Many people have asked if hawks and other birds of prey can get inside, and also about coyotes and other possible land predators. It is open on top, so birds of prey can get in. So, I have researched it a little. Most hawks are 3 lbs. or smaller and will not tangle with a full-size cat, three times or more bigger than it is. But small cats and kittens could be in danger from hawks. Large eagles, on the other hand, can take any sized cat. It might be possible for coyotes to jump into the enclosure because they can jump up to 8 feet. But in my opinion, most cats will detect its presence and run inside if a predator is prowling around. However, if you live in an area that has a lot of coyotes or birds of prey, a fully enclosed catio might be the better option for you.
That was my first question - predators. I live in a wild place thank you for the answer. Now, what about keeping small animals out. It looks like it will keep the full grown quail and bunnies out, but I'm concerned about the babies getting in.
Thank you! My boys are almost 20# each. But not much "street smarts". They tend to panic and do something not smart. Yes. A barred owl in my trees and a bald eagles nest to my right and their perching tree to my left. They're back and forth all day. It looks like a fabulous enclosure for the right situation. I'm glad I got to see it!
This was exactly my thought. Once I was outside in my yard with my teenager and our cat, who was about 10lbs at the time. A hawk was coming down literally feet above us to grab my cat. I was surprised it was comfortable getting so close to humans. I waved my arms at it and screamed and it went away. I'm in Texas and our birds of prey are very large. But in other parts of the states, this enclosure looks good.
Icelandic sheepdog s protect against birds, while great Pyrenees are good with cats and are great protectors. I have the cats already and saving up for a nice pyr! Where I live, an occasional dog wants to get after a outside cat. I have great trees and bushes all around my house!
I moved ALOT growing up. My Mom would put butter on their feet (paws) and then let them outside. This quirky thing allowed the cats to smell their way back home by the scent of the butter trail they left, allowing them to know where home was. Thought I'd share.
It also helps to protect the paws in winter, also good for dogs (although maybe vaseline is better for them). Edit: white vaseline, not the yellow stuff
That’s sweet but cats don’t get lost…. Also if they have a way inside ….window Always left open or preferably a dog door they are so much safer from becoming prey. Will come home sooner. When vet assist we always said show me a cat hit by a car and I will show you an owner that chases a cat like it’s a dog vs leave door open and go away not yelling name and shaking treats … peep find their cat cause they were driving around looking.. they are to sad to tell them they wouldnt have run if you did not chase …. They are not dogs … they are very strategic and establish territory starting at house … this takes time.. lots … cats that want out and are prevented will act as being hunted and cross street … it’s worth it to them but peep just add more prevention. It’s heart breaking
There are thousands, literally thousands of lost cat posts in my area and there are 49 other states besides the one that I live in. Cats do get lost! 🐈🐈⬛
I know of people who have used Marmite. Generally the rule is to keep your cat inside your new house for 3-5 days, let it roam around freely. It will look out of every window at every angle and have a pretty good 3D map in its head (they really, truly do) of everything that it can see. So when it is let out, it has far less to deal with visually as it only has to fill in the blanks, and then the Smells and Sounds. . If a Cat was simply transported to a new house and let loose, it would have a literal massive headache, and be absolutely stressed as to "what is home and safe, and what is not", which is why so many cats "disapear" when people move home, they have no idea where "home is" and feel abandoned by their "Owners". . IMHO, anyone looking to take on a Pet of any kind should be required to take a course that covers basic things like the animal communication, habits, basic do's and dont's and so on. . On a separate note, all Dogs (and Cats Larger than standard "House Cats") need to be registered. There are excellent examples of this working well all over the World, and we do not want to see literal groups (packs) of Dogs escaping from someone's yard and randomly attacking people (typically small children). The registration in the UK (in the 60's I think) made a massive positive difference, there are other examples.
Yes.... living creatures, desperate to experience freedom, forced to live in a confined and unnatural area where their food is rationed discarded product equating to less than mcdonalds rather than chosen, live, or natural. "our cats constantly try to escape but we lurrrveee themmmm" ....they can't verbally argue for themselves so no choices, no rights. *shrug*
Thank you! I put this system up 9 years ago….it is a GODSEND! My cats are leaner and HAPPIER now that they can freely go in and out out the backyard during the day. I close the cat door at night so they aren’t in the backyard after dark. The only “maintenance” is that I replace the zip ties that secure the mesh to the poles twice a year….here in Florida the UV breaks them down and they become brittle - but the metal poles have held up very well. My cats LOVE IT!
The Purr-fect fence is awesome. My set-up took 2 sets, and they have never lost a kitty in the past 14 years we have had it up. It is a dream to not have done individual litter boxes anymore. Initially we made a large outdoor box with a roof, but soon found out they enjoy doing that out in the grass or under the apple tree. It is the best investment we ever made for our cats and us.🐱💓😻
It's great to hear someone really loves this. I'm thinking about this but I have a small yard and it's kind of ugly. I dont know how my neighbors would feel about it since we have basically a shared back yard with no boundaries.
@@HipsterSpinster_ so, interestingly enough, the black mesh kind of “disappears into the landscape”. Yes, you do see the posts, but my neighbors have never had any objections to the fence.
Thanks for the comment, Reflex! They have not gotten out in three years, so I think it is pretty good. Maybe birds of prey could get in, so unsupervised kittens should not go out is there are hawks in the area.
I have a cat who walked into my apartment a few times before I realized he actually wants to live with _me_ and wasn't just accidentally walking into the wrong apartment. He would love to have a yard like that. I wish! But I'm not even allowed to plant my own flowers outside my door, or have patio furniture 😮"for the safety of the residents." I don't get it. But you're so right about cats not getting overwhelmed by the outdoors if they're used to going out. When Ombre came to live with me, he didn't want to go out. It was below freezing! Now it's warmed up, he wants out, but doesn't go far. One time I closed the entry door to kind of follow him, and he ran back faster than you can say lickety split. His shoulders actually relaxed visibly when he saw me. Then he wanted to be back inside.
My baby girl is like that. She comes out in the yard with me but if I go where she can't see me soon as she sees me she runs to me meowing with relief on her face.
If he was a stray, they are usually very outdoor savvy cats. I wouldn't worry about him going out during the day. Just make sure hes in before the sun goes down because that's when the coyotes come out. I'm talking like before 8 pm. I lost a cat to a coyote in our backyard around 8 pm. It was tough because we went to walmart and forgot she was sunning herself on the deck. We found bits of her fur in the backyard. It was so frustrating. I'm still mad at myself for forgetting. She was 17 and lived a long life but tbh she would probably still be alive if we didnt make that fatal mistake.
Wow- I made the exact same fence design from the same netting and pvc pipes spray painted black! It cost me next to nothing and has lasted going on seven years!
This just popped up in my feed. I love this idea and like how he cautioned about plants that could be toxic. There are many plants the will kill cats and dogs. These cats are living a happy life.
