I don't think it's any coincidence that in the mere span of about 20 years (pre-internet days until now) so many of us are burning out. It's just not a natural way for humans to live and so many of us are craving those pre-internet days of simplicity and natural pace. I NEVER remember, as a child growing up in the 80s, talk of hustle culture or my mom being crazily busy. We did not spend a ton of time together but she was there...present. We were free to be kids outside while my mom spent time at home canning, sewing, etc. This traditional life was really not that long ago and I miss it. It's beautiful and natural.
As a young GenZ person, I wish regularly for a life like that. I don’t remember a time without computers, phones, and the Internet. But honestly, even though all the information available on the Internet is amazing, sometimes I wish it didn’t exist. Just watching films and documentaries from before the 90s, and hearing the life experiences of people who lived before then, it sounds so much less rushed and stressful and busy. Even just the fact that the Internet allows us to know about everything that’s going on in the world… We all are so much more aware of SO MUCH more negative news and awful stories than people were a few decades ago. And yet, I can’t really just “give up” the Internet entirely myself. My job requires Internet access. Does communicating with friends and far away family members these days. I just wish some things were the way they were several decades ago.
Go back a hundred years and look at the kind of work schedules men kept. The grind has been around for a while. Worker's rights, socialist revolution for a better future.
@milo_thatch_incarnate I thought that too, but it turns out I can just leave my phone at home and go out or turn it off as soon as I'm done working. I can contact/message my overseas friends in 20 mins before bed & can turn off my phone when I meet friends. The internet is optional and the decision to connect disconnect is instant.
I'm a new mom of a 10 month old son. In the early months, I experienced panic attacks. The amount of information out there is still overwhelming, but I'm grateful when I find content like this, and I'm grateful for your emphasis on what matters, especially faith. Thank you.
You're welcome, Julie! I'm so sorry to hear about the challenges you experienced in the early months of parenting. I remember feeling completely blindsided by the transition to motherhood. I'm so passionate about supporting moms in the early stages of motherhood. I'll never tell anyone that motherhood and homemaking are easy, but they can be simplified to make aspects easier and to give us more time and energy for what really matters - relationship with God, our partners, our children and our community.
As a minimalist homeschooling mom of a 9 and 11 year old (and a big fan of Simplicity Parenting and Comer's book!) I've found this becomes much more complicated as the children age. The societal and peer pressure to have your children in various activities, even on the Sabbath, to acquire gadgets and toys and video games, becomes a very real force against slow, holy and whole-hearted living. The more you can be grounded in your "whys" - your convictions on why this lifestyle is the best for you and your children's psychological, physical and ultimately spiritual well-being - the stronger you can stand against these mounting pressures and just say to your kids "we don't do that in our family". Thanks for your research and thoughtfulness in providing some very important "whys".
You’re welcome! I hope the video and research that went into it can support families. And I think you made some good points about the unique challenges we can expect as our kids get older.
Plus teens actually get bored. Little kids can live like this and enjoy it. Older children want to join clubs and play football, swim, do karate. Feel like they belong.
@@lindsayD-d9h maybe we teach them that it is importend to belong? What would be the reason we need to belong? Why can't we be complete without this feeling. ❤
The relationships and the "village" is what so many of us are missing raising kids. Growing up in the 90s, I was really the last of that generation. Most of my memories are playing outside and with my sibling. We were never bored. My two kids were 2 and 7 months when covid hit. I feel like they were robbed of so much of those experiences I fondly remember from my childhood. Our community we lived in was closed off and people got nasty and self-centered. Last summer we moved to an absolutely wonderful community that shares our values. We have a church, friends, and neighbors that all look out for each other. My kids play in the street with all the neighbors. They jump from yard-to-yard. This is what I wanted for them ❤ It makes me sad that these communities are so hard to come by now. Everyone is living in isolation.
That's what I'm looking for ... looking for that place to raise the little ones in, a place where they can be kids, play outside, get in touch with nature and similarcommunity. Can I ask where you moved to?
That really is wonderful that you were able to find that! I've been hearing more and more stories like this. Of people and communities that are trying to preserve "the neighborhood" popping up all over - even in the suburbs! Makes me so inspired to see folks finding solutions to fit their lives.
