    Love these videos. For anyone who has primordia without any pinning (for several days) I recommend adding a layer or vermiculite casing. I’ve done 6 tubs of GT, maintaining temp at avg 76 degrees F and RH of 99% and each of the 6 tubs didn’t pin until after the vermiculite dusting/layer. All of them began pinning within 2 days of the vermiculite. Food for thought.

    • @myspam7353

    My house is between 50 and 65 during the winter. Usually 55 to 60, not much time above 60. I still get great results, but it usually takes about 6 weeks from spawn to harvest.
    So... you can still save energy and grow mushrooms.

    • @HeyRaeSunnyDay
      @HeyRaeSunnyDay 2 года назад +3

      That is such good news! My condo is a consistent 66.3 degrees and my tubs/shoeboxes will not colonize, just spotty growth for weeks, then all of the sudden, contamination :-( So I added a space heater and now it feels like the tubs are drying out, I can't win.

    • @AcrylicGoblin
      @AcrylicGoblin 2 года назад +4

      @@HeyRaeSunnyDayWhile 66 is colder than the temps you will read about online, that's plenty warm IME. When it comes to heaters, I've done better just letting it be cold; I seemed to have a lot of contamination problems when using a space heater. I felt like it helped the contam grow more than the mushrooms. However, I was working with a shitty culture at the time that may have had some kind of bacteria or parasitic fungus hiding in the mycelium, so that may have been the problem. Also, my heater was kind of blowing hot air at the tubs rather than just increasing the ambient temperature.
      I've found that a higher spawn ratio helps things move along when growing in the winter,. using 2 quarts of spawn per shoebox instead of 1.
      I am by no means an expert, but I very highly doubt that temp is your problem if things are contaminating before a good flush @66.
      I suspect that you aren't working with a clean culture or there is a problem with your grain. I had a lot of problems when using lids with tyvek or micropore tape. Do you have a pressure canner to cook the heck out of the grains? Are you using multispore, agar, or LC?
      I had something hiding in my agar plates that I just kept transferring. Looking at pics on the shroomery I was finally able to figure it out.

    • @HeyRaeSunnyDay
      @HeyRaeSunnyDay 2 года назад +2

      @@AcrylicGoblin Thankyou AG for this thought-provoking ultra helpful answer. I too am pretty new to this, have studied extensively, read and now trying a variety of TEK to see what works. YES I am using MSS tested on Agar. YES, I'm steam sterilizing my grains (popcorn, BRF) and also trying UncleBens Tek with cultured Agar and zero luck. I really loathe micro-pour tape and don't trust it as most of my UBR bags to fully colonize but always (abouit 8 bags so far) with blue mold. (I'm tossing those into the garden and the squirrels are enjoying the grains) My jars are doing really well but completely stalled in my 3 bins, like nothing is happening except spotty colonization, and I too have a space heater "blowing" in the closet to warm it up.
      I really really like your idea of upping the spawn to sub ratio. I'm using oven pastuerized CVG about a 3:1 ratios of sub to grain, so that may be the drag too.
      I'm now trying to fruit right out of the jar with a gorgeous jar of pure fluffy white mycelium on popcorn, and sure enough blue Trich is showing up on the top layer of vermiculite. This all being said, I am not giving up! I must rethink my whole set and get focused on ONE tek and perfect that.
      If you read this far into my monoloque here, I am forever grateful, thank you for listening. This is NOT a spectator sport 🙂 Mush Love, my friend.

