- HEAR YEE! HEAR YEE! Fans of all things theory crafting, Final Fantasy 7 & the oh so elusive LOVELESS. Recent FF7 Remake news from Square Enix revealed a little change to the episode Yuffie Intergrade title, making it intermission. On top of the quotes of Weiss matching Genesis secret ending, I think theres a strong case the the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga is in fact the 5th and final missing verse of Loveless. In this theory I'm gonna explore what that means for the story, where Final Fantasy 7 could be headed and why a 'Promise' must surely be integral to this games resolution. Wasnt expecting to cover this theme and the the relationship between Cloud & Aerith this often, but when the hollow theme song, the mystery of LOVELESS & the fate of the game all (COULD) hinge on them. It's hard not to cover lol. I'd like to add that my comments on Weiss appearing in Yuffie episode Intergrade / Intermission seems like its a timeline canonicity break. It may not necessarily be so, im not the most versed on Dirge Of Cerberus lore :P. Regardless the theme of the stage being set seems to glaring to miss and I this peasant is hoping it all leads up to a new twist on the ending of FF7. This remake will seem pointless with all its changes if it doesnt make some significant new commentary on the world, its characters, a philosophy. Aerith potentially reconsidering the fate of her own death and instead of being 'lead' to the forest on intuition. She now knows full well her death awaits and I feel however her & Cloud navigate that situation together, its going to be what redefines their characters & completes a core component of Loveless final act. This theory contains big spoilers for the ending of BASICALLY EVERYTHING in the FF7 universe. Square Enix are playing 5D Final Fantasy chess with us people ;)

Hehe took way longer than expected, (couldnt resist adding edits in by the end 😆) but drawing this new episode Yuffie stuff to hinting we are in LOVELESS issss just a theory. But I think I'm certain on it now that for me personally, I want a big new ending to FF7.

Pes i finally fixed up my theory just like I promised you and this is how it goes!
My theory starts out with a cut scene or piece of dialogue from the OG Game where Cloud and his mom are talking about Sephiroth when Cloud was still a kid and according to Cloud that because of his talk about Sephiroth,Cloud's mom seemed to get disappointed in Cloud or just giving up on him cus of said dreams Cloud had of Sephiroth,but anyways why would Cloud's mom worry about Cloud for anything he would mention of Sephiroth?...

And my theory for this is "that she probably knew Sephiroth and the circumstances Sorrounding his birth" which also makes me think there was a possibility that Cloud's mom worked on the JENOVA project as one of Hojo's many assistants...But why would she do that though?..." Unless there was a possibility she knew Hojo and or Lucrecia personally." Maybe she was friends with Lucrecia or something...Another reason of why I came up with this is because of what Sephiroth said to Cloud where supposedly in FF 7 Remake Sephiroth said that Cloud's mom begged Sephiroth not to kill Cloud,but why though why would she beg Sephiroth not to harm Cloud unless there is something more much deeper that Cloud's mom knows about Sephiroth,something she dared not tell Cloud since Cloud was a child about Sephiroth that not only had to do with JENOVA but other things as well?...
Which leads me to FF7 Crisis Core and maybe again OG FF7 of a certain scene that people always seem to disreguard when Sephiroth is staying at the Nibelheim inn,where Sephiroth tells Zack some rather strange or cryptic word as Sephiroth stares out of the 2nd floor window in Nibelheim's inn he specifically tells Zack that "That it is strange but that Nibelheim seems quite familiar to him"(I mean he was born there duh but he was taken away as a baby to Midgar so from then on he has not been back in Nibel.) So why would Nibelheim be familiar to Sephiroth if he has not been in Nibelheim ever since he was a baby?...Unless Sephiroth "has" been to Nibelheim before like time later,but maybe when he was like a child,but he just does not seem to remember very much of it cus again he was still a kid.
And if you look closely at the direction Sephiroth is looking out the window from,he seems to be staring straight out to the house of Cloud's mom Claudia,why would Seph look at that direction unless he knew Claudia a long time ago when he was a kid,but just doesn't remember very much about it since he was a kid?... I even dare say that he knew Cloud when he was a baby,and Claudia begging Sephiroth to spare Cloud has something to do with Cloud once being a baby.
Which leads me to something else and that was "Who in the world was Cloud's father?!..." And this lead me back to the JENOVA project thing again,and who worked in that project,well it was well Hojo,yes indeed why Hojo the man seemed to have that Jenova connection to Nibelheim but not only Jenova but to Cloud's mom as well,which lead me again to who was Cloud's father and the answer I came up with was I think it was Hojo,cus if we see in OG FF7 Hojo did have a thing for hanging around women a lot why would any chick like Hojo at all is beyond me if he's freagging fugly,but it seems the old codger knows his way around women.
Which makes me think Hojo is possibly Cloud's dad or something.
Which makes me think maybe Sephiroth truly is indeed blood related to Sephiroth not just through Jenova Cells but through Hojo as well,Hojo does seem like the kind of guy who would knock up a woman and just leave her to her own fortune.
Which leads me again to Sephiroth not killing Cloud cus he probably felt that well known feeling of familiarity which is that of brothers,even when you look back at The OG game and Crisis Core that before Seph went all evil he was a really nice guy to not just Zack and his soldiers but to Cloud as well,which leads me to another cut out scene in the OG game where Sephiroth seems genuinely concerned for Cloud's well being,cus Cloud started Feeling sick as he headed to Nibelheim with Sephiroth Zack and the other random soldier...in that scene sephiroth told Cloud that he wish he had something to make Cloud feel better,but he didn't so he suggested Cloud to look out the window of the truck they were in cus maybe it would make Cloud feel better,anyways I think this happened cus maybe Sephiroth subconsciously felt his familial ties with Cloud.
*[Anyways this is all i have to say i do not know if it would make much sense to you but this is just my own theory i cooked up from what i have seen read and heard in the Final Fantasy 7 Game.]*
Anyways I think that is another reason why Sephiroth never fully kills Cloud and only just leaves him half dead cus Sephiroth through the life stream realized Cloud was his kid brother.
Plus the way he mistreats Cloud is like a big brother bullying or teasing their younger brother but on a much higher lvl.
So Seph again never kills Cloud cus he knows he is his younger lil brother.
Plus it seems in remake Sephiroth does not even seem ta wanna kill Cloud anymore and actually wants him to join him to defy destiny together as brothers.
Plus the fact that if Cloud dies Seph will probs be bored as fuck without his lil brother being around to tease.

