- Here's something I've never done before, 2 retrospective reviews at the same time. Today we look at the little known Fantastic 4 movie tie-ins from 2005 and 2007. Appropriately named Fantastic 4 and Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Were they any good?

My brother and I as kids played through the first FF movie game in co-op for a while until getting to a point where we got stuck or lost interest or something and dropping the game for months. One afternoon we decide to get back to the game, play for 45 minutes and hit the credits. It turned out we'd stopped playing on the penultimate level.
One thing I will say, Michael Chiklis is the real deal. He genuinely loves the Fantastic Four.
the 3/10 hit like a truck i swear you were selling me the game leading up to that 😂
lol Yeah it had a lot of potential and I could see what they were going for. unfortunately the game just didn't run very well and felt like a rushed product.
You're not gonna believe me but I was thinking about these two games yesterday! There's a recent influx of "Xbox 360 game prices going up, buy now before it's too late" fear-mongering uploads on RUclips due to the upcoming Marketplace shut down and I have yet to see anyone mentioning Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer for the Xbox 360 and I also rarely see RUclipsrs talk about Fantastic 4 for the Xbox.
Always keep a hold of your physical media for that exact reason.
I played Rise of the Silver Surfer on the Wii. I love the game, amd had a blast playing it!
I just found your channel through this video being recommended to me on my RUclips homepage. I gotta say you have great potential in this space and in regards to your concerns mentioned at the end of the video I think sticking to what you love (retro gaming retrospectives) and continuing to highlight older games is the way to go regardless of viewership. This is because you would be making content you actually want to make and are passionate about and not just doing it because it’s trendy and gets views. People can sense when a video is authentic and made with passion as opposed to the opposite. I know it’s 2 weeks late but I just wanted to add my 2 cents on this matter I subscribed because I liked your video and your perspective and I enjoy revisiting the games of old. Keep up the great work mate I look forward to seeing your channel grow! God bless 🙌🙌🙌
Thanks. Yeah I noticed this video seemed to catch on for some reason lol. God Bless.
Honestly I’m glad this was recommended to me haha.
Honestly, I think retro videos are becoming more relevant now more than ever haha. Modern games would be a cool touch for the channel but I think it would be cool if you did a Spectrobes video 🤣🤣
Keep doing what you're doing!! I just discovered your channel and I'm on a binge, great content!!!
Thanks bro I appreciate it. God Bless.
14k is good Numbers, honestly the only way to pull people in is the algorithm blessing you, Im a new viewer and I just saw the vid I only clicked bc I love marvel and marvel games are a great interest to me especially fantastic four bc at one point they were the biggest marvel team and now there the Wierd 3rd leg of marvel that never gets to touch the ground, I could only suggest doing more obscure marvel games and specifically fantastic four especially since the new movie announcement is creating interest but I can only speak from my perspective and what I would click on.
Oh man speaking of obscure marvel games, there was a fantastic four game released in 2005 for the “Plug n Play” platform which were games you’d buy at the games that came with a joystick and the game would be played on your tv and it would be an arcade side scroller I specifically remember the one they did for the FF as a kid in 2005 it was one of my earliest gaming experiences, I loved that game and miss it dearly
Thanks man I appreciate it. Yeah this video seems to be doing well. Hopefully the other ones catch on too.
While I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that finds these two film severely underrated, especially after that more recent attempt, I wouldn't go as far as to call it BETTER than most modern Marvel movies. Some maybe, but certainly not most.
I think we can all agree that the 2015 version is very bad.
Great vid, keep doing what you're doing. I've seen retro channels do really well so don't give up.
Thanks. This video seems to have caught on so hopefully its a sign of things to come.
This recommendation came to me right when i was looking for a retro gaming channel. It seems like too many channels focus on newer games or they seem like content farms. I really like what youre doing here and i plan on sticking around lol.
Thanks I appreciate the support. God Bless.
Just came across this channel, great video. I mostly watch long form video game and comic book videos. RUclips never recommended this channel, RUclips algorithm is TRASH
Believe it or not I actually still have both of these games on PS2 and I have the second game on my PS2 and my Xbox 360. I’ve always been a huge fan of the fantastic four and I’ve held onto these games and consoles since childhood. It’s so nice to see people finally coming back to it to talk about it. What a time both these games were. I’ve been replaying them these past couple weeks. I’m planning to put an emulator on my PC to play the games so that I can stream and record some content.
