@@andrewgarfield9898 idk about garbage, I usually play it once each two years and it’s fun every time, only part that hasn’t aged well are the graphics.
Loved those as well. I actually got into Marvel more from the games. The old shows and XMen Evolution as well but these games made me care about lore. Rented X-Men Legends without knowing a whole lot about most of them. Then beat it, saw a commercial for 2, went to the video store immediately and they’d just gotten in the day before! If I’m remembering right that one had IronMan and DeadPool in them didn’t they?
Unfortunately playing through MUA 1 within the last month I’ve found Storm is one of the worst going pure stats. But doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use her. In Legends 2 I remembered her and Toad being 2 of my favorites. MUA1 was a blast even with the “bad” characters. When the DLC for 1 came out I was floored because i was looking at strategies and saw some for Cyclops, Sabertooth, Hulk, Nightcrawler, and Magneto! Had no idea! 2 was great, better graphics, more fun story, loved the combos, but felt lacking… But Juggernaut, Gambit, Goblin then later Carnage! 3 is a lot of fun but is SUCH A GRIND! Not enough attention to each characters and felt very bloated.
This game was a big part of my childhood and really instilled my appreciation for how vast the Marvel universe is. You can see how pre-MCU the game is in tone and aesthetic, really love faithful it is to the comics. Great video and still one of the best Marvel games to this day
One of my favorite videogames ever, remember playing it for hours every evening after school. Also loved UA2 on the PSP because it was much closer to the first one in gameplay aspects even though the animated cutscenes were far better.Miss these kind of games, great vid
Cyclops is one of the best characters. That ricochet beam dominated crowds and the constant beam did the same for bosses. Doom was one of the worst unfortunately. Cyclops, Sabertooth, Strange, Iron Man, Ice Man, Surfer, Thing, and SpiderMan were the ones I used the most!
Excellent review, I can subscribe every word. I have a similar story with this game (only that I played it mostly on PS3). As a Marvel comic reader of the last 70s and 80s, MUA was simply delightful for me. The accuracy of the characters, the spirit of the story, those trivia questions, the stages (almost all the most emblematic Marvel places), etc... Yes, the game is a bit straight, but as you well said it has enough details and challenges for replayability. Love, love, love the soundtrack and the quarters design, especially Sancta Sanctorum, Asgard and Attilan. 9 out of 10, imho Cheers and keep the good work 🎉
I might’ve missed it mentioned, but depending on the team you put together, you’ll get buffs and a team name- like X-Men, Avengers, and one of my favorite is Bruisers. Plus making your own team with color and name and logo. This game is crazy

please do 2 AND 3 when you get chance (if you haven't) if part 3 had specific conversations (and was on better systems) it would be hands down my favorite.
Met one of my best Xbox live friends playing this game on the original Xbox. We still game from time to time. I remember seeing the at the time "next gen" console versions got exclusive characters, Me and my friend actually wrote and called to Activision asking if we could possibly get those characters on the original Xbox version. Needless to say, our calls went ignored but we tried! About a year or so later, we ended up getting the 360 version and running through it a few more times. Good memories!
Nice to see a recent review of the game. I grew up with the Wii version of it and a couple months ago found a secondhand copy for the 360, unfortunately I couldn't play it right away as I was in college and only brought my Xbox One. So when summer break came I decided play it with my brother and young nephew it was a blast.

I wish they release the gold edition again. They did briefly on Steam but it was plagued with terrible controller support. Instead of fixing it, Activision said screw you instead. I only had the Wii version so it had PS 2 like graphics but with Colossus and Moon Knight. I really would want to play this version just for the graphics.
Too bad the series peaked with this. Even MUA3 just didn't have the bonus content (Single Character Backstory missions for examplw) to match. Also, arguably, the era of comics this came out in was the last good one for Marvel over all. The 2010s would happen after, and the less said about not that but marvel now, the better. It's not as if this era was without its problems. One More Day would happen the year after this game was released, not to mention the Civil War event, which, while iconic was terribly written (Marvel peaked in the Shooter era) but still over all it was a good time for Marvel comics with Ultimate Spider-Man and the DnA Cosmic Saga which were excellent.

X-Men legends 12 are loosely connected to Marvel ultimate alliance one and two. There’s no story that connects them but vague hence that you can kind of find out within the world. Then that’s from my own research on the X-Men legends and Marvel legends games.
X-Men Legends 1 & 2 were created by the same team at Raven that produced MUA 1. This team then moved on to the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie game. MUA2 was passed to another team at Activision. ... years later MUA 3 is produced by another team, another engine, built all new content.
I would say that the Wii version is the best from a gameplay perspective. You had access to all special moves and you could use uppercuts, sweeps and other moves without doing the combos.
I think you're nuts. I just played the first Fantastic Four movie game on Gamecube and it's way more fun in the moment to moment combat than ANY of the cookie cutter top down games. Maybe it's because I so much prefer full camera control and 3rd person view, maybe it's because all four feel so different to play and serve such clear battle functions, or maybe it's simply the greater focus on less characters, but I'm playing X Men Legends 2 now, and I dearly miss the FF game. I can't play the sequel, my 360 is out, but I'd take that over this glorified mini map with more characters, but so much less distinction between them. I love the 2000's era superhero movie games, my favorites make you feel like the hero, like the first Iron Man and how you choose which upgrades to tackle each mission with, its not a flat power scale, its a toolbox for problem solving. Captain America Super Soldier and Green Lantern Rise of the Manhunters both are very fun and utilize the heroes ' power sets in fun ways that borrow from established systems, Arkham counter combat but with the Cap shield and God of War combos with a GL ring. This game marks where I feel like that era ended, where every mission and every type of hero felt the same and it got boring. This was where a roster of names replaced any feeling of being the hero. And I miss my one good old toy, it was more fun than this shallow overflowing toybox.
