I wish they wouldn't have made the takedown animations so absurdly ridiculous. I just wanted to knock them out, Jacob, you don't need to break all their limbs , stab them 40 times, and send them permanently to the "poor house"
@@thedead456321 I was fixing to say that when Jacob is fighting in an underground club he can have four guys stunned and do a multiple takedown of all four.
This game really has a Robert Downey Junior Sherlock Holmes kind of feel. every single time I was fighting someone in this game it reminds me of that “discombobulate” scene. Also I would say “elementary my dear Evie Frye”. Lol 😂
Too bad Microsoft is MARRIED to their cloud servers and shit so I can't delete the save file to RESTART the ENTIRE game on my console. Yes I'm crazy for thinking I could ever play a video game from the very beginning over and over and over again as many times as I like. NOPE. Fallout 4 doesn't screw me there, Fallout 3 doesn't Red Dead 2 doesn't either. Why this one Ubisoft, why u so effed in the head as a company?
@@BlackMoonHowls just unplug the Ethernet cable, delete the local savefile, start a new game now that the console doesn't have one to load, play a bit and then after the first autosave plug the Ethernet back in again. Now the console should see 2 saves and ask you which one you want to delete.
HAHAHA!! Back when the game released people complained about the "historical inaccuracy" from the grappling hook? Those same people must be super pissed at the current Assassin's Creed. Now we have superpowers and Iron Man suits. 😂
That is new to me. The grappling hook was never an issue as not only did Batman By Gaslight do the whole "grappling hook in Victorian London" thing long before this game was even made, but also the series was never historically accurate to begin with like Torlik said.
They have grown on me but when it came out they seemed like very cliche charcter types...to the point of almost being able to predict what they say next on the first playthrough
I too enjoyed this game, more than Unity since there to many glitch i encounter when playing Unity so i just speedrun main game and DLC, skip all side then immediatly start Syndicate, my god it was far better with less bug/glitch, plus I like any game that has sibling as protagonist(since its rare) and i dont have courage to play jack DLC since jacob will die there... my only complaint was combat... punch in the face + headbump + stab + cut + broken bone/limb = they still alive... really?
Agree. I would have liked a bit more Eevie (sp) but it was a really cool concept for an AC game. I wish more of the games would invest in multiple characters like a band of brothers type story.
It’s an extemely underrated game that actually gave a try to not be the same as the other games but tried to give an entire new twist to the story. It’s got a lovely world design with two very relatable and realistic protagonists, there’s fun side content and mini games such as kickboxing and street races, it has a cool story (bit chaotic at times, though) with a happy ending, perfect stealth gameplay… I really don’t understand why Syndicate is disliked so much. All I read when people say they dislike this game is because the grappling hook is unrealistic. Fortunately AC was never meant to be realistic at all. Another complaint I see is combat felt clunky… well, it may be, but definitely not as much as people make it out to be. In my opinion this is easily the most fun game to play even after having finished the main story. I feel to see why other people disagree with this, their choice I guess. At least know what you’re missing out on. 😉
I think it had a lukewarm critical & commercial reception due to coming on the heels of Unity, which had a disastrous launch, on top of annual 'AC formula' becoming stale in the eyes of many. with all that said, I really enjoy Syndicate and I'm not even a fan of the series :D wish Evie had more story missions, easily my favorite protagonist! btw, **spoiler, kind of** - the WW1 part is an interesting setting
I’ve played it before and for me I think it’s an ok game Good: -Stealth is probably the best in the whole series -Blackbox Assassinations that are better than Unity’s -Parkour feels very smooth and fast -Setting is cool Bad: -Combat looks ridiculous and it feels like stabbing brutes with sharpened toothpicks -Parkour is so automated and safe now since there’s no manual jump or vaulting -Environment kinda sucks for parkour and encourages use for the grappling hook or carriages instead of freerunning -Story’s better than Unity but still not very good -Jacob’s a bit insufferable
its nice how you can just complety forget that it was the first AC game that introduced a ingame expirence boost for real money and that was the main reason everyone bashed on it . Not to mention that xp gains were way less in the first three versions then they are today.
Syndicate is heavily underrated and people hate on Jacob waaaaaaaay too much. People tended to call him stupid when in reality he was just reckless and was actually intuitive when he tried (just look at how he handles Maxwell Roth, he couldn't have planned for the fire but he did an amazing job at dealing with the decoys and getting Roth too). Also, an idiot couldn't have been a major reason as to why the Assassins reformed in London whilst Evie and Greenie was away. Plus people hate on his jokes, when the vast majority were more akin to victorian jokes (as the game is based in 1868) and not jokes of our standards
I agree with you. Jacob haters are just hipsters who always shout "woman character good, man character bad." We try our best to ignore them, but there's only so much we can do. And they have the upper hand these days. (I hope someone gets that AC3 reference, aswell as understanding my point. It's that sort of "woman good, man bad" mentality that is killing assassin's creed, and other media like Marvel.)