you are awesome, thats why I love watching your content. After I played ff15, I was amazed, sure maybe gamplay was lacking and maybe potenial was wasted (not for me tough, I like it, the way it is), I still loved it and all the meaining behind the decisions they had to do and what a King has to give, sacrafice in praticullar. I also was a fan of it being just a tragic story, with the world being saved but not our main hero. I never felt like that after playing a game. Thats how i found my love to final fantasy games. I watched some older ff games on youtube but not completly. I played og ff7 and watched you play ff7 remake since I didint find it for the pc and I liked to watch how someone who likes the games and knows a lot about it, play it. Pez is one of the few people to grasp the layers and layers of thoughtful and generation inspiring art put into this series.
Even tho Loveless was there from the start in OG, when do you think Square realized the importance of FF7 as a piece of art in the history of not just video games but modern art in general and they started planing the road to the retelling and remake of the original? All of the media that was released between the original game in 1997 and the first part of the remake in 2020 all just adds up so well to the revamped story that they tell now. It is mind boggling thinking that this story that is over 20 years old has evolved into this metaphorical loveletter to itself and keeps us invested into the characters and the world that it is told in.

This concept of the Prisoner - Traveller - Hero makes so much sense.
I'm starting to think that this cycle is the point of "On The Way To A Smile", because characters are either reflecting on their journey (Barrett, Tifa, Nanaki, etc) or in the case of Shin-Ra literally experiencing it in these 2 years. Rufus goes from playing at hero by ordering all resources Seph & Diamond weapon, but stays within his own prison by conforming to the company policy of scapegoating with the botched executions of Tifa & Barrett.
It's the suffering & vulnerability he experiences in OTWTAS that open his eyes to a new perspective. He's suddenly on otherside of the power dynamic he'd been at the top of his whole life & shatters those grand illustrations freeing him to become a real hero in AC. Still is his suave badass way but for more altruistic reasons than before at least 😅 xx
Tifa lived the same journey: she began as a prisoner too, and even in the remake she said the line "I feel trapped", because she is a prisoner from AVALANCHE.
Oh yeah! Tifa feeling trapped line is so fitting!

@@FinalFantasyPeasant She also was the traveler in the sense that she was with Cloud through the entire journey, and was the only one to go with him into the lifestream and his sub-consciousness. And to top it off, she's actually the hero for Cloud himself - since she's the one who basically helps him to stitch his mind back together.

Her being trapped by her anger which causes her to jump into Avalanche only learning that this makes her feel trapped as well because in the end she does not want to hurt people ie her helping that Shinra executive on the train. Trapped between a rock and a hard place.
I love that you look at Final Fantasy for it's spiritual teachings. This is my favourite part of these games.