That’s how we found our wonderful church. We didn’t want to be in a complicit church. Or a complacent church. We found a courageous church that never closed and have never been in such a fabulous authentic whole hearted community! 🩵🩵🩵
Just finished watching every second of this. And as a pretty ADHD-leaning hyperactive dad, thank you. This was a treat. It was majorly eye opening, and I’m excited to wake up tomorrow at half speed. Thank you.
I like your statement about how each generation isn’t meant to reinvent or relearn parenting. From one hand there is comfort in age old wisdom. From the other hand, the way it’s always been done isn’t always the best way, depending on where you come from, the family you were raised by. So then you have to look for a better way. Additionally, some of the older ways have been lost in this modern world, as you explain, so we have to rediscover them. At the same time, we have to adapt the wisdom of the old ways to modern life. For example, so many of us would love to live in the countryside or even a suburb, in a house, but it’s just not affordable. We have to struggle just to pay the rent in small apartments, while still trying to provide a good childhood for our kids. Either way though, I think that at least aiming to slow down, is the right way to go.
Your videos are so intentional and well put together. I feel like I’ve gotten more insight from two of your videos than a hundred content creator moms put together 😂 So thankful there are moms like you out there who also love Jesus, encourage minimalist and meaningful family lifestyles and love to dig into the research 🙌 ❤
OMG, I loved this video the best so far, friend. I also love that your sister uses the term "dead face" when dealing with kids misbehaving. That is such a good term for it, and I employ it regularly with my son. I didn't think it would work, but it really does. We also talk a LOT about respect and trust and recognition of how others are being treated or how you treat others. These are part of our conversations with him when he is misbehaving toward us or others. In the end, I have found that these are the core values that he is grappling with or doesn't recognize in his behavior, and we like to talk about how what he does can and will affect others whether he realizes it or not. It is all about noticing that you are in a community (e.g., family, classroom, street corner, restaurant, etc.) and that noticing how you can affect others while also regulating your own feelings is all part of being human.
I LOVE this! Helping kids understand their role within a community and their effect on others is crucial. I’d love to know more about how you have these conversations.
My husband and i read Hunt, Gather, Parent out loud to each other while i was pregnant with our baby boy. Now that he's a new toddler, we plan to read it through again. It's just so good and we know our pre-parent brains and parent brains will glean different facets.
I love that! It really is one of the best parenting books I’ve read. I appreciate that the strategies in it are time tested. If they didn’t work they wouldn’t have been passed down through the generations.
you are so lucky that your husband does that with you, my man has no time and also says he has no time for those things, so even if He has some free time to spare, he would not spend it on some educational psychological family stuff, then he rather plays games and watches TV when he has some free time... so I really cannot imagine how many men get so deeply involved with their women, I like to think not many, that yours is rather an exception... Maybe he has some other minuses there, that of course is not the debate here, but just for us women/mothers that are alone in this (not single moms but still alone in this if you know what I mean) to know that every man that for example involves himself in this part, has it's negative sides that make him not so ideal as a husband and father... It is also such a plus that he wants to and gets to involve himself, because if I imagine it so, you probably have much less arguments on things, specially on parenting. We have a lot of times different aspects on this and because we dont really get to talk, sadly, there comes to czzz czzz very often, I cant really help it, or.. maybe can I, could some one give me an advice? If i start talking him into some conversations, and im being gentle and kind, im not pushy because this would work contradictory, as soon as he has enough, he would start almost yelling at me, because I am in his opinion making it hard on him and things like that.. He likes to say sometimes, yes you know everything.. but not in a calm way.. I would feel so blessed if he for once did what I do and told me some things, his opinions etc... He only shares his opinion as he argues or feels pressure. All i want is to be able to talk in peace, but it ends up pretty ugly for all of us, and I try to not cowork in this fight because I have zero energy for this, and on the first place because our little daughter is with us, we are never alone because he is actually never at home when our daughter is in kindergarden, and it doesn't help if I keep saying, i dont want to go there into a fight specially when our daughter is around... But he then cant control himself, and he says it's all my fault if she has to hear everything... I must say here, he is a good father to her, has his own ways but they love each other...
and I havent been able to find a RUclips channel with a similar story to mine, like.. I see many single moms, but the other half is the happy coparenting lovely marriage.. none of those help here. because to a single mom i cannot relate of course, it is a much different thing to be on your own and have to do everything by yourself and work extra hours to be able to survive, but still you have this peace, what I would so appreciate, nobody will argue you, you can save your energy for you and your kids.. this is so important! And me on the other side, I get his help at home, although he is not much at home, in comparison to me, I work 20 hours a week, he takes our daughter to the playground in our neighbourhood.. But I literally cant breathe with full lungs when he is around.. or before he comes home all tired because he has got 2 jobs now, we have to save money, and I cant control my mind, i think about what is going to bother him as he comes and so... because there can never be all perfect, clean appartement, ready lunch... Please dont give any advice like "go separate ways" or "you are not being thankful", because this is not what I am looking for.
