    I tend to wear gear based on what I’m doing. If I’m clearing out chests, I’ll get the gear with higher lockpick capacity. Going on a stealthy mission, make sure to have a lot of smokebombs and darts. If I’m just running around, having some fun, I’ll just throw on something I think looks nice. Unity is fairly easy to play, and I don’t get too caught up with having “high end” gear.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Год назад +47

      I actually love that approach to respond to whatever scenarios you anticipate. Things like that make me wish Unity had something like loadouts because swapping gear is something I find tiring in this game, and I'd do it a lot more if I had the will. As it is now I'm way too comfortable on my one General setup that "basically works for everything." 😅

    Agreed, in any game with gear or stats you usually should just equip & upgrade what’s best for you & your playstyle. For example, if you don’t plan on entering combat at all, there’s no need to equip gear that boosts health.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Год назад +7

      For sure, and there can even be some satisfaction in predicting things not going according to plan sometimes, so tacking on a _little bit_ of extra help in specific parts of your setup to easily respond to those feels good. Getting the balance between those and your "main" focus is a special kind of tension that can be really fun, the best RPGs make _this_ part of their buildcrafting/setups feel interesting.

  • @ht0sia

    wow, I really like how you answered all of these questions! you actually put in words everything I learned myself throughout my playthroughs and you let me reflect on my playstyle, on why I always didn't understand why to try to get «best» gear (in stats, not in usefulness for me), but not just working with the best you already have and using it rationally.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much. :D Yeah, most players won't need it for most missions, even though there can be a kind of fun in working toward being as strong as possible. Still, it takes enough time for minimal difference in your gameplay experience, that it's not really worth getting it "perfect."

This is especially visible if you're being detected from someone at long range, so if you really really hate Gunners or want to move through their sightlines in RAs, getting a much stronger Coat than what I'm happy to sit on _can_ be pretty good.

For me right now I focus mainly on reduced detection by blend (I think it had 100+ percent but it’s lower variant was better), military bracers and the band are my go to gears. For blend I’m saying more on the lines of disguise since I use that skill a lot. But yeah.

    Most stealth points: Sans Cullote gears
    Most health points: Medieval gears
    Most ammo friendly: Military gears
    Also, equip the special ability based on your mission you're currently doing. Disguise for stealth, health regen for health so u don't use many medicines that are so expensive, and cache if u go playing on range. The group eagle vision is pretty useless to equip

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Год назад +3

      Yeah, it's really that simple. Communal Sense / Group Eagle Vision has a "hidden" effect where it actually increases how long your EV lasts, stacking on top of your existing EV Duration from Hood. A viewer of mine did tracked that manually on a spreadsheet a while ago and I was considering making a short video on it at some point.

    I gotta say, I definitely respect your passion and how you look into the mechanics.
    I have my weird quirks, and it basically always leads me to get gold diamond gear out the window. The absolute moment Arno is spat into Paris, at 1 diamond, I'm off spamming It Belongs In a Museum. I start off buying the Legendary Sans Culotte Chest for better navigation in the museum in general, than the Gold Pistol, Cinqudeas, Military Belt, Napoleonic Bracers, Phantom Hood, and Culotte Breeches.
    Then I hammer through Tournament and Moving Mirabeau and such for points.
    Basically I'm outright hardwired to go from the starting 1 diamond gear DEAD to the fifth gold tiers.
    Then I go and just dump whatever money I get after to random gear I find appealing, until there's nothing left to buy.
    I do it very messed up.

      @@LeoKRogue I'm glad I saw this too, and funny as it is, the reason I had this habit of grinding my ass off for every last piece of good gear in every game(even the ones that didn't need it like unity) was that I had a lot of time to play these games as a kid and also didn't get bored easily because I was a kid, but as I grew up not only did it waste my time but also made me hate many games that I otherwise would have enjoyed, I never really needed the top gear to progress in any game but it was just an artificial compulsion that I had forced upon myself for some reason, I literally would finish the whole game and then just waste my time grinding out the top gear before proceeding to uninstall the game to make space for a new one. Lol sounds pretty stupid now but at least I have stopped doing this now. well, it was literally one of the most impactfull video that I ever watched concerning anything which could be correlated to with a similar situation as video games, meaning that something that can be done should not always be done. Great points about Unity. I remember a lot of the marketing (and even the in-game stat bars) was trying encourage delineated playstyles where you could focus in on ranged, melee, or stealth builds as if it was Odyssey. In reality, Unity fundamentally does not support this kind of build crafting-melee is awful (and getting good weapons is incredibly easy), there is literally no dedicated ranged playstyle (rifle has the same range as the pistol lmfao), and stealth, like all classic ACs, is based off your *movement, your tools, and your knowledge* first and foremost. Stats do not reasonably effect gameplay enough to actually mean anything in Unity. It’s telling that the best gear in the game is the gear that specifically increases your *tool* capacities, just as the tool upgrade capacities are the most important upgrades you can get in previous AC games. In reality, Unity is a classic-ish AC game that follows the typical formula with an ill-fitting gear system overlaying it with almost zero tangible benefits except for playing barbie doll dress up with Arno.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Год назад +3