@@dreadnaught1445 Jacob is the favourite of Syndicate fans, but AC fans in general who don't really care for Syndicate, say Evie is better, because they think it makes them seem more "woke" I guess.
The grappling hook was probably the coolest part of the game for me. That along with the music gave the game that secret spy feel that keeps bringing me back every couple years.
Syndicate is possibly the most fun I’ve ever had with a game like this. Seriously, half the time I was dying with laughter because I always traveled with a group of Rookies on my tail. One time, for the vine, I told them to go attack this police officer. I KID YOU NOT, this girl ran up to the side of him, pulled out her gun, and SHOT HIM DEAD. I was dying from laughter because it was just so unexpected. 10/10 game would recommend.
It’s not a terrible game, it’s got a stylish twist on the Arkham style “tap to counter” system, a fantastic open world to explore, some fantastic stealth. But it certainly not a fantastic game by any means either.
I literally was just playing this game yesterday, I love how dang fun it was for me. I absolutely adore the twins. (Evie is 1 of the best assassin's in the franchise for me.)
“Historically inaccurate” brother, it’s an assassins creed game. The entire backdrop of ancient Isu technology is historically inaccurate. The concept of one guy in any given time period running around and slaughtering entire countries worth of people is historically inaccurate. A grappling hook in the industrial revolution is not something to cry about
Seems like you don't remember when the first Assassin's Creed came out in the trailer, Altaïr had a crossbow and then ubisoft removed it because they said it was historically inaccurate for the time. So your argument is invalid.
@@darthnox125 yes, that was the first assassins creed. Before the modern assassins creeds came out. Take AC origins for example. If you find and complete all of the star alignments and go to the Sphinx monument, there’s a secret entrance around the back of it. Go there, follow the path long enough and if you have 50 silicon then the game will give you the Isu outfit. And in AC Valhalla for another instance, you can pull Excalibur from the stone and guess what? That’s also Isu technology. AC Syndicate, which is the game that we were talking about, has Isu technology in the form of Evies secret outfit. Which means that my argument would have been invalid in the 2000s, but as the series developed it became less and less accurate
@@I_am_box you said "it's an assassin creed game" that is what I was saying your argument was invalid, because the first game is an Assassin's creed game and ubisofit made it historically accurate after they realized crossbows didn't exist. The apple of Eden, is in the first Assassin's creed game. That is Isu technology. So again. You're argument is invalid. You can't count the Isu technology because that's tied to the story, not the setting.
@@darthnox125 Except the crossbow was historically accurate to the time period. It appeared in Europe in the 11th century, and AC1 is set in the 12th... crossbows existed. In fact Richard the Lionheart, who appears in game was killed by a crossbow.
When I first tried this game I thought it would be not good. But suddenly I completed it for 100%. Side quests was interesting especially detective quests, collectables was decent and even funny (beer collection), combat was fine and characters were too. Was it a good game? Not the best. Was it covered my expectations? Hell yeah, by a lot.
Same here. I went in with pretty low expectations, especially after Unity and with the fact that Quebec studio was responsible for this game and not Montreal one. And quite surprisingly, I genuinely started to like it, game was definitely more fun than Unity and before I knew it, I got 100% and Platinum, too. And it wasn't even all that hard, don't even remember having to reload any particular mission several times for that full sync. Sure, the story, characters and animations are BS, but otherwise a surprisingly satisfactory experience. The WW1 segment after main story was a pretty good (and atmospheric) bonus, too. As for the DLC, meh. Last Maharaja was very glitchy and kinda boring, Jack the Ripper wasn't much better, either. I did them mostly for 100% and a Platinum, rather than genuine enjoyment. Still, a pretty decent game. Definitely recommend getting it on sale for everyone who was putting it off. Oh, and the system requirements are a tad lower than Unity, too.
This game needs more recognition for its soundtrack. Or I should say, Austin Wintory needs more recognition for his contribution. That harp arpeggio from It's Business, Mr. Frye that plays whenever you complete a mission is always a stray thought away from playing on repeat in my head. And then there's Give Me the Cure, Peace and I are Strangers Grown, Danza alla Daggers etc. One of the few game soundtracks appart from the From Soft games that I listen to in my spare time.
Not to mention the street musicians and the Victorian parlor songs. I always stop by Westminster Abbey just to listen to them singing God Save the Queen
This was easily my absolute favorite Assassin's Creed game. I played through the full campaign and all of the DLCs. It was and still is absolutely amazing.
I hated jack the ripper dlc tho. It was beyond stupid, didn't allow us to play as jacob, which sucked, and was painfully femenist, instead of focusing on a good mystery. The rooks are all of a sudden woman killers? Really? It's ridiculous and makes no sense. A good portion of syndicate fans don't even count the dlc as canon.
@@chrismoore5333 I did enjoy playing as Evy more than Jacob in the main campign anyway. Anyway, I thought Jack the Ripper was pretty good. One of the *best* DLCs in the series actually, imo. You want some bad DLC?! Did you try playing through *The Lost Archive* in Revelations???
