Excellent vid! I often have dreams where I say to myself "it doesn't matter, this is just a dream" but in a lazy way without becoming lucid, so this vid definitely speaks to me.
I must share a relevant dream from a few weeks ago (in short form!) that nearly ended up a fake. I see this guy sat at the bar on his phone, recognise him from somewhere, yes that youtuber Daniel Love. I want to talk to him about LD but think the approach might be rude and maybe he doesn't want to do shop talk. But then he turns to talk to me, wants my feedback on a video and he shows me on his phone. The vid starts glitching and it reminds me of a vid he did once with a deliberate glitch to check if the audience was paying attention... I must do a nose pinch, that way he'll see me and know I'm an LD'er and I'll pass the test. He sees and says hey you're a dreamer, and I feel proud. But something is off. Do it again, hey I can breathe! Proceed to think, this is perfect the very man himself is here, I can now get some advice on a game plan! (i.e. I'm not 100% "online" yet) Thankfully I catch myself, remind myself he's not real and I must recall my rehearsed goals. Look up and he instantly disappears and off I go and complete my primary goal.

Firstly, thanks so much for the very kind super thanks Aquacruisedb, hugely appreciated.
And also what a dream! I love those crazy dream logic scenarios - btw, for future reference, if you run into me, I will always ask you to perform a reality test! (if I don't you're definitely dreaming!).
Dream me seems to have been busy recently - but I'm so glad you managed to shake of the brain fog and achieve your dream goal
      Stay awesome and stay lucid!

I've had dreams in the past where I only realized in retrospect that they were fake lucids and not real lucids. With some of them, I accepted too easily that I was dreaming, which is already a red flag. When I have a real, fully lucid dream, I question it thoroughly, even if I'm already sure I'm dreaming, and that critical awareness then continues into whatever I'm doing with the dream.
In waking life, retraining my brain to leave the realm of autopilot is an ongoing battle.

    • @LucidDreamPortal
      @LucidDreamPortal  Год назад +6

It's definitely difficult - the brain wants us to be on autopilot as it conserves resources, so we're essentially battling a natural tendency.

  • @StumpedSlicken

Don't panic, no not yet. I know I- wait, I got distracted by song lyrics from just a single saying? Darn, I really need to work on that! And I thought I was doing well with noticing when I was getting distracted! Oh well, more reason to test anyway.
The several false lucids I've had (and that I can remember clearly) have been weird and eye opening to say the least. In normal lucids, I'm a lot like myself in waking life - anxiety, nervousness, and frustration still do get to me, even though I do try to calm myself down. This differs in false lucids to the point where I have almost no anxiety, no negative feelings. While I still struggle with my goals in lucids, the false lucids I have have greater control and goals are accomplished. It's almost like how I would imagine myself to be in a "perfect" lucid dream.
It makes sense that these experiences are similar to daydreams as I do often daydream about dream goals and how I would ideally react in them. It's close to what I thought was happening in these - that my brain was acting with how I would like to and just runs with it. I'm more calm, peaceful, and very clear minded in false lucids but very one track. There's a shell there but nothing inside, even if they are acting like how I would want to act.
This video was awesome and something I would like to revisit/rewatch again while examining my clear false lucids. They've always held a place in my mind of something interesting but I've never had anything scientist to view them through before. Thanks for this great video!

When I was younger I loved the idea of lucid dreaming. But I didn't have any real structure to my life. Now that I'm older and have structer, I'm finding it easier to get invested in lucid dreaming and preform reality checks, and write down my dreams daily. ANd through it all your content has helped me a lot.
Though I'm still probably going to use it for self-indulgent behavior, I'm only human, and I'm no zen master. That may be the wrong attitude, but it's mine. And I wanna do cool stuff and eat tasty food without the calories darn it.

i think you just solved my biggest mistake daniel, thank you SO MUCH. i quit because i thought i was having real lucid dreams and i still couldn't control them as much as i should have controlled them. even tho a long time ago i commented about this problem and u replied 'you wasn't having a real lucid dream' and i was just confused because my definition of lucid dreaming was only knowing that you're dreaming. now i know how to really have a real lucid dream where nothing can restrict you but your mind. the next lucid dream i will have hopefully it becomes a true one and i will come back and edit my comment if it worked.

Thank you for making this video! I actually made a reddit post about this exact phenomenon a few months back. It was when I had my first lucid dream when I started practicing, and to be honest it felt like a letdown, because it so thoroughly didn't feel like I was actually there, and it felt like the lucid aspect was part of the plot of the dream, or "a dream about lucid dreaming". I had had a few lucid dreams in the past before I started practicing and I knew something was off, it didn't feel the same, but I'm so glad to hear from you that it is a real phenomenon. Thanks again!

