Being obsessed with Dragons in media I couldn't help but notice a couple things. An interesting aspect of these designs is that both the Everlasting Archdragons of the age of ancients (visible in the trailer), the Dragon God and the ordinary Ancient Dragons of Elden Ring have 4 wings and a bimaxilary disposition (double jaws). This also allows us to uncover the Dark Souls 2 Ancient Dragon as either a fake (confirmed by the lore) or a diluted descendant affected with the curse of life, as it doesn't have these traits, the latter examplified by all Dragon Bosses of Dark Souls, such as Midir and Kalameet, cursed with the dark. Inversely Dragonic descendants that have lived in favorable conditions start to revert back to more authentic forms even inheriting traits of their environment, such as the King of The Storms with more developed horns and vestigial feathers. Also you might notice that the wyverns of Dark Souls 3, as the world approaches its end and becomes more grey and divested of fire, become much more similar to everlasting dragons, with stronger features, greyer scales, and more defined draconic traits, unlike the wyverns of DS1 that were vibrant in color and distant in looks from their ancestors. In fact I have a theory that everything in the Dark Souls universe evebrually reverts to being an archtree or an archdragon, but that's for some other time. This recurring theme indicates that the loss of limbs or jaws (or heads in ER) indicates an evolution forward in time, and usually a degradation in the case of modern Dragons and Wyverns, but is interestingly contrasted by the existence of Wyrms, that do have 4 limbs, but lack all other abilities of dragons, so much so that not only their bodies but also their fires are weighed down becoming heavy magma, with useless wings and obsidian curved swords that resemble the lightning glaives of Ancient Dragons, unable to walk efficiently on 4 legs but bound to crawl, both they and their weapons greatly weighed down and bound to the earth unlike the lightning glaives that descend thunderously from the skies. [Edit: Bayle is a whole other can of worms, arguably the coolest Dragon of the series right next to Midir and Placidusax.]
Living Failures are actually the church's attempt (Failed attempts, hence the name) at replicating the aliens. Real ones are the "Celestial Emissaries"
Divine Dragon, Midir, and Placidusax are my favorites. I love how the Divine Dragon is such a mystical creature, along with the fact it has one arm like Wolf. The most unique dragon design from FromSoft. Anytime I see Midir, he is practically like a destructive force of nature, especially when he throws that massive beam. He is practically FromSoft's Godzilla. And Placidusax is like a worn out King Ghidorah. Love that 'meditating' pose it does when you first see it. Also like the way FromSoft designed its necks. One of those dragons I wish I got to see without those wounds and all its heads.
It's such a shame how detailed and incredible many of FromSoft's enemy/boss designs are considering the fact you can't really get a good look at faqing any of them during a normal playthrough.
One of the main reasons I love Souls game is the enemy and creature designs. Just absolutely brilliant. I love all of the dragons but I gotta say they nailed it in Elden Ring I loved seeing and fighting dragons
One thing I love about the ancient dragons of Elden Ring is the communities collective response to that one trailer shot of Lanseaxx wielding Lightning being "Wait that's Illegal"
When I saw you add that absolutly terrifying eye attack of Kalameet I was trying to guess which cinematics/attacks/animations you would show for each game. Really enjoyed watching Sinh´s sky-shrouding poison fume breath again and of course, Midir´s laser beam. Exellent video as always!
The ancient stone dragons of elden ring really have a good design, it feels like what fromstoft has been building towards the whole time within the lores of their games, and it works exceptionally well here especially when you're able to compare them to the newer generation of dragons
Lanssax with his 4 wings and red lightning is the best for me. The first time when he comes out of nowhere, it's one the numerous cool moment in ER. I still love Midir or Kalameet also.t
Instead of getting the stronger version of the dragon breath, it should have been the special attack of the named dragon, ezykyes had that rot breath barf that covered an entire area, boreal had the frost procting roar, adula had the sweep with his magic sword and the other magic dragon had the comet and crystal breath
@@paweuszcz4856 i know but the adula blade and comet would scale with faith instead based on the seal instead of the staff, and I was thinking the adula blade with the dragon head would work like the dragon claw inc instead with a swipe, the boreal frost roar I have in mind is like greyol's roar but instead of a debuff, it procts frosbite instead
Fortisax looks so fucking cool when he has the lightning effect all over his body active gotta be my favorite in elden ring. Though I never noticed how much like a coral reef the scarlet rot dragon looks like, the bleached growths like a dead reef but the red patched kinda looked like living coral going with the scarlet rots theme of death and rebirth.