I would add that some places have large predatory birds that will hunt cats and small dogs and coyotes can jump an 8-foot fence easily. A mesh cover for the entire corral would be needed if you live in one of those areas.
Thanks for the comment, Shannon! Those are definitely concerns if you have those animals in the region. Average hawks won't go after cats, but kittens are in danger. Eagles and very large hawks can be a problem for all of them. I would not use one of these if there were coyotes around. I would stick to a catio.
Yes, I live in an area like that. Bobcats, coyotes and other predators have been in my yard. We built a covered enclosure using heavy reinforced double layer cattle panels. I taught my latest cat to walk on a harness and leash. He loves it.
Great idea! And thanks for mentioning the good extras like the shrubs, big grass clumps, catnip and climbing frames. Much better for their physical and mental health. 💖💕. Edit: love your cat marching off: "No, this is my bird!" I got to be pretty good at rescues.
This is the dream! We're looking to buy a house soon and a garden for the cats is one of the top priorities for me. The Purrfect fence system looks great and safer than the options I've seen previously, thanks for sharing it :D Glad to see you back, hope you're doing well!
The house that we bought had a chain link fence meant to keep in large dogs. When we got our cat at age 2, he had been declawed. But! The fence was just the thing for him and he goes out a couple of times a day. It has changed his personality so much. He is far happier and loves to hang with me when I garden. He has areas in the landscaping that provide hide-y spots where he can watch people walking to the park at the end of the block. If you can swing something to allow your cat outside safely, I believe it would seriously improve his/her life. He is thrilled to be outside, to be able to nap in the sun, chase bugs and chew on his cat grass. I am so happy for him and for the huge increase in his happiness and change in his range of his personality.
Ugh , I feel so bad for cats being declawed. What a terrible thing to do but I’m so happy to hear your cat is now in good hands and hopefully is in no or very little pain if at all.
We made one out of chain link panels, one w/ a door. Around the top we put rolled chicken wire fencing which could be propped up intermittently with forest saplings. Worked great.
People who live in an HOA don't really own their home. STAY AWAY from them at all costs. They have power over you, and tell you how to live. These enclosures are awesome, as long as you don't have coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions, birds of prey, etc. If it is merely about keeping your cats safe, and in, and other cats out, this is purrrrfect!!! Bless you!!!!
Good points about wild animals. If you live in a rural area with hunting animals, this system is probably not strong enough. But it might give the cats enough time to run inside. And kittens can always be taken by hawks.
@@9LivesToLive I live in Phoenix, and we have ALL the wild animals. In fact, there was a mountain lion in our neighborhood that my son ran into while walking one of our dogs, the other night (SCARY, but nothing happened, THANKFULLY). My cats go outside after 7am, until 4 pm, and 5 of my 6 stay in the backyard, but my latest rescue won't get with the program, even after a year, grrrr. She stays in the backyard MOST of the time, but does go in the front, and will go down the street, also. We have a block wall fence, but she jumps over it, easily. My other cats can jump over as well, but they don't, and stick very close to home (YAY). They also come in on their own, sometimes even before 4pm. Again, DaisyMay, the rebel, is on her own time, and sometimes shows up at 11pm, FREAKING ME OUT. My answer is 6 catios that I'm building, connected by 8 foot high cat runs. Thus far, I have 3 catios completed, with ramps, high shelves, trees, scratching posts, and other cool stuff to catify the spaces. The tunnels/runs aren't complete yet. Because of this, my cats come in at 4, but now have access to their catios all night long. My other 5 cats are THRILLED with the catios, and being able to be in them at night. DaisyMay is like, MEH, haha. She goes in them, but tries to figure out how to get out to her freedom. That's why I thought this type of fencing may work, but alas, it won't keep the wildlife out. Plus, I have a 1/2 acre, so this would be cost prohibitive. AND we have giant owls all over our neighborhood that come out at dusk. Your ideas are great, and I appreciate your content, as a fellow cat lover (all animals own my soul). So, thank you. Bless you, and your adorable cats 🐈 ❤️
HOAs should be illegal and actually, I don't see how they aren't. I guess it depends if the courts would backup the homeowner or the HOA. Under the law I still don't see how HOAs are legal in any way, even if corrupt local courts grant them undeserved preference.
@@energeticsoulhealer888 ya I really don't see how HOAs are legal, Many of their methods are unethical, I really think somebody needs to challenge them all the way up to the Supreme Court. Now this scotus would probably vote for the HOA but they really need to be legally challenged on a fundamental basis. Perhaps we can get various states' Supreme Courts strike them down. It's true that some people willingly agreed to it when they moved in, but they probably don't know what they were getting into. Nobody should have to meet anybody else's standards if they owned their own property. That's what property rights ARE. HOAs completely violate that and they presume powers of a government authority by demanding monthly membership and steep ones at that. I find both of these realities perplexing and stunning. HOAs have no right to be coercive regarding anyone's legally-owned private property or to demand money. If someone's demanding I pay them, and it's not for a legitimate debt, and they're not government, I call that extortion. I just failed to see how HOAs get away with being financially coercive and coercive regarding other's private property. They aren't the government. Ergo, I fail to see how they have any legal authority. A court may back them up because courts have done many dirty things, but that doesn't mean that a legitimate court would uphold such a ruling.
We have something similar but not as elegant. We built a an closure of pressure treated poles, then added plastic VERY strong netting and a stretched net across over it all. They can run, jump, sneak about and have fun. We have a NON flat backyard that undulates up into a forested areaso we have to build it ourselves. This particular brand is NOT available in Sweden so we found and built our own solution. Now our trio is running in and out of the house using our SURE Petflat for chipped pets. So Purrfect Fence should have a look at the Euopean Market, especially the Scandinavian areas is a good spot to start. -Suggested improvements: DOUBLE upper fenceoff. Cats can climb in from the outside and fall inside. How about a DuoTopFlap function? Keep in and keep out should be a good idea here.
I kept my mom's house cats after she passed away and bought one of these for a small section of my yard and set it up with cat trees and hideaways for them. I hate litter boxes in the house so I also set up litter boxes and they use them and very rarely have to do cleanup outside of the box. I put collars on the cats with bells so any birds or little critters that may venture into their enclosure can hear them. It's been a win-win situation.
If you do your research, you'll learn that cats really don't affect bird populations much compared to humans. It's funny how people focus on cats when compared to humans it's so miniscule. 😂
great video dude , u can absolutely tell that u r a compassionate soul ; we lost a cat to a coyote a few years ago , and it was outside of our yard/fence , had we had a way to have keep our little hunter/killer inside a safer fenced area he would not have gotten caught , but he was a wanderer and often stalked over several acres [our fenced yard was less than 1 acre , but the property was several] , i will always miss him , we know that he was happiest being free to roam , but obvs the risks ended up with him losing his life too soon , RIP Grayson
My last kitty was 20 when she passed just before Covid. Over the years all my cats have been indoor/outdoor and lived 17-21 yrs. Starting with Covid, the neighborhood pet make up has changed to more dogs - running free dogs more specifically - and they have killed a few cats. I've been reluctant to bring a new cats into such a risky / free roaming environment. This is a brilliant solution - Thank you for sharing.
