Have you been making any of these mistakes?
Unfortunately yes *sighs in disappointment* but some things I'm doing right!
Hey I been trying to lucid dream for a couple of months now I have never had one is there any tips you might want to say to improve my odds
Yes, yes I have! I do half-assed reality checks all the time! The thing that's hard to grasp is if your environment is very much the same, and not many unusual things happen, how can you reality check?
Well, in my first year or so of lucid dreaming, definitely yes, but safe to say I've done some course correction since then
Yes
so true about the palm method.. i performed it while dreaming randomly, didnt work, but luckily because of my practices.. after the palm, i tried pinching my nose - and become lucid x)
Thanks for the tips
my problem is; once i've confirmed i'm in a dream, the intensity fades and i lose it.
That's very common for beginners. If you haven't done so already, check out the 19 day free course here on the channel, it will help you to understand why that happens and how you can move past it. You can find it here: ruclips.net/p/PL-I34Fe94caOZTi368IVidzz2O6yVtH3z
True! It’s always important to not assume by default that you are awake, or that you’ll be awake soon, or that you will never make mistakes. Lucid dreaming really teaches life lessons!
Absolutely, and such an easy mistake for beginners to make!
I love these types of videos. Lately my first reality check seems to be 'is this where I live?' Then ofcourse throughout the day be a detective. No matter how long iv been practising I still love refresher videos like this. Great vid and love how you put it together!
Thanks Alpha, these videos take considerably longer to make, but I'm glad that the work is appreciated!
I still catch myself starting to perform a reality test on “autopilot” quite often. My brain seems to want to turn the process into an automatic one.
Hey Kiko! I am partly blinded and deafened from the livestream so, even though I was notified that you replied, I can only see a little bit of it. The small part that I can see mentions that you aren't feeling quite well. I hope that you feel better real soon and even though you said not to worry, the flu alone is still really terrible. Again, hope you feel better really soon, take care, and rest up!
@@StumpedSlicken Oh no, I did expect something like that to happen, but not that soon. One moment, I’ll paste it here. And thank you very much!
Here’s what I posted before: I'm quite sick (nothing serious, so please don't worry -- I just have a really bad flu plus a mean cold plus a throat infection, so am feeling quite delirious), so I'll have to reply to just the last part: My thoughts exactly! Digitron was pulling some strings today, I'm certain of it.
@@kikorangi8 I thought I was fully blinded up until you replied so I guess with both learned something! Like I said, I really hope you recover quickly and get better. I still don't have a good read on Digitron (I believe Cosmøtron is benevolent but, with Digitron being an alter ego of sorts, I don't have a solid read on him) but I hope that he's at least helped us out with trying to defend ourselves from mind-melting. He was definitely present today, no doubt about that. Hopefully Cosmøtron blesses you with lucidity!
Omg I didn’t know the finger through palm method wasn’t as helpful and I’ve been doing that! Ty!
Here’s a real quick comment to start off
A true onieronaut, traveling back to the future and teaching the proper method!
Unfortunately I just missed world Back to the Future Day (yes it exists, and it was yesterday!). But close enough!
@@LucidDreamPortal I guess you could say, you celebrated in the future
Love the new style of video! I find that I especially need to avoid reality checks becoming mindless, because I have OCD and any often-repeated action runs the risk of turning into compulsive behavior.
I had two more WILDs this morning and I got scared in one. How do I overcome that?
I guess that would depend on what frightened you. Generally a pre-flight check at the start of the dream, where you fully clarify in your mind that nothing in the dream can hurt you and that you are experiencing a very convincing illusion.
Playing in a tournament right now ao this is purely food for Bob. I am very interested in what this video will discuss though! I've been stressed and have had a bad sleep cycle so there's been no lucids for a bit. Hope this helps me not make more mistakes!
For me the "breath through closed nose" check is very reliable.