When I saw Elden Dragon for the first time I thought “this thing gonna spin like maniac not just my camera but my entire building” but Froms sparred us from epilepsy 😔
Elden Ring and ds1 have the best dragons. So many cool and original designs, great lore, great fights in Elden Ring which has the best dragon boss ever in the name of Placidusax. And there's not even the Dragonkin soldiers which are amazing too.
Yeap, my favorite, because the fight with Placidusax felt finally, different while the rest of the dragons except Glinstone, Lichdragon, felt carbon copies of one another with difference of their regional buffs (Caelid's Decayed Dragon's rot, Boreal's frost in Consecrated snowfield etc). And I love Midir, annoying but epic as hell.
The designs of dark souls were on another level of originality, uniqueness, and eerie look. Only thing that came closer was oceiros and the divine dragon.

@@DannyDogg31 to be fair, Seath, Oceiros, and the Magma Wyrms are all just humans attempting to become dragons, and Dragon God is also a bit of an outlier
Seems like most of them either fall under Wyverns or "True dragons". For the record a "true dragon" is simply classified as a dragon with at least 6 limbs, 4 legs and 2 separated wings or 2 legs 2 arms and 2 wings (no clue why they'really called "true" dragons but I guess they are). Wyvern is characterized by having only 4 limbs, 2 hind legs and 2 fore limb wings. Example: Dragon god, Kalameet, sinh, midir, and the ancient dragons of elden ring are all true dragons. Interestingly magma wyrms are also ironically true dragons, in fact a "wyrm" is supposed to be a dragon with no limbs just I bigger meaner snake. And a "drake" is supposed to be a dragon with 4 legs/ 2 legs 2 arms and no wings so the hellkite drake and blue drakes are not drakes, they're wyverns. Sorry for all the rambling, dragons are just cool.
Yeah, that was their old definition and "true" was to help clarify the 6 limb, as the modern word dragon has devolved and been desensitized to mean another word for monster, and all the other words here mean dragon, so people of a certain mindset like to attack people like you who call this out for their kicks.
@@zionthedragon8866 It hasn't devolved. Throughout history it's been like that. For instance, kirin are called dragons, despite being closer to what we call an unicorn. Eastern dragons also don't fit the "true" category, but still call them dragons. The only country that ever differentiated between a dragon and a wyvern, was England. Look into it.
I still love Sihn and the buildup to his battle. Fighting your way through an entire Aztec-looking city built in his honor and learning of it's civilization's rise and fall.
not sure about you guys. but midir was actually giving me a run for my money there, in terms of difficulty. if you ever played dark souls, you know that the dragon fights in elden ring are far more easier mainly because the camera work. as much as i loved midir boss fight, i hated how the camera always goes insane when im fighting him
I know its a year later but i never had camera issues fighting midir. I did have camera issues with kalameet though. I think if you focus midirs head the camera is fine
Thanks for a fabulous look at Fortissax's one remaining eye! Man, the poor guy seems to have lost his pupil entirely, and maybe even his iris, unless it's that slighly brighter, somewhat v-shaped golden section in the center of the eye. If that is indeed his iris, then Fortissax is so injured that, unlike the other ancient dragons, he can't even move his eye properly to look right in front of him. As for Placidusax, it's intriguing that he might have subtle round pupils. The "modern" dragons all have round pupils, as best observed with Greyoll, so I wonder why the dragonlord's pupils might resemble the supposedly inferior modern dragons, along with traits like the nose horn. Perhaps the ancient dragons aren't quite natural after all? I'm also grateful for this nuanced look at all the dragons from Demon's Souls onward! In particular, I've always felt that the red and blue dragons of the Boletarian Palace have surprisingly beautiful scales, and their overall designs are great too. I'm not sure why you showed a low-res version of the Stone Dragon of Ash Lake though. I appreciate the close look at Sinh waking up, as I'm not sure if I ever noticed that he starts off surrounded by rocks and breaks them when awakening. He always looked oddly obscured before the fight fully began, and those rocks explain why.
Dragonlord placidusax is literally my favorite dragon especially in his second phase mode love the way he teleports and sooooo many things that he does. Midir doesn't stand a chance against him he will get destroyed