@@alexbastos6960 yes I did. But that's a pretty low example to try and justify how awful the Jack the ripper dlc is. I get that evie is your favourite, but that doesn't excuse the most lazy and pathetic dlc in the franchise. I mean dead Kings comes with a new map, multiple outfits, 2 new co-op missions, a new weapon type, and an entirely new map, with a huge underground, and a new story. That was FREE! Jack the ripper is paid and comes with an insult to my intelligence, and more boring evie. That is literally it. I mean I get that the fear system is in there, but that is only a magic nonsense simple version of the same fear system that is already in base game syndicate and dead Kings...
Fun fact: The Japanese invented the first propelled grapple hook during the Edo period which spans from 1603 - 1868, so it is COMPLETELY possible that they could have a grapple hook in England in that time period considering the Assassins brotherhood spanned the entire world and shared technology. Also it's ridiculous that people complain about historical accuracy in a game where the goal is to find a magic golden apple that contains alien technology that can literally Thanos snap people.
Don't forget that one time they had us punch out the pope was 5 minutes only to talk to a planet about an impending solar apocalypse. That was also because of an apple. Or LSD. Or both.
Honestly people are going to bitch about literally anything and everything because.... spoiler alert!... ... ... They can. That's it. That's all the motivation they need. They will whine because they have a worldwide audience to listen to them and they think they're that important. It's hilarious.
I was Team Evie. I only played as Jacob when the story demanded it. "You're not starting a gang called the Rooks!" Her tone was great, she was so done with him.
The most baffling thing about Evie is that basically 90% of the actual story-related assassination missions were Jacob-only despite him being the one with the fewer stealth upgrades. Like, it fits their personalities, but what the hell am I supposed to use my hard-earned invisibility superpowers for?
@@LiveMajimaReaction I'm replaying the game now and honestly Jacob is really annoying to me this time. He doesn't seem to care about the Creed and doesn't know who Ezio is, he doesn't believe in the pieces of Eden, and he fucks up a bunch of stuff that Evie later has to fix. I forgot that it was Jacob's assassination in the asylum that led to counterfeit medicine on the market, which later lead to Clara and many other kids/people getting sick. It was Jacob's assassination of the omnibus-driver that almost crashed the transportation business. It was Jacob's assassination in the bank that led to inflation and an almost-riot over the failing economy. He *had* to do all of that for the sake of the Assassins, I know, but it would have been nice if he took responsibility in the meantime. It sucked that Evie had to clean up after all his stuff and she was clearly the side character still. THANKFULLY he does end up maturing and learns from his mistakes, especially in the Jack the Ripper DLC iirc. But in the first half of the game he's really just infuriating
@@justiniantbh I probably like Jacob more than evie because I never really played the first couple assassins creed games so I didn't know who ezio was or what the pieces of eden were either that and I tend to like combat far more than stealth which Jacob is more geared toward
Syndicate is a hidden gem. The game has a really unique way to connect the story to the gameplay. Everything you do in the world is subordinate to the storyline. Plus the protagonists are some of the best the series has seen so far.
I loved syndicate I never understood the hate the game got the two main characters mechanic was cool both with different styles and the gang stuff was neat I also loved the Jack The Ripper DLC
@@TheStraightestWhitest Evie was more of the tradtional assassin of the twins because she was stealthy while Jacob was a brawler brutal killer. Girl literally turned invisible & her outfits were more on theme with the assassin look. To me it always looked like the game was meant to play as Evie more than Jacob.
@@lovely_rae And yet she got less screen time, and half of what she did get was spent on what was easily the most contrived, jaw droppingly, mind numbingly stupid romance ever. I legit laughed so hard when they made her and Henry a thing outta nowhere after she'd been blowing him off viciously the entire game. Evie wasn't interesting whatsoever. Jacob was at least funny. He clearly got more development. I don't think she was meant as more of a protagonist. To me it felt the other way around, and that the Jack The Ripper DLC was just Ubisoft going further down the path of wokeness that started around 2014 to compensate. It got so annoying that Evie's entire character was: "Jacob the man couldn't do it right again and made things worse. Time for a woman to fix it." And Jack The Ripper was the ultimate example of that. "YOU WILL NOT MAKE A MARTYR OF ME!" Evie said, calmly, as she put 28 stab wounds into Jack.
@@TheStraightestWhitest The twins were originally meant to have equal screentime, but the higher ups at Ubisoft demanded the developers to give Jacob the bigger role and also erased Evie almost completely out of the marketing because they favored a male lead. Maybe the Ripper DLC was simply the developers way of giving Evie the screentime that was robbed from her.
I honestly miss the parkour down feature…In the newer games it is the worst part of the parcour to get down anything, it always feels clunky. And just jumping from everything and using a skill to not die ist definitely no substitute
People are retrospectively really fond of this one. I feel like it's tradition to just shit on the new AC when it just comes out and only decide whether we like it or not a year later
As an Englishman I’m appalled at the inaccuracy of this game. A man with white teeth in England that’s simply unheard of 😂😂. In all seriousness I actually loved this game didn’t really like the grapple hook but instead of crying about it, I just didn’t use it lol
@@dylanconnolly2665 I found the ezio chronicles (so first 3) to be kinda meh, but strangely everyone who likes assassins creed that I've talked to seems to think those ones are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Idk the stand alones were always the most fun for me to play.
