XE4 any day: smaller, cheaper, screen flips more than x100V, ICL, latest software and in camera processing, etc etc ... could do with 1 or 2 more buttons, sure, but I don't miss em. I can focus more on the scene. It's more flexible than x100V, more tunable than xpro2, better screen than xpro3 + smaller and cheaper than either... Nough said!

  • @NeilBolton

I have the X-T5 as recently added an X-E1 for the kids to use - I enjoyed its 'analogue' feel so much I got sucked into buying the X-Pro 2 - and wow, I'm so glad I did.
I am picking the X-Pro 2 up more than the X-T5, as it's perfect for the everyday social environment. Teamed with a wide prime, it's great on a day out. Often I team it with the 23mm f2 you had, or even better, my pancake Fuji 27mm WR, and it's super inconspicuous.
I've even occasionally used my Helios 44-2, and it takes such warm photos. I agree; the X-Pro 2 is an absolute blinder of a camera-I think I'd let my X-T5 go before the X-Pro 2.

  • @siwynjones
    @siwynjones Год назад +7

I wholeheartedly agree. It’s all subjective, but an X-Pro2 with a Fujicron/27mm pancake is such a great combo for throwing in the bag when you’re out doing non-photography things, and want to keep something with you, just in case. It’s just that bit more compact and lightweight than a Leica M, but still feels solid, substantial and well balanced. In comparison, the X-Pro3 is handy for waist-level shooting and is marginally snappier, but it can sometimes be infuriating to use and the OVF magnification is a definite downgrade. X-Pro1 gives superb results, but it felt a little ponderous in 2012, and hasn’t improved (autofocus, buffering and navigating are glacial compared the X-Pro3). X-Pro2 is just Goldilocks.

X-Pro1 for me… punches way above its weight. I don’t use film sims, and use it very much like my Leica M9 and treat them like film cameras with added digital convenience. I pretty much use the 18mm f2 all the time with it, but adapting my Leica glass works really well with that older sensor. My X-Pro1 is getting fairly battered now, so an upgrade is on the cards, and the X-Pro2 is the way to go for the reasons you mentioned regarding the viewfinder.

My entry to the Fujifilm system was when I got a good deal on a secondhand X100F just after it was released (some people just have far too much money). I currently own 4 Fujifilm cameras and too many lenses. Even after buying or borrowing and reselling most of the older fujifilm cameras the one I will run out of the door in a fire with is the X100V. I have owned it from the day it was released and for me the camera is perfect. Overhyped for sure because it is not a camera for everyone but it is the one I choose.

I bought the Pro 1, when the Pro 2 was issued. It was a grey market camera, new for $500. I bought it to see if Fuji was as good as people said. I used it for a short time and then bought the Pro 2. I also own the XT20 and while they each have the same sensor and processor the Pro seems to operate faster. Now I am a senior having photographed for more than 60 years. I was having trouble with eye strain using a EVF so felt the view finder on the Pro would work for me and it did. I now have had surgery for cataracts and now have 20/20 vision I still think the Pro 2 is the best camera I have ever owned.

I moved from being a lifetime Pentax user to the X-S10/16-80mm to start, and have to say the X-S20 is looking like an amazing camera for the money. Still no weather sealing on the X-S line which the X-Pro has ... I stil do prefer the dynamic range and results I got with the Pentax K3/K5iis/Ks2/K30/K-etc etc, but here in Canada Pentax had poor customer service when I needed them, so FujiFilm was the logical closest choice. I also have an like new X100s with the 28mm attachment and a nice leather case from ebay which is a fun camera to shoot with which I acquired for 640 euro. Guess I am a FujiFilm user now, maybe look into an X-Pro2 :)

the biggest problem I have with the X-Pro 2 is the price. I mean sure, the hybrid viewfinder is a very neat feature, but you can't use all lenses with it, it's a bit less accurate than the EVF, and on top of that it's not really usable if you want to use some lenses, either super wide or super long, you will have to switch to the EVF at some point.
And then enters the X-T2. Dual tilt screen, more acessible controls, still vintage looking, dual UHS-II cards (instead of 1 UHS-II and one UHS-I), 4K video (that the Pro 2 lacks), vertical grip option, access to F-Log in video, overall better button layout (easier to back button focus on it)...
... and it's MUCH cheaper. I'd love to have the X-Pro 2, but I can't justify spending 800€ on one when you can get an X-T2 for 400. It really feels like you pay a LOT (twice!) for that hybrid viewfinder considering the things you loose on the side as well.
Cool concept, but man the price makes it not that great of a value to me. (I'd definitely love to have one though. But hey, I'd love to have a Leica M10 monochrom as well)

I could not agree more. The X-Pro 2 is a fantastic camera, especially paired with any of the "Fujicron" 2.0 lenses. I looked at the X-Pro 3 and ruled it out due to elimination the dual range magnification of the viewfinder the X-Pro2 had when used in the optical viewfinder mode. And while the concept of hiding the main LCD screen (to discourage chimping) is a good one, the execution of that concept absolutely sucks. I also liked that my X-Pro 2 has the same button layout as my X100f, the reason being that my muscle memory makes both cameras operate in the same efficient manor. The concept of useful muscle memory seems to elude the Fuji designers who are constantly changing button locations with each newer model.