      I felt exactly the same about this game basically on Day One.
      If they wanted to make builds genuinely matter, every facet of those had to be appealing enough to actually make a player want to focus on it, but as it is only Stealth and Ranged really make any appreciable difference, along with your Weapon. Movement has no stats associated with it. Combat feels so horrible and has such a low skill-ceiling / potential-cap that speccing into it is basically trolling yourself.

That's amazing.

    A mod called “Outfit Manager” allows transmod system now, so hello high gear for me!
    Awesome thing with the transmod is that it allows me to create the outfit that you see in the cover art of the four main assassins. Judging by their weapons and cinematic trailer, it’s very clear what class they are. First guy on the left is a warrior class with his axe, second left is Arno being a Jack of all trade but master of none, and the last two on the right I assumed are range class, one loud with the pistol/rifle, and the other is quiet with the phantom blade, poison gas, and smoke bomb. With outfit manager, I was able to recreate the axe assassin on the far left by using the entire medieval gear, but transmod it to look closer to the cover art. One example is the medieval chest gear being transmodded into the Tailored Phantom Coat, since it’s the only chest gear that has similar front design and a folded sleeves on the right arm.

    Up until AC Origins and the following games, it was possible to beat the AC games without upgrading your gear apart from mandatory story upgrades that you can’t opt out of. It was less of a numbers game since combat was animation based rather than using a hitbox system. It wasn’t until the rpg based games that using higher level gear became more of a necessity than option. The older games allowed players to test their skills by using their characters skills/weapons and played how they wanted to. Now I’m not saying the older game’s combat system was better, as that is up to player preferences, I’m just noting a difference between the two.

    a lot of the endgame gear is way too flashy for my taste and i end up just putting on a random gear set i think looks good or an outfit. a lot of the times
    i just keep the belt and bracers the same no matter what i wear because i feel they’re incredibly important to my play style. i like using pistols as a tool in stealth so i have the phantom belt, which gives me all the stealth tools i need but as well as extra ammunition. the bracers are usually the napoleonic ones for that small damage boost. honestly, the way i play changes quite a bit and i feel like the items i use reflect that.

    I simply wear Arno's tailored attire, because I think it looks best.
    Master attire looks great, but too flashy. A lot of the attire in the game does. Assassins don't want to stand out at the best of times (Machiavelli wanted Ezio to look his best in Rome), but the French Revolution is not a period you want to dress ostentatiously. Brigand and Sans-Culottes would blend well, but look too common. His tailored attire is a perfect middle-ground (probably why it was in most of the marketing). Although, of course, the colour scheme you use for your attire can make anything look less or very flashy (using brown or white, respectively). Just wear what you like, basically.

    Frankly the only reason for NG+ on Unity and even Syndicate is just for the convenience and tedium you save in presumably already having all collectibles and 100% sync. Just having multiple save files on those games (an issue which can be sidestepped on PC) would be enough, because you genuinely don't need endgame gear to complete either game as you've said and as I've done. For me in AC, I've always prioritized chasing the gear that actually matters (belt, boots and bracers in Unity's case) while still looking classy because the games are largely easy enough to get away with that. The San-Culotte belt having a red sash to break up the otherwise monotony of Arno's blue coat and a snappy-looking bracer does it all for me.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Год назад

      Definitely. I'm much the same, Unity is playable enough without upgrades that you can finish the entire game on Default/Starter gear with no Skill Unlocks, so at the end of the day wearing what looks sick is the play.