The 3 Avalanche characters Barret talks about are Fin, Al and Nellie... which could be a nod at "Finale" the end of a script, play or song... I feel like Fin, Al and Nellie are also characters we have met before using an alias to hide their real identity...

Also note that Elmyra waits for her husband to return from War, spends many days awaiting his return and the parralels even there to loveless. Also you didnt make many connextions to Zacks potential roles in the remake and how that can influence this aerith cloud loveless narrative concept, of course given how long that could makw the video. What if the final verse is about Angeal, Zack and Sephiroth all reuniting?
Zack made a promise with aerith and their dream together was 'to fill the world with flowers'. Aeriths only true wish of her own will was to spend more time with Zack, a silent wish probably madeclear to the lifestream. If Aerith's hopes, wishes and dreams in the 7 remake midgar towards the lifestream and timeline manifested Zack's survival and return(act 5 application) then what does that mean for the their coming roles to play and how will the goals of Weiss, Sephiroth and Genesis(Minerva) contrast and meld with the Wills of Cloud, Zack and Aerith?
The story has been spurned tremendously delicately and square enix is at their finest in story telling with no doubt, The Planet, the promises and the characters of the play with the lifestream's willful waters all at stake here, and its truly so exciting. Thanks once again for the amazing videos. Love exploring and doing these synaptic net dives with the story here.
Also queue in Lucrecia's existence, Vincent's protomateria and BugenHagens wisdom and leadership- with alll the weapons, including Sapphire, Diamond, Jade, and Omega,etc all present in the story as of -rightnoww! Chances are diamond and sapphire will not end like how in the original with Shinra, also proud clod and the remaining nordic interpretations, space missions and last but not least Meteor purpose in the 5th act. Marvelous!

Dude-- as usual, you blew my mind. The analysis of all characters going through the stage of Prisoner to Traveler to Hero is great and something I've been pondering myself as well. I think in Sephiroth's situation, he might be the only one who is going through it in reverse though. I do think this is the 5th and final act-- which means this is all post DoC. Considering how the devs are also on their last stretch when it comes to large projects, this may also be their last love-letter to their fans.
Small note on the Weiss thing-- technically Weiss would be locked in Deepground during OG since this is indicated in DoC PlayOnline. Weiss, Nero, and Rosso would technically be locked right now-- and the only way they can be bound is if the Restricters are present. Weiss isn't free or merging with Omega until DoC so this still lines up as far as we know from Intermission. But of course that has yet to be seen.

27:00 I think the “don’t fall in love with me” was not only to spare Cloud of his suffering but also to make things easier for herself.
I also agree with Sephiroth and Aerith being oposite forces, in on the way to smile their stories are lifestream white (Aerith) and life stream black (Sephiroth), also that novel refers to Cloud as Aerith beloved so I don’t think it’s platonic love.

Perhaps this relates to multiples entities. The descending goddess could be Jenova, the wings of darkness, Sephiroth, Genesis, perhaps even Meteor. The wings of light could relate to Minerva, Aerith, the Lifestream itself, perhaps. Multiple guides to multiple ends, both claiming to offer bliss. Just a thought.
"Wings of light" makes me think of the summon Alexander. Specifically, that famous scene where he fights and defeats Bahamut in FFIX.
I think it’s amazing that you sat in ceremony with Aya and can compare what you integrated [pun well intended] with this game. As an avid final fantasy fan since young age and sitting with many plant medicines, studying esoteric wisdom and ancient mystery schools, it’s almost evident how many parallels we can draw from these topics to this game. In fact, I would say it was because of playing this game and learning many esoteric terms and concepts that initially propelled me into these subjects as I grew older. cheers

I always noticed it was the Loveless sign that dropped on Rude, but it's nice seeing an actual picture of the woman of the play. It does look like Aerith, but for a moment I thought it was Lucrecia, lol. Thinking about it, it's a similar tragedy she undergoes with her relationship with Vincent, but she ends up disappearing on him rather than the other way around.

Pez, Thank you for this great video especially when talking about the prisoner, traveller and hero theory in promise. When you talked about Sephiroth, do you think in remake, his role of prisoner is he is in the role of death since he is not in the current world, so he need to become a time-traveler , so he can find a body to try to become a hero into the real world again?