Wow, that was a very informative video and has re-sparked my interest for lucidity. I always suspected something of this notion, but had never seen it laid out so clearly. Because I noticed that there was an inconsistency with such a sacred, high level of consciousness, present, awareness practice such as Lucid dreaming. There were too many people claiming they could do it or they would say there dreams were lucid, when they themselves really did not seem to fit the bill of what one would expect from a person who could actually Lucid Dream. When everyone can do it so easily it loses its value. Hard work is what separates the true seekers from most people.
Basically you highlighted the hard work part and for that I am very thankful 🙏 🙌 Doing things the right way and appreciating the effort is what life is about, in my opinion.

I have been taking the things said in this video into consideration when it comes to a dream i had tonight, but i can't figure out if I were lucid or not.
In case someone can tell me if the dream was lucid or not I'm going to write my dream down:
I woke up in my bed early this morning and immediately did a reality check. I had approximately 10 fingers on each hand and understood that I was not actually awake. I was in a dream. One of my dream goals were looking at my reflection in the mirror because I've heard that you see a different version of yourself. So I stood up from by bed and started to walk towards the bathroom. In the doorway into the bathroom stood my mom. I talked a little with here before I went straight into a new, non-lucid dream. I never even got into the bathroom to look at my reflection. But I did do multiple reality checks before fading into the new dream. The new dream was about me going on a trip to a strange school.
What do you think? Was I ever lucid?

I actually had a dream this morning (after trying your breaking the circle tecnique) where I was aware that I was dreaming. However, I ended up in a loop of returning to my bedroom. A sort of false awakening loop. Could this have anything to do with lucidity? Also, I've had dreams where I still have what I like to call "dream brain" after realizing that it was a dream. Sometimes, I'm even aware of this in the dream, but I can't seem to figure out how to leave this state.

I seem to be a lazy lucid dreamer, even knowing I'm dreaming I like to engage in whatever is happening. I'm assuming this could be a bad practise in the long run mayb? Thanks again xx

It's just another of the somewhat idiotic endless made up ILDs out there. Basic rule that will save you headaches, if it ends with ILD and isn't something by LaBerge (and he only created one ILD technique, MILD), it's almost certainly 100% half-baked nonsense 🤣
No reasonable or professional lucid dreaming teacher would use ILD as a suffix, it's kind of the "tramp stamp" of lucid dreaming techniques and a good sign that the person who created it is only interested in borrowing LaBerge's credibility (in other words, they're starting from a point of deception)

I totally enjoyed my lucid Dream as it gave me control over what I wanted to do, but after, it started irritating me as I tried to go back to my life as I didn't want to sleep so long, but what happened is I woke up on the same bed I check that yes this is really but again I get to know that it is false Dream, I have all the control my Dream except how to get out of it I have gone through 9 to 20 times the process of lucid Dream and false awakening starting my day with the same bed every time after realizing I am in Dream I do different stuff. Still, no matter how hard I try, I cannot escape it until my real-world friend wakes me up. Even then, I get confused about whether I am in a Dream or this is the real world.

I'm having quite a few of these at the moment! And while I don't mind having dreams in which I talk about lucid dreaming, I get quite put off by those like the one I had last night. In the dream, I was walking on a street and started to notice some clear dream signs. So, I performed the nose pinch test. I could breathe and I told myself I was dreaming. Still, I wasn't convinced. It was almost as though I didn't "trust" myself. And this is the second dream of this kind I've had in the past two months. Why can't I just accept that I'm dreaming, and really become lucid? It's confusing and frustrating!

It will come with time, it's quite a major shift for the mind to accept the reality of lucid dreaming - even when we're right in the middle of one. We've had a lifetime of only accepting our experiences as reality, so give it time, soon you'll look back on this phase with fondness. For now, see it as a sign you're on the right track!

Recently I have not been able to focus on MILD like I used to, I either drift off to other thoughts or don't put enough thought into it. Im not really sure why this is happening, I used to be able to do mild really effectively but now every time I've done it this week I drift off to other thoughts and fall asleep pretty fast even after staying up for a bit. Any advice would be appreciated

Normally this would suggest one of the following: stress or anxiety in waking life, poor quality sleep, a packed schedule, dietary or changes in exercise during the day, or potentially hormonal changes. Generally these things will pass, but if any of those ring true, that's likely your answer.

@@LucidDreamPortal Thanks, I definitely forgot about waking life and have been assuming it's something going on at night. But yea some things in my everyday schedule have changed recently which could totally be the problem, As for sleep schedule I fall asleep at the same time every night but I often sometimes sleep longer some nights because I sleep further into the morning, I usually thought all it would do would improve that specific night for lucid dreaming because I'm having more dreams, but could this be more of a negative?