@@Sim_L i would recommend you look into Oren Jay Sofer and his communication classes. I imagine your husband may not be willing to take this, but you could and it may help.
If you like Hunt Gather Parent, you might want to check out respectful parenting books (eg. No Bad Kids) and Montessori resources (eg. The Montessori Toddler). Although the HGP author makes it seem like only traditional cultures possess these parenting skills, they are fundamental to Montessori and respectful parenting.
This is so beautifully done and so needed. As techie, gamer people and now with our kids being in an online school, our family has had a hard time reducing our screen time. This has inspired me to make some changes moving forward.
Great topic and video. You are so right about all that you have said. A wise woman once asked me “how to you spell love?” T-I-M-E is what she spelled. So simple yet so profound. Children don’t want things. We foolishly think more “things” will make a more happier child. But it’s quite the opposite. It’s time that’s most valuable. There’s just so much to be said on the topic. Love how you put this together for all the mothers out here.
Normally I would skip this kind of video after only a few seconds. But I am desperate for a change and exploring outside of my box has always been where I have found gold. Initially I thought this is another insta mom , with pretty video and patronizing slow quiet talking. But honestly the more I listened(i seldom have time to actually watch) the more I was drawn to the content and now I'm about to play it for a second time so I can catch all the bits I missed while running after the baby and arguing with my kids about cleaning up their room and getting dressed after their bath... Thank you!
My sister keeps joking that she’s gonna create a spoof version of my channel. I’m gonna have to suggest her bio says, “Just another Insta mom with pretty video and patronizing, slow, quiet talking.” 😂 In all seriousness though, I hope you found value in the video and good luck in your exploration!
I almost didn't watch it because it is so much quieter than most other videos on RUclips. My advice is strictly technical. I suggest you learn how to match your volume to other videos. There are plenty of videos that will teach you how to do this. Look up normalizing audio. Good luck!
So happy I came across your channel. My 11 year old son struggled going into a public middle school so I switched him to home schooling and wow what a change. Changing the pace away from that strict hustle, he has actually made more progress in his learnings and motivation is reflected. He went from daily anxiety to happiness. The hardest part was if I made the right decision and I don’t regret it after seeing the results. ❤ thank you for your book references, I will look into them.
That little boy is so cute. I assume you don't just do this for your videos, but it's something I believe in too. Involving my little 3 year old in everything I do. He gets in the way and everything takes longer, but he learns so much.
It’s not always easy when they’re little. Often dish washing turns into my daughter washing her hair in the sink or my son completely soaking the floor. 😂 But I’ve found it essential to parenting. Anytime we’re having behavioral issues or a child is acting up, I invite them to help. Shifts things right away!
I really do appreciate this perspective on parenthood. I love learning about my faith as a catholic, as a therapist and artist , but those first few years in my children’s life I’m taking it very slow and staying home with them. I’m naturally sensitive and very introverted, it means a lot to us as parents that we provide a slow stress-free environment where they can just be children, locate their strengths and work on the abilities they’ll need later on (though no pressure at their very young ages). These small moments with my children where I’m attentive to their ideas and their desire for my love and attention means a lot to me because it means even more to them. I tell them how much I love and appreciate them very sincerely. It may seem over the top, but I want my children to believe their voices matter and that they have traits that make them a credit to society.
The ruthless elimination of hurry changed my life and I’ve heard you reference John mark comer’s teaching in your videos. As an expecting momma I found your video at the perfect time. Thank you for the thoughtfulness you put in your videos and giving us the permission as a modern woman to just be and live a simple life. So excited to try some of your simplifying hacks.
Beautiful intro to slow living. In Singapore the hustle culture is prominent and intense for families. Every Sat parents send kids to various activities, after school there are other classes. It’s rush here and there. Definitely see parents stressed and some yelling at their kids for being slow. And it’s hard to get out of this culture unless reflective and intentional- where is the beauty of childhood… Thanks for sharing all this. Also inspired to declutter this week.