Crazy how alot of creators, including yourself, have been suddenly doing AC vids. I just started playing my first AC game in Game Pass, Origins, and it is incredible. Microsoft has a full sale on all the major AC titles for another week and a half for $100 that I plan on grabbing. I'm new to console gaming (got a Series S) and AC Origins is great, can't wait to check out all the other titles.
Buy game + Seasons Pass. Syndicate, Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla, finish the story in the dlc. And I suggest playing AC2 and Brotherhood, in Italian with subtitles. PS: I don't write well in English, but I wanted to give some advice.
@@nadnerb_sr20 They are different, but each is good in its own way. But it's better to start from the beginning, I personally when I played Origins at first I did not understand what the apple is, and why it is so important. After ten hours, decided to postpone the game, the more the PC had problems (GTX1070 + i7 6700 16gb DDR4, SSD, but the game was not smooth). Then I remembered that 10 years ago, I passed AC1 on the PC, at 26fps, but I remember it badly. With the purchase of XBOX SX, was able to start all over again.
Finished it like a few months back. The only thing I can say that it's amazing. I truly regret listening to the criticism and not getting it when it came out.
Sorry for the late question but I've recently bought this game and I was wondering....if I buy the Season Pass do I get access to ALL the DLC? Like having the "complete edition" or something of the sorts, I bought it on PS4
This is my favorite ac game, I just love the time period! The story is easy to follow, soundtrack is amazing, good historical characters & overall good controls (in my opinion)
Same. I still don't like that the enemies have levels. But i loved the rest of it, from the clothes, to the combos, to the soundtrack and specially the Mcs. Probably one of my favorite siblings in fiction.
@@dreadnaught1445 Back at when Syndicate was new I hated the level system a lot. Not look at the newest ac games. I prefer 10 level with a small skill tree instead of a way too much and overhelmiing skill tree like valhalla. I was literally just thinking about buying this and thought "man i wish Kevduit did a video on syndicate" WELL LOW AND BEHOLD. Your timing is impeccable my dude!
My favorite part about this is Kev going to rescue the children from a factory and going on a murder spree with the chaos punctuated by the cries of children traumatized for life

I remember playing this a couple years ago when it was free to grab on Xbox Gold. I enjoyed the game honestly, but there definitely were some things that grinded my gears. I might play it again though. That or replay Assassins Creed 3 for the 700th time.
for me its not that grappling hooks arent historically accurate, its just kinda ruins the whole free run parkour thing that Unity handled really well and then Ubisoft said "we got you, bud" and now the games are set in ancient times so theres nowhere to parkour in general
Yeah but in syndicate the buildings are much taller and there are much bigger gaps between roofs and I also wouldn't prefer climbing up the big ben when a mission wants me to (atleast 2 times if you are going for the 100%)
The key is to manage the use of the grappling hook to achieve peak fun. Use it to cross gaps between buildings, to escape from combat, or to quickly climb large buildings, and use good ol' parkour for everything else
If the hook didn't exist, then the players would in turn complain that climbing around would take forever due to the wider (historically accurate) streets. And if they had made the streets more narrow for parkour, that'd have destroyed the whole historical accurate setting. So there's really never winning with the fandom.
@@FeraNelia They just poorly designed the game. It wasn’t very thought out at all. They could have done better things. You also vault your building super fast already. Insanely so. I didn’t use the grappling hook because it was so stupid and you didn’t need it for speed, that’s for sure.
This was such a good game! I recently finished Unity, now Syndicate and am moving on to Origins. I don't know why people think these games are a grind. I unlocked everything; all the levels, weapons, upgrades, and outfits in one play through. Maybe my definition of "a grind" is just different. If you have to do all side missions and collectibles, I do not consider that a grind unless... you have to do it more than once. I only did everything once. I didn't even bother with the helix memories or challenges. Knocking off side objectives was intuitive because I tend to play stealthy anyways. Liberating children and bare knuckle boxing were my favorite activities, especially as Evie!
When people talk about the AC games being a grind they are mainly referring to origins, odyssey and Valhalla. Especially odyssey that one is the grindiest by far even if you don’t try to do everything. Those games are more action rpg’s than they are games about being an assassin
I enjoyed this game a lot mostly because of the characters and how it was a lot more smoother than Unity. Though I didn’t care much for the grappling hook as I preferred to actually climb the buildings. Plus you couldn’t jump off buildings to your death either 😅
The combat is so fucking good and the parkour animation looks nice and fresh. And the story is okay to good. But what's best is the fighting. Calling in homies to fight police and the rival gang? *chefs kiss*
@@jackcutter2 Combat is terrible. It’s weightless and wastes the setting. All the weapons play exactly the same because the combat system is so simplified and lazy. The weapons just being cosmetic is indefensible.

