I am glad I waited for the limited trim. The HUD is awesome, 360 cam, ventilated seats and great too. Living in Orlando with hurricane Ian that just went through I really got to use a feature I haven't really used yet. The AC plug under the back seat. It was a life saver. I ran fridge and a separate freezer and a few lights for about 70 hours straight until got back power. Went from 100% battery to 57% in that time. I think I had to keep in utility mode for it to stay on and I did. Should have got the V2L adapter but kept putting off. But this solution worked!
Glad you were able to use your HI5 backseat plug like that during the power outage. Hope everything is OK. May I ask what kind of extension could you used? I'm interested in preparing to do the same in case of a power outage.
Totally agree! The 360 camera is so much more useful than the parking sensors. For me I wish they had options as well. I would have LOVED to have the dashcam that uses the built in cameras. But being in the US it's not an option at all. Awesome to hear how well the V2L did for you, and glad you're safe!
Thanks everything is okay. I used just a medium duty extension cord, used a splitter because what I was powering was in different locations. I have seen in other countries the 360 cameras can record. I can't imagine it would be that hard to put in the firmware in the US.
To fix the seat issue just get your windows tinted with max heat rejection. You can do the front windshield with clear heat rejection too. That helps a ton on super hot summer days. Also the AC doesn’t have to work nearly as hard so it saves power.
One thing you didn’t mention only available on the limited trim is the memory seats/mirrors. This being our first EV in a two car household, it makes the most sense to drive the EV as much as possible regardless of which one of us is driving. So being able to painlessly switch between two drivers seat/mirror positions is critical.
I’ve used the fob parking feature several times. At work the driver of a large pickup next to me sometimes parks much too close. Same goes for a few other places in town I frequent where the parking spots are too narrow. So for me it’s a handy feature, and it’s nice not having to wriggle my way through a sliver of an opening anymore.
For me the main reason to get a limited was actuallythe 360° surround cam. Without this feature parking or even getting out of my own driveway would be almost impossible, because everything is tightly packed over here (Germany, metropolian area).
I have a limited AWD, that’s the only trim I considered. I figure if I’m paying too much for a car to begin with, I may as well get all the bells and whistles since I plan to keep this car for 8 to 10 years. All of the things that you wish you had from the limited trim are worth it, I would say. I do enjoy the roof and my five children also enjoy the roof. I myself am in a wheelchair so at times I do actually use the remote park assist, if I’m working or doing something in the garage, I use it to pull in, so I don’t have to jump out of my chair pull the wheels off throw it in the car pull the car forward 10 feet put my wheelchair back together transfer back to my wheelchair. Those things don’t take much time and I’ve been doing them for 13 years but as I get older, it’s nice to reduce ware on the body when possible. I wish the car auto locked when you get out and leave the vehicle… other then that I have been overly impressed, the HDA has been great, On my road trip home from an out-of-state dealership a couple of times and I got 4 1/2 minutes without touching the wheel before it gave me the alarm, that was pretty cool.

I've had a couple of occasions where somebody parked uncomfortably close to my left and I backed the car out of the spot using the key in order to get myself and ghe kids in. It used to make people stop and admire, but that was before the car became a common sight on Norwegian roads. Mostly I use it to get the car out of the garage so I can close and lock it while I'm waiting for others to get ready and get in. The kids love to sit inside while I'm remote controlling it
Ventilated seats is a must for an EV car combined with heated options your good to go. Love my classic Ionic 28kwh Premium version. Yes, you can easily give the back seat Windows and back Windows privacy glass tinted.
I’m happy with my SEL AWD. Some of the stuff you miss might be nice but I don’t miss them - maybe because I never had them. Overall I still don’t think they would compensate for the increased trunk room and smaller wheels/slightly better mileage on the SEL. That said I agree that it would be nice to have more options. But first they need to have more availability overall. What do option packages matter if you just can’t find any cars?
I went from CX-5 to the highest spec Ioniq 5 and therefore miss basically nothing while gaining many new cool and useful features. Your comments about what you miss and what you don’t really need resonate. I rented a basic model before buying and knew I would not be happy with it. I don’t use the seat ventilation that much because the composite leather is actually so good one doesn’t need ventilation even when extremely hot and humid; in your plastic seats that must be quite different. The sun roof is most impressive to rear passengers rather than those in the front. The one thing the CX-5 did much better is night lighting. In the city and on expressways it does not matter but for country driving it makes a big difference.
I hear you on the lights. I really do miss the adaptive lights from my Mazda. It’s funny, it seems many people that jumped on the Ioniq 5 were previous CX-5 owners.
I ended up with an SE in January because it’s what was available. I immediately regretted not getting a higher trim and waiting a bit. The cost of fixing my mistake was too high. I agree with your list of priorities and don’t cares. The one item you didn’t mention was the surround top down cameras. That would be my top wish. And I 100% agree that it would be easy would Hyundai to offer technology upgrades/options that I would pay for. Having a SE I’d be happy with heated and folding mirrors and heated seats 😊
Agreed. I did the same thing. Didn't wait for a white SEL; got a Black SE when it was available. Now I'm getting my SE wrapped with white vinyl at a cost of $3K.
