As a way to thank you for reaching 1,000 subs so fast, I decided to make you all want to unsubscribe. My girlfriend and I sit down to analyse, rate, and roast some of the more unpopular opinions fans have sent regarding Assassin's creed. This is all tongue in cheek so don't take anything I say too seriously. Let's hope this is the beginning of a wonderful journey together!
Assassin's Creed is an open-world, action-adventure, and stealth game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed video game series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Order of Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction, and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and historical figures. In most games, players control a historical Assassin while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin-Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. Considered a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.

I'll have to disagree about the modern day. I've never liked it. The trailers make me want the time periods. Third Crusade, Italian Renaissance, Revolutionary War, Golden Age of Piracy, the games were always about being an assassin or hooded figure running around to help people and be a total badass through time. Desmond is fun, but the animus kills me every time it takes me away from the time period and character we have to gain knowledge from.

i personally feel like the modern day feeds in to the narrative and lore in a way thats making me more interested in the ac universe as a whole and fleshes out what the time period has to offer and makes the in animus segments feel like it has consequenses and a reason to be explored.@@ac_nerd9794

My hot take is that Shay's character is really well written. I think it's interesting that he doesn't seem to care much about the philosophy of either faction, but instead he seems more focused on stopping the Assassins from messing with Isu temples. Shay feels immense guilt about killing targets, an example is his remore from killing Lawrence Washington, and has an optimistic view on people, an example is that he tells Haytham that Adewale is saving his crew while Haytham believes Ade just wants a last stand. I also think it's worth noting that the Brotherhood poisoning civilians is never proven, and the Templars could have falsified this to point Shay in the right direction. On a final note after Liam's death Shay sees both Achilles and Haytham as enemies.

My hot take is that Ezio shouldn't have been the poster boy of Assassin's Creed and I believe that characters like Altair and Basim are better fits for it because they embody this series better. Altair embodies the Creed and his journey embodies the idealistic flaws of the Creed perfectly in a way that no other character ever has. Basim quite literally is the physical embodiment of Assassin's Creed since he has ties to every aspect of AC. He's the only character who is an Isu Sage, a Master Assassin and also a modern day character.

honestly, my ideal ac setting is the Siege of Vienna. the idea of either being in the heavily fortified city of Vienna or the warzone outside while having to deal with both the Ottoman and Austrians would be really interesting (also a Winged Hussar outfit would be fire) (Emu war would also be ideal)

that is a great suggestion. my dream time period is something they brushed over in the intro of unity. imagine late mideival france during the 100year war between england and france and tying in joan of arc and sword in the stone as a piece of eden (wich the sword of eden might be in unity) into the ac lore and templars and assassins struggle. its almost perfect for ac. joan of arc was a teenage girl who lived in poverty, somehow she managed to defy the times and become an army general in the 1400s, she also claimed to have been guided by the archangel michael, saint margret, and saint catherine wich could in ac be the isu.

That sounds cool asf, me personally i think we need a game with thomas de carnelion as the mc, cause his outfit was cool asf and theres so much mystery around his character in ac unity that i feel needs explaining. Also on the topic of ac unity there was a missed oportunity for a sequel, or a big dlc with an alternate universe like the tyrany of king washington, where arno goes back to napoleon after getting kicked out from the brotherhood and goes with the grande armée, taking down important templars behind enemy lines, both aiding the assasins on an international scale and napoleon, would also allow for arno to interact with lots of other assasin brotherhoods, like the austrian, polish, prussian/german russian, ottoman etc, would be cool asf but would probably need its own entire game from how much there is to explore with the concept

I think Ratonhnhaké:ton is the most underrated assassin, and many do not see that Haytham and Connor complement each other. The reason many don't understand Ratonhnhaké:ton is because contrary to many media where we're exposed to a world through someone like us (with a Western education), Ratonhnhaké:ton is very different from us, grew up with a different mentality than the world we're used to. I think one set in Finland in the midst of WW2 would be real interesting. They were stuck between a rock and a hard place and had to ally themselves with Germany in the beginning as Soviet invades, but then they fight the Nazis near the end of the war as everything went to hell. That scenario is rife for opportunities to inject some delicious Assassin vs Templar conspiracy into.
This location and period (Winter War, Continuation War, to Lapland War) would have plenty of opportunities to display legendary figures like Hitler, Stalin, and the "White Death" Simo Häyhä (highest sniper kill in any major war) could be a mentor figure.
I think an open world such as AC3 with some amount of big cities and one massive wilderness would work the best. With Helsinki and maybe even let the player visit Moscow; if they're being ambitious, include Berlin as well.

@@TheSpaniardAssassin First I agree, but I will also take this opportunity to adress the second opinon you gave about AC games vs regular games, I am a professional game analyst, and most people are wrong roasting AC games, people think AC games is kind of a genre ora single group therefore expectation of that is flawed, AC games are meant to be different from each other, by design, each time period and ideology start different and then protagonist find or stray from the nothing is true everything is permited ideology, this in inside the game design as well but peoples expectations of what the games should be are always the same, from a technical and design perspective they are completely fine, they are meant to defy the concept of a saga and to present a different side of the story on each game, now aside from that the execution on each game has only suffered in around 3 or 4 games that is not an AC thing but different teams, time constrains and mechanics can have that effect specially in such a big franchise, this is also accompanied by the fact that ubisoft is one of the only triple A companies not afraid to take big risks.
the story of why people are more critic about ubi comes from watch dogs, I have even given lectures about how exxagerated people became after that game came out and given examples of contemporary games that had similar flaws but where from that point on antagonized against ubi, that and the huge success of ezio as a character made decisions afterwards stand out like a sore thumb and be exagerated further, this is why I agree that the community is divided, also food for thought and a fun fact, the community is big and it is divived because games have change in their genre and archetype, those changes are by design but audiences that only lean to one or the other dont seem to notice that franchises can and in my opinion should explore such tendencies (mario has been doing it since forever but since is a less mature oriented franchise people just dont see it...).
So just to wrap up, saying AC games are bad is completely wrong is a wrong but popular statement that comes from just poorly placed misunderstood concepts of general knowledge of game design.