I'd say keep doing what you enjoy. Not really a RUclips guy but I'd think even if you get good views, it's probably not worth it if you're not enjoying it. Times had certainly change though I doubt people don't care about retro games anymore (I certainly do). For want it's worth, I enjoyed the video!
Thanks. Yeah it seems like this channel will pretty much stay at the same level regardless of content. I have done a bit of research on the subject and I think the way the algorythm works is a channel will catch on in its early days, and end up with an established fan base that continues to grow over time. However if a channel fails to gain traction early on (mostly due to inexperience and low budget video quality) then it basically becomes blacklisted and will never grow.
I have seen numerous gaming channels come and go over the years and what I have observed is that the ones that get big more often than not have huge financial backing from the very beginning. Meaning they are all in some ways corporate affiliated. I mean think about it when was the last time you saw an independent gaming channel ran by just one guy who didn't have a Patreon and channel members? Plus when you look at their older videos and stuff you never see any indication that they were ever a small channel starting out. Its as if they burst on the scene and were put up the pecking order immediately.
For the time being I will probably just contunue what I'm doing since there are at least a few people who enjoy it, and that's my goal.
Not a fan of Marvel movies or games, but I'm glad your channel is doing quite well. I think it's getting better after this one. Keep up the good work
Thanks. Yeah this video seems to have caught on for some reason lol.
Julian McMahon who portrayed Doctor Doom grew up reading the Fantastic Four comics.
Well the algorithm must be working because I just came across your videos! Keep it up, I like this contebt$
Only you can really decide on what you want to do. I've been seeing a "new to you" tab on the app, and it brought me here. Enjoyed it well enough, but I digress
Thanks.
Keep doing what your doing!!! These videos are awesome 👍👍👍
Thanks. God Bless.
I found this video yesterday so RUclips is still recommending this video if that helps.
Yeah I noticed this video is doing very well compared to most of my other recent ones. Hopefully the same goes for the next one.
Honestly, I never watched the Fantastic Four movie until I test-played the 2005 movie game, that was when I had an idea of how they got their powers & how the story progressed. That was in 2008, BTW. Miss those simpler times 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Just found your channel! Keep up the good work!
Thanks. Will do.
Im a fan of a good movie licenced game, this was the first video ive watched of your, loved it.
Just a correction: the X360/PS3 version of Rise of the Silver Surfer was developed by Visual Concepts, developers of the NBA 2K games.
My bad.
People always seem to hate the modern millennium until they don't a decade or two later. That just might go for modern Marvel movies 10 or so years later.
True I have noticed that. Something comes out and it becomes popular to hate it, therefore everyone in the general public jumps on the trend to fit it. A good example of that would be Spider-Man 3. For a while it was popular to hate it, now its popular to like it.
Me personally I always had the same opinion on these things and have never followed any mainstream narritives on anything. I liked Spider-Man 3 when it came out and I still love it to this day, I liked both Fantastic 4's and still do in spite of their flaws.
@nordicwarriorgaming4953 I'm no different then. I'm often more forgiving on the modern millennium regardless of quality than most are. The MCU and SW for prime examples. And never let the narrative of the internet suade me otherwise. No matter how hard that is for me to deal with every day of my life.
@@wickdaline8668 As far as the MCU goes I pretty much gave up on it midway through. I always found it to be hit and miss. Iron Man was an excellent stand alone movie, then it was followed up by a whole bunch of mediocre slop like Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America all of which felt like trailers for the Avengers movie.
Every now and then they would release a decent one like Winter Soldier, but again would ruin it in the very next entry. I have never been a fan of franchises that seem to come off of a convayor belt, being milked to no end for the sake of generating a stedy income for corporations.
Couple that with the fact that those movies seem to get more and more vial as time goes on, needing to promote every single latest political agenda or trend and you have a series of movies that aren't even really movies. They are simply corporate producs made out of necessity rather than any substantial reason.
As the saying goes "don't ask questions consume product, then get excited for next product" Applies perfectly to the MCU. Another thing you might have noticed is how quickly those movies disapear into obscurity after being released. For example there are 3 Ant Man movies, who talks about Ant Man now? Nobody. Endgame was hyped to no end and broke box office records, yet nobody seems to talk about it anymore.