> waiting a bit. Yeah, about that.... I decided I wanted the Limited... The HUD, the roof, the vehicle-to-load, the seats, etc etc.. All things I want. I test drove an SEL back in like.. April, and decided to 'do the wait...' It's now October. I'm still waiting. I put in an 'order' back in April. I'm prolly gonna cancel that order*. I have a crusty old Prius which needed a main battery replacement ( about $6k all told) and was just driving it around with a dead battery like an ICE car, waiting on the Ioniq. But I ended up just biting the bullet, getting the battery replacement and figure I'll keep it a couple more years and wait for the *ridiculous* "Market Adjustment Markup* number to go away. That and the rebates are no longer available for the Ioniq just killed the whole thing for me. So - maybe your regrets could be tempered with : Hey! You got a car... :P * It's not an order. It's a "I wish you had... plz let me know if you happen to have one fall off a truck in your lot." I hate the dealership "We sell what we got.. not what you want" model.
What I really wanted when I was shopping for the I5 was a Limited single motor. At the time there were none in the U.S., so I bought the AWD. I'm quite used to relatively underpowered vehicles (minivans) and while the neck snapping acceleration can be useful (and fun when flooring it with unsuspecting passengers), I don't really need it. I'd rather NOT have the premium sound system for two reasons: First, I'm not an audiophile and most often I'm listening to a baseball game, NPR, or a local oldies station. Second, the sub-woofer takes up almost all of the room under the rear shelf, and I could use the room when our foursome takes the car to the golf course. I used the V2L to make breakfast when we had a power outage. Pretty cool. the wife was impressed. I don't see me using a lot of features of the vehicle, but it's nice to know they're there if the need arises. I have used the ventilated seats a few times, and the HUD is great. I tried the relaxation mode while updating the map mode, but the leg rest didn't rise up enough to rest my calves on. The surround cameras are useful.
Same here. I am interested in the limited trim, but here in the LA area it looks like all limited trim cars are AWD, which I personally don’t really need.
We are looking forward to receiving our Ionic 5 limited in the next few months. Two things that we are ready to enjoy are the moveable console and the self parking feature. I specifically want that moveable center console because, as older drivers, we want the the ability of the passenger to be able to reach across the floor and knock the driver's foot off the pedal in the event that he or she becomes incapacitated. The self driving feature will be useful when the only parking spot has the passengers stepping out into a puddle or into mud. I would prefer to step out onto firm ground and then let the car back itself into the muck.
The SE is more vehicle than what’s needed as transportation. Hey, it’s not a luxury suite in the Orient Express. It’s not a Hilton room in a resort. The efficiency is phenomenal. The handling, exceptional. The interior is what meets comfort and pricing. Buying what you need vs buying what is desired can be surprisingly rewarding. SE long range battery model has all the safety features included. Live happy.❤❤❤❤❤Thanks
I wanted Limited trim for all the reasons you mentioned plus the memory seat settings. I was on wait list with 10 dealerships waiting for Limited trim for months. Got an opportunity to buy the GV60 and grabbed it! Had to think hard about spending the extra money, but it truly was worth it!
I just bought the 2023 SEL Digital Teal a couple days ago and its a beautiful looking car. Although its fall and I have only driven it briefly I have concerns that come next summer I am going to be regretting that it does not have ventilated seats. I do plan to tint the front windows and put the 98% UV blocking light tint on the front windshield to see if that helps. My main regret so far is the way the car handles stopping and starting. I traded in my BMW i3 which was a pure joy to drive albeit with short range and cramped quarters for the kids in the back but with the Ioniq 5 being a bigger beast maybe I just need to get use to the driving style. Turning off Auto Hold has helped reduce the "lurching" but its still not as smooth as I am use to. The three things I'd love to see through software and/or coding is 1) for the regen level to default on whatever setting it was when the car was turned off vs always in level three, 2) when reversing in iPedal for it to act like its in iPedal vs lurching back (especially when I am pulling out of my tight garage) and 3) for the transition from Auto Hold to driving (forward or back) to be smooth similar to the i3 or a Telsa. PS I really appreciate all your videos Corbin!
They should offer a more granular approach to options. Why waste resources on options we don't want for options we do? It would also make the options more independent so they could be added post-production by dealer in the future for much more profit. It would also improve resale if customers know that ventilated seats or hud etc can be slotted into place of their secondhand car
Corbin, I agree with pretty much all of your assessment. I love the HUD, it's my first car with it and I think I never want one without it in the future. I was fortunate to get an AWD Limited and share your take on the different aspects of the Limited trim. Not mentioned was the 360 camera views. I use the side views a lot when getting into my tight 1 car garage. I like the glass roof but really wish part of it tilted up for ventilation as I've always had cars with moon roofs and miss that. I agree there should be packages, I think a lot of people would go for them. Keep up the great videos.
I could not agree more on the HUD. I absolutely love mine. I took a long trip last weekend (in the pouring rain) and it was so enjoyable with the HDA 2.5. For example the “augmented” part of the HUD really shined and was so amazing. Because of the rain I had increased the trailing distance and the HUD would put a little dot under the car in front of me to indicate that it tracking it and as it was letting it increase its distance from me it would get progressively smaller to indicate the target distance that I had asked the car to maintain. Mind blown 🤯
The parking assist actually works really well for me and my tiny garage in the USA. Ev6 wind. I use it all the time so I don't have to squeeze my way out of my garage
I love the park on the remote function. I have a 2 car garage and it is a tight fit with an Edge in the other spot. I don't want dings on my doors so I have everyone get out before I park the car and all I have to do is line it up closeish and turn the car off, then using the remote I park the car in the garage without having to worry about the doors getting dinged by getting out.
In my Home in Norway parking is not so easy. My car is now 19cm wider than the last. Having a Porsche next to me that is even wider, makes parking sometimes difficult. I have used the `drive by key` several times , and I love it .