One of my cats would have no problem in climbing that sh*tty bending fence. He's like a very confident mean wild fierce animal. People can never believe what he is capable of until seeing him. He probably was an Olympic gymnast in his previous life. He can climb walls without any support and look like the freaking spidercat. Child locks are just an easy play to him. He even finds ways to open things with certain types of normal locks on them. If he wants something he is going to find a way. Sometimes he is really scary... He would rule the world if he had opposable thumbs! The only way that could possibly work would be covering the top part as well with close and extremely regular inspections to the fence. I would still be very concerned nevertheless. Being so mean, he’s the type of cat that if he was plotting to kill his humans he would have achieved that a long time ago. That's why I know he loves us and I'm so glad that we're worth of deserving his love. (And yes, visits to the vet are the definition of Hell on Earth! We were asked many times if we didn't want to declaw, defang or euthanize him which is disgusting! He's still my forever lovely baby.😻)
My cats are cunning and can escape Alcatraz. We have a fence just like the one advertised and my cats would climb over it as if it wasn't there. I no longer let my cats out because we have coyotes, foxes, and other predators that have killed neighbor cats not to mention people who steal them.
This is a great idea in theory. In our area though we have a lot of "flying" predators like eagles, hawks etc. We would need to have an enclosed top as well.
Yes, birds of prey are a danger to small cats and kittens. Large cats, not so much, unless you have eagles around. Land predators can get it. But cats are pretty smart and I suspect that they will detect a prowling predator and run inside or make an escape as the predator is climbing the mesh. If your neighborhood is full of dangerous predators, a fully enclosed catio might be a better option. Thanks for your comment!
Same. I have a large great horned owl that wants to eat my *small dog.* if she has to spend time outside unsupervised or without her much larger dog brothers, I make her wear a harness I fashioned out of leather with metal spikes, like a wolfhound collar. No bird of prey is getting a decent hold on her without grabbing a spike through the foot first.
We installed one of these enclosures in 2020. Best project ever. Really well thought out and the company was fantastic to deal with. The installation was pretty straightforward, we did it ourselves. Our cats get plenty of exercise and we have peace of mind knowing they are safe. Great product.
Here in Australia we created our garden enclosure, which includes a full length verandah of the house, and we designed it ourselves. It is a lot like yours but we used 8 foot steel rio bars pounded into the ground every 10 feet, and spread white bird netting the full length, ground to the top. The lower 3 feet of the fence is wire mesh and plastic mesh for strength and safety. My cats were 10 years indoors and now only one 14 y/o remains and she loves her big garden. The beauty of this design is that no cat can get out and no animal but birds and lizards can get in! It has been there 4 years and still perfect.
@@9LivesToLive Hi, yes, it is from our local nursery and is UV quality. It only comes in white. My cat has a large portion of garden which has a tree and shrubs, plus a modern , large kennel with comfortable mats if it rains (is autumn going on winter here now), as well as a small home made walk in house to lay in the sun while having an arched roof. She has fake grass and natural ground with grasses that grow in this region which is her favourite to eat, I am home all the time so let her in and out all day as she chooses, and that’s because of spiders and flies we have the screen door to the house closed. She is on my bed at night. The UV bird net is very lightweight, but strong. In 4 years it has not deteriorated, it is absolutely perfect. No stray cat can get in and my can cannot get out because, as you know, netting cannot be climbed, Also, I have a 3 foot square dedicated toilet area which has earth soil I buy from the nursery in large bags and is the cheapest, plainest earth which gives her natural soil to go in which I dig out and replace, plus there is other natural ground she can also use. It’s a wonderful set up and that garden is my own quiet place to spend time with her. Under the 15 foot long verandah of the house she has a couple comfy chairs to sleep on , too. She has lots of options 😃
@@Cc07 It is the best cat proof garden ever. Cheap too. The bird netting can be quite taught, does not need to sit slack, for no cat can climb it since it is unstable with regards to absolutely no purchase and my cat never even tried anyway. She could see beyond into the greater garden and watch birds on the other side in their birdbath below a big tree. Easy to erect and get the us netting for long lasting ability. My girl passed away a couple months ago, sadly. But the whole point was she was safe at all costs and no other cat could get in either.
You are the first person I have ever seen on RUclips or other social media who actually does it right!! Awesome! I am a wildlife biologist and a Birder, and so I have grown to have a serious dislike of outdoor, free-roaming and feral cats that so many people misinterpret as me "hating cats" which cannot be further from the truth! I have had cats most of my adult life even despite an allergy to them so I think that says something about how much I actually do love them!! I petitioned several counties to build such a cat enclosure where people can bring cats instead of abandoning them to become feral. I have helped someone install a very similar enclosure on their property, and it turned out great! I rent and so cannot do this myself but if I had the opportunity I would love something like this for myself and my own cats. Thank you!
This is so full of useful information I can not think of anything you may have left out. Plus I never heard of this cat fence before. Now that I know I will be spreading the news.
Fantastic video ! I can relate that the cats see the catio as just another room in the house and they do want, what we call “out out”. My space now is too small for this set up with to many neighbours cats that would get trapped inside as they already climb the fence. My cats do have a catio and it is used all year round. Another consideration is where I live coyotes do come into town and this is a safety concern as with the Great Horned Owls from above. I loved watching this video beautiful and informative.
Those are great concerns! I have seen coyotes occasionally at dusk, and I have heard owls, but not sure what type they were. I know that owls can carry off cats (I recently learned about this, and I'm sure most people are unaware of this!) My concern was eagles, because we had a couple pairs in our area, and the people who kept tabs on their welfare had found cat collars in their nests!
I had the same concerns. Since my outdoor space is smaller (about 40' x 25') I added 16 guage wire panels across the top. I also bring the cats in at night to avoid their bringing a surprise "gift" (lizard, snake) to my bed in the middle of the night. They have access to the screened porch overnight. I helped a friend with her small space and we added deer netting across the top. That keeps small animals and owls/hawks out and her kitties in. It has held up for over 5 years now. If your spot is small, perhaps that could work for you.
This is awesome to see. I love to see people actually working to give their cats good lives instead of being lazy and just letting them outside to slaughter wildlife / get eaten. This is incredible!
What a great video, I watched it twice!😁👍 It was wonderful to see Jenny's beautiful cats, all so different. You always have such great ideas for things we can do to keep our cats happy! Many thanks and God bless.🙏