This bs of AC not working with guns really gets to me. Like, my brother in Christ WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? Imagine the setting with a silenced pistol (which still makes noise btw and this could be a feature. Imagine needing to calculate your shots so you don't get compromised) and a hidden blade. This would be not only fun as fuck, it would be FUNCTIONAL as fuck.
Add knives and other melee wepons, yes you can argument that maybe those weapons would be less effective in combat but that only apply in an open world kinda of scenario where you have more than 5 enemies. There's still plenty of room for melee weapons to shine *specially* in CQC scenarios. THIS IS THE SAME COMPANY THAT MADE SPLINTER CELL FOR FUCK'S SAKE

16:56 my two part hot take is that watch dogs is literally modern day AC. One of the main Narrative themes of that game is that technology and innovation have allowed many more organizations to try their hands at controlling the populace and starting problems, (therefore, the Templars are no longer the only good/bad boys, or even the biggest). the first two "watch dogs" games are awesome.

I think when I do get the rogue It will be my favorite assassin speed game because it takes the settings of assassin‘s creed three and the ship combat of assassin’s creed four and put them together!
Edit: what I really want is a American Civil War/manifest destiny focusing on either Connor or his descendant and have the characters grapple with especially Connor have him grapple with the realization that Johnson was right. I wonder which side he would choose or would his descendent decide to take up arms against America.

As a new AC fan, I see why people don’t care for the modern day. I started this series in odyssey, didn’t know what was going on, just was annoyed that I wasn’t assassinating people when the modern day popped up. Then I played black flag and then unity, when again I was just confused. Now I’m playing ac 2 and actually get it and think it’s cool. AC Syndicate probably has the soundtrack out of any AC game. It feels so authentic to the era. AC Unity’s is really good, but it does sound like they made it a bit more (just slightly) modern. Or at least added a modern “flavor” into it. They made it more like a movie soundtrack. Like all the AC games, except for Syndicate (at least not anything that noticeable).

Thank you for you agreeing with me about the modern day assassin creed game, and your comment about how new assassin creed fans only really care about historical fantasy then being a ac fan.
How I got into ac was because of history. Learning about the knights Templars and the crusades just intrigued me to learn that type of stuff, and that expanding into me learning about ancient history and then modern history when I found out there were games that was set in those time periods.
I played them and when I realised that these two certain groups that has been fighting since ancient Greece, I was intrigued, even more. instead of learning history. I found something I could be interested in and I studied it with my own time and when I found the site explained everything it lost me. And when it did I didn’t care about the story but overtime I learned to know the story.
Though my understanding and till this day am slowly learning a bit more with the story.

Idk if it’s a hot take but more of an overall thought that I’ve had all throughout the series:
Ubisoft never understood what made AC great. They never understood why AC1 was good, or why the Ezio trilogy was good, or why people loved AC4, why Unity failed (and why it could’ve been the best AC game)
This explains why they took such an atrocious direction after Origins, they didn’t understand what people liked and disliked about it. I’ll go even further: I am 100% sure Ubisoft doesn’t even know that they don’t understand what made AC great

The Saboteur. On the surface it looks like it's GTA set in WW2 occupied Paris, in practice it combines simple but workable cover-based shooting with disguise-based stealth, climbing, driving and sabotage missions. 18:02 i think that's no argument to be honest, but i also won't deny that the modern day story throughout the series is great. Every AC fan has their own takes and yours about importance of modern day and still ongoing war between Templars and Assassins is a good take, but for me there are another reasons why i enjoy it and also why it isn't something that brought me to the series for real. For me it's how this conflict never changes in any of games settings when you're reliving your ancestors life and how it affects a specific character, what gets them to a fight against schemes of these powerful, evil and corrupted people. I'll also add that modern day is a nice overall storyline about being pressed by the same kind of people that you were fighting as your ancestors to still keep going and not letting them win, but IMO you experience true main story exploring past events in the Animus, even if you do that as a Desmond or Layla to find what Assassins buried long time ago. Personally as a player history of certain assassins is your access to receive a lot of knowledge about lore and to seek for answers of your own questions. Finally everybody has a different experiences with the games and i think there is just no such thing as being a real fan because you enjoy certain things more than other things or because you don't realize some things yet.

  • @RariettyC
    @RariettyC 3 месяца назад +3

TBH I get the modern day hate as a fan of the modern day plot and the texture it adds to the historical stories. It reminds me of how people get detached to sprawling cinematic universes (i.e. Marvel or Star Wars) because they weren't there from the beginning. The first AC game I played was Brotherhood in 2010 because I loved the idea of an open world game set in renaissance Rome, and even back then when the franchise was still new all the modern stuff felt like weird white noise to me because I skipped AC1 and 2. I didn't truly appreciate the worldbuilding established or the mysteries solved by that game until I went back during the 2020s to play the earlier AC games I missed.
As aimless as the modern day plots could get in the games released after AC3, I get why a AAA company would try to dial the connective tissue back to try to focus more on selling "standalone" games set in separate historical settings. I don't think the games were better for it, but as purely a cynical marketing decision I get it.

Imagine instead of the opening to 3 being Haytham, its 4 or 5 sequences with Connor, then thw animus is destroyed and you play the rest of the game as Desmond until the end where you use an Abstergo Animus.