The Limited trim was something I asked for in my Jun 2021 "reservation" and I never got one. They flubbed the production numbers for the US. So last month I opted for the GV60; has ALL the stuff you just mentioned missing out on. Cooled seats, HUD, powered passenger seats, rear seat power outlet, rain sensing wipers, glass roof (not panoramic, but it's a good spot for the E-ZPass tag)... okay the center console doesn't slide. It does the auto parking. My spot is incredibly tight (only one side's door will have room to open to the first stop) so the auto parking is very helpful, though I need to fold the mirrors before it's done all the way in and it needs the mirrors' cameras out.
I have HUD on my Palisade and it’s sweet. You can program the colors between white, green, and orange. So the Hyundai technology for that is solid. Also, since you asked, the rain sensing wipers could be better. I’ve been in a light mist and they get stuck in high speed. Just FYI, one big design flaw for me is the garage opener buttons are on the mirror and are unlit. So you’re stabbing at your mirror in the dark and knocking it out of alignment.
I can say that I am glad I got the Limited as I would have appreciated the ability to pull my car out remotely on several occasions, especially a few weeks before I picked up my I5. I was driving a Town & Country and at work I usually park in a space at a rounded corner so that I have a lot of room on either side. Well, I was driving my wife's Leaf in the summer because she's a teacher and wasn't driving much, so might as well use the more affordable and environmentally friendly car for my daily commute. But the day we needed to go down to the dealer, I had her meet me at work and she parked the Town & Country with the intention of taking the Leaf home because she was going on a long trip that night. The spot she chose ended up getting parked in tightly by some idiot and when I went to leave I had to squeeze in on the passenger side and crawl over the center console. I'm 6 foot and over 300lbs. That was NOT fun. I've tested out the remote park in a couple places late at night and I definitely don't enjoy being inside the car as it is VERY aggressive on the braking. But with a daughter attending college in NYC and some tight parking on Boston and near family in PA, I can see this being useful. Would I have specifically spent extra just for that feature? No. But I'm happy to have it.
Dude I went from a 2018 Genesis G80 sport with fully loaded luxury features to an SEL AWD Ioniq5. I miss my 17 speaker lexicon 1000w sound system, my HUD, my Napa leather heated/cooled seats (front and back), my 360 camera view, my posh luxury interior finish, and the panoramic sunroof as well as my adaptive dampers suspension and high performance brakes. YET I love my SEL cause it’s saving me a shit load of money. I’m literally saving 750$ per month not spending on premium fuel. It has 456 ft of torque. Yeah it’s limited to 186km/h but still is fun to accelerate. I miss my genesis big time. It was ahead turner and an amazing car but I made the move to save money and I have zero regrets for doing that. But I had to wait a damn long time to get the limited edition so I took the SEL and yes I’d love to switch to the limited for the extra features.
I use my EV6 remote smart park assist from the key fob to put the car back in the garage after washing it so I can dry it inside. It’s nice not to have to get in the car all wet and grimy.
Hey Ionic Guy, here in the UK I have the Premium Trim, Cyber Grey. The BIGGEST thing which you have not mentioned is the terrible very wide turning circle. It makes doing certain maneuvers more work.
You know I did notice it being a little bigger than my CX-5 but not so much that I ever think it’s annoying. I will say I test drive a RWD ID.4 and that thing turned on a dime and I could see that being very useful, especially in closer quarters
@@TheIoniqGuy Our previous car was a SKODA KODIAQ or VW TIGUAN ALLSPACE and that turned so much tighter, thi is a pain in this respect. Wishing you well. Another point colour choices rather boring also.
Stone chips: exactly 1 day after I had received my Tesla Model 3, I had an appointment with my BodyShop and got a full front as well as door sills and back bumper PPF... worth the money so much...
Canadian spec cars don’t actually have a SEL trim level equivalent. Our choice is between a Preferred trim that mostly matches the SE offered in the US, offered in RWD with both battery options or AWD with the bigger battery. The Ultimate trim package (that matches the Limited US trim level) is a $5k option offered only on the top AWD Preferred model. Hyundai Canada has been focused on having cars for sale at price points that make it eligible for the government subsidies. That Ultimate trim package has been so popular with preorders that deliveries are 18-24 months away for most people. My Ultimate is about 12 months away still. Preordered in early January ‘22.
I don't use the automatic parking but I do drive the car with the keyfob at least once a week. I park in the garage but I also use the garage for woodworking and other projects. It is so convenient to back the car out of the garage and then not have to sit in the car when I'm sweaty and gross to put the car back into the garage. I thought it was a gimmick too but I really use it all the time.
That's a fantastic use case. I know I feel that way too when I've been doing stuff in the garage and need to move the car back in myself. I always hit the GoJo before I think about touching the steering wheel
I choose Ionic 5 over Model Y because of the cooled seats and the Head-up display. I love the moon roof. It brightens the car and gives the openness feeling. I also don't care for operating the car using the cellphone. By I do miss the car cameras recording or alerting any damage to the car. Put clear plastic on the front to avoid stone chips. My son installed it on the windscreen and the moon roof. It's cheaper then replacing them
We have the SE AWD and it's not really missing anything I need. Don't care about a sun/glass roof if they break can be expensive to fix, same for a power liftgate. I'm 6ft so closing the hatch is no issue although I can see if someone was short having a power one would be nice. HDA1 is fine for us, doesn't really matter if it can make lane changes it self. Also I would rather have the smaller wheels for a better ride and longer range, even the 19's on the SE seem to large the Ioniq 6 base model comes with 18's and has a longer range than the higher trim with larger wheels.