Oh my gosh I cannot tell you how happy I am to have landed here. I am pregnant with my first child and already very into a minimalist lifestyle so this approach to parenting is exactly what I’m looking for. Thank you for this thoughtful video! I’ve subscribed and look forward to enjoying your content! 💜
Thank you so much! I’m so happy it’s helpful and resonating. There’s much to come! I felt like I could’ve expanded on each of these subjects for hours 😂 Had to hold myself back.
Hi Erika, I’m grateful your video came up as a recommendation. I too observe and think about what are current culture is like, especially the sub culture of stay at home moms. And I find myself riding these waves as well and it brings no joy. I’ve been reminded of the story when Jesus visits Mary and Martha, and we tend to follow in the ways of Martha by busyness, rather than cultivating relationships with those near us and with Christ.
I am only on minute 13 but wow… I need to leave a comment already… 🥹 This video is so good! ❤️ Thank you. You did an amazing job 🙏 I used to visit Simone Davies ´s montessori playgroup in Amsterdam with my girl when she was a toddler. I always left the place full of motivation, energy, calmness, sense of peace ☀️ I feel the same from watchimg your video today. Thank you
Thank you for this video! I feel like me and my family desparately need to slow down, so your video was in a way God’s send. I ordered the books you reccomend as well. I have 2 kids 3 and 6yo and they were trapped in this to be occupied by TV and the super busy life. I was constantly overwhelmed and anxious. Now during the summer holidays I am amazed by their creativity and ability to enjoy just being kids without the social pressure to attend multiple classes and compete with their peers. I hope we can implement some of the rules for simple living. Thank you for the great video again😊
Wow this was the most coziest, warmest most relaxed video i have ever seen i totally agree with slow living taking care of oneself and not participating in the hustle culture! Love it!!
Oooooooh that struck me right in the heart when you said the reason for making your video the way you did. There's a mama out there who needs a road map to transforming her family's life. First video I've ever seen from you. Thank you God for delivering this very important video to me and thank you mama for making it. God bless you 🙏 ♥
I thank God so much , that he gave you this knowledge, and thank u as well for sharing , God has been calling us to go for country living, and showing us the charm of simplicity in life. And I am a stay at home mom struggling with busyness , since I want to do everything at the same time, doing one chore thinking on the next and the guilt of failing to do all my chores, and I have an 11 year old baby, but through the steps you provided I can see my surroundings again, it feels like "I was blind but now I see"😄
I am hoping to get pregnant soon and have been consuming pregnancy and parenting videos, and this is one I know I will continue to rewatch. Such good sentiments about slow living for any stage of life, but also about how to infuse it in parenting philosophy and practice. This felt so relevant and helped me with that "road map" you mentioned, as this video outlines so many thoughts Ive had into a cohesive story. Thank you for the time and energy it took to make this. ❤
Incredibly profound and touching. I will be re-watching this. This really struck a cord in my heart in how much I want my values to be integrated in my daily life. I often feel a parallel between the two worlds..my deepest values and how I conduct and coordinate my day to day with my child. This gives so much permission to not be perfect, but to be intentional. Thank you.
"To not be perfect, but to be intentional" could be the tagline for this channel! I love that this video was helpful and struck just the right cord. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks, as a stay at home dad and part timer I've tried to figure out how to organize my day while providing a nurturing and peaceful home like I experienced. This has been very helpful.
I watched this video after a breakdown and it sat me back to harmony. The quality and message is beautiful, great job! This is the type of life we started to form with my husband for our kids. The village part really missing, we try our best to keep balanced and have a positive attitude!
Bless you and thankyou from the Nana who is helping raise her grandbaby. That last look at the end of the video when you wrapped the blanket round you and you turned round was like, yes its possible. Love and hugs dear friend xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
This is simply the most amazing video I’ve watched on slow living - and I’ve seen loads. Before I even knew about this movement I was craving it and putting it into practice for myself and my children. Since then I’ve searched on here and found so many people doing the same thing. I always felt like I should be doing more with my children, but I never liked following everyone and big crowds. This has made it ok for us to live this way of life and remove the guilt. Thankyou so much ❤
I was planning on listening to this while I cooked, but seeing the first couple minutes, I realized I have to sit down and properly watch this video. Your editing is so beautiful, so relaxing, and so well done I just want to enjoy it, like I would a good film. Well done! I’m a 24-year-old wife, looking forward to being a homeschooling stay at home mom soon, and I want to practice this kind of life with my kids so much. Thank you for the inspiration!