Omg! I want Lulu, Oreo and the others to come here for a visit!!! In my next life….I am coming back as a fluffy lovey cat 🐈⬛ to a home that has this large enclosure!! 👏👏🐈🐈 Meanwhile…..I am the human with five indoor felines. 2 are on big screened porch. Heat pad boxes in winter, etc. One in basement with secure windows/screened doors. One in house….has big window views. This summer we hope to integrate 3 of them. All are spayed ladies. BUT a safe fenced area would be glorious!! We have hawks/owls so it might need to be an overhead contraption also. We love our cats…..and they bring so much love and joy. Thks for this video. 🐈⬛🐈⬛🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾 I subscribed!
Even though your yard has rocks that prevent you from building this type of catio you can build a network of raised tunnels all around. And you can even build a small enclosed catio at the end that has a cement platform
Nice, but we'd have to be on the watch too much for hawks that come down out of the sky through the open area in the middle. We had to put netting over the whole 20x25 fenced in area that our chickens are in; hawks would sit on telephone pole or in high trees and watch for opportunities..:/....little black fluffy kitty so cute!
Smaller cats and kittens can be in danger if you have large hawks in the area. The Red Tails, for example, weight 3 lbs or less, I don't think they want to tangle with a full sized cat of 10 to 15 pounds unless they are really hungry. But maybe I'm wrong.
@@9LivesToLive yep! My H wouldn't let the stray inside when she first came to us. We fixed her a place on the covered porch. She was only a couple months old accord to the vet. We have the big almost three foot high hawks here. I would sit on the deck with her on my shoulder and hiss when I saw a hawk fly over. She lived outside for a year but was super vigilant about whatever was above her. Now she's mostly inside, but still has her instincts and reflexes from her outside time. She won't even get up on my counters or furniture-- I assume because it's a higher more exposed area...happy me😊🥰
My house cat/kitten love to go in the garden with my dogs so to keep them safe I put a leash on and attach to the bottom of the fence They love it Al sit out and watch them play for hours Thanks for sharing 😊
I tried hArness and leash because it would slow them down ( cats), but they get out of a harness in a second. Especially one - he goes somewhere where leash gets stuck, then turns backward and just wiggles out. I saw him - 1 second and he is out. So when walking with him on a leash i must keep him forward all the time. Can not find anywhere a west. So beware, sooner or later your cat learns. It is better to keep an eye on him
@@bambinaforever1402 not on a harness they have a collar on and leash on that they only get in my garden and I sit out there with them Love watching them play Too many dogs of leash so couldn’t walk them really
What a wonderful idea. Thank you so much for this information. I would never have thought about it. I don't have cat but if I get some I will do this enclosure. I think it would also be good for tiny dogs if you don't have a fence. blessings to you and the cats. 😊💜💚💜😊
@@aurorab6796 Hi Aurora B. good point. So I would also put wire above the enclosure as well . That's what I intend to do with chickens when I have some. 💚
@@franpie2264 Yes and I have an 8" X 8" catio with wire topped, but if it's big like the one in video it would be hard to cover without lots of supports. I watched a hawk come down, but he realized my cats were enclosed. I would love to have something like that for them, but don't think I could cover it all. I also worry about dogs, too many people around here let their dogs loose.
I love that it's built with the grass and plants enclosed. It's much more natural like you find in the back yard, except the kitties are safe from predators!! This is exactly how all the corral should be!!
Love the idea. Our four inside outside cats instantly became inside cats, after some trouble with a neighbor. They've been pining to go outside ever since; that's six years. The only point we seem to differ on, is the other wild life. Mice, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, etc.. That's the main part of being outside the cats miss. It's what a cat, living it's best life, does. IMO. We will certainly be looking into Purrfect Fence. Thank you for the video!
@@janetannerevans2320 your homes were a serious threat to the traditional predators of the birds… many of which have become endangered due to communities being built. The nests being built lower and exposed is due to people feeding the birds with feeders set at levels to please people vs safety of birds… removing predators completely creates other problems…
That is a really neat cat corral. I like the window exit. I hadn't thought of that but it would be a really easy fix. I really like the top that keeps them from climbing over. I am moving to a more rural area of Alaska and there is a bald eagle nest not far from our new home. I need to keep the cats and my 2 small dogs inside a covered area so I'm considering bird netting. I had wondered how I could keep the cats from trying to climb on the bird netting and possibly ripping it up or even worse- hanging themselves. I think the cat corral with a bird net over it would keep everyone safe. Thanks for sharing.
Great video and information. Your manner is at once friendly and matter of fact. You are the kind of person who makes a wonderful lifelong friend. Best to you and the cats.
Thanks so much for making this video. I’d never heard of this product and it makes sense. I live in a condo with very little backyard space (and only have 1 cat) but I know others who have single-family homes. I’m going to tell them about this.
I used to feel like her about my 3 cats. Then I got so tired running after them all the time. So I let them be. What I did was I taught them to come home everytime I call them by giving them treats and their food. They do not roam beyond our backyard anymore. Happy them, happy me ❤
I'm really glad I found your video. We've been looking for a way that to let our kitties out on our patios. We have several small ones and this product might be the thing to allow our kitties some outdoor space. Thank you
I have the Purrfect Fence system, have since 2019. Moved and took it with me to my new h ome, where I gave my indoor only cats a window and climbing tree to go outside and run, dig in sandy soil, doing their biz outside and eating grass. Catching chasing lizards. I need to put the door in now, and its hard to find someone to install. However, these fences are great! Been through a hurricane already, and the cats are so much happier and slimmer...PS. I did have 1 black snake brought in.. LOL
I have a big black rescue dog called Missy who had separation anxiety she was on expensive drugs so I bought her a tiny ginger kitten who I named Gideon to be a companion to stop Missy stressing whenever I had to go out. Now Giddy is a big boy & he was an indoor cat for safety. But he started stressing because he wanted to be outside with Missy so they both play in front yard I don’t worry Missy will keep unwanted cats out & let neighbourhood know if stranger’s tried to take Gideon. So I don’t need to buy a fence 😊 oh & Missy doesn’t need expensive drugs😉🇦🇺
What a kind person you are to make this video, which goes over all the needed info (perimeter checking, what plants to not have in it, etc, etc). Looks like a great product. I've always had indoor/outdoor cats and made sure I lived where it was safe to let them do that. Now I live where it's not safe (coyotes, hawks) so can't have a cat for now.
U can walk with your cat on a leash or u can be with your cat outside supervising. Boring i know, but letting your cats roam free in the neighbourhood, safe or not safe, is no bueno. There are mean people, mean dogs and cars. Driven by mean people.
@@bambinaforever1402 I'm not going to get another cat until I live in a safe area again, and I'm not going to prevent my future cat from going outside. I've had many cats throughout my life and none of those things have ever been a problem. Appreciate your concern though.
Thank you for making these videos for cats! One tip- Diatomaceous earth is an excellent alternitive to pesticides to prevent fleas, indoors and out. Far safer, very efective and low cost.
Diatomaceous earth may be hazardous to any animal’s lungs. Note also that there are two kinds of DE - food grade usage and non-food-grade; important if you use this in your garden.
@@pkeyrich Yes, thank you for mentioning! Very important to keep animals away while applying it and wear a mask, but after it's settled and not airborne it's all good!

