My baby Molly started to develop bald spots at about 12 years old. We ruled out stress and boredom and quickly came to the conclusion that she had a food allergy. The combination of a blood test and just trying out different protein sources for a month each, it became clear that she had developed a poultry allergy. Once she got only hydrolyzed hypoallergenic kibble and freshly cooked fish and beef, her fur grew back again and her life quality improved so much. I lost her this January due to pneumonia at 17 years old, but I know I've always done everything I could for her.

So very sorry for your loss. Molly was a very lucky to have you. Taking the time to learn and understand their needs is a hard role but also the most rewarding and heartwarming one too. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and share your experience

well written and well structured, great video!!
i'll admit that im a cat parent who tends to worry too much so i watch cat tips videos pretty regularly...and your videos are definitely the most 'sophisticated' ones in recent memory! Smooth editing, great use of b-roll and talking heads, helpful info, the occasional anecdotes and humorous titbits, all so engaging and informative while staying sincere and earnest.
This is a great show, and i'll stay tuned for sure!

Being worried means you care and that’s what matters. Your cat is incredibly lucky!
Thank you so much for the positive feedback. Reading comments like this makes a big difference to us and really gives us the buzz to keep going. …Especially from someone who knows the buzzwords we use haha! 😛

😭 One of my three indoor cats (Willow, Miyo, and Kiki) has the bald patches on her legs and belly where she over cleans :(
Some months she does it more than others and you can tell when all her fur in thos places gets thinner!
She is the youngest of my three rescues, and i know it's my fault and because of boredom, I watched your other video about toy rotation! I must try to impliment that. I am always making new toys for them out of cardboard boxes, loo roll, the little handles from paper bags, string etc, but it is definitely a never ending job and i don't think it's enough for Willow she just has such energy and is ALWAYS up for play, and definitely has more energy than the other two, but i've never thought about putting toys away and rotating such a simple idea o:
I am currently in the process of buying some new toys and interactive things, especially i struggle to bend down a lot and get down on my knees to play and she happens to enjoy interactive play the most x'D think i need to find some long handle ones so i can stay stood up . But she is a healthy cat in general. It just seems to be boredom related so i have been learning over time how to get better at keeping her stimulated and enriched. I plan to get some cat grass seeds again as they all seemed to love that the last times i grew it for them and i haven't done it in a while. 😅
My oldest cat Miyo. And Kiki the biggest middle child, also show signs of boredom, just not bald patches at least :( but with scratching furniture definitely could be boredom related as you said, and Miyo likes to chew the corner of paper or cardboard in front of me to get my attention though i don't know if that is sometimes a hint for food xD she is also very VERY chatty. She talks a lot, not meowing exactly but like eck ecking but at me or anyone who sneezes, or when opening a can of fizzy, or when she wants the tap turning on.. or if you walk into the bathroom and she is chillin in there she starts eck ecking and going "brrrrrrrr brrrrrrrr" loudly for nuzzles and butt scritches 😅 i always thought she was just a chatty catty but maybe it is also boredom. 🤔 Kiki does randomly meow at random hours of the night too..
But i'm so glad i found your content it has really given me some more ideas and food for thought! I know i've been lacking a bit in their enrichment and stimulation needs and this has given me a bit of a kick there's lots more i can do and try! Thank you!
(Edit: i just read in a comment below about flea dermatitis, and though i'm not 100% sure if Willow has it, so I will be making a vet visit to ask about it, vets have seen her previously and not mentioned that, though Kiki does have flea dermatitis, she gets a lil scabby but no bald patches but yes, worth me asking the question at the vets i think! But i'm still convinced my cats do get bored so it's not going to change my approach!)

Oh no, I’m sorry to hear about Willow’s overgrooming! Cats really are all so different, aren’t they? Our Cookie is much less active than our other two boys-they need a lot of playtime, and if they don’t get it, they start getting into mischief! Miyo sounds like such a character, cheerping at fizzy pop is hilarious hahaha! I’m so glad you found the comment from another subscriber. We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a wonderful community of cat parents here, and it’s great to see everyone sharing their experiences, it really helps raise awareness and help us all be the best cat parents. It’s such a rewarding role, but there’s always so much to understand and learn!
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your experience. Honestly it makes a huge difference. :)

There is a possible conection between flea dermatitis which doesn't mean your cat has fleas its confusing as the term is also related to allergies which cause overgrooming so I agree its important to seek veterinary advice before proceeding with assumptions.