Placi literally can't even move without teleportation, he isn't as mobile, he's another Leg Hitter Simulator TM, he can't actually aim his laser at you, he's pretty much harmless Hate the constant favoritism for what is one of Elden Ring's worst bosses
I love the sort of decaying look of the dragons in Fromsoft's games, this even applies to a lot of their enemy and world design in general, where I noticed that a lot of the npcs, enemies, bosses, map, and even the player themselves looks decaying or withered in some way
Ds1 has 8 dragon/drake typs ds2 has 3 and ds3 has 6. Now I don't want to be the one to say this, but I feel like dark souls 1 makes the least sense to have the most dragons.just due to them being ya know whiped out.
Damn. Since most of the fights play out similarly, I never noticed how intricate and unique the design is for each of the different Elden Ring dragons. Then again, it's kinda hard to stop and admire the model when it's projectile vomiting fire/rot/frost/glintstone magic at you every five seconds 🤷
I was thinking about how much some of the Elden Ring dragons remind me of Elder Dragons from Monster Hunter, (especially White Fatalis) And then I saw Greyoll's title LMAO.
I've always preferred the two leg, two wing approach to Dragons because four legged dragons either look like dogs (like Midir) or cats (like Kalameet). Therefore, I think the best design is, weirdly enough, the Glintstone Dragons from Elden Ring. With that said, obviously, Midir has the best Dragon fight in any From Soft game. P.S. I'd like to give an honorable mention to our boy, King Ghidorah! I mean, Placidusaxx
@@draw2death421 everyone says that, but it isn't actually true. It's a distinction created by D&D. Nothing else, including history, follows this idea. @@xxfalconarasxx5659 in that same vein, a human, unicorn, and cat can be whatever the writer or artist wants it to be. Also not all the creatures in elden are wyverns which shows you probably didn't see the video and/or haven't played elden ring to make this comment. In history, people depicted creatures loosely or strongly similar to dragons that it was easy for simplisty sake and translation of different languages to use the word dragon as a catch all term in the same way the word "devil" was later used for anything perceived as evil or bad, where in the case of the WORD dragon it became desensitized to mean the same thing as the word monster. That is a ambiguous term used to describe literally anything and thus no longer holds any weight or water when thrown out. It is often the proper victim of what the original use of etymology fallacy was, as well as misdirection in arguments. Which is why the term "true" dragon (key word there being true not "fact") and/or "proper" dragon is used when referring to the six limbed dragons. Also the writers wrote than in lore for most of these, and in most of their games, with exceptions, these wyverns are not dragons so in some regard op is right.
I’ve noticed the ancient dragons in both dark souls and elden ring have a similar body structure with the four wings and a connection to stones. I wonder what the significance is?

You could do one video on all the aliens in souls games, like Astel, Living Failures etc...
bloodborne: it's showtime
That would basically just be Bloodborne and Elden Ring
I'm pretty sure none of the games except Bloodborne and Elden Ring have any
Living Failures are actually the church's attempt (Failed attempts, hence the name) at replicating the aliens.
Real ones are the "Celestial Emissaries"
@@jeeBisOkay yes
Gaping dragon is one of the creepiest out of all dragons
Also has the added bonus of sounding like a bedroom technique
@@HollowHighlander the gaping dragon is something out of a dark hell
@@Just-Ignore-It_88 I would smash though
@@HollowHighlander I dunno what it is... but dark souls 1 bosses are more scarier and sinister. Bloodborne also has that aswell.
O god,Ekzykes blinking is the creepiest shit ever.I didnt even realise he could do that.
The ancient stone dragons of elden ring really have a good design, it feels like what fromstoft has been building towards the whole time within the lores of their games, and it works exceptionally well here especially when you're able to compare them to the newer generation of dragons
i like how the dragons in demons souls and ds1 are classic medieval fantasy designs, and then in DS3 there are straight up godzillas
I wanna know what Seath looked like before he experimented on himself and grew a bunch of tentacles with crystals sticking out of them.
You should do most unique enemies in every souls game
Agreed, that would make for a very good showcase.
Kind of subjective though
What counts as most unique, though? Spiritcaller Snails? The sword monkeys that should be bosses? Rom, the Vacuous Spider?
@@Enneamorph unique would be things that only appear once in the series, or have weird interactions I’d say. But it’s still very subjective ig