It doesn't matter how much the media pushes the corporate products, they will never have the kind of pop culture impact that something like Spider-Man 3 was and still is able to generate.
The first F4 movie is one of my favorites in the superhero genre and I absolutely loved this game growing up. Thanks for reminding me of my childhood even if the games suck 😂.
I see MCU fanboys are crying their eyes out.
However, I agree with you, the F4 movies felt much more genuine and humane.
Yeah I will never understand the consume product get excited for next product mob lol. I would rather have some standards.
But i digress ☝️🧐
Great video. First game was very crucial to my childhood, and the second was a miserable 100% for me as an adult lmao
lol Thanks. God Bless.
I loved these when I was little had so much fun
Great video! I was in the mood for fantastic four content a while ago i played the gba game which is very underrated and played the ps2 verision of rise of the silver surfer which is solid, i started playing the ps2 verision of the first movie but havent finished it yet
Thanks. Never played any of the hand held version personally but maybe one day I might check them out.
@@nordicwarriorgaming4953 There charming handheld titles
I really liked the silver surfer game. I liked playing as invisible woman especially using her force field and telekinesis lol
Seeing these games again is like a fever dream
I remember a few of these characters that weren't in the films got made into action figures in the 6 inch toy line. I want to say Annihilus and Doombots specifically
Saw your video on my home page under recommended. Don't give up
Thanks. I noticed this video seems to be doing well when compaired to most of my other ones.
@@nordicwarriorgaming4953 yeah algo seems to be picking you up if it put you on my home page keep going. Your videos are already good quality you really just need to luck out lol. Don't be afraid to make videos on modern games too if you want
I loved the games and the movies. Was such a huge fan
Couple weeks ago I had bought the first fantastic four game for the GameCube off eBay and I gotta say I enjoyed it, somedays I miss movie tie in games
Yeah I always had a soft spot for tie ins.
that ultimate spiderman is awesome , maybe the best spider game after ps4 title
I played the first one a lot back in 05. Honestly didn’t know they made one for ROTSS as well.
Shang Chi, Multiverse of Madness, Wakanda Forever, No Way Home, all whip their ass with this Fantastic Four movie! It's never been good
lol.
ne of the first movies strengths was, like spiderman 2002, was that it took the premise of superheroes seriously and wasnt constantly throwing one-liners to say "lol this is absurd, see? we're self aware"
I agree.
16:15 Oh wow, a trailer for a game that's actually good.
Those games were amazing !
Good video!
Thanks.
It’s funny I literally just picked up a copy of fantastic four on OG Xbox super recently
Also do old movies and TV shows
that game was my childhood I beat it like 4 times
A recommendation for getting more views is to stop uploading let’s play type content on the same channel as your reviews. Some people will be subscribing only for the reviews and not for the let’s plays and won’t click on them which tells RUclips that your subscribers aren’t watching your content anymore and they bury your videos in the algorithm. I’d say create a channel just for the let’s play stuff and just plug it at the end of your videos for people who would want to seek that kind of content out! I think your thumbnail game is good enough. Just keep making the stuff, keep challenging yourself to get better, and after a while you will attract more people once you get the channel more streamlined!
Thanks. You are right about the let's plays, pretty much nobody watches them.
1:51 idk man across the spider verse and guardians of the galaxy 3 were really good. Also depending on what you mean by modern I can argue more as well
2:02 which superhero movies (that are praised btw) have a plot that doesn’t make sense? Cause all the ones that are beloved have an understandable plot
I LOVED the first one I didn’t play the 2nd one
And those games are better than the movies why because there *THEY ACTUALLY FIGHT CRIME AND SAVE PEOPLE FROM STUFF THEY DID CREATE!!!*
I hattttted this game I had the first one maybe pt 2 as well 🤣🤣
I was today years old lol
this may sound stupid, but maybe a cool thumbnail for the video to get people's attention?
i've herd mr.beast does this to get peoples attention
Yeah Thumbnails are important. Though I refuse to do the open mouth soyjack face that he does LOL. God Bless.
“But I digress.” You keep using that word, I do not think you think you know what that means.
When I listen to these back, I annoy myself by saying it. Perhaps I shall start using scripts or better ones at least.
