      Somebody else asked that on Facebook, I'm going to re-ice it and see if that has any effect. I doubt it will as there's no way other than conduction for heat from the cabin to get to the handle which is already behind the entire door panel. I'll report back.

    • @TheIoniqGuy
      @TheIoniqGuy  2 года назад +2

      I may be feeling that the driver and driver side passenger handles might be ever so slightly warm from an internal resistive heater not from blown air from the cabin. Definitely going to try freezing those as well and see if they only did it on the driver's side if at all. Could be warmth from the sun hitting that side of the car.

      The only way that would work is there were warmers in the door handles, and that would probably be worse then melting snow becomes ice.
      I have never seen a car thats the outside of the cars body is melting snow, unless the hood after stopping, and thats real big heat, and less instlation between heat engine and ice.

    note to EV makers with pop out handles/doors...add door jam or door handle defrosters. either as an automatic feature below a certain temperature or a feature to turn on during remote start up
    a poorman's quick fix for this is, if you know its going to snow or freezing rain while it is parked, to stick on some fabric, or piece of tarp over the door handles with a magnet so that it doesn't get snow or water in/on the handle then freezing.

      you can't have "burst of 200°C." you could dump a lot of heat through the handle with a resistor but giveguven that everything around the handle is also at below freezing temperature, it takes a lot of time to beat all this thermal inertia plus the fact that melting ice requires a lot of energy. it's like asking an electric kettle to vaporize all the water inside instantly. even a small amount of water will take a while even though it's around 2kW

      Per weather.gov, "Freezing rain occurs when the layer of freezing air is so thin that the raindrops do not have enough time to freeze before reaching the ground. Instead, the water freezes on contact with the surface, creating a coating of ice on whatever the raindrops contact."

Small things but big enough in my opinion to look elsewhere even though the car gets great reviews.

      Concur, I live in the Rust Belt. I like the car, a lot, but this is a big NO GO. Design is lovely but not at the cost of function. When it's zero degrees or worse out I want to get into the car, not mess about for 5 minutes (esp. when the icescraper is IN the car). I'm fortunate to have a garage, but sitting at the p-lot at work for 10 hrs is enough to cause a lot of heartache.

Renault used to do recessed handles years ago that looked cool and no handle pop out doors have been commonplace in the hotrod world for a while, surely that would be better?

    Soon as I saw Kia EV6 / Hunday Ioniq5 door handler, I knew can was not designed with winter countries in mind leaving in Canada temperature stay at (-14C to -26C) or (7F -15F) in January the layer of ice can even be harder, same for some state of the US, Scandinavian Countries, Russia, Iceland, Kazakhstan... etc. Poor design