Walks around in social class and gender norms conservative victorian London in full body armour, PANTS and weapons visible but Evie is the embodiment of stealth. Looks completely diferent from all the other women but is stealthy. Game logic, right?
@@RafaelSantos-pi8py women wearing pants was not rare at that time(and place) It would be considered informal and unattractive but if your trying to seem less out of place yea you would wear pants But everything else especially the hoodie is ridiculous as hell
@@Handlelesswithme They should have made it like Liberation with Aveline, giving us an option to wear everyday gender apropiate clothes to better fit in, especially in social stealth missions. I'm actually going through and replaying it again. Cuz the last time I played it was like back when it first came out. Definitely one of my top two favorite assassin's Creed games of all time
Imo it's the best AC game, because it actually NAILS the stealth mechanics while also having FUN traversal and FUN/flashy combat. Add to that AMAZING graphics, still to this day, and fun main characters (not the super serious ones from the earlier entries). And the first playable female assassin. I adore it.
@@Etrius_Fysik Liberation is a handheld game, not many resources were spent on it, including when working on the main character. Evie is the first full-fledged female protagonist, and Ubisoft did a great job. I played Evie stealth style and Jacob in open combat. In Odyssey, they repeated their success with Cassandra. In Valhalla, Eivor the male, is done much better than his female version. It feels like she was made at the end of development.
Jacob has mostly been the favourite in syndicates fanbase, but the media like to say otherwise because evie is female. And it makes sense, as Jacob is the protagonist and most of the game is played as him. But evie sadly got hijacked by the toxic feminist, man hater crowd, who as if by magic, always think whichever character is female is the best, in any game that has a gender choice or 2 protagonists.
@@Kaneki_.Reaper didn't say you did hate evie. I mean I'm not keen, but that's mainly because she spoilt the game. If you look into early development, it was souly Jacobs game, and boy did it look way better. But I dunno. I just feel like evie bought a toxic and angry crowd who hate all men.
@@youngnaps4933 Same mate. Alot of us only really play as Jacob. But it's frustrating to see how alot of new players come out of nowhere, misunderstand the characters and stories, and then they insult the vast majority of the game because they decide its cool to hate the male protagonist as usual, and then bland old evie is the only one that gets any praise. I've seen this happen enough with games. It's silly.
Its funny how he said about leaps of faith. In Valhalla the first time your introduced to doing them, if you don't move after landing the guy your with starts freaking the fuck out thinking you died
This and Unity are two of the best in the series. I could be biased with this one in particular though cos it was my first AC game, plus I'm definitely in love with Evie. I know she's pixels but I don't care; our love is pure xD
Man I can't believe that Jacob Frye really died trying to get the krabby syrup formula. He had such a great chance of being one of the greatest assassins to ever live.
I mean, I think the only reason I loved this game so much, was because it was the last game in the franchise, that followed that formula. Assassin's Creed games have gone through a lot of change though, origins and odyssey were alright, just if I wanted to play an rpg, I would
I always wanted a prequel for it featuring Jacob & Evie's father, Ethan. Could be set in India right after the twins are born, which would also mean featuring Henry Green's father & seeing Henry as a little boy. Of course, would be nice to see more of George Westhouse :-)
This game is my favorite out of the entire series. Is it a massively flawed game, yes. Would I recommend it to anyone, no. But does that Mean that I like it any less, also no. It's just so disappointing that this game came out in the state it did, and that most of Ubisoft's output is somehow reducing in quality. So, here's to the games that we all think are pretty cool, regardless of how bad we know they actually are!
I feel you man, my favorite is Rouge, cause it's short, sweet, and it feels just that little bit different from the rest of the series. Honestly, I like it more than 4, cause Rouge just seems so much more focused.
Kev's got a talent at making mediocre games look great or fun And then everytime I go like "hey maybe I should give this another go" Then I play for a while and always end with "Yeah, I'm not paid enough to force myself through this snorefest. Maybe if I was a streamer... Wait a second!"
I never played this game myself but i LOVED theradbrad's playthrough i watched the entire thing and a bunch of other videos too, this is probably my favorite Assassins Creed game, though i havent even played all of them
The problem is the hook for me, it makes climebing useless. Why climb when i can hook. It also limits parkour due to "spacing", its not possible to leap from building to build like the other ac games. Since they are desinged with the hook inmind. This slows down the gameplay and makes it akward.
Easily tied with black flag for my favorite in the series, if only for the grappling hook and weapon variety. The only stand out bad moment was going through the trouble of getting all the collectibles just to find out all I got was a costume for the character I didn’t use.