@@nordicwarriorgaming4953 I was just joking with you but liked the video overall. Kinda glad I missed out on those games. Keep doing your thing man!
@@BigHossComedy Thanks I appreicate it.
Dawg, just play Ultimate Alliance
Tune into the channel this Friday ;)
@@nordicwarriorgaming4953 Okay, good. This is like reviewing the X-Men games when Uktimate Alliance exists. UA1 and 3 are my favorite superhero games.
@@redhood7778 Also I have a question. Did you watch this entire video? Because if you did you'd know I said near the end that you might aswell play Marvel Ultimate Alliance instead. Those exact words are in the video.
@@redhood7778well those games are still good either way I love ultimate alliance but X-men legends 1 and 2 are still worth playing
@redhood7778 as an Xmen fan playing Xmen legends was a blast. Fun beat em up combat and a ton of xmen trivia and lore to learn about. Also rise of apocalypse plays alot closer to UA1 then you may think plus Nightcrawler is playable
The 00's FF movie being "better than any modern marvel movie" is one of the worst takes i've ever seen 😂
Did you have an argument though? I have recieved this exact same comment but when I ask for further elaboration I get nothing.
Saying the movie is better than any modern Marvel movie is insane 😂😂
What's insane is how bad marvel movies are now, have you seen Marvels? Yeah no one else did either
Marvel hasn’t released a single good film since endgame every film after endgame has been utter dog shit
Is there an argument for why its not better?
I’m sorry but I had to click off as soon as you said F4 was better than any modern marvel movie lmao
Is there going to be an argument of any kind as to why its not?
@@nordicwarriorgaming4953 no point. You’re already too far gone to reason with.
@@HistorySkate I think he was speaking of post-Endgame MCU.
@@LegsON still don’t make sense lmao
@@HistorySkate Most if not all of post-Endgame movies/shows are crap. Thor, She-hulk, Antman, etc.
If you don't see this, there's really no sense in discussing this with you.
No way Fantastic Four 2005 isn't underrated it was mid back in 2005 and isn't any better in 2024 and also no way not better than MCU movies there's a reason Chris Evans barely acknowledges his time as Human Torch
At least its an actual movie, one with a plot and a cast of genuine characters. The MCU is just a bunch of corporate products with AI written plots that come straight off of a convayor belt. Appealing to the absolute lowest common denominator possible.
Also I honestly couldn't care less what Chris Evans says or thinks. He is an actor (a mainstream one on the payroll of his Hollywood handlers) and therefore a conformist with no real opinion of his own.
@nordicwarriorgaming4953 bullshit the MCU is none of that Cindy Cynic and MCU doesn't appeal to the lowest common denominator that's Sony you're thinking of and gosh dang thought your channel dealt with video games not politics
@captainjakeamerica4579 First of all who said anything about politics? Not me. Secondly that's a pretty bold (not to mention ignorant) statement. Surely such a thing is subjective and not entirely dependant on your interpretation of those movies.
You say I am objectively wrong about the MCU (without providing a single reason why or argument against my criticisms) and then you make a similar statement to mine in regards to Sony's movies (which I don't like either by the way I actually think they are worse)
Thirdly if you'd like I can easy give a detailed breakdown of why the MCU is specifically designed to appeal to people with no standards whatsoever and why they are not even really movies or pieces of art. They are simply AI generated products made to generate money and push trends.
As you said this channel is gaming related, but I do have other interests that I dabble in from time to time. I'm open to suggestions.
@@nordicwarriorgaming4953 MCU it's not on the conveyor belt you are so wrong there are plenty of movies that have great artistic Beauty to them and you are just one of the many Cindy cynics that have spawned ever since Avengers Endgame didn't say objectively either you are stretching what I said more than Mr Fantastic I was just pointing out your hypocrisies okay well I was just trying to come up with the term to describe your rant about AI which I find just not applicable to Marvel there are actual human writers that write the scripts plenty of fans who watch them have standards so you're just being a Cindy cynic
@@nordicwarriorgaming4953 I do enjoy most of your videos and most of your reviews on these classic video games that I've played and some modern ones also along with comparing games that are celebrating anniversaries so keep up the great work on that content just don't like your Martin Scorsese bile you're spitting about the MCU they are cinema and are made like any movie so nah quit drinking Martin Scorsese's Kool-Aid