While I don't own an Ioniq 5 I do own an EV6 Wind AWD. I am finding the move the car with the key fob very handy when jerks park too close to me and I can't get my son into his car seat easily. I just back the car halfway out of the spot so I can fully open the rear door. Just another use case for people to think about.
I agree regarding their trim packages, i got Santa Cruz when it came out, i was really disappointed that “Premium” package didn’t have leather seats! How is it premium? However I really liked the car, its unique appearance, the only thing that started bothering me is transmission, its not smooth at all, with huge delays between parking and reverse gears, sometimes its not changing gears properly in sport mode, anyway, few days ago I tried IONIQ5 and was blown away how smooth, responsive and powerful it is! Everything I hated about that transmission is gone on IONIQ 5, because obviously it doesn’t have one, this time I will definitely go for Limited Trim
My brother said the same. As a renter, I will not know how owners feel. I test drove Ioniq 6 for 1,000 miles and I am torn between Ioniq 5 and 6. Thank you for the information.
I’m actually using the remote parking on a daily basis. Wouldn’t be able to get it into the garage and get out of the car without risking to damage my doors. I also use it occasionally to get out of tight parking spots of which there are a lot here in Germany. For my situation the function is a necessity rather than a gimmick.
Have SE trim. Agree the Pop-out handles should be standard. The demo car had them and i was surprised when they were not on my car !!!. Rear Windscreen wiper Biggest Pain (they really cheeped out on that why Hyundai) HUD never had one so don't miss it. Parking sensor is a bit sedative there is still a foot of space even when its a full tone. Rain sedative wipers are not that good I find I keep turning up one to just clean the screen. Apart from that i would never go back to Fuel cars
Actually, there is another key reason. It has to do with the typical Marketing vs. Production team battle/compromise. The Marketing folks, if they could, would have a gazillion options to increase unit sales. Any manufacturing guy would tell you: “Are you crazy? Gazillions options/packages lead to complexity which lead to quality issues, which leads to huge inventory, and then, certainly to increased costs. Toyota and Honda understood this in the 90s, I believe, and started introducing something like three/four models per make. You have the base model, like the Civic LX, the EX, the Touring and a sporty version, the Si for Honda. That’s pretty much it. The more options/packages, the bigger the headache for your manufacturing. Also, and the Marketing folks will agree, it’s “easier” to forecast how many Honda Civics you will sell as a whole. When you get to forecasting how many white with pink poke a dots Civics with a sun roof, AM/FM sound system, etc., etc., then your unit forecast is way off. This leads to Honda zone folks trying to push cars onto dealers that don’t want the poke a dot version by saying something like: I’ll give you 2 hot CRVs if you’ll take 2 poke a dot Civics…” and then that leads dealers to negotiate amongst themselves to get rid of the poke a dot models that don’t sell in their own local market to another dealer in each for “better” models… and, in the end, to discounts to get rid of the poke a dot models…
On the wheels - I have driven both. 20” provides for more stability and this is particularly clear when loading the car heavily. 19” provides better mileage.
I love the sound in my 2023 SEL. The only thing I hoped I would get is that camera on the mirrors when my signals are on. I wasn't aware at the time it would not be in the SEL but I found out later.
I officially made the first payment to reserve my ioniq 5 limited trim and I’m super excited! But I agree it’s be nice for better package options. I can live without the relaxation seats and roof but I’d really like the blind spot monitoring cameras and gif in the limited
I despise the idea of an all-glass roof. My favorite roof was a 1980's Volkswagon that had a *metal* sunroof. Completely opaque, but could be tilted up in back for ventilation. It could open fully to let in a lot of air, but that had the disadvantage of letting light in, so it was mostly used at night.
I have the SEL equivalent in Europe and indeed I confirm the HUD, the heat pump, the heated and ventilated seats are all nice features, the most useful is the HUD that I use all the time. No complaints with the sound system... but I am a classical music listener so not looking for powerful bass... Overall it's the best car I have ever owned. Fullstop.
I like the glass roof, for a different reason, I use a car cover and the glass is a place that doesn't scratch and glass is easier to clean. I do like the relaxation seat, and the moving center console because I use it when I have to leave the passenger side. Kids love the sunshade. I have not used the auto parking feature yet. I do wish the Limited has a sentry mode (like the Teslas).
I didn’t realize the limitations of your Hyundai model. I grabbed The only a V-6 on the lot in March. It was the wind, middle level. But had a full tech option. Yes the HUD would be nice to have and the automatic door handle opening I would die for. But as you say skipping gas prices and not having to go to gas station is a dream.
I have the Australian version of what you guys call Limited Trim. The rain sensing wipers are great about 90% of the time and then for some reason there are odd occasions where it doesn't sense the need to wipe and you have to do a manual wipe, which of course means you have switched off auto and then have to switch back to auto to see if it has reset itself, which it usually has. But it happens enough to be annoying! And the panoramic glass roof lets through too much radiant heat in Summer - the flimsy 'blind' is inadequate to block that so you feel the searing heat on your head even with the blind closed. It needs a more substantial block out blind. The surround camera technology is awesome - I do a lot of parking in tight places and they are invaluable. I don't think your SEL has them, does it? By the way, you mentioned brake dust when talking about cleaning the wheels, but with i-pedal or adaptive cruise control operating the brakes get very little usage. In fact after 10 months of City driving I've never seen brake dust on any of my wheels - and I only wash the car once a month!
