  • I've been making videos on RUclips for over 10 years. I've learned a lot about myself and a lot about being an online creator in that time. here are 9 or 10 lessons I've learned in that time.

Your conscience is the best therapist and self-reflection tool you have. Being true to yourself is more valuable than any amount of wealth or success - however way it's defined.

It's hard being a content creator here on RUclips. I've been doing this for over 8 years and I don't know if I'll ever reach 100k subs while I'm alive 😂. Thought about quitting so many times but always find something to keep going lol. Great video BTW

This was a really good one for me. It's so hard to know, this stuff moves so fast. So many hype cycles and bubbles. Tech is indeed a tool and definitely can make our lives better and I think focusing on that is part of your secret sauce. I'll watch videos of yours about products I'm not even interested in just to get a sense of your process etc.

You’re a good man. Go easy on yourself. I recall seeing a photo of you in your early years. You were quite handsome. Re-capture your life’s joy. I suspect it won’t be found in tech.

I appreciate your insights and candor. You’ve been ambivalent about RUclips for awhile now, and with good reasons. Hell, I’m ambivalent about watching RUclips, let alone creating for it. Again, my best to you in all your endeavors!

Amazing video. Very genuine and straight to the point. A great way for people thinking of starting a channel of their own to gauge what they might go through. Sent it on to one of my mates who is starting out!

You are an inspiration Jason! I don't think I would have seriously started my channel if I hadn't been watching you all these years. I had several false starts as I kept chickening out!

Jason you could of been a great teacher of life and tech maybe back in the eighties I’m generation x this is a master piece I wish that there were more people like you out here and I’m happy that you are back but you just have to take it one day at a time and maybe one phone at one time.

I feel you about the addiction and "Once and addict, always an addict"
I feel I also keep jumping from one addiction to another. Salty food, then stop it and start smoking. Then stop it and start playing game. Then stop it and overdo something else.
Another point that I resonated was when RUclips becomes a business. That's when things get ruined. When we do them as a hobby, it's so nice and fulfilling. But then the pressure of making money comes in and little by little start ruining it.

Yeah, it’s a vicious cycle. I don’t mind RUclips being a business, I just think you have to start with that in mind or it will be a difficult transition.

Thank you for sharing your experiences so candidly. I’m going to try starting my own channel, and your insights are valuable. I’m close to your age, a little older actually, and while it might seem crazy to try this at this point in my life, I want to see how it goes. I’ve been putting it off for years and don’t want to regret not giving it a shot later in life.

    • @PAINFULLYHONESTTECH
      @PAINFULLYHONESTTECH  12 дней назад +1

Don’t get hung up on the age thing. It’s hard, sometimes, but one advantage is you have a lot of first hand experience with stuff younger folks only see in old movies. From a tech perspective that can be a super power.

if someone pays u to "review" a product and u give it a negative that company likely won't seek u out again. So unless that creator is dumb they want continued business... that's where bias come in but u can admit it or not

The idea of having a succrssful You Tube channel is appealing until you delve deeper and think about it.
As you say, pressure to keep increasing your audience, pressure to buy tech to review and the cost involved, keeping in touch with whst you think people want you to review, pressure to make videos even when you don't feel like it, for fear of losing subscribers if you don't. It's not like having a monthly pay cheque is it, you have to work to pay the bills. I should think you also have to have the hide of an elephant,as well, to withstand the uncalled for abuse tech You Tubers can get.

It’s a lot, for sure. And it can get overwhelming as well. But I like creating stuff and connecting with people, so I keep coming back.