Great video. Glad to see you post- you’ve been missed! We’re hoping to build a catio. The fence you shared can’t work in our small yard but a catio could offer some safe outdoor time. Thanks.
It's great for indoor cats. But, unfortunately, after they are used to freely roaming the neighborhood, they would not be happy in an enclosure. Thanks for commenting, Stacy!
@@9LivesToLive yeah but they stick to my yard mainly anyways and I also have 4 of my own inside. I have a cat room off the back porch where I feed. It has a cat door for them to come and go.
This is absolutely awesome ! I want to live in Jenny's backyard. I had 5 cats. Four have passed due to old age or disease. I always felt bad because they lived their life in an apartment. Strictly indoor because there are to many things that could happen to them wandering the streets. This is great though if you can do it
Awesome I love passionate, loving & nurturing parents whether they’re parents of mini humans or cats & dogs. Seeing furry pals & kids live their best lives is a wonderful thing especially during these tense & gloomy times🫤😧 Cats & dogs are gifts to humanity that bring us endless love, laughs & joy. They make us happier, healthier & better. If the world had more pet lovers we’d have a kinder world, there’s no doubt in my mind.🙂👍 🐱 + 🐶 ABSOLUTELY RULE!😊👍 PET PARENTS TOTALLY ROCK!😇🤟
I built my own enclosure across the back of the house and connected to my screened-in porch. It's a space about 45 ft long and 20 feet deep. I made various levels of climbing spots using scrap cedar fencing and old pool ladders and such. They roll in the grass, nap on elevated spots outside, chase bugs and lizards, and when they want, can come into the house through a pet door. It's not the same as roaming the neighborhood freely, but they are happy. Though I understand some pet owners have limited options, I think it's borderline cruel for these animals to spend their entire lives gazing through screen or glass.
Ahh dang, I think I have rocks in the backyard too. But I loved this video, so much to think about! I want my kitties to have safe access to the outdoors, one of them cries to be outside every day 🌸
So go out with him. Being even a short time outside is better than no outside. Mine jump on fence, so if i say no, go down immediately they go down. If i do not see then they go on the other side. So keep an eye and everything will be all right
This is one of the BEST videos I've seen. Thank you for all the great info. I'm planning to buy my own land soon and starting a rehab, sanctuary, clinic, adoption centre. I do agree that kitties need outdoor access and catios are the answer to keep them safe.
A cat that's free to roam will travel up to a few miles every night, to see their friends. Indoor cats is a strange concept to a British person who doesn't live in a block of flats. Everyone with a garden has a catflap
Please rethink letting your cat go outside! They love it, yes. But sometimes, there is a tragedy. I have one of those stories. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. This is the way to go!! This is priceless. Absolutely gonna do this!!
Thanks so much for your comment! Some cats can go outside relatively safely depending on the area where you live. Cars, predators, dogs, etc. are all important considerations. It's so difficult balancing their need to wander with their safety.
@@9LivesToLive agree. I live in one of these remote, safer than safe places. And it happened. 😔 I never would have thought. He was outside with me. Walked up to me crying, with a large laceration to his left side. Clean cut. Still no idea what happened. He passed at the vet on the table. Kitty heart attack. That cat was MY WORLD. My soul mate kitty. I'll never forgive myself.😕 CATIO. When I'm ready for another cat.🙏🔥 If I'd only had one.....
Two happy customers here in N.E. Ohio! We had Purrfect Fence installed in our new (1962) home four years ago this month. We brought three "outside" cats with us (they lived on our enclosed patio year round) because there was NO way we would leave them behind. As expected they tried climbing the fence but realized that was not going to work and we never saw them try it again. The fence has held up very well and we have seen no outside animals try to climb into our enclosure. Sadly, one of the cats managed to catch a bird but that is way fewer than what they did where we lived before. Two thumbs up for Purrfect Fence!
@@MD-dw5qg Thanks! As I said above NO way would we leave these precious cats behind when we moved. Of the three cats who moved here with us only 8 year old Lennie is still alive. Nellie and Lester lived rich, full lives of 17 and 16 years, respectively. Regards...
If the enclosure is not too big you can put the netting up as a roof as well.