Lanssax with his 4 wings and red lightning is the best for me. The first time when he comes out of nowhere, it's one the numerous cool moment in ER. I still love Midir or Kalameet also.t

wooow I never realized how good the remastered DS1 textures are
kalameet will always hold a special place in my heart
it would be cool to see the two halves of the undead dragon put back together. it's also interresting that the lower halves are all found in Izalith
Acxually 1 is found in the painting world behind the undead dragon.
You can see them put together in Ariamis before you aggro the front half.
@@elias.t I think he means standing up.
Sinh is criminally underrated. Probably the 2nd best dragon boss in the dark souls trilogy
Agreed. Also, his OST is easily one of the best of the Soulsborne games. Too bad is so much underrated.
Personally I loved his bossfight. But seriously, he could do with spending a little more time on the ground.
I wasent a huge fan. Him flying away constantly and his wonky hit boxes were pretty annoying.
The 2nd one is kalameet
1st one is Midir for me, followed by Khalameet
Even though they may not count, I remember there was a skeleton dragon in Aldia's Keep in DS2 and the even greater dragon in Leyndell.
Instead of getting the stronger version of the dragon breath, it should have been the special attack of the named dragon, ezykyes had that rot breath barf that covered an entire area, boreal had the frost procting roar, adula had the sweep with his magic sword and the other magic dragon had the comet and crystal breath
You actually get Adula's sword as a spell after killing it, Comet is just normal spell, Ice mist is also a spell iirc
Fortissax is so intimidating, with all that black lightning, his arena being... Do I even need to elaborate? And of course that absolutely banger ost.
I'm guessing "all kinds of rats" will be next? Traditional enemy you see in every souls game.
And last but not the least, "all bosses of Souls game". That's going to be an even bigger video.
Interestingly, you missed out Dragonkin Soldier as that's a mumified dragon that should have been part of the category :P
The ministry rats in Sekiro
you missed the dragonkin soldiers of nokstella. they were also artificial dragons like the magma wyrms and I think should count too. Also, are there no dragons in bloodborne? I don't know the whole game but it feels weird if there isn't.
Nope, there were none in Bloodborne. Most have been overtaken by Cthullu inspired cosmic creatures instead :P
The Magma Wyrms were included, but you're right that the Dragonkin Soldiers were not. As for Bloodborne, it had no dragons.
They also missed grannsax but I get why they skipped him,
Dragons in bloodborne😂

Elden Ring and ds1 have the best dragons. So many cool and original designs, great lore, great fights in Elden Ring which has the best dragon boss ever in the name of Placidusax. And there's not even the Dragonkin soldiers which are amazing too.
I agree about ds1. Kalameet and gaping dragon are my favorites.
What about Darkeatter Midir and Storm Wyvern in DS3?
@@draw2death421 They're amazing too, Ds3 has a great dragons roster.
@@draw2death421 storm wyvern ain't a dragon.
The designs of dark souls were on another level of originality, uniqueness, and eerie look. Only thing that came closer was oceiros and the divine dragon.
This is probably my new fav video on your channel 👍
the most beautiful dragon in my opinion is the divine dragon of sekiro design totally different from the others
I love souls games lore video but having just simply designs showcase of these creatures is soooo appreciated!
Seeing just how big Greyoll is standing up made me have a mini heart attack, I am so glad she was stuck in the ground when we found her