@@Pepperprojectz I have been running a small rescue for over 20 years, and why I like what your content as much as I do your giving people food for thought not "they saying".
Just because your cat talks a lot doesn't necessarily mean they have much to say they might just be complaining like one of your annoying relatives do
Personally #Immacatservant too and cats have learned to "bark" orders at us they really have. I swear its indentured servitude and you fall for it every time they look at you, I think they have us all under mind control, and I'm pretty sure they likely own Amazon and run the box business for their own purposes 👻

I have a 3month old kitten who is really energetic despite having 15min+ playtimes almost 2-3 times a day. Im not sure what else to do at this point he keeps constantly scratching up furniture or trying to eat/lick any food left out…

Very informative video! Straight to the point, well edited and educational. I wish all cat tip videos were like this. I’ll try the solutions one by one and see which one ends up helping.

    • @Pepperprojectz

Awe, that sounds very choatic and I know this is easy to say but harder to manage but... try and enjoy it. As they age that energy level goes away, so it will naturally get easier / more manageable. I'm not sure what your current living sitation is but another kitten COULD be the answer as they'll enterain themselves / have somewhere to focus that energy. Cats are increadibly social so having a friend to grow up with can help ALOT. Although, be aware, it's not twice as much trouble, it's like 10x as much, as they seem to gang up and create more issues haha!
Aside from that, I'd focus on making sure your house is as catty as possible. There's a ton of furniture you can buy and having multiple types of cat trees or places for them to jump around can help a lot. Equally on the toys side, I'd go for as many self play ones as possible (think springs / finger traps etc).
I hope this helps. Shout if you've got any more questions!
Thanks for commenting and watching the video!

@@Pepperprojectz good idea, I’ll definitely buy more self play toys as he seems to use the one I already have quite often. Unfortunately, adopting a second kitten is not possible for my living situation currently. However will try my best to try and find more cat trees, ledges and areas for the kitty to jump and climb on.

Off topic question: Does anyone know the brand of shirt this handsome gentleman is wearing? It looks like Frank from Donnie Darko on it.

Assume you mean the Maine Coon right? He’s got a one of a kind coat but requires lots of maintenance… haha! 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️😅😅 The shirts from AllSaints, and you’re right, it’s a really similar logo?!

Do you have any videos about puzzle toys that aren't puzzle feeders? My Kitty is totally not food-driven so puzzle feeders are really a no go for him unless I starve him! >.< He's the kind of cat that if the food is being a little more complicated than usual to eat he just walks away and waits untill I spoonfeed him 😅

    • @Pepperprojectz
      @Pepperprojectz  Месяц назад

Oh, good question. We've not, no. But it did get us thinking as to whether we could find anything like that (we'll take it away and see if we can find anything like it). Does he go for treats, rather than normal kibble? We've found Cookie is increadibly selective about what she plays with and even what treats she'll eat. Not that this would be cheap but I'd buy all/lots of different flavour treats from different brands, and see which one he goes for. If he doesn't like one, you could try a toy like the 'Trixie Cat Activity Snack Ball' (put that into Amazon - there's a video of Oreo knocking this around as a kitten without any treats) and leave it on the super easy option (treat hole fully open). Once he's got the hang of that, then you could introduce him to toys slightly more complex and/or switch out the treats to kibble.
Let us know how you get on. We've got a massive list of videos to do not (ha!) but if we can find anything like this (toys that are puzzles without treats), we'll look to create a vid.
p.s. thank you for watching our videos and for all your comments. It makes a big difference! :)

Do you have any recommendations for cat shelves? There are many different ones, and they're an investment. Thank you ❤

    • @Pepperprojectz
      @Pepperprojectz  Месяц назад +1

Oh, what a great question. The short answer is nothing I’d stand behind confidently, mainly because we’ve not tested enough. One of the main reasons is because we’ve tended to use normal furniture, such as book cases or other similar furniture (leaving an empty shelf or two) and positioning a cat tree to allow for top access in place of shelves for high perching points. Previously we’d always rented and been concerned about holes in walls although having recently bought, it’s been something we’ve been meaning to add.
I’ll add this to our list of videos to research / make as it could be quite an interesting one. Thank you for comment and idea! 💡 appreciate the support! K&A

You have a keen eye, they are indeed! Oreo is the slightly darker one whereas Wolf is the lighter grey colour. It’s harder to tell now but when Oreo was young he had a white circle on his side!
Thank you for watching the video btw, I hope you liked it! 😀