I moved ALOT growing up. My Mom would put butter on their feet (paws) and then let them outside. This quirky thing allowed the cats to smell their way back home by the scent of the butter trail they left, allowing them to know where home was. Thought I'd share.
Never heard of that, but sounds like a great way to train your cats! Thanks for sharing the idea, Leo!
My grandmother did this too well over 50 years ago That's an Old Wives Tale that is true!
This is called living a QUALITY LIFE, versus just existing.
YES
So basically cats are living better than their owners at this point 😂
What a kind person you are, so willing to go the extra mile to give your cats the best lives possible. All good things to you sir.
You are so kind, Tango! I appreciate the comment.
By looking at that yard, I can see how much you love your cats! Looks wonderful, my cats would think they lived in paradise!
And us! The best video on this topic.

Wonderful!

It is the best investment we ever made for our cats and us.🐱💓😻
So great!

The Cats must love an outside space, and as long as they can't get out or other critters in, I think this is a great idea!
Thanks for the comment, Reflex! They have not gotten out in three years, so I think it is pretty good. Maybe birds of prey could get in, so unsupervised kittens should not go out is there are hawks in the area.
i think critters end up smelling the cats scent and the lack of tall grass isn't inviting to any critter
Still a danger of the cats predating on the native animals. All the danger is not to our cats.