I so appreciate this video and the message throughout it. It’s evident you took the time to be intentional about this topic and your thoughtful approach was refreshing. Thank you! Can’t wait to continue to see the content you share with us.
This. This is what I needed today❤️ thank you for this video!! I’ve been struggling with slow parenting and feeling alone in it. This was worth waiting for. My heart feels lighter ❤️
Thank you! I am actually just recovering from adrenal fatigue. I was on a busy lifestyle with kids for 8 months last March- Oct. and busted my health. It was something I never did before and I thought I could make it. Nope. So getting back to a simpler life and mindset. I will review this video. Thank you.
Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry that happened. I've heard from multiple women that their health crashed as a result of taking on too much. I notice it in myself, even after just a couple days of operating at too fast a pace. You are in my prayers and I hope this video can offer some help and support along the way.
So grateful this came up in my feed today. My soul needed to hear this. Side note: Chasing Redbird is one of my favorite books. Named one of my daughters Zinnia. ❤ Such a beautiful, story. My eldest just read it for the first time, and it struck me in discussing it with her how many lessons I missed when I was younger.
So much fun to revisit childhood favorites as an adult! I can’t wait to share Sharon Creech books with my daughter. I love that you named one of your daughters after the character!
Thank you for a great video. I love the simplicity parenting book. I will continue to watching your channel in hopes of more values aligned with the book that I have forgotten over time.
I really find all of these beautiful recommendations challenging, if not impossible, as a single mom who works outside the home and has a child with multiple appointments throughout the week. Without a partner (or any family nearby) or the flexibility of being at home, I feel crazed and so busy I could cry. These ideals seem so far out of reach for me yet they are exactly what I desire.
It sounds like you have an especially heavy responsibility to carry. I can only imagine the marathon of raising a child alone and with no consistent support. I think we have to start from the reality of our circumstances and make small changes within our control. If what you can provide is a simplified home, even if it takes a year of slowly chipping away one drawer/shelf/cabinet at a time, a simplified home can give back enormous amounts of time and energy. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are many people in the world who are looking for ways to give back. You’re doing beautiful work caring for and sacrificing for your child. You’re in my prayers.
I have been on an active journey figuring out how to parent my children. A lot of what you mentioned sounded quite a bit like waldorf. Which is the parenting style I have been leaning towards. You gave me several tangible ideas of what I can do to start of. Thank you for that!
You’re welcome! I’ve never actually studied Waldorf, but my sister works in a Waldorf school and we consult each other a lot in our parenting. So I’m not too surprised to hear you say that!
Just such a beautiful video. Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and sharing your heart. My husband and I just started reading Simplicity Parenting together, and I will be watching this video with him, too!
thank you for this thoughtful and well done video. I think this is a video I will be watching many times and taking more away from it each time. It's a journey to being better, for ourselves and our children.
This video is beautiful and powerful. I found myself taking notes, I love that it is realistic and not just the picture perfect. As a mom of 2 young children I appreciate and love what you have to say here, thank you!
Thank you for this refreshing perspective. Slow living is something I crave but I have a difficult time finding that pace with my family of five. There always seems to be pressure to take advantage of every social , extra curricular , and educational opportunity for my children. As a new homeschooling mom, I am finding that I NEED to say no to so much more than I say yes to. Our schedule gets so overwhelming otherwise… and then my peace and calm goes out the window! I resonate with your views and truly appreciate the time and care you took to make this video. It is encouragement that I needed. It has shown me that this way of life is in fact realistic and completely attainable.
Thank you for sharing! I love to hear that the content is resonating. A good rule of thumb when slowing down is to experiment. Try cutting back in one place and see how it affects you and the family. Make adjustments as you learn more. I also run a lot of ideas past my husband. He has a strong sense of how much we can take on while still preserving peace.
Thank you ❤ I’m happy to see that our thoughts align. I’m a happy mom of two who decided to put her children first before the hustle culture. My daughter is such a picky eater. Could you create some content on what your children eat? I appreciate you 🫶🏻
You’re so kind! I’m glad we got connected here. I’d like to get back into doing a monthly vlog so I’ll try to cover their food in one. For now I can tell you it’s simple stuff: fruit, some veggies, egg sandwiches, quiche, burgers, cheese, crackers, applesauce, and yogurt. I might be missing some stuff but those are their favorites and what they eat 90% of the time.