Great video! Here's my question for anyone to respond to:
Does it really happen that some people do the reality test in the dream and it doesn't work and they just go on? For some reason, that's never happened to me. I'm not claiming I do great reality tests. But it's almost like the moment I begin doing the reality test I am already aware I'm dreaming...Make any sense?
I've had multiple reality tests indicate that I was dreaming and, instead of sparking a lucid dream, I became confused and the dream continued as a non-lucid. I mostly attribute those to me not being aware enough when I'm doing my tests, but it can happen. Just the other week I had a test indicate I was dreaming, but instead of lucidity kicking in, I tried to rationalize the test (oh, my nose isn't shut enough) and became distracted by the dreamlings around me. But it's good how you haven't had an occurrence of it yet as they can be quite frustrating when you wake up!
@@StumpedSlicken Thanks for responding. I certainly have experienced being very close to lucidity but then getting distracted. And definitely have been distracted almost instantly out of lucidity. I do look forward to when my test seems to confirm being awake and I miss the chance. I think that will be a step forward for me in some way.
I love the humor you bring into your videos. 10/10
One trick I found worked for me was that after I do a reality check, sometimes when I pinch my nose and try to breathe I might accidently let some air slip through so I force myself to always think that I am in a dream no matter what. Of course if everything continues to make sense and I redo the test, I know that I am awake. It immediately worked in my next lucid dream where I thought I "accidently" failed a reality test but I forced myself to believe that it was a dream and I noticed things that were out of place in the environment which was impossible in the real world! Question your reality!
These videos are really very well done.
my personal favourite reality check is counting how much fingers is on ur hand, it always works for me.
It's definitely a popular stability test! I'm glad you've found something that works for you
Really loving the new style videos - so engaging
The times I occasionally will have trouble with this are reality checks during certain obligations like work, where you’re supposed to be doing something and taking the time for more than a quick check can end up pretty detrimental if you’re wrong. But if I remember correctly, you had a video about using prospective memory to catalogue that event away and then test later in those instances, correct?
Absolutely correct. And micro reality checks are something we should be doing regularly alongside full checks.
love the editing in these videos keep it up!
Thank you😊😊😊
I like this style of video, it has some jokes in it that make it even more interesting to watch! I hadn’t checked your channel in a while but the changes you’ve made are nice!
bro, i tried to do the reality check with my palms on my recent lucid dream (couple months ago) and yes ur right. it didnt went thru and i was confused because i know 100% i was dreaming. what reassured me that i was dreaming was that i couldnt count my fingers.
Helpful!
Nice, a short video but very informative
Hey DANIEL can you please create some affirmation tapes with some relaxing background music.
I haven’t come across any good ones yet,
I’m talking:
1. Affirmations in present tense
2. 1 or 2 statements on repeat oppose to 100, so it sticks in your mind easier.
3. Quiet and relaxing enough to put it into your ears when going to sleep.
They need to be honest, self-respecting assessments about where we’re at, what we’re learning, and what we’re capable of becoming. They are affirmations of truth. They need to be honest for them to work.
Finally I didn’t worry about it, just wanted a good night sleep.
Wao, you videos are getting so laborious. This was very good and I hope so much, that more people get interested in lucid dreaming.
I use three "reality checks" they are doing the most pinch one, counting my fingers, and trying to push my finger through my hand. I would use the watch over, but I do not use watches
I have bought your book and indeed is a comprehensive, down to earth guide!
Much recommended for those who have yet to buy it!
I think that being mindful at the moment, brings that state of mind when we dream.
Otherwise if we perform reality checks for the sake of performing them, even if we succeed to breath with our nostrils pinched, pass our finger inside the palm of hand etc, we will fail to become lucid, because we have learnt not to pay any attention!
Also, do you have any plans on making a video about dream recall?
From the usual stuff (intention, dream journal etc) to the more niche advices, like food, medication and everything in between that can boost our dream recall.