    • @AcrylicGoblin
      @AcrylicGoblin 2 года назад +2

      @@HeyRaeSunnyDay I'm happy to try and help. I went through an astounding amount of failure before any success, so I understand how hard it can be at first. No squirrels here, but I made a mountain of compost.
      Much like in the beginning, your cultivation methods are kind of all over the place. You are correct in saying that you need to pic a Tek and follow it through to success.
      I'd suggest giving up on the popcorn. I never had a single good harvest that started from popcorn and it's generally accepted to be the worst grain choice. Leave the Uncle Ben's to highschool kids trying to grow without their parents finding out. I use wild bird seed, it's been more successful for me than any of the other things I tried.
      A large part of my early failures came from following bad advice on RUclips. I wish this channel had been around at that time. PGT is probably the only channel on RUclips that I've seen offering consistent good advice.
      If you do an internet search for "shroomery simplified cultivation methods" you will find a link list of simple and effective teks. Bod's easy AF teks are a good way to go. The shroomery is the place to go to learn about this hobby. You don't need to post if you don't want to, just follow the teks from trusted cultivators. I found answers to all of my questions there.

    I kinda went overboard >__> so I've got fourteen 5lb blocks going of 5 different phenotypes in a 4x8 tent, with a 4" vivosun fan and a 5 disc HoH mister. Humidity controlled with an Inkbird. But I've never grown a mushroom before and it's SO much fun!!!

      @@travisduggins oh man, I've got lions mane fruiting, pink oysters and pioppino.
      Its incredible how much they grow in just one day! I wish I could post pictures, its so exciting.

      @@travisduggins So, when my blocks were nicely myceliated and white through and through, I put them to fruit but I had just heard a lot and didn't really know what I was doing.
      It took me a couple weeks to figure out that they need ~95% humidity AND regular fresh air exchange with high O2; not just one, then occasionally the other. Once I got the fan and the humidifier running automated and everything dialed in... everything just exploded in pins. The lions mane is balling up along the places I sliced the sides of the block, and the oysters are exploding out of the cuts as well.
      I'm amazed at how FAST they grow, it's incredible how much they can progress in just a day.
      I originally started the off trying to grow in-vitro (inside the bags) and it just wasn't working out for some reason. I ended up wrapping them tight, taping and slicing while getting a good inch or so into the substrate. When they're done in the bag (hoodie tek style) I'm really not sure what's supposed to start the growth.

    • @michaelcarlson2245

      I did a casing layer of just pure coir no vermiculite in the casing layer and my tubs currently look EXACTLY like his at the beginning of the video

    • @PhillyGoldenTeacher
      @PhillyGoldenTeacher  Год назад +5

      A casing layer is not really necessary. Many just do a psudo casing, adding a thin layer on top of the substrate after mixing your grains and substrate together to cover the exposed grains and to create a flat even surface. 🙏

    Hey so I got a question. I started my first round with a grow bag, got it to flowering period and its going excellent, however I'm having a problem, I rubber banded the bag but now that I'm in flowering I see it wasn't good enough and I've got side pins in a little air picket section. I'm kinda wondering what would be the best thing, should I rubber band it better and try to get the mycelium to reclaim it since they're small? Should I try to use like a bag and try to cover the sides from the light? Should I try to open the bag and just put the substrate in a monotub? Or maybe just cut into the bag were the pins are? Very intriguing and super excited to see the finished product! Thanks for all the help PGT!

    Thats it I"m going to start tomorrow thanks to you and 90Sec n Stamets, had the pressure cooker for a month now sitting on the top shelf collecting dust after i scored a big one from an Asian importer. Going to get the wholegrain rice hopefully at wholesale prices tomorrow to start my mycelium madness. Indian or Chinese shop wholegrain rice normally good to use or is cheapest/dont matter or Costco/Super chain bs?
    Got sugar cane mulch or coco coir as a bulk substrate starter
    Can add organic coffee grounds and recycled paper pellets into the substrate mix to add more fuel but the ammonia is strong with a queen and stud
    After inoculating rice with spawn gonna put them in a sealed pvc tube 150mm wide 1.2 meter long covered holes with micropore tape. What size holes would you recommend and how far apart for optimum reflushability?
    The recycled paper is actuallg kitty litter pellets (no poo just m or f pee)
    Was thinking of growing every type if pink blue pearl mushroom however what is the most profitable mushroom one could grow in a reflushable tube that size with that possible substrate concoction?
    Thanks for giving me the real life stuff of Stamets work in action, you have just spawned a big step forward tomorrow on my fun... guy journey lol