Correct, SEL doesn’t have the camera system. Good to know about the radiant heat through the sunshade. As a fellow bald man, the last thing I really want is a burnt scalp haha. Granted the sun is probably much stronger in your area of the planet vs mine. Compared to my previous gas car, the brake dust is significantly limited but it is still there. I do occasionally drive in level 0 regen and when you brake in that settings, it uses the brakes to slow down to clean the rotors of whatever rust has accumulated on them
i purchased an SE back in August (a couple of days before the IRA was signed, so yay for the tax credit!). one thing i'd love in my SE is the sliding center console. as a big guy, my right leg is consistently resting against the corner of the console with the drivers-side cup holder. i'd love to be able to slide that back a bit for comfort, but also to recover that extra cup holder space 🙂 the only other thing on my wish list would be the ventilated seats. everything else i can live without.
Really solid points. After watching the video and reading many of the comments below, I think my next Ioniq 5 (I currently have an SE that is being converted from black to white as I write this) will be an SEL. And I won't settle for a color that absorbs heat.
Just one question by an IONIQ 5 owner in Germany (full facilities ;-) : What do you mean with “limited trim” ? A “limited trim” is less limited than what? I just don’t get the sense of that.. You don’t have flexible configurators for cars in the US ? (To configure the original German cars like Mercedes or BMW you need some days and most times have a number of questions before you finish. So I was glad I could configure the IONIQ 5 AWD 77 kW in some minutes with just 6 times or so selecting “check” and I got everything Hyundai offers, including trailer hitch. (ok, not really everything, I haven’t got the digital mirrors because I ordered too early, and I have the glass roof instead of the “old” (experimental) Photovoltaic roof, but I think, this is by far better).
So I just want to stress that anything you mention, including the entrance (ambiente) light, panoramic roof (but without opening possibility; but it´s nice), relax seats, etc., the IONIQ 5, just you didn’t order it (?). I agree, 20” wheels and the relax seats are not necessary, neither is the AWD. All is just for fun. The packaging here is like “If you spend $19000 more, you get quite everything we offer, if not, you can’t get a lot of features (separately”). But every car manufacturer sets it like this, if you want some popular features, you are obliged to choose them in packages with some expensive less popular ones. Hyundai is not special for this, in fact the “luxury package” (Techniq+Uniq) are relatively cheap compared to the mentioned ones.
Interesting commentary! I have an SEL AWD. Honestly there was really nothing on your list that I miss at all and I agree with you on your items that you didn't care about. The one feature of the Limited I wish I had was the overhead camera view. My friend has that on hers and I love it. It's less useful and more just really cool. There are a couple of features that are nice but not really a big deal. Ventilated seats is really the only one I kind of thought I would love.
All of these complaints are about the fluff elements of the car. Ventilated seats, manual passenger seat etc. No complaints about how the car drives, or mileage. I bought one in April and i love it. Great AC, nice, but not great sound system( I don't believe cars need to be concert halls) . Seats are made of durable recycled materials that are cool even during summer heat. Awesome ride, and responsive steering. And best of all this car gets about 300 miles to the charge if you use AC, 330 without.
OK, now I'm just a bit confused. I should start by saying I live in Iceland and we only have three types on offer, confusingly called by different names than anywhere else, it seems. They are: "Comfort", "Style" and "Premium". The Premium looks to me to be what you are describing as Limited trim (US). My wife and I opted for the middle trim (Style), AWD, which I took to be what is called SEL - or am I confusing things here? If I take your points in order, the breakdown seems to be a bit of both Limited and SEL. Here we go: 1: HUD - yes, I have the augmented reality HUD 2: Ventilated seats - No they only come in the Premium model. 3: Auto-wipers - Yes mine has those (btw my last car was a Mazda 3 and I agree the wiper-auto was good even there.) 4: Sound system in my car: Bose 7 + subwoofer 5: Passenger seat power-assisted - Yes mine has that 6: V2L plug under the rear seats - Yes 7: I agree totally about the little external lights/lack of same. My brother-in-law's EV6 has those 'puddle' lights and I wish I had them as well. Not least because of how much darkness we have in winter in Iceland! 8: Moon roof: No, but I did sit in a "Premium" trim just the day before yesterday at the dealership and I have to say I wish mine had that (see my previous point about darkness in Iceland, haha). 9: Sliding centre console - Yes, mine has that and I do like it, it makes the front feel very spacious and we have the light interior so it is very airy and also because we do have very tight parking here (see further down regarding self-parking) 10: Totally agree with gimmickry for gimmicks' sake - phoneless key is not for me. Don't feel I want to trust my phone with that both for the reasons you mention and also in case my phone gets lost or stolen. Pain in the ...neck. 11: Relaxation seat - No and I don't miss it either. I charge mostly at home so no point for me. 12: Silver trim - Yes, mine has it. I tend to agree with you - it will show wear and tear more than the black trim, but conversely, my car is Mystic Olive (now discontinued I believe) and black trim would not look good with that colour. 13: 19" wheels Yes. I specifically asked for 19-inchers when I ordered the car, for various reasons. In addition, I ordered different tyres (Michelin Cross Climate2) - because of the challenging conditions where I live. 14: Rear sunshades. No I agree with you; not much use for that here. 15: Self-parking - No and I tend to agree with you, but on the other hand it might be handy as parking spaces here are very tight and the I5 is a wide car, so it might be a bit more useful here.
This is my big gripe as a potential buyer of Ioniq 5 in the future: it feels like Limited is a MUST, not just something I'd like. I do agree the aesthetic changes for Limited aren't a big deal, though. Also agree features like sliding console and auto-parking are usually going to be useless, but I'd want it for those rare times people park like assholes and you can only get in your passenger side (or can't at all). It doesn't happen often but I know I've had to crawl into my car from passenger side before and I would've LOVED a sliding center console in those situations. The reclining seat and rear shades are also things I'd love to have for those rare moments you need/want them. I saw a cool video from a British guy where he used the sliding console to crawl over to his passenger side to pay tolls in Europe when he was having to drive on the other side of the road, so I guess that's a use case for it. Haha.