From my experience, my biggest problem is that I wake from a dream and fall almost immediately back to sleep, creating scenes that I'm writing down the keywords from the dream I just saw, only to waking up and see empty pages in the morning!
My problem with reality checks is no matter how hard I try I just cant get off auto pilot and ACTUALLY think to myself this might be a dream
I was doing it a bit differently,
Am I dreaming? - Anything Weird? - Text Consistent? - Dreamsigns present? - Nose Check.
I'll make some adjustments, but what d'you think about keeping dreamsign checking present within the list as well? "Are my classmates present in the room? I don't go to school." etc.
Thank you for video z☺️☺️☺️
No matter how dedicated, I occasionally need reminders to reel myself back in from getting lazy with it. Things get busy and those "micro reality tests" can start to take over.
It is a constant battle, we're essentially battling with the nature of mind with this.
Thanks
Alpha, you're an absolute wonder. Thank you so much! - May all your reality checks be mindful!
i had a lucid dream tonight for a first time i was able to ask in my dream if ``am i dreaming`` the answer was ``YES`` and then i started to fly was cool feeling and the i ask ``how was the world made`` and then it messed up and i wake up !
Hahah I remember when I first discovered what lucid dreaming was about, I went crazy and started to do 20 reality checks in a day and it never worked because I was doing it on auto pilot and I got bored without questioning and gave up.
I have been lucid dreaming for 20 years, the first 5 years was amazing, literally the best time of my life, I was a god! but the last 15 years I have been stuck in the endless blackness of my lucid dreams. Blackness, black rooms, night time, dark... everything is dark. I am lucid and I try to force the light to appear but it wont... it wont appear no matter how much I focus and try. I don't know what this means.
I’m Just Reminding Myself This
Step 1 Ask Am I Dreaming And Look Around To Spot Anything Out Of Place If There Is.
Step 2 Ask Could I Be Wrong
Step 3 Do Two Test’s
If anything weird happens during testing phase assume I am dreaming and look around to see if your dreaming
Great video again, well done! One mistake I occasionally make is I don't stop what I'm doing. Which diminishes my critical thinking somewhat. I also usually do 4 tests; remembering what I was doing last 10-30 minutes, reading, watch, nose pinch.. is that overdoing it? 😬
As long as you consider it sustainable, I'd not say you're overdoing it. The trick is to find the balance between comprehensive and sustainable. And avoid rote autopilot at all costs.
Finger through palm han never worked for me! It just doesn't go through. The reality check that works best for me is the nose. Even tho one time I was able to convince myself it was normal that I could breathe through a pinched nose
I have a question tho. In my waking life I hardly come across dream-like situations. Tonight I dreamt that the canal in front of my house was frozen and hundreds of people dressed up as hens and deers were ice skating on it. Then I discussed what happened very seriously with my university professor. This is a good representation of my standard dream. How do I decide when to do a reality check? I never come across things as bizarre and nonsense as this
Hi Pumpkin, to answer your question: it seems you might be taking "dream-like situations" a little too literally. Let me ask you this: how did you feel during the dream? Confused, surprised etc.?
Take the feelings of how that dream made you feel/think and then look for versions of those (even if weaker) during waking hours.
I hope that helps.
I had my first lucid dream in three week since I began 😂 and it happened when I had a hard time writing in my dream journal
yes indeed you are right, it failed when i try to get you fingers though my palm.
I did a finger through palm check and it worked, but I couldn't move or anything.
So, I'm like a half potato - half of the things I do correctly and half I don't (but then again, I don't think anyone is going to be perfect doing mental gymnastics to try and teach your brain things that it doesn't want to do). I think I'm the most at fault for not actually going through and thinking "hmm, what makes me think that I am dreaming" before I do my series of checks and that's due to things that happened a few months ago where I lost dreams that could of been lucids due to the time gap between me thinking and then doing the checks. Not to mention that, due to being in more social situations, doing checks right off the bat saves me time so I don't miss conversation (often times I zone out on everything else doing checks, which causes me to go dead silent and be confused when I get back to reality). Like most things, I know it's good for me but it's hard to actually do when thought to check just pops up in my mind. Hope I'm making sense - I'm tired and I have a slight headache so apologies if I am not.