    Belt is all I worry about. Ammo hold for whatever I feel like I'm doing. I just flat out ignore stats. I've literally beaten the game with low level gear only because I found most of it ugly.
    Stealth, just avoid line of sight in general and you well be fine in most situations. So Those stats are just dumb. Hell high damaging weapons flat out outweigh low defense in fights. Give them slice and dice faster than they kill you.
    Also I'ma just say it. AC has a habit of making you 3 and 5 times stronger than you need to be for even the hardest parts.

    • @LeoKRogue

      Belt is massive, yeah. Can't really go without it for personal comfort. Also you're right, this is something myself and a few other gameplay-heavy creators have noticed, Assassin's Creed is basically "balanced" around the starter power-level across most of the series.

    Nah, legendary sans culottes coat is the objectively best coat for detection rates and overall stealth. Legendary end game gear don’t really have diminishing returns as Eagle vision duration, cooldown, max ammo capacity, blade capacity, all bomb capacity and many more superior utility boosts. For those watching this and thinking that you should listen to what he is saying, don’t even worry, end game gear is end game gear for a reason. Depending on your play style, end game gear is actually very suggestible. Also, museum mission gives you 70k per completion so it’s easy to acquire end game gear while you learn how to be more stealthy in those missions. So yes, grind for end game gear

  • @barneysaggers1637
    @barneysaggers1637 Год назад

    Okay, yes, but also no.
    You’re correct to say that items come before gear in Unity, and higher stats will never beat raw skill and experience, so the focus should be on improving your skills and relying more on items than gear stats.
    However, it’s also objectively the case that certain gear is just better than the rest. The Legendary Military Bracers and Belt are far and away the best of their types in the game because they give the maximum amount of Phantom and Berserk Blades, as well as the maximum amount of Ammunition, Smoke Bombs, Cherry Bombs and Stun Grenades.
    And yes, the Legendary Military Belt over the Legendary Sans-Culottes Belt. The only upside of the Legendary Sans-Culottes Belt is having more Lockpicks, and you don’t ever need 35 Lockpicks. If you do then you seriously need to focus on improving at lockpicking, it’s not that hard.
    Beyond that, the Legendary Napoleonic Hood or the Legendary Sans-Culottes Hood are both arguably the best in the game. The former gives you double duration on the Assassin Cache ability and so allows you to replenish all your items every so often, critically being long enough in duration to replenish one Phantom Blade with every activation. The latter gives you a powerful boost to the range, duration and cooldown of Communal Sense. No other hoods have anything like this level of power, and they both compliment gameplay - one allows you to replenish items and tackle situations with more verbs at your disposal, whilst the other allows you to keep track of enemies much more easily on the fly.
    The Legendary Sans-Culottes Coat and Breeches are also both the best in the game, without a doubt. The coat gives you the largest boost to Restricted Area Detection Time, Blend Fade Time and Time to Blend, thereby massively increasing your social stealth and aggressive stealth abilities. It’s that simple, no other coat matches it. As for the breeches, they’re the least important part of gear in the game - health or stealth, that’s all breeches affect, and if you want to reduce noise by the largest amount possible then it’s the Legendary Sans-Culottes Breeches all the way.
    I’m not saying that the message of this video was incorrect, you’re right to say that the focus should be on skill, experience and item usage instead of gear stats to compensate. But there is also an objectively best gear set to use which enhances active gameplay and allows the player to have more options at their disposal, rather than just compensating for the player’s weaknesses.
    Unity is easy when it’s not bugging and if you play it correctly, as you said, but you can make it easier still and have more items and opportunities available to you for every micro-decision if you wear the best gear, and that seems obvious to me.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Год назад

      You missed the point of the video. Yes, some gear is objectively better. I even admit this. Because it's an obvious truth. The other side of that truth is that it costs SO MUCH MORE TIME to acquire for MINIMAL benefit past a certain point that the average player would just be wasting their time. If you disagree we have nothing else to talk about. If you have the TIME and the willingness to farm LONGER for more stuff, yes you will obviously be stronger but no one needs to be told that, it's not some hidden secret.

