    You've probably already gotten this comment but, Mat Lucas was the voice of Anakin in this game. He was the VO for Anakin in the Tartakovsky series as well as many of the games releasing in the 2000s. Even though he's a bit polarizing in the community, we know that he can deliver some good lines, but for whatever reason there are a significant number of weak reads in this game from him specifically.

    The game is 100% darker than the movie. Anakin toying with the Jedi in the Jedi Temple as he cuts them down with ease. Clones and Jedi when a limb gets cut off or they are stabbed. Anakin wearing Windu done to the point he has no strength to fight that he gets stabbed and aggressively thrown out the window. The alternative timeline where Obi-Wan hesitated for just a moment where gets stabbed and killed and then catches Sideous off-guard and kills him. You getting to play Anakin murdering the Separatists. The Clones being much more aggressive and blunt about their betrayal.

      I hear this game is actually how the movie was originally supposed to be. The original script ran for more than 4 hours, and it was basically this game's plot. Needless to say, George Lucas had to cut down the size of the movie *a lot* in order to get the final verison that we saw in the theaters.
      Makes you wish we had a Director's Cut of the movie, like we did with Return of the King, huh

    • @ajflink
      @ajflink 26 дней назад +3

      @@artemis1993 There was also supposed to be a subplot of Sideous trying to get Anakin to distrust his wife since she was being a severe political thorn in Sideous' side. It is implied he cannot simply have her killed or he knew that Anakin would probably go berserk upon him and easily overpower him.
      This somewhat still exists in the final movie as Sideous does seem very confident on how powerful Anakin is and will become (and perhaps silently fearful if Anakin were to turn upon him). When Anakin, now Darth Vader, was rebuilt and seems saddened, due to how the acting is portrayed, Sideous seems to carefully and slowly word what happened to Padme in order to ensure he does not kill him out of rage.
      The reason Grevious has a coughing and breathing problem is due to Windu partially crushing his exoskeleton when abducting the Chancellor.
      The storming of the Jedi Temple (or Operation Knightfall) was supposed to be more brutal. It is also canonical that Anakin effortlessly slaughter the Jedi and I believe the librarian was killed in the same fashion as she is in the game. Although, Disney decided to retcon a lot of these things for no reason and this librarian somehow survived Vader and the 51st's slaughter. Things like that is why I live in denial about what is considered canon in Star Wars (which is essentially anything before the Disney acquisition).

    • @artemis1993
      @artemis1993 26 дней назад +2

      @@ajflink The librarian survived?!
      I'm... not surprised actually, considering how non-lethal lightsabers are in Disney's canon now. I guess girl power makes you strong enough to tank lightsabers, apparently.
      And before anyone mentions Darth Maul, yes, him surviving being cut in half was also pretty stupid, but at least it was an isolated incident. But now, seems everyone can just pull a Maul and survive lightsabers for some reason

    Well, they never did use this engine for more Star Wars titles, but The Collective modified this for a whole bunch of their games. It's proprietary tech called called the "Slayer Engine" as it was developed to power Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the original Xbox (which is a beat 'em up with a an in-depth combat system). It also powered Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, and even survived their merger with Shiny Entertainment/name change to Double Helix where it was modified to power Strider (2014), Green Lantern Rise of the Manhunters (and Justice League Arcade before it got cancelled) and eventually it just was converted 100% into a fighting game engine to power Killer Instinct (2014). So if you like the combat in this game, you can at least rest easy knowing that it powered some good, meaty combat in lots of other games too 😉 It's clear that the Collective loved fighting games, and that's why characters here are all fully featured and fully designed like Yoda, as you said. The _Versus Mode_ was a big deal for them in this game, and it is a pretty terrific Arena Fighter in its own right. The Versus Mode here is almost certainly the best Star Wars fighting game that officially exists.

It is pretty good; the combat feels just as good as Buffy and Indy, and the platforming is a welcome addition. It even also has a Versus Mode! I can't believe I forgot it! I feel like Yoda was planned to be a part of the multiplayer dueling mode, because the two cutscenes that play when his bonus mission begins and ends are animated in the same vein as every other character in the versus mode.
    My guess is that he was cut because he was so hard to deal with on the other characters' end. A similar problem happened with the game Soulcalibur 4, where Yoda was a guest character; half of the opponent's moves didn't work on Yoda. He was regarded as one of the most hated characters in the series.
    So I think they were a bit smarter than Bandai Namco was.

      Yup. Tom Kane has been in a *_lot_* of Star Wars stuff and played many different roles, including:
      Yoda (both Clone Wars cartoons and most games)
      Admiral Yularen (The Clone Wars and Rebels)
      The Clone Wars Narrator
      Admiral Ackbar (Lego, Battlefront, The Last Jedi)
      Boba Fett (Demolition, Galactic Battlegrounds, Jedi Academy)
      Qui-Gon (Lego Skywalker Saga)
      Ozzik Sturn (The Force Unleashed)
      Leebo (Shadows of the Empire)
      Master Vandar (Knights of the Old Republic)
      And many more. Sadly, he had to retire in 2020 after suffering a stroke that impeded his speech. I'm glad he's still with us, but I'll miss hearing him. He was one of the greats.

    I read the novel and finished the game right before the movie was released. I saw the movie opening day and was excited. The theater was packed and I got stuck next to a kid who must have been 6 or 7 years old with his mother. That kid talked and talked. If he wasn't talking then he was screaming he wanted popcorn or candy. I finally got fed up and leaned over to him and told him how the movie ended. His mother got mad. I just smiled and told her to button her lip and her kid's. She and her kid didn't make a sound.

    Matt Lucas, who voices Anakin, also voiced him in the 2003 Clone Wars 2D micro series. While he does sound better in the show (he gives a really good performance in the Ventress episode) I think he fits well in this game. He’s no Matt Lanter but he’s a good substitute for Hayden.

    If I remember correctly, Mat Lucas did Anakin’s voice in this game - they just took the VAs from Cartoon Network’s “Clone Wars” series for this game. I agree, however - I don’t think Lucas’ take did Anakin justice in most of this game.

    A fun thing I always liked to do was rhythmically press the B button on these panels. Constantly starting and canceling the animation would drastically offset the character to the point where they'd be cutting into the far side of the wall next to the panel. Due to the misalignment when the character discards the panel, it would interact with and physically move the character.
    So many dumb fun memories. I love this game so much.

You can like one thing without constantly feeling the need to drag other things down. The Charles Soule Vader comics (where Jocasta Nu initially survived Order 66, but was ultimately caught and killed by Vader) is genuinely fantastic. Great art, well written, good character exploration. Don't discount things just because they don't match the old continuity. And hell, Legends had even more Order 66 survivors than Disney canon does. You mentioned one in this video, with Jerec.