I agree with almost everything you said. I specifically got the SEL because I don't like a glass roof, it allows in too much heat in the Texas sun. Might have liked rain sensing wipers if they worked right, but they never did in my Mercedes and I wouldn't expect them to here. Plus I'd forget and that would start when I went into a car wash. Movable console Meh! HUD Meh! What I would really like is memory seats and power passenger seat.
Agree with you about the sunroof/moonroof, I'm not a "need to see the eky when I drive' guy either, and I'd rather have the extra headroom instead of the transparent panel + sliding shade. Agree with you on the 20" wheels. They look cool, but compromises the ride quality and NVH. Disagree with you about the parking assist. That's something I would use every day, because the way my garage is organized and where the charger is expecting to plug into the car. I would need to have the car nose into the garage, but would not have enough space to exit through the driver door. I suppose in the case of the Ioniq 5, I could just nose in and then exit through the passenger door since there is that flat floor, but in that case I think I'd like the sliding console in order to have easy passage to the passenger seat.
I have had my ultimate (uk) for about 8 months and agree with most of what you say. The hud is so good, I don’t think I’ll ever buy another car without it. Also at the office there is one parking space surrounded by railings, too small for most. I love remote parking into that spot, especially when the rest of the car park is full. I’m not sure if your SEL gets lane assist and auto braking, but this is the other feature that I would not be without.
good thing is i waited for my ultimate trim and couldn't be more happy minus some ergonomics issues which needs to be handled in future models and the biggest one is 360 camera calibration wrt actual positions of the tires and second being very bad sound system despite being bose sound system
I have an Ioniq5 AWD Uniq plus the relaxation seats so it is mostly all in (no solar roof as in the project 45). My previous one was a BMW 530D F10 also with a very complete configuration which costs roughly +55% so I did not expect the same. Now to a few of your points and some things I miss from my previous car at the end. HUD: Must have for me in the main car but mostly to see my speed and not have to look down. Navigation on it is good but in most cases I use google maps and not the built in navigation so no arrows. Better in the Ioniq than in the BMW. Relaxation seats: I really like them for reading, mostly while waiting for my kids (80%), sometimes while charging(10%) Sliding console: I use the setting in the back, no need to slide for me as you also mentioned. Phone as key: Would be nice (not possible in germany with ioniq5) but only if it really works like in a Tesla, not the version from Hyundai I saw in videos. Rear sunshades: I have 2 Kids, they need it to see the tablets and btw. love the heated backseats ;) Ventilated Seats: In the BMW it was mostly coming out on the sides because your body blocks it, in the Ioniq even the lowest setting is too much for me. Was in both cases in the package, would not have paid extra. Rain sensors: They work good, I like that you can change the sensitivity, this was one of the problems I had with Tesla Driving the car with the key from the outside: Tried it once where I was alone, don't plan to do it with spectators. But you are right, the typical parking space in USA is huge compared to germany. Sound system: The big one is mainly OK but no comparison to the BMW. Additonally: Colour: I really like the gravity gold BUT it took 1 week to get a big scratch on the side from the key of some idi.. . No spot repair possible. Now to some things I miss from my BMW: Freely configurable buttons: I would like one button to call persons directly, another to switch to my favorite radio station, navigate home etc. Combine a key to a person: At the BMW I used my key and the seat will be in my setting. In the Ioniq it will be the last setting and I have to switch manually the user wich is only possible while already sitting. And finally somthing which annoys many persons: Less beeps (opening the trunk, driving backwards, start to drive, etc.) :)
We leased a Tesla Model 3 Performance two years ago. We were hoping to buy out our lease but Tesla doesn’t allow buy outs. Dropped by Hyundai and Kia to checkout the I5 and Ev6. The dealer mark ups will unfortunately drive us away from these fine EV’s.
100% agree with your regrets. I have the same model/color as you and love it, but those few things you mentioned in the first half are the exact same things I with I had the chance to add to my SEL.
Hey, yeah I actually use the remote control feature on a daily, given my garage is a manual open/close and it’s just easier for me to remote forward the car out the garage and I can shut the door behind it. Rather than getting in and out of the car.
Last weekend I took my I5 Lmtd AWD to and "RIDE & DRIVE" event and got witness some reactions to the Vehicle. The HUD was a hit, but the HUD with NAV ENGAGED really impressed the crowd and really cranked up the "OOOOS & AWESSSSS". So, my suggestion is to skip Apple Car Play and just TRY the Hyundai Heads Up Display with Hyundai Nav and see if you don't agree with me. (It's a little hard to see wearing sunglasses so school yourself on how to adjust the display before testing it.) Birds eye view Camera View? We have an ID4 in the garage without that feature and I miss that feature EVERY time I drive it. However, I LOVE the ID4 for the Puddle Lights and lighted door handle feature. Soooooooo Cool and useful at night. The Ioniq Guy was spot on there.
I've had HUD in my current car for over 5 years and I can take it or leave it. Makes no difference to me. I completely agree about the sunroof. I don't think I've ever opened my sunroof in the 5+ years I've owned it and I too always keep the sun shade closed. I have an order on EV6 top trim and it includes a sunroof of course but I would prefer I could delete it especially if it cost less because of it.