For me, the Best Dragon of all times is Darkeater Midir.
And best music
Ironic or rather not so ironic that Placidusax had 5 heads, but now only has 2, like the 2 finger vs 3 that is shown throughout the game.
Elden ring has lot of cooler dragons but dark souls series takes it to a whole new level. Especially Midir and Kalameet.
Midir, Sihn, and Kalameet are the GOATS
You forgot the big boy gransax
very informative, thanks mate 🔥
Bone dragon from DS2. Not the enemy but anyways
Also dragon bodies in Freja's arena and DS3 Archdragon Peak
The single dragon body in freja's room is the ancient dragon, which was in the video.
CUUUURSE YOU BAYLE!!!!!!
the dragon god isn't a dragon ,its a really big buff man in a dragon costume
Midir no diffs bro, midir literally fought the abyss all the way to the end of the world
Its very easy to cheese placi but midir not so much.
@@Daan-Dovah Midir is basicaly like artorias a fallen hero.

@@Guyy_1 Placi is a great s tier boss, hes just more of a spectacle boss.
I love the sort of decaying look of the dragons in Fromsoft's games, this even applies to a lot of their enemy and world design in general, where I noticed that a lot of the npcs, enemies, bosses, map, and even the player themselves looks decaying or withered in some way
2 legs = wyvern and 4 legs = dragon
Dark Souls 1 has the best dragons in my opinion. They have the most unique visual designs in my opinion and they also have tail cuts.
For a land or where the dragons were wiped out during the first fire, there's lots of dragons.
Ds1 has 8 dragon/drake typs ds2 has 3 and ds3 has 6. Now I don't want to be the one to say this, but I feel like dark souls 1 makes the least sense to have the most dragons.just due to them being ya know whiped out.
Out of all of these different types of dragons the ancient dragon from Elden Ring is definitely my favorite
Damn. Since most of the fights play out similarly, I never noticed how intricate and unique the design is for each of the different Elden Ring dragons.
Then again, it's kinda hard to stop and admire the model when it's projectile vomiting fire/rot/frost/glintstone magic at you every five seconds 🤷
I didn't realized Borealis has a different rostrum and horn shape compared to the rest of the flying dragons.
Holy shet almost 20 mins worth of dragons!!!???
Some off-shoot dragons include Hydra from DS and the Basilisk (they drop dragon bones in DS2).
I was thinking about how much some of the Elden Ring dragons remind me of Elder Dragons from Monster Hunter, (especially White Fatalis)
And then I saw Greyoll's title LMAO.

1. Midir
2. Sinh
3. Kalameet
4. Divine dragon
5. Placidusax

Blue drakes are kinda weird compared to others. Literally the only ones to ever _breath_ lightning in those games.
Maybe they're born out of Seath's bullshit?

All of the barbs on the hellkit look really cool.
great video! but you missed granseaxx in elden ring, the big dragon in leyndell!
10:15 this was ultra creepy
Ancient dragons are my favorite dragon designs. (Elden ring)
Technicly Dragons with 2 legs and 2 wings are called Wyverns. They are part of the dragon category but they are like a sub tier.
@@draw2death421 everyone says that, but it isn't actually true. It's a distinction created by D&D. Nothing else, including history, follows this idea. In fact, history has always used Wyvern and Dragon interchangeably. D&D was the first, and for the most part, only thing to make a distinction between the two.
@@draw2death421 A dragon is really whatever the writer or artist wants it to be. In the Elder Scrolls, all dragons are Wyverns, but still considered to be true dragons nonetheless. In Dragon Age, there are true dragons, and then there are Wyverns which are considered distinct. In terms of history, people have depicted dragons with a wide variety of characteristics. Two wings and two legs, two wings and four legs, four wings and four legs, or no limbs at all, doesn't matter.
@@jasonbarry1719 the irony of this, because this is so wrong, and shows a lack of knowing d&d and mindless repeating regretted human centipede spew from others. If I try to explain the facts, I have a feeling it would go no where and just result in a argument to ignore said facts.
Recycling of ideas, like how seath and kalameet get a parody or a direct version of them in many from soft games. Aka paying tribute to an idea or concept through reption and reuse of said idea.