Another potato aspect of my brain is that I still do the hand checks (finger through palm, counting my fingers). Granted, I do 6 checks in total and those two are not my first two checks, but, the reason I keep them in is due to sentiment. My first lucids were credited to those checks and I feel like I would be leaving something behind if I took them out of my series. I've incorporated better checks into my series so I probably don't need checks that have a higher failure rating, but I feel like I would be throwing part of my journey out the door that was beneficial (for a bit).
Great video Daniel! Although this video is under 5 minutes, it's taken me 20 to write this so I think I should call it a day. Love the new content and thanks for at least confirming that I'm doing some things right afterall!
Had a friend who was saying that he's building muscle memory for reality tests. I'm like. That's not exactly what you want to do. But okay. This video will help.
Oh crikey, they are doing almost the opposite of what they need to do, it definitely shouldn't be an autopilot behaviour!
Can I use the SSILD technique as my main way to meditate? Pay attention to darkness behind my eyelids for 30-40 seconds, then switch to listening sounds, after that pay attention to bodily sensations? Keep repeating those cycles 20-30 minutes a day. Having trouble following or counting my breaths
First of all wonderful video, my personal reality check is I ask myself if I am dreaming, then I ask the question where am I and what am I doing, then I do the nose pinch and finger through palm. After that I answer the question of if I am dreaming and tell/remind myself “when I do this test I will know that I am dreaming “
Also I have a question, if I think about a reality check/dreaming should I ignore it and only do one when something “dreamlike” happens, or should I do it for both when something “dreamlike” happens and when I simply think of reality checks/dreaming?
Thanks BHM!
I would definitely consider swapping out the finger-through-palm as it is really more of a dream control test, and relies on expectations and luck - checking a digital watch is less likely to fail you in the long run.
Honestly, as lucid dreamers we need to be opportunistic, and take every chance we can to cultivate the right mindset. So don't rely entirely on dreamlike cues - that's really just the starting point. The long term goal is to train your mind to always be ready.
I did the finger thru palm reality check in a dream once and I still didn’t know I was dreaming. My finger didn’t even go thru lol
Uff, I meant to be here to leave a cookie for the algorithm asap, but I'm sort of zoning out all day at the moment (yay, C◍r◍na 🥵🤧🤒), no doubt looking like 0:51 … So here is a belated 🍪 for Bob.
Another good video for the basic LD toolbox, andd I'm impressed at how creative you make these!
Hope you feel better soon Mikka, please take it easy and stay hydrated!
And thank you, I'm enjoying the wider scope for creativity (even if it does add a day or two to the production process!)
Hope you get better quickly Mikka!
Get well soon!
Hello Daniel, actually I've been really successful in lucid dreaming where I've got 3 lds eversince I've started learning about this subject 3 weeks ago but I have a question , so like is lucid dreaming a routine ? Since whether I try or not I always get a lucid dream on Saturday and not one any other day so why is that?
It is a routine (ish) but it mustn't become autopilot. It's likely you get them on Saturday's because you probably have a little more time in bed.
I just realized how wierd it looks seeing someone do the finger through palm reality check.
When questioning, can we do it in our heads?
Absolutely. I'd not recommend doing it out loud.
I think the main problem is all the devils lettuce, from what I understand
Idk man the finger reality test worked every time for me but maybe that's just me
You *might* be lucky, but in the years of teaching many many hundreds of students, I've never seen a test that lets people down as much as finger through palm. Because it is based on dream control which is by nature unreliable and unstable, and not on an inherent difference between dreams and waking reality (which don't rely on expectations).