I don't think the game itself is bad. It's the story and characters that feel entirely weightless. There are no arcs, no themes, no interesting revenge plots. Just an angry James bond villain and two annoying protagonists that add nothing to the story.
dang seeing the “AC3 liberation” on the psvita brought back memories I enjoyed playing that game as a kid. The psp/psvita were definitely ahead of their time
Evie hurt the game to be honest. And Jacob being bisexual was actually used for narrative, rather then token representation which is cool. But evie was just token femenist dribble. And she got in the way of Jacob's story and ultimately his game. She also hurt LGBT male representation, which is really bad. So really, syndicate would do well to be remade without evie as a playable protagonist, and focus more on Jacob and his character growth. (I'm aware of the sarcasm and hate for this game aswell. But still.)
I wish they could have explored Jacobs sexuality further and greatly expanded that aspect of his character arc, but sadly Ubisoft didn't do that, which is unfortunate. We have never had a canonical LGBTQ Assassin protagonist before in the series (or since really) which would have made this game unique and compelling. I get the impression that early in development the writers just wanted Jacob as the sole protagonist, but we're forced to include Evie for some unknown reason
@@unicorntomboy9736 your exactly right mate! I've done a lot of research into syndicate development. And it is true with evidence online, that Jacob was the only protagonist of syndicate. Evie was actually the character who gave Jacob his targets and she had a black and red version of Lydia's outfit, and she had a burned face with a silver mask over it. Ubisoft insisted a female protagonist was added along side Jacob, as unity backlash for only having male co-op assassin's, scared Ubisoft into adding evie into syndicate. It also seems that Evie was going to betrau Jacob at the end, and that she wanted the shroud for herself. A few reasons why this seems to be the case. One is that evie is shown in concept art for world war 1, in the same outfit as she has in the leaked 1800s evie design, from early development. You can even find that on the current box art for the game, evie is still wearing the same necklace as lydia, and lydia uses Henry's weapon of choice, even tho lydia never met Henry... the second reason, is that watch dogs legion is a near future, remake of early plans for syndicate in many ways. One such way is the story. Sabine (who is the replacement of evie) wants the player (who of course replaces Jacob) to gain code from something called "daybreak" which is basically immortality, just like the shroud. Sabine also uses the player to kill key targets that would prevent her plans. At the end of the game, sabine reveals that she used us, and that while she cared about her team of operatives, she ultimately cared more for her goals. The final reason is that syndicate was copying AC1. Evie being the "new version" of the mentor from the first game. As for Jacob being lgbt, I do wish they went into it more. Because ubisoft have basically been gatekeeping against lgbt male fans in the new games, by insisting that only the female leads are "canon" which is a stunt they've pulled with immortals of all games aswell. Jacob is a character that's always misunderstood because of the fact some don't understand how much Jacob being lgbt means, given that his time era discriminated against lgbt men, extremely harshly. I hope ubisoft one day remake syndicate souly about Jacob, and focuse more on his position in society as an lgbt man in victorian society. But honestly I doubt ubisoft will make a game that isn't hyper focused on getting positive feedback from angry feminism.
@@chrismoore5333 I was going to add that they could have used the setting of 1800s London (at a time when being LGBTQ was criminalised btw) to generate meaningful and compelling external and internal conflict with the protagonist. Maybe have him and Maxwell Roth (who was implied to be gay) actually develop a relationship and navigate it in this setting. It could have been a compelling parallel with Arno and Elise's love story in AC Unity. Overall, I think that Jacob Frye was a missed opportunity as a character. They could have done more with him than they did. Instead he was made too paper-thin and just the guy who makes jokes all the time and essentially be a bad parody of Ezio and Arno. If I were to remake this story in the form of a tv series, this is what I would do. The medium of television would make this sort of representation far easier than in a video game, in my opinion
@@unicorntomboy9736 as a gay man myself, I don't think he was made paper thin, as what he goes though with Roth is very accurate to the times, and his personality being so loud and in your face, is very typical of gay men who are hiding that about themselves even today. Of all the gay men I know, who also love assassin's creed, Jacob is considered by them, to be accurate in portrayal and actually has alpt of depth to his character. But that isn't something most people will get, as its more shown rather than told. And it is subtle in delivery. One example would be the otherwise awful ending of the game. Jacob has seen the damage his quest for freedom as a bisexual man, has done. He has seen that the world isn't evil, its just not ready for changes that he wants. So as a man who now embraced the assassins creed, and who has traded his life's freedom for a life of giving freedom to others who can have that freedom without consequence, Jacob stands alone. Evie has Henry. She has her goals all completed. Jacob has nothing but what he arrived with. And that's an subtle moment, bit a very good one when put into context. You've got to remember that one of the main writers for the game also did writing for AC3. Both games are subtle and very in depth, to an extent that most players miss it all, and think Connor and Jacob are shallow. Perhaps it's a failing on the writers part, to not show these things more clearly. Regardless, I agree with you that the game should've delved more into Roth and Jacobs struggle in the ignorance of victorian society. But it is still an important theme in Jacobs story, and leads to the only reason he changes for the better as an assassin. In effect, Jacob is afaird of becoming Roth. Of you are interested, there's alot of early development leaked of syndicate, that are really cool aswell! I do recommend looking into it. That said, be aware that there is a group of misandrists at ubisoft right now, who have made false claims about several games... syndicate among them. However, if you do find the leaks, you'll quickly see that those liers at ubisoft are making false claims. Fortunately for us fans, some at ubisoft are willing to leak the truth, rather then allow the lie to spread.