The internal VTL is sort of useless. I think it can only be activated in utility mode. I have not been able to use it while driving to charge my laptop, or even use my laptop or a small vacuum while charging.
I have the SE model. Only thing I wish I had is a power lift gate for the back. I'm glad that I don't have higher models with leather seats, never liked them cloth is fine. The sun roof, I've never in my life ever wanted a car with a sun roof. Finally, the under cargo area in the truck with the lack of a subwoofer is nice, it's completely open and I would hate to have a pointless subwoofer taking up that space.
Parking spots are big - on the east coast, in Texas… but OMG in California the parking spaces are so narrow. I find it very hard to park in parking lots everywhere around San Francisco. Tiny spaces. Huge cars. 😢
Agree with most of your points! Another part about the glass roof is the potential of it breaking and the cost and time of a repair like that. Most of the time the driver cant see trough it either. Its mostly for the rear occupants
Sorry about your regret. I believe I made a right choice getting my Limited. It was very rare to get and glad I waited even thought I did pay a premium over MSRP.
I've got the 2019 IONIQ electric+ (plug-in hybrid) in the Ultimate trim, and it has no ventilated seats. They're on my wife's Santa Fe XL Ultimate and the top trim IONIQs in the UK, but in Canada it seems we got Penultimate trim misnamed as Ultimate. I really miss them!
For my Limited, I pretty much ONLY wanted 360 cam. It was on my 8 yr old Nissan Rogue which cost half the $$ of SEL trim. If SEL had the cam, I would have taken it. Glass roof, I WISH it was an option so that I could NOT have gotten it. Like you, I NEVER even use moon roof. Now, good thing about Limited other than the 360 cam is the HUD (which I can't imagine living without it using HDA as I would constantly have to look down to see if LKA is active, etc.), ventilated memory seats and power passenger seat (until now, I never had this, but my wife does appreciate it). That said, I would have happily saved $5k if SEL trim had 360 degree cam though - I think most cameras it have already anyways for HDA2 so not including it is IMHO a dick move. So, useless (to me at least) in Limited - sliding center console, glass roof, LED interior mood lighting (don't know if SEL has this), relaxation seat. What Limited SHOULD have - power rear seat (P45 version has it), real leather seating (Korean/EU versions have this), solar panel roof - if glass roof is wanted, might as well make it solar panel version (some EU version has this). I have driven in South Korea so yes, parking is REAL tight, I would have appreciated just be able to control the car forward/backward using the fob. I can see SOME people appreciating parking assist as some people can NOT back into park and I FEEL it is much safer as I have avoided couple of accidents by backing in. Also, for people who live in the city and needs to do parallel parking, they would appreciate the help I guess BUT I find it SO SLOW to become almost useless.
They REALLY should have offered some option packages! For example, for me, I would like to have the longest range with Bose sound system. But the Bose sound system is only available on the top trim but this trim doesn't have the longest range because of all-wheel-drive
I have an SE and I’m mad with Hyundai for not having an auto lift gate. I think car manufacturers should add everyday useful feature in the basic trim. I’d rather give up motorized driver seats for automatic lift gate. If you ask me, I use the trunk 100x vs the motorized seats. VERY DISAPPOINTED
So Corbib, question. Knowing what you know now, would you go for a limited I5, a Genesis GV60 Advance ( Performance is too pricey) or still go with the trim you have.
Hmmmm I would probably go for a GV60 Advanced. For not much more you get a much more equipped vehicle. In general I prefer the look of the Ioniq 5, but I would really like to have the nicer sound system and physical buttons for things like heated/ventilated seats that the GV60 has.
@@TheIoniqGuy yeah. I love the exterior look of the HI5 and mostly everything internally too, including the space and storage, yet the GV60 with its luxury interior and dedicated servicing is second to none. It's just a bit more expensive and that front look with that big grill bothers me. Now if the blue interior of the performance trim was available on the Advance, I would get it, but can't justify the price for a seat color, massage function.
The contest has ended and winners have been selected! Thanks for watching and entering
I had completely forgotten about that as I’m the sole driver of my car. Definitely a must have for multiple drivers
In Norway parking is tight. People park too close all the time. With kids, having the car drive out by it self to make space, is just incredibly good
I’ve used the fob parking feature several times.
The kids love to sit inside while I'm remote controlling it
SE trim is still an amazing car. Zero regrets. SE trim lovers ❤
@@nerf_dagerf6073 below MSRP is a huge win, regardless of the trim. So congrats!!
We have the SE AWD trim and have no regrets.
My wife and I would have bought the Limited, but the dealership only had one SEL and we drove home in it. I agree with your view pretty much entirely.
Ventilated seats is a must for an EV car combined with heated options your good to go.
Love my classic Ionic 28kwh Premium version.
Yes, you can easily give the back seat Windows and back Windows privacy glass tinted.
I have the SE and love it. I don't regret not having what I never had before.
April, and decided to 'do the wait...'
It's now October.
* It's not an order. It's a "I wish you had... plz let me know if you happen to have one fall off a truck in your lot." I hate the dealership "We sell what we got.. not what you want" model.
The SE does have heated seats and side mirrors.
I can’t wait to experience it in person!
The parking assist actually works really well for me and my tiny garage in the USA. Ev6 wind. I use it all the time so I don't have to squeeze my way out of my garage
I never considered that it could be really useful for that. Glad you’re getting use out of it!
Im a wheelchair user, in times that WC spots aren't available the self parking is great!
Thanks for being true and transparent. Very informative. It helped me decide on the trim I would get.
Couldn't agree more about the passenger seat adjustments. I was majorly disappointed when I realized that.