If you think about it, why exactly would your finger pass through your palm in a non lucid dream (which all dreams are up until the point we realise it's a dream)? When you are already mistaking the experience for reality? That is not what the mind expects as it never happens in waking life. It is a principle that relies on luck of the draw rather than an inherent difference between dreams and waking life.
I'm not here to pee on anyone's fireworks who likes finger through palm (I want everyone to be inspired by this amazing subject), it would be great if it wasn't as unreliable as it is (and frankly, it surprised me as a teacher), my only motivation is to help people to avoid future disappointments and lost opportunities.
Unfortunately, I've seen dedicated dreamers who put in a lot of effort lose out on so many lucid dreams over the years because of this test, I don't want it to happen to others. Especially when there are far more effective and reliable tests with far sounder logic behind them.
The problem I'm facing is actually performing these checks whilst dreaming? Like I'm definitely missing something here surely? What do i need to do in order for me to actually question reality whilst I'm dreaming? I just go into a dream shall we say and it runs its course, and then when I wake up I right the dream down in my journal but I still kick myself for not performing any reality checks because my brain just sees it for what it is and doesn't question if I'm in a dream state etc. . Any help would be appreciated 😁
You're building a new habit. If you're not doing these regularly during waking hours, the habit will never develop and yes you'll never do them in dreams. This is why lucid dreaming requires a considerable investment in time and effort in waking hours.
The reason your brain assumes you're awake when you're dreaming, is because that's what you do all the time when you're awake. You need to replace that habit.
@@LucidDreamPortal That actually makes total sense when I sit back and think about it, thanks so much!!
but what if you simply cannot do a reality check because of life or work? ( i mean what if you cannot do 10 of these?)
I can't imagine really any scenarios short of being a professional stunt pilot or surgeon (and even then they're not doing intensive work 24/7) that would stop this.
@@LucidDreamPortal thanks for your answer i was just curious and was wondering about this
the porplem is that nothing wired happen with me
It doesn't have to be weird, just similar to your dreams. So that could be as simple as having an argument, feeling a little stressed, seeing someone who appears often in your dreams etc. etc.
My dream goals: goofing off
why name of this video is not reality check tutorial?
It's less of a tutorial and more a "what not to do".
I need help I’m not sure if I am lucid dreaming or not?
If you're not sure, then you're probably not. In a lucid dream you are very aware that it's all a dream. Your mind is as clear as it is right now. You are present in the experience. And you know that everything you are experiencing is a dream. But levels of awareness and consciousness fluctuate, so it's possible to have low grade lucidity or dreams that are neither lucid nor non lucid. The mind is a very complex thing.
Do you have any tips to make it feel its a real lucid dream?
@@davey3710 Try the free 19 day course here on the channel . You won't need to do anything to make them feel real, because they will be real. All it takes is a few weeks of proper training, and you'll be on your way. Find it here: ruclips.net/p/PL-I34Fe94caOZTi368IVidzz2O6yVtH3z
Do i watch each video daily
Can you be lucid dreaming, but not remember it?
Yes, that's absolutely possible. NREM is a very good memory eraser.
well i guess i am that mr.potato
We've all been there, because even reality checks that are minimally effective work *just enough* that we get some results -- and most people think the results they are getting are the best they can expect... but that's not the case.
We want to minimize points of failure and maximize success, and the best way to do that is to remove behaviours and tests that are less reliable. I've seen people quadruple their lucid dreams by removing the less effective tests (and finger through palm is by nature a dream control test... not a reality test), and increasing the psychological elements.
😁😆😅😂🤣👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Daniel love besides lucid dr3aming knowledge you are also extremely funny . Anyway I just uses rosemary oil in my pillow to promote lucid dreaming and it worked but really weird even though I was asleep I just knew that I'm asleep till I got to rem cicle I got lucid and it was very long very weird stuff and i was accidentally so I didn't bought the oil for that reason but to relax a bit what do you think Daniel Love