Hey Daniel I was just wondering if you made the podcast member only? Because I have been looking for it and can’t find it. If it is member exclusive that’s fine just wanted to know if I missing something

      Hi Ten,
Yes the podcast is now a member exclusive perk. But is also available for a small monthly subscription on Spotify.
You can find details here: www.thelucidguide.com/lucid-dream-podcast
As the podcast covers deeper content, closer to my books, and will be going even deeper in the future, its something that I do need to charge for (the joys of paying the bills!).
This will also allow me to explore topics in a more candid and frank way.
Season 2 starts next week, so hopefully that's inspiration to become a member 🙂

I have had fake lucid dreams before but the one i had this morning was confusing to me. I did a technique after wich i tried falling asleep. It took a while but when i did i started to see an agressive white flash en sharp noice. I was kinda scared for what was happening and then suddenly evrything started quikly looking like a random place in a dream. But i never checked if i was dreaning by reality check and i feel like i accepted evrything to quik. Also in the dream i was never verry aware and didnt control things. Im just confused as ive never really entered a dream and then it happens while im awake followed by a fake lucid dream

    Hey Daniel,
I just wanted your opinion on this.
If I became lucid in a dream, used my senses to stabilise and followed my own actions of what I wanted to do, but the dream feels fuzzy, do you think this is a lucid dream?

    • @LucidDreamPortal
      @LucidDreamPortal  Месяц назад +1

Yes, a lucid dream is not defined by how vivid the dream is, although most lucid dreams are incredibly vivid. Rather they are defined by mental clarity and the knowledge one is dreaming. It sounds like you became lucid as the dream itself was fading, which would account for the fuzzy aspect. Hope that helps.

i have a problem with my Lucid Dreams. i know when i got fake lucid dreams, thats when i realize i'm dreaming but going on autopilot so not doing much about it or sometimes thinking i change the dream by doing crazy stuff but my mind is a haze and i wake up very fast and its all fragmented lucid dream so maybe Thats a Fake Lucid dream. but my regular Lucid Dreams (wich is till this day still rare, but i'm getting there) have the problem that i waking up panicking because i dont know what to do when i'm lucid. its like, i am dreaming and then realizing i dont like the scene and its a nightmare and knowing its just a dream i panic and dont know how to change anything, but sometimes its just that i get way too excited over the dream and wake up in another dream. its so annoying to get lucid but then having zero controll over the dream because of panicking or excitement.
maybe, panicking in the dream is an indicator that it was infact NOT a Lucid Dream?!
anyhow, this video is good and got me thinking about it more.
also, i'm a cellphone zombie, i look at my phone the whole day and not beeing present in the moment at all. this video got my attention left and right but my mind is always wondering about stuff. i cant focus. maybe thats why i have zero control over my lucid dreams.

@@OccasionallySmart i had a Lucid Dream last night. it was vivid and i did all the tips i remembered. doing multiple reality checks, and when the dream started to get fuzzy due to excitement or anxiety i rubbed my hands together and the dream became stable again. one test did not work wich never works (finger through palm) i also did the clockwork test (seeing how the time changes too fast) and also did the nose pinch test, thats when i realize it was all a dream. did not much interesting but talked to the dream characters and told them they were a part of my dream and it was hilarious but the dream felt very real but at the other hand Dreamlike (yeah, you know, because i knew it was not real it felt like the reality was off). it was fun to talk to my dreamcharacters and said they were all part of my subconcious lol. Before i was Lucid i could fly, so it was weird to try flying yet again after i flew the whole dream already. it was an intense dream, very vivid. i was also a bit scared or had a weird Uncanny feeling, i cant realy describe it very well. it was weird. its funny how the flying part was Before the Lucid Dream but then i got lucid and just talking to the characters lol

      @@LucidDreamPortalah i have 30 pre/fake lucid dreams in 5 months😵‍💫. I hope i get a full lucid dream soon
I'm sleeping somewhere else tonight so I'm going to sleep lighter and more likely to have a lucid dream. which technique do you recommend? would I be more likely to have a maintended awareness lucid dream? I have 1 more question: I used to have a semi lucid dream every other night. I now always have gaps in my lucidity. is this a beginner phase?

    • @LucidDreamPortal
      @LucidDreamPortal  Год назад +1

You'll probably find any focused awareness technique effective - so something like IMP would be a good starting point.
It sounds to me like you need to increase the awareness in your daytime practice - as outlined in the video, it's likely they've become a little autopilot.
But yes, it's very much a common theme for beginners. So don't panic