He knows when he has a good thing going! LOL
Sounds to me that you are his peaceful sanctuary ❤
My baby girl is like that. She comes out in the yard with me but if I go where she can't see me soon as she sees me she runs to me meowing with relief on her face.
I have been the chosen human of a couple of cats.

Those cats prancing around is so cute . What lucky cats .
This just popped up in my feed. I love this idea and like how he cautioned about plants that could be toxic. There are many plants the will kill cats and dogs. These cats are living a happy life.
Thanks so much for the comment, Auntb! I appreciate it!
That would be necessary in my area - We have large owls, hawks, eagles and coyotes that take out prey larger than a housecat.
Thank you for posting. I’m buying a home soon, and this is a good option to consider.
Glad it was helpful!

This is the dream! We're looking to buy a house soon and a garden for the cats is one of the top priorities for me. The Purrfect fence system looks great and safer than the options I've seen previously, thanks for sharing it :D
Glad to see you back, hope you're doing well!
You can do it, Mette! Thanks for your comment!
It sounds like a great solution for you. Thanks for sharing, KCW!
Ugh , I feel so bad for cats being declawed. What a terrible thing to do but I’m so happy to hear your cat is now in good hands and hopefully is in no or very little pain if at all.

@@YourCapyFrenBigly_3DPipes1999 EXACTLY. HOA's are criminal. They are a micro of the macro...
@@energeticsoulhealer888 ya I really don't see how HOAs are legal,
Many of their methods are unethical, I really think somebody needs to challenge them all the way up to the Supreme Court.
What a great video! I can’t be believe more people aren’t talking about this fence! Thank you so much for sharing!!

Thanks for caring for your mom’s pets.
The bird population is SO grateful for this choice, thank you! 🐦🙏
So sorry to hear about your cat. It's so hard to find the right balance between safety and quality of life.
I'm so glad you liked it!

Free roaming cats sucks too.
@@cathyosbourne6986 yes, but they do not kill anyone and do not poop in the middle of the road. I hate free roaming dogs
Yes, you have to know your cat and its capabilities! Some cats are super smart and ingenious escape artists.
My cats are cunning and can escape Alcatraz. We have a fence just like the one advertised and my cats would climb over it as if it wasn't there. I no longer let my cats out because we have coyotes, foxes, and other predators that have killed neighbor cats not to mention people who steal them.
If you have the overhang they cannot get over that. I have M.Coon climbers but they cannot beat it.
The things we do for our children ❤❤❤❤
This is a great idea in theory. In our area though we have a lot of "flying" predators like eagles, hawks etc. We would need to have an enclosed top as well.
Same here. Even on her leash Jazz needs supervision to keep the hawks away. 😏
No bird of prey is getting a decent hold on her without grabbing a spike through the foot first.
like Alaska........my kitty is a climber, don't think this will help
My cousin [chuckling] had to do that to protect her chickens.
We installed one of these enclosures in 2020. Best project ever. Really well thought out and the company was fantastic to deal with. The installation was pretty straightforward, we did it ourselves. Our cats get plenty of exercise and we have peace of mind knowing they are safe. Great product.
That's what I think, Paddy!
What did the cat enclosure cost ?
My yard had a Koi pond which eventually tempted the raccoons through the fence. And their break-in became the cats escape route. So much fun!