I feel the hard work, care, time and attention you put into this video. It's very much appreciated & I'll will rewatch! Also, I've been subscribed since the beginning, so glad to see you are continuing to create content and excited for the next videos. ❤
I can’t watch it in one go but I already know I’ll watch often and an instant subscriber. We’re on our summer holiday right now and my kids just want to stay home. I’ve cancelled everything but a little road trip. My bug kid starts school soon, and I need the time to get clear on how we want to do things
Yep this video is kind of a beast of information. I’ll need to break the approaches down and do smaller videos covering each topic. Excited to have you here! And good luck with considering next steps. That’s amazing that you listened to your kids’ Interests for the holiday.
Thanks for this brilliant video. Will share with young parents. I’ve been watching an Iranian, hunter gatherer nomadic single mom’s journey on RUclips. She is often criticised by westerners for not conforming to hygiene practices. However the life, emotional and social development of the three young children surpasses any western children I have met and since living in a western country for more than 50 years. Whats worse, break up between children and grandparents is becoming a trend, that may please the parent, but sadly is detrimental to child development
So happy to get this video in my feed thanks a lot it really calms you down and let think our kids need us not the toys games cartoons they need us but sadly we are over bombarded with the concept of entertainment for all of us including kids entertainment is spending time together and being able to see each other
I’ve never seen this channel before This video almost had me in tears. How do I get there? I know my child will thrive in routine and more structure. I know I should compliment and praise less, I want my child to know Gods love, I know she would be better if I did ‘X, Y, and Z’ It’s so hard to start. I guess I should start with the declutter. Ay yi yi. Thanks for this video 😬
Thank you, Laurie! I think the downside of a video like this is it can cause overwhelm to see all the steps laid out in 30 minutes. These certainly weren’t accomplished in 30 minutes! I also know that decluttering made everything in life so much simpler that it gave me capacity to think about everything that followed. You can do this!
Thank you for this! Such a thoughtful and well made video, it really helped me to think about what kind of mum I want to be. I can’t imagine the time and effort that must have gone into the making of this!
Priority to personal hygiene in the morning ! Oh my God I need advices here. I'm doing it all at night when I'm exhausted and trying to fins ways to negociate (yes, negociate) with myself to DO IT on mornings 🌩️
Wonderful video. You've got such a lovely calming voice! I'm hoping to hear more on how to manage tantrums and other difficult situations with children. You alluded that there might be a video coming on that subject? Or did I just make that up 😃
You didn’t make it up! It’s an important subject and I couldn’t cover it thoroughly enough in this video. Thank you for mentioning it. It’s something I definitely want to cover.
Thank you so much for this video! I have already simplified my life a lot. But as a mom of a highly sensitive child, things can get very challenging at times. And so far, I have found very little information about slow motherhood. God bless!🤍
You are so welcome! I can't wait to dive more deeply into this subject in future videos. :) Let me know if there are any specific topics or areas of slow motherhood you'd like to learn more about.
Love your style and your videos! You are kind of like bit more well rounded version if me 😅🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ (attempting all you are talking about, I even have the same lovevery educational Montessori toys you do 😅🤷🏻♀️). And yes we do have the chickens and bake the bread lol. But no chance I would sweep the patio 😅😂.
Very good job with this video. It’s all stuff we “know” but knowing and doing are different. I plan to read the books you mentioned and make many of these things a priority with my 2 year old. Also like the idea of TV being the tool integrated. I don’t want to totally say no screens when there are good educational shows and animals and fun things to watch as a family. It’s all about intention. Thank u!
@@papertownhome This video was incredibly valuable. I love the part where you talked about learning to stand on the shoulders of giants instead of re- inventing the wheel. Your philosophy is solid. One I will gladly adopt the day I have children, Thank you.
I don’t know where you live (I’m assuming in New England) but it’s gorgeous! I’m so jealous of the parks your showing and all that grass and trees. I live in the SW and it’s a desert here 🌵so no grass like that! I’m a new follower as the videos I’ve watched on your channel have been great and I hope to make some big changes because of them. Thanks!
I really enjoyed this video and got a lot from it. I would love if you broke down the steps even more in their own videos like you suggested. Thank you
Absolutely! Going forward this channel will be getting into the subtopics of each category addressed in this video. This video is the road map, but it's a broad overview of what's to come!