@@chrismoore5333 Wow, I never thought of it that way before. I guess when I said Jacob was paper-thin, I meant that in comparison to Arno Dorian in AC Unity, who displays his character development in a more obvious way, as well as his depiction of his struggles with depression and alcoholism, which I personally relate to a lot, since I struggled with bad depression like Arno did. I still stand by what I said above Jacob coming across as a parody of Ezio, because the execution of his dialogue, again, does come across that way to me, whever it was intentional or not on the writer's part. Overall I just think Jacob's characterisation could have been executed better in my opinion. I agree with everything you said though. I am a rookie writer in college myself right now, and I wish I could turn this story into a TV series one day, since it has potential to be great and be better than what we got
if you stagger up to three persons near each others you can do a multiple executions, it's one of the coolest animations in the game.
ho wait it's actually up to four !
Yeah have fun trying that and even if you stun them that doesn't mean that the animation will trigger
I wish they wouldn't have made the takedown animations so absurdly ridiculous. I just wanted to knock them out, Jacob, you don't need to break all their limbs , stab them 40 times, and send them permanently to the "poor house"

HAHAHA!! Back when the game released people complained about the "historical inaccuracy" from the grappling hook? Those same people must be super pissed at the current Assassin's Creed. Now we have superpowers and Iron Man suits. 😂
And it's double ironic since the Assassin's Creed games were never very historicaly accurate to begin with.
That is new to me. The grappling hook was never an issue as not only did Batman By Gaslight do the whole "grappling hook in Victorian London" thing long before this game was even made, but also the series was never historically accurate to begin with like Torlik said.
@@Torlik11 its has some explaination to it, gun bring by the apple knowledge. Here, the grapplin is litteraly the first "boss" loot

I really enjoyed this game. The Frye Twins are some of my favorite characters in the entire series. I really enjoyed the fight club section too
They have grown on me but when it came out they seemed like very cliche charcter types...to the point of almost being able to predict what they say next on the first playthrough
@@flycosis that's fair. I think I enjoy the sorta caricature qualities of the two tbh, though I personally like Evie more

The world/theme is its best part. The actual gameplay is not that great. It has like 2 different type of enemies and thats it! Its gets boring quick.
Jacob was pretty relatable, but Evie? Lmao! Worst AC protagonist with the worst romance, or at least up there.
I’ve played it before and for me I think it’s an ok game
Good:
-Stealth is probably the best in the whole series
-Blackbox Assassinations that are better than Unity’s
-Parkour feels very smooth and fast
-Setting is cool
Bad:
-Combat looks ridiculous and it feels like stabbing brutes with sharpened toothpicks
-Parkour is so automated and safe now since there’s no manual jump or vaulting
-Environment kinda sucks for parkour and encourages use for the grappling hook or carriages instead of freerunning
-Story’s better than Unity but still not very good
-Jacob’s a bit insufferable
its nice how you can just complety forget that it was the first AC game that introduced a ingame expirence boost for real money and that was the main reason everyone bashed on it .
Jacob is actually my favorite out of the twins :’) and I agree with all you said! I just love his dialogue so much 🥺

I played on Xbox 1 and there was a bugged collectible where I could only 99% the game and it *drove me crazy

The same people who complain about the grapple hook has no problem with Ezio having a small hidden gun. AC fans are very picky with their preferences.

In my personal opinion Jacob is funny and evie is cringe
evie has also the drip , feels good
The most baffling thing about Evie is that basically 90% of the actual story-related assassination missions were Jacob-only despite him being the one with the fewer stealth upgrades.
@@TheStraightestWhitest The twins were originally meant to have equal screentime, but the higher ups at Ubisoft demanded the developers to give Jacob the bigger role and also erased Evie almost completely out of the marketing because they favored a male lead. for me its not that grappling hooks arent historically accurate, its just kinda ruins the whole free run parkour thing that Unity handled really well
and then Ubisoft said "we got you, bud" and now the games are set in ancient times so theres nowhere to parkour in general

Im playing through it rn my charcters are level 6 is playing with eve actually more engaging then jacob? please explain
When people talk about the AC games being a grind they are mainly referring to origins, odyssey and Valhalla. Especially odyssey that one is the grindiest by far even if you don’t try to do everything. Those games are more action rpg’s than they are games about being an assassin
@@youngnaps4933 2 playable characters = 2 builds, and play styles.