    • @barneysaggers1637
      @barneysaggers1637 Год назад

      Okay, but does it really take that much longer? You recommended doing Political Persecution, one of the hardest Co-op Missions (which in all likelihood you’d have to play solo 3 times at least due to how difficult it can be to beat the time limit at the start) to get Arno’s Master Coat.
      In that same time, you could have played It Belongs In A Museum several times over, made 70k per go and could have bought all the best gear I listed. They only cost 125k-165k each, that’s 3 completions at max and usually only 2 completions of the mission to get each piece of gear.
      Even if it took you 15 minutes a round, which is miles longer than the optimal routes and strategies would take, you’re only looking at around 3 hours of grinding that mission. AT MOST. If you’ve already made a load of money from the Café Théâtre income and literally any other source of money in the game, it will take you a lot less time, perhaps only an hour or two.
      An hour or two of play to get the best gear, which is by your own admission better than the rest. Even if that’s only marginal. Your recommended alternative was successfully playing and completing Political Persecution up to 3 times, which would likely be solo and could take well over an hour and a half itself.
      I didn’t miss the point of the video, I think you’ve just exaggerated how long it would take to get the best gear, and underplayed how much better that gear is. No, you don’t need it. Your No Upgrades runs showed that, and I’ve played Unity No Upgrades myself, I know it’s fairly easy. But that better gear can make a world of difference, and I think *you’ve* missed that.
      I would appreciate you have not being so quick to be defensive and say “If you disagree we have nothing else to talk about”. Disagreement is the start of learning and discussion. I’ve been a subscriber of yours for years and found a lot of your content helpful, I’ve commented helpful advice before which both you and others have read and appreciated, and I watched and enjoyed your AC Charity event livestream after the recent earthquakes. Please don’t just offhandedly dismiss my input and tell me “I missed the point”.

    • @barneysaggers1637
      @barneysaggers1637 Год назад

      And that’s another thing, why are you trying to cater towards what the average player would or would not do? You’re Leo K Rogue, you’re the stealthy shadowy badass who teaches us how to be the best rogues we can be, appealing to a certain fantasy and audience.
      Why are you so loathe to recommend to your audience that they invest a bit of time and effort into getting better gear? The skills you recommend learning also take time to learn and master, and practice to get used to - I don’t see you telling others to avoid those because they take SO MUCH LONGER. Why should spending a bit of time on obtaining better gear be any different?

      @@barneysaggers1637 by doing hard missions you level-up in real life. You gain knowledge and experience that makes the game more fun. Grinding easy missions for hours is fun for the very few players. For most, it's boring after the first time. It literally turns into a job. To you the efficiency is more important, but other players for the most part want their time in the game to be fun. Leo talks to that majority of players. I know I'd rather spend 5 hours to challenge myself than spend 3 hours doing the same thing over and over again.

    So im playing Fallout New Vegas: Dead Money dlc and people either hate or love it, no in between. Why? For one simple reason. The dlc removes all of your gear from the outside and locks you in. Deal with it. Scrounge for weapons, ammo and junk to make something usefull. Stealth is key (although it could be implemanted better), because you and 3 more people have connected bomb collars and it just so happens that various radios interfere with those collars, causing them to detonate, requireing patience. The enemies are also quite though, requiring dismemberment to put them down permanatly, so its best to avoid them or fight one on one, or better yet two on one with your companions. And while other 3 dlcs dont take gear from you and 4th dlc even lets you go back, from now on, im playing any and all dlc as fresh as i can, using only my skills. Even if you have default gear apart from those, you should still be able to quickshot basically anything.

      Yes, that is a factor in games like AC III in which you start only with 3 smoke bombs and can only upgrade up to five later on, once you've built the Homestead further. In my case, I do prefer to have as much bullets and rope darts as possible, so the work is fruitful.

      Use Eagle Vision any time you're uncertain what's directly in front of you, or before you're about to start taking out guards nearby. Use Smoke bombs to "prep" a guard or target for yourself, then run in and Hidden Blade. Berserk Blades can stun guards from a distance and give you a good number of seconds to run at them and stab them. Their "going crazy" animation lasts quite a while after being stuck with a Berserk Blade, and during that time they can't see or hear anything (and stop moving completely) so this stun-and-stab approach is very strong on lone guards who you can't headshot.

      Copy / backup your save somewhere, and start a new playthrough. Unity's not the kind of game that offers much of the "endgame" style of replayability. Now that you've basically done everything in the game, try finishing a run as the weakest possible Arno with no skill unlocks, no upgrades to weapons or armor and the starter/default gear. There's really not that much left for you, other than testing how good you are by playing it in its hardest state like that.