Lmao most of these comments sound so fake. This fence is outrageously expensive and everyone is saying thank you 😂😂
Best possible solution. I wish everybody had a garden for their cats. You are the perfect cat owner. A good role model. Thanks❤️
Here in Australia we created our garden enclosure, which includes a full length verandah of the house, and we designed it ourselves. It is a lot like yours but we used 8 foot steel rio bars pounded into the ground every 10 feet, and spread white bird netting the full length, ground to the top. The lower 3 feet of the fence is wire mesh and plastic
mesh for strength and safety. My cats were 10 years indoors and now only one 14 y/o remains and she loves her big garden. The beauty of this design is that no cat can get out and no animal but birds and lizards can get in! It has been there 4 years and still perfect.
It sounds like a great solution, Sky! I'm curious, is the bird netting strong enough?
Wow this setup sounds amazing!
Thank you!
It's cruel to keep cats inside full time. If that means that a wild bird's life is cut short, so be it. At least they both got to live free.
It's a compromise, not perfect but reasonable. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it!
Fantastic video. Thank you for all the info. Those are some very loved and lucky cats!
This is so full of useful information I can not think of anything you may have left out. Plus I never heard of this cat fence before. Now that I know I will be spreading the news.
Great! I'm sure the cats will appreciate it, Sheila!
Amazing work sir. So much effort and shows how you love your animals.
Cats need to live outside too.
Ok but you NEED the fence bc they are an invasive and very destructive species. People like to just forget that.
How lovely. My boy is 18 now and just likes to sleep in the sunshine when he gets outdoors.
So great!
Thanks for your comment, Shawna! I can appreciate the problem with the predators in your area, especially if your cats are smaller.
Those are great concerns! I have seen coyotes occasionally at dusk, and I have heard owls, but not sure what type they were.
I know that owls can carry off cats (I recently learned about this, and I'm sure most people are unaware of this!)
My concern was eagles, because we had a couple pairs in our area, and the people who kept tabs on their welfare had found cat collars in their nests!
@@1211foster cats can sleep inside u know, that is enough they can enjoy outside during day time
@@1211fosterthis is all great info!! Thank you!🙏
This is awesome to see.
Thank you so much, Diane! I appreciate your comment, and watching it twice!
Omg! I want Lulu, Oreo and the others to come here for a visit!!! In my next life….I am coming back as a fluffy lovey cat 🐈⬛ to a home that has this large enclosure!! 👏👏🐈🐈
Meanwhile…..I am the human with five indoor felines.
A big screened porch is great if hawks and owls are a problem. Thanks for the sub!
Thank You, 9 Lives To Live! A smaller setup with Purrfect Fence would still be enjoyable for cats 🐈
Yes, any outdoor space, even tiny is good.
So glad to hear of this!
extremely thorough discussion about the pros and cons of building this enclosure for cats...EXCELLENTE
Thanks, Schoomzer!
Even though your yard has rocks that prevent you from building this type of catio you can build a network of raised tunnels all around. And you can even build a small enclosed catio at the end that has a cement platform
Thanks for the suggestions!
She won't even get up on my counters or furniture-- I assume because it's a higher more exposed area...happy me😊🥰
Everyone deserves to run free!!
Aww, it's like Disney World for kitties! 🐈⬛
It is better to keep an eye on him
@@bambinaforever1402 not on a harness they have a collar on and leash on that they only get in my garden and I sit out there with them Love watching them play Too many dogs of leash
so couldn’t walk them really
What a wonderful idea. Thank you so much for this information. I would never have thought about it. I don't have cat but if I get some I will do this enclosure. I think it would also be good for tiny dogs if you don't have a fence. blessings to you and the cats. 😊💜💚💜😊
It is neat, but if you have owls and hawks they may get your cat.
You are welcome, John! Thanks for commenting!
outdoor cats are a serious threat to native song birds.
@@janetannerevans2320 I really don't want to argue. However, I cannot not say this... Birds can fly.
@@johnafagerquist8235Bird eggs cannot fly.
This is an important concern. Eagles are big and tough. You might be better to consider a catio.
Great video and information. Your manner is at once friendly and matter of fact. You are the kind of person who makes a wonderful lifelong friend. Best to you and the cats.
Thank you for the kind comment, Suzanne!
Thanks so much for making this video. I’d never heard of this product and it makes sense. I live in a condo with very little backyard space (and only have 1 cat) but I know others who have single-family homes. I’m going to tell them about this.
Thanks for sharing!
I used to feel like her about my 3 cats. Then I got so tired running after them all the time. So I let them be. What I did was I taught them to come home everytime I call them by giving them treats and their food. They do not roam beyond our backyard anymore. Happy them, happy me ❤
It's so great that your cats stay in their yard! Thanks for the comment!
Healthy boundaries!
That's a great idea! I think our cats would love this.
I'm really glad I found your video. We've been looking for a way that to let our kitties out on our patios. We have several small ones and this product might be the thing to allow our kitties some outdoor space. Thank you
You're welcome, Kathlene!
that setup looks like a dream cat home!
LOL
Thanks for the comment, n! When you moved the fence, did you have problems getting the metal sheaths out of the ground?
@@9LivesToLive No I did not. It moved easily with me to Florida.
I have one of these too. Did you take the netting with you too?
Did this to our entire front yard a few years back. Best thing you can do for your cats.
This is my dream. I am currently a city-dwelling renter, but I hope the day will come for me to give such a great environment to my two cats.
Great story! Love it!
What's an "unwanted cat?"
Thank you so much for all this good information. I appreciate you taking the time to put together this informtion.
Thanks so much, MK!
♡ ☆ ♡ Happy cats...Happy house !! ♡☆♡ You are a beautiful person to take such good care of your furends...♡☆♡
Too bad, but you are right. Some areas are not safe for domestic cats.
Omg! Daily dose of cuteness right there!
Thank you for making these videos for cats! One tip- Diatomaceous earth is an excellent alternitive to pesticides to prevent fleas, indoors and out. Far safer, very efective and low cost.
Thanks for the suggestion, Serendipity!

Gosh I really love this! I take care of a small colony and they worry me so much. This would be great.
Seeing furry pals & kids live their best lives is a wonderful thing especially during these tense & gloomy times🫤😧
Cats & dogs are gifts to humanity that bring us endless love, laughs & joy. They make us happier, healthier & better. If the world had more pet lovers we’d have a kinder world, there’s no doubt in my mind.🙂👍
🐱 + 🐶 ABSOLUTELY RULE!😊👍
PET PARENTS TOTALLY ROCK!😇🤟
I would love to do this in my garden for my cat - we have too many coyotes, raccoons & bobcats in the NW for her to be an outdoor cat too ❤
How about a catio?
If you have a strong welded metal fence with decent reinforcement & it's fully enclosed, you should be fine!
Sounds great!
Ahh dang, I think I have rocks in the backyard too. But I loved this video, so much to think about! I want my kitties to have safe access to the outdoors, one of them cries to be outside every day 🌸
I know! I hate when they do that!

Yes, it all depends on the neighborhood and wild animals in the area.
TY!
I live in Vancouver. The outdoors are home to bears, coyotes and cougars… but most dangerously dogs and cars 😅

Thanks so much for your comment! Some cats can go outside relatively safely depending on the area where you live. Cars, predators, dogs, etc. are all important considerations. It's so difficult balancing their need to wander with their safety.

Bless you for not leaving your cats behind!
@@MD-dw5qg Thanks! As I said above NO way would we leave these precious cats behind when we moved. Of the three cats who moved here with us only 8 year old Lennie is still alive. Nellie and Lester lived rich, full lives of 17 and 16 years, respectively. Regards...