Couldn’t agree with you more about sun roofs. They’re nice, but I never miss them if they’re not in my car.
The reason they don't offer a Tech package for $3,000 is because they can get $6,000 for the Limited! :)
Lol truth
The parking feature can also be used if you park in a narrow 1 gar garage. This way the door doesn’t get dinged
Good point! I know someone with a garage like that that would probably find the future useful
On the wheels - I have driven both. 20” provides for more stability and this is particularly clear when loading the car heavily. 19” provides better mileage.
I have an SEL and couldn't be happier. Limited trim has nice features but not enough to elicit actual regret of buying the SEL.
I’m having a hard time choosing between Tesla model 3, Ioniq 5, bmw is, or Kia ev6
Great video. I'm with you. I don't understand why these companies don't have an option package. It's frustrating.
I do occasionally drive in level 0 regen and when you brake in that settings, it uses the brakes to slow down to clean the rotors of whatever rust has accumulated on them
i purchased an SE back in August (a couple of days before the IRA was signed, so yay for the tax credit!). one thing i'd love in my SE is the sliding center console. as a big guy, my right leg is consistently resting against the corner of the console with the drivers-side cup holder. i'd love to be able to slide that back a bit for comfort, but also to recover that extra cup holder space 🙂
the only other thing on my wish list would be the ventilated seats. everything else i can live without.
Here we go:
1: HUD - yes, I have the augmented reality HUD
2: Ventilated seats - No they only come in the Premium model.
3: Auto-wipers - Yes mine has those (btw my last car was a Mazda 3 and I agree the wiper-auto was good even there.)
4: Sound system in my car: Bose 7 + subwoofer
5: Passenger seat power-assisted - Yes mine has that
6: V2L plug under the rear seats - Yes
7: I agree totally about the little external lights/lack of same.
9: Sliding centre console - Yes, mine has that and I do like it, it makes the front feel very spacious and we have the light interior so it is very airy and also because we do have very tight parking here (see further down regarding self-parking)
10: Totally agree with gimmickry for gimmicks' sake - phoneless key is not for me.
You're correct. My SEL is the middle trim as yours is but it sounds like yours has many more features than ours does.
I’m not sure if your SEL gets lane assist and auto braking, but this is the other feature that I would not be without.
great video! i actually like the manual seat movement over the electronic, it adjusts way faster. can't wait for the next video
good thing is i waited for my ultimate trim and couldn't be more happy minus some ergonomics issues which needs to be handled in future models and the biggest one is 360 camera calibration wrt actual positions of the tires and second being very bad sound system despite being bose sound system
Relaxation seats: I really like them for reading, mostly while waiting for my kids (80%), sometimes while charging(10%)
Sliding console: I use the setting in the back, no need to slide for me as you also mentioned.
Phone as key: Would be nice (not possible in germany with ioniq5) but only if it really works like in a Tesla, not the version from Hyundai I saw in videos.
Rear sunshades: I have 2 Kids, they need it to see the tablets and btw. love the heated backseats ;)
Ventilated Seats: In the BMW it was mostly coming out on the sides because your body blocks it, in the Ioniq even the lowest setting is too much for me. Was in both cases in the package, would not have paid extra.
Rain sensors: They work good, I like that you can change the sensitivity, this was one of the problems I had with Tesla
Driving the car with the key from the outside: Tried it once where I was alone, don't plan to do it with spectators. But you are right, the typical parking space in USA is huge compared to germany.
Sound system: The big one is mainly OK but no comparison to the BMW.
Additonally:
Colour: I really like the gravity gold BUT it took 1 week to get a big scratch on the side from the key of some idi.. . No spot repair possible.
Now to some things I miss from my BMW:
Freely configurable buttons: I would like one button to call persons directly, another to switch to my favorite radio station, navigate home etc.
That makes sense
That makes sense
Last weekend I took my I5 Lmtd AWD to and "RIDE & DRIVE" event and got witness some reactions to the Vehicle. The HUD was a hit, but the HUD with NAV ENGAGED really impressed the crowd and really cranked up the "OOOOS & AWESSSSS". So, my suggestion is to skip Apple Car Play and just TRY the Hyundai Heads Up Display with Hyundai Nav and see if you don't agree with me. (It's a little hard to see wearing sunglasses so school yourself on how to adjust the display before testing it.)
Birds eye view Camera View? We have an ID4 in the garage without that feature and I miss that feature EVERY time I drive it. However, I LOVE the ID4 for the Puddle Lights and lighted door handle feature. Soooooooo Cool and useful at night. The Ioniq Guy was spot on there.
Yeah when I was about to pull the trigger on an Ioniq 5 or ID.4 and I tested the ID.4 at night, I thought the lighting was so nice and welcoming
👍👍👍 from an Ioniq-18 owner in sweden
Huge cars. 😢
Hi from Sweden. I ordered a 2022 back at 2021, max trim to be delivered 2022. Hyundai cancelled all orders so now im hoping for 2023 summer max trim.
I had a Kia Soul and I miss the rear windshield wiper, the rain sensing wipers, and the sound system
How many miles you have on your car and odd it burning oil?
Good run down of features and reasons to want/not want features.
VERY DISAPPOINTED
my 12 ford focus and it has rain sensing wipers and a rear wiper
Nice video! I just got a Limited. Love all the extra stuff. But! I had to get a gray one. Yours looks much better.
We have the sel, and almost bought the EV6 for technology package, I agree with you there.
You can get an app on your phone for a basic hud.
Thank you. I won’t look at this one. I’ll wait for nexts years.
