I would suggest for you is:
- Arno's Master Coat or any Sans-Culottes Coat, the higher rank the better (Legendary Best)
- - These decrease your detection speed, which gives you much, much more time for someone to stare at you before you get pulled into Combat. The meter over their head will fill _way_ slower and give you time to Berserk Blade them, or hide quickly.
- Any Hood with strong Eagle Vision radius or duration.
Your basic gameplay flow if you get caught _a lot_ in Stealth is as follows:
- Move forward and take cover behind a safe cover-object like a wall or a corner
- Pop your Eagle Vision to look ahead of yourself quickly
- Tap your run button while holding your movement sideways or forward to smoothly detach from cover-objects you've Snapped to, then use the information you just gained from Eagle Vision (guard positions, current movement-path, current facing) to Smoke Bomb them, which helps kill Groups, or Berserk Blade them, which helps kill Singles.
- Repeat.
The better you get at the game, the faster you will be able to do all of this, and the less times you will need to do it.
Good luck!
@@LeoKRogue Thank you! I will try these.
Let me know. ^__^