      That's totally fine, and on your first playthrough I'd even recommend it. But also consider how much _time_ it takes to actually engage with all of those mechanisms. On a first run, you won't even feel it, it'll even be fun. But on repeat playthroughs (which, I know a lot of players do in this game) it becomes a genuine decision, and this video speaks more to that.

    • @rockmcdwayne1710

      @@LeoKRogueI dont much understand the ''repeat playthrough'' on this game. You have your progression system that allows you to replay all missions. • @LeoKRogue

      Unfortunately, there's a fair bit of content in ACU that actually can't be replayed from Progress Tracker -- all Paris Stories for example -- and players have all kinds of reasons for starting a fresh save, especially if they're creators themselves.

    So im probably missing the point of the entirety of this video, but is it technically bad to have the highest level gear? Ive been using the sans culotte hood, chest, belt, and footwear along with the military bracers, or "the best gear." Should i switch off it or should i stick with it? Im genuinely confused.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  8 месяцев назад

      Oh no, it's not bad at all, it's just not _necessary._
      Think about it like this, if there's a player who just started the game, or even deleted their save and began a fresh playthrough, there's a chance they might find how long getting the best gear takes to be tiring or boring. The nice thing about ACU is that unlike some other games, not having all that gear is not actually bad for you. So the point of the video is to free players who don't want to go through that lengthy process of getting everything, and telling them, "it's okay to play without those items since you won't have a bad experience if you decide not to chase them down."
      If you're someone who already has that stuff, go ahead and use it because it's only gonna make you stronger! :D Besides, you already got it all anyway. If a player really enjoys pushing their power level to be as high as possible, there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a great time pursuing the best gear they can get their hands on.
      I use Legendary Military Bracers and Arno's Master Coat and that has me all set.
      As for switching off, you don't need to do that unless you think it'll be fun to play that way, like to do a No Upgrades run for example;
      ruclips.net/video/9b1pV3K8ooY/видео.html
      Thanks for the question, I hope I could clear things up. If you're having fun, you don't need to change anything.

      I was looking at it from the perspective of: Well if A is the best, then why use B, especially if it doesn't offer As much as A. Rather than looking at it in the perspective of not needing it because it doesn't do much better than its counterpart.
      I also was asking because I'm very much one of those people who goes for BIS in almost all video games I play. But honestly I love this game, and I want to improve, so I think downgrading might help with that.

    So what build would you recommend for a unga bunga build. As in the most efficient build for combat. Cause my friend wants to play like this but I don't know too much about the game so we just grinded for the highest damage and health weapons with a heavy sword.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  11 месяцев назад

      Definitely go for high-tier Medieval Stuff which will give you a lot of Health so you can tank bullets or weapon hits in case you mess up avoiding damage - which in larger fights, eventually you will. Getting the Thick Skin line of upgrades in the skill screen is also really useful.
      Other than that, yeah just go for weapons that hit really hard.
      Having some amount of Smoke Bombs is also helpful since it lets you drop one in a fight and stun everyone, giving you a lot of free openings to get a bunch of hits in before everyone comes back to their senses. Because of that, looking for a Belt that lets you carry a lot of Smoke is good.
      If you want to play Unity in combat there is a level of acceptance involved, that you're always going to struggle a bit more than a player who sneaks around, since the game is designed with combat feeling weak on purpose. It's not impossible, but prepare for a challenge and to be cheap to the game right back, for sure.

    Coming from MMOs, MMO-adjacent, and more robust RPG games, the fact that there's people concerned enough with gear to mock others in _Assassin's Creed_ of all games is laughable.
    Gear optimization is not the point of these games, they're never built around it. It's a AAA series meant to appeal to the most audiences possible, it has no interest in preventing you from progressing through it. It will give you every tool you need to beat it and not care enough about endgame to give it proper "hard but fair & fun" balancing, trust me.
    And if you're playing a AAA game that artificially makes things harder to manipulate you into spending money to "fix" a problem the devs made, just laugh and use mods or a trainer. It's not worth it, fam.
    (Regarding singleplayer, at least. Multiplayer games are a different story.)

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Год назад +1

      I don't even think the RPG layer is what people cared much about, it's just that at the time, critiquing Unity, no matter how soft-approached the criticism was, was just something that was super unpopular to do. I wanted for people to take my words seriously so they could understand how much better AC had the potential to be, but in order to do that I had to prove that I was someone even worth listening to, and the way I chose seemed like the fastest/easiest way to do it.