Great theory! I really enjoy hearing your thoughts and theories on these things in FF7. It's hard to find anyone truly invested and won't just scoff at anything Genesis, Loveless, Dirge of Cerberus or anything pass the original PS1 game. Personally, always loved it for what it is.
you might want to check the jp dialogue cause as you know this game also suffers misstranslations like the final scene aerith says i hate this sky and not i miss the steel sky
Could you/anyone help me find the source for the mistranslation claim about the Cetra travelling between continents versus planets? That's probably a minor thing in the grand scheme of things, but it completely changes the way I think about the Cetra thematically, so I'd like to be sure.

I like the longer theory videos all this stuff about interpreting life I love hearing it and this series is very loved. I just hope nomura.. somehow gets sneaky.. and brings up that fight cloud and seph where having in the KH universe. and give that closure as well. in that cannon. Tifa gave her light to cloud to ward sephs influence off. I just wonder did any of that relate to anything or is it just a meet cute scene that normally wouldnt have happened

It occurs to me that nifl means mist and is a cognate of various words in other IndoEuropean languages... including nebula in Latin and nephos in Greek... both meaning cloud... and heim means home I believe... so it could be argued that Nibelheim means 'home of Cloud' ... make of that what you will. :-)

It really amazes me how deep and spiritual ff7 can be, Nomura and Square Enix really make more than just "a game for entertainment purposes", it's so much more than that. There is a real way of thinking being it, and a lot of things like "the curse of individualisation" and the fact that humans are "prisoners to their love of home" etc... Are also true in reality.
It really makes me think a lot. It's sad that a lot of people don't try to see past the fact that "Oh but it's just a game for children, grow up, etc.." thing. It's so much more than that.
This happens a lot with Kingdom hearts too, just because it has Disney characters in it doesn't mean that there isn't more in it and that's it's just a "game for children".
It makes me happy to see that there are people like you who try to understand the whole meaning of ff7 and others video games.
LOVELESS is and will always be my favorite poem, that's for sure. It's actually thanks to it that I started to write poetry!

I don't know the lore of Crisis Core or such, so I don't know if there is a relation to the purple and yellow flower.
I like also that there was a side quest where zack, and a wutai soldier had a heart to heart talk before the wutai died but I little bit forgetting it but it some what zack ask his self why it had to be like this...
During the pillar segment, Tseng says "the more players take the stage the better" which is another theater-based reference.
I had recently rewatched ACC and was looking back at Loveless after realizing how Aerith's new song also had parts that connected back to play that was told from the woman's pov, then remembered your video! I'm with you all the way on this one FFP!
I really think you should make a new video analyzing this further with Aerith's song!
I understand that you've always saw Aerith as the mentor/guide figure for Cloud but with all these references and build up don't you think it humanizes Aerith and Cloud more to feel romantic love for each other? It makes all the moments she spends with him more beautiful and really shows that as long you care for someone, that's enough? People can see it clearly for Tifa's love, but it seems that when it comes to Aerith, she's kinda put on this goddess like pedestal. I feel that as a person, her love wound up enduring even death and showed just how powerful her bond with Cloud truly is. It's as Cloud said, she never truly left their side.
41:00 I just noticed something, Pez. Related to everything you say at this timestamp... consider chapter 2 of Remake, when you listen to the people around you... a lot of them are expressing anguish and anger due to their MATERIALISTIC loss.
i want to go ahead and say it, i mentioned it on Ray Coffmans channel (solid dude def check him out) but i think weiss in intergrade may be a retcon for the final fight with the harbinger and sephiroth due to backlash and also because if you fought sephiroth at the end of part 1 and 'defeated' him then where do they go from there because theres no fitting boss for part 2.
also i think someone has to die it eithre has to be jessie or aerith because if not theres no consquences and itd be spitting on the theme of the original which was done because one of squares heads had just lost a parent and wanted to instill that death is forever
plus if sephiroth avoids killing aerith to avoid her being in the lifestream to go alongside holy then she will most likely have to sacrifice herself even if she doesnt want to die, although it could be said that other ancients/cetra could go that route i.e. ifalna or perhaps marlene or even other hidden/alive/dead ancient ancients haha

I really do recommend you take a look at the story of Xenogears sometime. The idea of Individuation, Jung/Gnostic themes about God, spirituality, and oneness with the universe are heavy and powerful in that game. Also it was one of the original pitches for FF7. I love the game and consider it to be one of the greatest stories in all of gaming.

It's said that Loveless is an ancient Cetran text, an epic poem. Based on its story, I assume it was written after the Cetra-Jenova War. My bet is it was Minerva who wrote it, as sort of a prophecy (and because she is based on the Roman goddess of war and art).

But it has potential to go as far as spirits within , final fantasy has some of the best graffics and fun quests. A way to replace time from other things.