Jacob - open fight;
Eve - stealth;
I enjoyed this game a lot mostly because of the characters and how it was a lot more smoother than Unity. Though I didn’t care much for the grappling hook as I preferred to actually climb the buildings. Plus you couldn’t jump off buildings to your death either 😅
keep up the great videos man!
i would also like to see a full game video from you one of these days tho
The combat is so fucking good and the parkour animation looks nice and fresh. And the story is okay to good. But what's best is the fighting. Calling in homies to fight police and the rival gang? *chefs kiss*
A heart from the god himself. My ancestors are smiling at me imperials, can you say the same?
the combat is the worst part about this game imo, interesting how we see it so differently
@@actualfx580 🤨 weird how you see it incorrectly. Bet you like Valhalla's combat huh nerd 😎
@@jackcutter2 best combat goes to unity, best free running also goes to unity 😎

Evie is still my favorite assassin from the series, she is the embodiment of stealth. If you wish to see the jankiest jank you've ever seen, try to Last Maharaja DLC, you'll laugh so hard
Walks around in social class and gender norms conservative victorian London in full body armour, PANTS and weapons visible but Evie is the embodiment of stealth. Looks completely diferent from all the other women but is stealthy. Game logic, right?
@@RafaelSantos-pi8py women wearing pants was not rare at that time(and place)
It would be considered informal and unattractive but if your trying to seem less out of place yea you would wear pants
But everything else especially the hoodie is ridiculous as hell
@@Handlelesswithme They should have made it like Liberation with Aveline, giving us an option to wear everyday gender apropiate clothes to better fit in, especially in social stealth missions. If you're a woman in the mid XIX century and you're trying to infiltrate a place without suspicion, should you wear a long dress or heavily armoured coat and pants plus hoodie all while an assortment of pistols and knives are hanging out of your clothes? This is my first and favorite AC game. I enjoyed it well enough to replay it years later and go out of my way to platinum it on ps5. Though aim still sad as funk that they went down the path of RPG and a shittyer story. At least we still have the other games.

No. Just no. But you're right on that they haven't made a better one since. It all has been downhill since then.
@@RafaelSantos-pi8py Well people have opinions it’s ok to like different games lol. Syndicate is my second favorite AC game actually (My favorite one is Black Flag). Also to be honest Assassins Creed Orgins was really good in my opinion but Odyssey and Valhalla sucked I agree. I hope AC Mirage will be better.
I adore it.
Pretty sure Assassin's Creed: Liberation was a thing before this game. Never played it though, so unless she never made it to "assassin" status...?
@@Etrius_Fysik Liberation is a handheld game, not many resources were spent on it, including when working on the main character.
Evie is the first full-fledged female protagonist, and Ubisoft did a great job. I played Evie stealth style and Jacob in open combat.
In Odyssey, they repeated their success with Cassandra.
In Valhalla, Eivor the male, is done much better than his female version. It feels like she was made at the end of development.
omg that's the RDR2 house building theme!! 0:50 nice buddy
AC syndicate was the last good assassins creed game before it went all Witcher on us.
As a fellow Canadian, I agree about the syrup part at the end of the vid. The syrup should be all ours
I actually finished the game yesterday love the campaign and I mostly play as Jacob to be honest
@@chrismoore5333I don't hate Evie it's just sometimes her stealth skills is pretty broken and make stealth really easy I usually use Jacob for combat
@@chrismoore5333 Tbh I dont really care for evie I really only use jacob for the most part
It's silly.
what a BANGER outro 😂
But I didn't want the video to end HAHA
British funny man almost collapses the British economy, the game
Its funny how he said about leaps of faith. In Valhalla the first time your introduced to doing them, if you don't move after landing the guy your with starts freaking the fuck out thinking you died
This and Unity are two of the best in the series. I could be biased with this one in particular though cos it was my first AC game, plus I'm definitely in love with Evie. I know she's pixels but I don't care; our love is pure xD
Man I can't believe that Jacob Frye really died trying to get the krabby syrup formula. He had such a great chance of being one of the greatest assassins to ever live.
Only Kev can make a mid game like this fun to watch

Fun fact, Kev: there's a dlc where you get to play as jack the ripper. And it's amazing!~
I mean, I think the only reason I loved this game so much, was because it was the last game in the franchise, that followed that formula. Assassin's Creed games have gone through a lot of change though, origins and odyssey were alright, just if I wanted to play an rpg, I would
@2:30 HUGE missed opportunity to say "Discombobulate" which would've fit so perfect 😂
I’ve always loved this game so much. I’ve always wanted a sequel for it.

The last AC game
Your editing is just Great
The problem is the hook for me, it makes climebing useless. Why climb when i can hook.
It also limits parkour due to "spacing", its not possible to leap from building to build like the other ac games.
Since they are desinged with the hook inmind. This slows down the gameplay and makes it akward.
that was the most intense fight I ever seen in my entire life at 9:00
So many hours put into this game. The last good AC in my opinion.
He was straight cooking with that Sherlock Holmes reference 😂😂😂 Legit hardest I’ve laughed all month.
"Probably the most forgotten Assassins Creed title" Meanwhile people forget that AC Rogue was a game
I really dislike that game. It felt so unnecessary and a waste of development.
Like Syndicate, Rogue would have been better as a compelling TV series
The Skyrim opening at the end was hilarious.
