    Thanks to mum for such a wonderful gift. It was so interesting watching to tree turn into the planks. My grandpa was a lumber grader in Beliz when I was a kid. He inspected hardwood and softwood species to determine dimension, grade, and other qualities. His work always seemed like a lot of homework to me. You got a lot done in 2 years Jael. You determination is to admired.

    Oh I just love the village for the fact that people are never too busy to stop and say hello... even a little chat and laughter for a few minutes. It's just a cozy feeling. Makes me homesick 😊

      I was about 10 years old when mum planted these trees. I remember so well. She brought them home in a basin. There was an NGO giving them for free. Decades down the line,I get free timber.

    Of course there are saw mills that use band saws, wheel saws etc. but you have to transport the logs there. Besides, your eucalyptus logs are kind of “stubborn” wood that needs milling while freshly cut”

    At my place we sell the sawdust which is used for outside cooking with a jiko. Those who might not have cash exchange their labour by thinning the branches 🌻

    I was thinking about the sawdust and what it could be used for. Maybe place it where you have the puddles on your property and use as a mulch. That same area you could plant more trees and/or hedges.

    Some major logging businesses mix saw dust with glue and form a type of "wood" which is more affordable. Much of the furniture available in big countries is made from this

    The answer is Yes they are better machines but this guy is very skilled with a chainsaw but because the blade is thicker you end up wasting more wood.

    About the saw dust, so good if you had chicken to keep them warm in this rainy season.
    For the branches of hardwood tree you will make charcoal that can last you a while and that is savings too.
    Dad planted the tree, mum donated, right 😂😂.
    Keep going.

      Hi Jael. I love watching your videos. They are very resourceful. I also moved to live in the village in 2012 . I also do some farming. Especially fruit trees. Saw dust can used as fuel. There are special Jiko’s that use saw dust. Ask around. Those village ladies might know that.

    To answer your question about the machines used for this project, yes, they are big machines that minimise waste; however, they are used in factory settings. I wouldn't call that waste; you can mix it with manure to keep your plant healthy and moist; it is also a natural weed killer and perfect for storing root vegetables.

      @Crabtree-xh1zr, this is not eucalyptus. It is a bluegum tree. It doesn't have the sweet scent of eucalyptus, but their leaves are quite similar.

      Those are Eucalyptus. The species of Eucalyptus found in Kenya have their origin in Australia. People like them for timber. They are not good if you want to conserve water in your land.

    No, please don't cut down trees, it takes years for them to mature in that stage plus they make the village look beautiful, it brings rain etc...plant 10 more trees for cutting this one.

      I have planted many more,and the thing about bluegum tree is that the stamp will bloom into more trees.

    Using bluegum timber frame before it sheds off it's moisture results the same becoming disoriented afterwards.
    While on the same, eucalyptus trees are but an environmental disasters, sucks-up all the water dry , seasonal rivers in the long run vanishes.
    Indigenous trees are the real deal when replacing.
    All in all.. Congratulations and keep the wheel spinning. 👊
