- Hi guys,
In this video I will be discussing how dentists get paid in the UK. This one is a very frequently asked question but for some reason no one knows the answer. It is not my intention to spread misinformation so everything I have spoken about in this video is from official documents!
DFT salary: 1:31
DCT salary: 3:27
Associate salary (UDA’s and targets): 5:42

theDentlyf isn’t there a new dentist reform?
This was soooo useful! Thank you🥳
Glad it helped you!
Hi i just discovered your channel and love the vids. What is the piece of tech you use to write on and get the text up on the screen, from your other videos it looks like a screenless smart pad sorta thing.
thank you! I use a gaomon drawing pad and screen record at the same time!
This was so helpful! Thank you!
You are very welcome!
Thank you for the information really appreciate it!
I am not sure if I understood completely, but if a patient comes with an urgent need of extraction that count as 1.2 UDA, but if the extraction was planed it counts as 3. What is the logic behind that? Shouldn't an urgent extraction count as more?
Another thing I find complete madness is counting root canal treatment the same level of complexity as a filling; however does the dentist gets separate UDA for the root canal treatment and the filling, obviously the tooth will need a filling after the root canal treatment so is that 3+3? The way this is designed sounds really discouraging to do root canal treatments.
Hi Dr Komal, thank you for this insight! Do you know of any way of converting UDAs to an hourly rate
Do you have to do dct training straight after foundation years? Or can practice as a dentist and then decide to do it?
Very helpful video Komal :)
Thank you 😊
Hello ! I hope you are doing okay ! I want to ask you a couple of questions about how much money have you discounted for the student loan cause i dont have them . And do you thing a single person can actually live with just the UDA salery as a begining !
Your last videos have answered all the questions I use to google before I got into dental school.... so thanks again😬 I can’t believe the £1000 deduction though 😂
Thanks so much for the feedback! I know it's painful haha :((((
Very useful video
Thanks a lot
As a dutch dentist this all sounds ridiculously low, why would you do band2 treatments at these rates??
What about the moneg coming from the patients themselves for band 1 2 3, where does that go? To the owners pocket?
That money is actually tax collection, NHS subtracts the money that patients pay at the practice before paying the practice. So effectively, money paid by patients does not go to the practice but to the NHS.
Hi there!this is super informative, thanks.my question is how much does an associate dentist earn in your example at the end of the year as you didn’t mention the breakdown of lab fees etc and what it amounts to.So what seems like£70000 is actually how much in effect?many thanks!
Hi! I didn't break down the lab fees etc because it varies depending on the dentist/practice/lab.
can i ask you how much a 10 year experienced dentist is paid by uad? thanks
what is the difference between DCT and associate?
If you are a dentist from Europe, can u get into this sistem??
You're really inspiring ❤️, what about a non European dentist's salary after clearing ORE,can you provide detailed information about ORE , thankyou ✨
Thanks so much, I will try but your best bet will be searching online as I have no experience in this!

Good afternoon, could someone help me?
i need a dentist i was recommended to Chesterfield Orthodontic
and they replied that they only accepted patients through the NHS from a referral system called Rego by a general dentist. Because they cannot accept references from the patients themselves
Since I never had a dentist in the UK how do I order one?
There are no vacancies and the only hospital that has it
grateful for your help
Register at a dentist first, and then the dentist will check whether you need braces or not and if it can be covered under the NHS, and then if you are eligible for NHS treatment for braces you will get referred on a orthodontist. That's it, the waiting list is long though.
I am currently studying dentistry abroad but I am planning to come back to Uk for foundation year so I would like to know is process will be different for international students??
Check out my recent video where I touch on this subject, if you have any more questions do get in touch again!
Is working privately in the 6th year?
Hi do you know whether it is better to work for the NHS or in a private practice
I think they both have their pros and cons!
Can you opt to do more hours for more money in DFT?
As per the DFT contract, you aren't allowed to unfortunately!
Can a foreign trained dentist go for dental foundation course while preparing for gdc?
Yes of course
very useful
but in dft after taxes the sallary will be about 1950£ per month right? and its about 23.400 per year not 20.400 am i right ?
She calculated it with the pension deducted
did you include student loan deductions/pension/national insurance?
Omg even in develop countries they consider patient as target, this is ridiculous, putting pressure on doctors and giving them penny salary
can u pls tell me how much hygienist is paid in uk?/

@@ashishpathak3034 Stay in india. U wont get a job here. Forget it

It is because free healthcare and education costs low compared to usa
Is dental hygienist a good carrier
YES!
Hello madam..I'm a student of undergraduate dentistry and I'm from India an aspirant to work in Britain in future..and I wanna know the salary of a postgraduate/ specialized dentist's salary per month..
Hi it would vary depending on location/speciality/hours etc so I would recommend you look online!
@@drkomalchopra Thank you for the information madam..but I couldn't find satisfactory answers online...what if I'm specialized in Orthodontics and work full hour whole week in any institution of dentistry of Britain...then what would be my salary madam?..
@@DrAkshataK Just stay in india. Even if u pass the ORE exams, no private clinic will want to employ you. So just forget it and stay in india
@@ruijackson7697 And why would they not want to employ her?
Thanks but i think the expressions and everything were a bit too professional and not really simple for a student to understand it might be beneficial for a uni student who is already studying dentistry
Sure I get that it is quite confusing, feel free to ask if you didn't understand something!
Madam how much do you earn now ? Nice video.
I earn the DFT salary!
Thanks a lot..do you know how much dentists in private clinics can earn? I heard this is about 140k..
I have no idea, I think it varies on a lot of different factors!
How much do orthodontists earn?
It really varies, a lot of factors play a part
Orthodontists earn 200-250k pound sterlings a year in uk.
so hypothetically your dentist could be giving you unnecessary treatments to meet their uda?
Hypothetically maybe, but you are assigned a target that is suitable for you/your practice
I have yet to meet a dentist who isn't wealthy. I still don't understand the UDA system. It makes me wonder if this is the best way of paying dentists. Actually, wouldn't it be better if dentists were treated in the same way as doctors?
So you are saying uk dentists are wealthy ??
@@saibakhan3553 so it would seem.
“ Actually, wouldn't it be better if dentists were treated in the same way as doctors?”
You mean paid insultingly low wages that barely allow them to cover their heating bills?
Frankly Dentist and lawyers make far far more than what they are worth.......
FAR TOO MUCH OVERPAID (GREED IS A CURSE!!)
overpaid? Try actually doing a 5 year degree and training in healthcare. You remind me of someone who said doctors are overpaid. Also, dentistry is one of the most stressful careers, just research about it.
P.S. It’s all about supply and demand in economics. A profession with more demand will pay more than a profession with less demand. That’s just how it is.
@@idrk1507 I have done 7 years av got a bachelor degree in science and chemistry biology so go bk to school and shut ur Burger King hole!!!!

hmmm are you sure about that? ''Bachelor degree in science and chemistry and biology'' That doesn't exist.
Plus, the way you write (spelling and grammar mistakes + tone) and your crappy yt videos... nah I'm not buying it, obviously lies that I can see right through.