Thank you for your content in this video, I just found you just subscribed and I have been thinking about these kinds of parenting concepts for the past 7 years of being a mother, and I have taught in a Montessori school and have enjoyed the counter-cultural way of leading children. I still struggle with it feeling difficult, mostly because I feel that I lack the resources to be the kind of present mom that I want to be. I wish I could be a homemaker but I have to work full-time. That is frustrating to me, makes me feel that I cannot be present. It makes me feel like I cannot achieve the dream of having another child and being able to care for that child. The way that I know I want to and should. These things are the modern frustrations of being a mom today. I still want to be able to contribute to our finances, and have work that I'm proud of doing. But motherhood is definitely my first ambition and the most meaningful role to me, I know that it shapes my families entire worlds. Thank you again 🙏 Signed, a grasping mom
Oh my goodness. I definitely understand this push and pull. I'm currently only working part time, but I often wonder how long I'll be able to pull that off. I feel that responsibility to be contributing to my family's opportunities by providing financially as well as being present with the kids. It's 100 percent the push and pull felt by so many modern moms. What I will say, is that I worked full time for the first three years of my daughter's life. And, the thing that helped me to be present with her, despite having limited time, was a super, simple and decluttered home. As well as daily habits keeping up the home. My time with her was limited, but those practices enabled me to make the most of the time I did have. I don't know where you are in the simple and slow journey, but if it's helpful I wanted to share. Also, it sounds like you're an incredibly intentional and loving mom! I notice that I strive to live up to "best practices" in my parenting, but I often fall or fail to do so 100% of the time. In fact, I've started to think about it this way... when I worked in marketing I advocated for my clients to follow best practices in their campaigns. But, for various reasons they didn't always do so. I learned to accept that we could follow best practices 80% of the time and the audience would still be well served. I realize this isn't a perfect analogy for parenting, but I think it allows us some grace as mothers. We are fallible and finite creatures and while it's helpful to know and aim for our ideals, we have to allow the grace for the reality of our circumstances and personal limitations.
My children are a bit older and they start to have more say and influence over what I can achieve in a day. I can plan the day but two other strong minded children often redirect my attention, energy, time availability. I love the simplifying idea though and try weave it into our lives. My 9 year old is recovering from burnout (!) and he’s doing much better, still wears the same clothes each day (clean ones, he has lots of white tops and black jogging bottoms so he doesn’t have to make that decision).
This is such a wonderful and encouraging video. I would love to know more about your personal screen time / use and any boundaries you might have around this. Thank you for your beautiful work.
I’m only 3 minutes in and I love you already! You are hilarious and I am looking forward to hear the rest of your wisdom ❤😊 Your video is beautifully done

@@milo_thatch_incarnate I pray you can create it to some degree for yourself my dear. 🩷
Yes…100%
@@lindsayD-d9h Thats why creating a sense of belonging in your church and lifestyle well before adolescence is key
@@lindsayD-d9h maybe we teach them that it is importend to belong? What would be the reason we need to belong? Why can't we be complete without this feeling. ❤
Homeschooling is illegal in Sweden 😢socialism is evil
“Undeclared war on childhood” 🎉🎉🎉 hit home for real. I see this. I get this. Thank you! You are not alone.

Glad you enjoyed it! So sorry I’m behind in responding to comments!
@@papertownhome I be disappointed by a fast reply on a video about the magic of slowing down, haha. All good! 🙂
Your channel is a breath of fresh air. I’ve been praying for wisdom and you’ve delivered it in such a beautiful but simple way
Thank you so much! I'm so glad it's been helpful.

A wise woman once asked me “how to you spell love?”
T-I-M-E is what she spelled.
I’m gonna have to suggest her bio says, “Just another Insta mom with pretty video and patronizing, slow, quiet talking.” 😂
In all seriousness though, I hope you found value in the video and good luck in your exploration!
Well I listened to your videos on my hour long commute to work and back home today, so it's safe to say I'm hooked.
Thank you for sharing.
I almost didn't watch it because it is so much quieter than most other videos on RUclips. My advice is strictly technical. I suggest you learn how to match your volume to other videos. There are plenty of videos that will teach you how to do this. Look up normalizing audio. Good luck!
Cried a little watching this. Thank you for sharing and showing there’s another way ❤
You’re welcome! 🥰
❤ thank you for your book references, I will look into them.
this video is like a documentary. Exactly what I had been looking for- to be transformed
Thank you for commenting! I’m excited for you and your family!