    1 gen: X-E1
    2 gen: X-E2
    3 gen: X-T20

The best camera for 2023 is any nicely depreciated model from the last 5 to 10 years.
It’s all about the glass, and the light and the interpretation. Sensor technology from a decade ago is fine.

Bought an X-Pro2 to replace it but the Pro never quite hit the same mark. It was a little too big and the hybrid viewfinder was more of an annoyance than a benefit. I also shoot mostly vintage glass and I found the X-E1's peaking more useful (not a common opinion from what I see in forums and comments). Traded the Pro2 for an X-H1 which I didn't really jive with either. I traded back to the X-Pro2, loved it for a while, then went back to the X-E1. I am going to say the Fujifilm GFX-100II, for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the least important thing is I like the look of the camera, I think the two tone colour looks good, the grip material looks nice and I like a more traditional SLR style body.
Ergonomically, the camera is really nice. It feels good in the hand, I like that it doesn't have a flip screen (which I hate on the X-H2). I am not that bothered by having dials (the only reason my old X-H1 isn't my favourite Fujifilm camera).
AF works really well, the sensor is really good, it has good stabilisation. Basically, there is nothing bad I can say about the GFX100 II. Which is why I think it is Fujifilm's best camera.

Can't disagree with your choice. Went to a launch event hosted by Ffordes at a local distillery and got to play with it and the 35mm f2. Love at first sight, and I've still got it now. The scariest thing is that it's been out SIX YEARS! Seems like yesterday.
Having said that, if I really want to go ultralight and compact, I still reach for my X-E2 and the XC15-45.

The captures you make are awesome as always. Those colors (colours) of xpro2 with your presets are perfect.
I could say you passed GAS XD I was already looking up that camera, and after your overview, it clicks alot with me. XPro3 looks great, but the bulk and not having as great viewfinder never got my attention. The older and yet more versatile xpro2 checks plenty of boxes for me.
If Fuji doesn't announce a new pocketable (ricoh gr style) camera, or serious upgrade to X100 line next year, I might look into getting the xpro2 as well.
For now, X100V is my go to favorite camera. Based on experience you had with your girlfriend, I'll keep my X100V hidden from my wife XD

I agree wholeheartedly. The x-pro2 is the perfect camera - for me at least. It does everything I want a camera to do in a way that I want it to do it. It feels incredible in hand and produces images exactly how I want them; especially when combined with the outstanding "Fujicron" f2 lenses. What more could I ask for. I hope Fuji have the good sense to bring out an x-pro4 to keep the line evolving but, to be honest, I can't ever imagine giving up the x-pro2.

I had the x-pro 3 for awhile, but I sold it bc of the hybrid viewfinder. I use Leica m-mount lens on my cameras, and the hybrid manual focus is very bad. A small portion of the lcd pops up on the right bottom in the ovf, and is impossible to focus using it. If you use the ever, the color is incorrect and is not bright making it hard to see. I think the body should be smaller for what it is. I also had the x-pro 2, but did not use it much for the same problems (hybrid viewfinder). I rather just use the x-e4, but it’s so hard to get with price that does not make any sense. I’m happy with my Sony a7c with m-mount lenses.

I also have the X-Pro1 with just one lens (18-55).
I definitely compose better with two eyes on the groundglass (or rear screen) than using reflex, EVFs og rangefinder style viewfinders.

The X100F I once owned made me go out and take photos more than my Nikon Z6ii I currently own. Strange given the restrictions of a fixed lens camera and smaller sensor. It's not the size difference of the camera body or the weight. Size and weight doesn't bother me. Something else. Aesthetics I think. After selling the X100F I regretted it and was tempted to buy the X100V but for the lack of IBIS which I really like now, and the flip down only screen. Thought I might wait for the X100vi or whatever they will cal it. But I LOVE the form factor of the XPro series and I think that alone would get me out shooting. Silly when you think about it logically but when was the spirit that moves us ever subject to human logic? If it was we'd all be very boring.

I’m travelling to Iceland and such feature could be really needed.

I’m not thinking about any X-T or X-H models as, first I want to keep it very portable and second, I barely do video.

I moved from an X-Pro2 to an X-Pro3. I actually love the design of the X-Pro3 backscreen. No other camera is as fast to get a waist level finder and then hide the damn thing. I *hate* with other cameras (including X-Pro2) how the screen is in my face, and to turn it off I have to clunkily cycle the view mode (there's no simple toggle). Therefore I'm just way faster with the X-Pro3.
That said, I actually think the X-Pro2 has slightly better image quality. Color noise on the 3 is worse than the 2, and the noise pattern of the 2 is just more beautiful in general. As for the OVF I'm of two minds. Provided you're not using anything wider than 23mm, I find the massively much larger OVF of the X-Pro3 to be better (esp. with me wearing glasses), but not being able to see the framelines of the XF18mm is a bit frustrating.
My perfect camera would be a combination of the X-Pro2 and X-Pro3. They're both great cameras!