Beautiful intro to slow living. In Singapore the hustle culture is prominent and intense for families. Every Sat parents send kids to various activities, after school there are other classes. It’s rush here and there. Definitely see parents stressed and some yelling at their kids for being slow. And it’s hard to get out of this culture unless reflective and intentional- where is the beauty of childhood…
Thanks for sharing all this.
Also inspired to declutter this week.

Hi Erika,
I’m grateful your video came up as a recommendation.
I love that perspective! I hadn't even thought of their story, but it's a perfect analogy!
Thank you
Thank you so much! That’s a HIGH compliment. And what an amazing opportunity to learn from Simone!
You’re welcome! All the best to you and your family! It sounds like you’ve already taken some great steps.
Wow this was the most coziest, warmest most relaxed video i have ever seen i totally agree with slow living taking care of oneself and not participating in the hustle culture! Love it!!

Thank you.

@@papertownhome Thank you so, so much for your kind encouragement.

I can only dream of this. I’m def going to try simplify our home, I have to start somewhere and this seems like a good place ❤
This might be one of the most helpful and needed videos I've ever heard.
Thank you!!
LOVE The Lazy Genius!!!!!! This video is such a treasure. Beautiful, beautiful job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you! I love that you're still here! :)
Wow this is a beautiful video and so much for me to think about!! Thank you!!!
One of the most helpful ideologies I heard when trying to mentally feel okay about situational issues was, “it’s okay to go slow.”
This video is food for the soul. You're doing amazing work. Thank you for sharing❤
Thank you! 🥰
The best video of our times. I wish everyone watch it.
Thank you!
@14:37 I drive down this road frequently, what a coincidence I found your video! Thank you for your beautiful and much needed message.
That’s funny! We must be in the same area.
Thank you! I would love to know the name of that channel. It sounds so interesting!
plerd - (small p) there are similar imitation channel
@@fatimakourouche thank you!
Just now getting around to watching this video and it's your best one yet I love it ❤
Thank you! I poured a lot of love into that one.
Wish nothing but the best for you and family going forward ❤
So happy to get this video in my feed thanks a lot it really calms you down and let think our kids need us not the toys games cartoons they need us but sadly we are over bombarded with the concept of entertainment for all of us including kids entertainment is spending time together and being able to see each other
I’ve never seen this channel before
This video almost had me in tears.
How do I get there?
I know my child will thrive in routine and more structure. I know I should compliment and praise less, I want my child to know Gods love, I know she would be better if I did ‘X, Y, and Z’
It’s so hard to start.

Thank you! ❤️🙏
Thank you for this! Such a thoughtful and well made video, it really helped me to think about what kind of mum I want to be. I can’t imagine the time and effort that must have gone into the making of this!
Thank you! I’m so glad it helped. Knowing it’s helping other women makes it worth all the effort that went into the video!
I love your schedule. Thanks for sharing❤
Priority to personal hygiene in the morning ! Oh my God I need advices here. I'm doing it all at night when I'm exhausted and trying to fins ways to negociate (yes, negociate) with myself to DO IT on mornings 🌩️
This is the first video I ever watched from you and I am in awe. ❤
You are so kind!! :) So happy you're here!
This was such a lovely video to come across. You’ve addressed a lot of how I live and want to continue to grow! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for watching! 🥰
Such a wonderful video! Means a lot you wanted to get the video right! I hope you and your family are doing well🤍
Thank you! Hope you’re doing well too!
LOVE this video. Thank you for your perfectly curated take on this. ❤
Thank you for watching!
Thank u!
Absolutely!
The best lifestyle/parenting RUclips video I’ve seen in so long. You deserve so many more subscribers!!! Keep it up I can’t wait to follow along!
Wow, thank you!
2:40 you had me at "I never sweep my porch. ❤😅
Loved all the tips, but yes, they really all need an in depth video. Looking forward to those videos!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to making them :)
Thank you! I’d love to share on that subject. 🥰
I’m so glad I stumbled across your channel ❤

You have such a soothing and calm voice! I wish I could do voiceovers for my silent vlogs but I cringe so hard every time I try to record and listen to my own recorded voice..
Thank you! I love silent vlogs though. They’re so calming and it’s a pleasure to just hear the music and the background sounds.
