    Thanks for posting this, Coverdale the consummate English gentleman! Whitesnake was my first concert when i was 13, just a couple nights before this in Hartford. July 27 of '88. Can't even explain the effect it had, a kid who knew nothing about anything and never having been to a live concert. I play guitar because of Adrian Vandenberg ( thanks for the inspiration mate!) Great video and audio considering the time, I find this comparable to most cell phone vids today.

    I know Viv Campbell maintains that this lineup was never really a band, but I know he was also biased in his feelings toward David Coverdale. Whereas I think Vandenberg was definitely a serviceable guitarist, I think it was a mistake to not let Campbell take a more prominent position in the band. He was my favorite to replace Sykes if Thin Lizzy had continued, and I think he would have done very well in WS if given free reign. Funny enough, he doesn't seem to mind playing second fiddle in Def Leppard, although his bandmates are probably tolerable, and the paychecks are rolling in hot and heavy. I wish him the best in his recovery from cancer.

      It’s not second fiddle. He plays Steve Clark. Did anybody say Steve was 2nd fiddle to Phil? No.
      They play their main hits live. Most of the hits have Phil’s recorded solos. Steve wrote most of the music.
      Leppard isn’t a riff heavy guitar show off band although their 1st three albums were definitely hard.
      Vivian left that guitar hero thing long ago. Doesn’t mean he can’t still do it, just means there’s not a place for it in Def Leppard. Vivs actually a better guitarist than he was in Dio. More clean and soulful.
      No way is Adrian better than Viv here. Adrian wanted it to be a 1 guitar band.

      Whitesnake hasn't been a band since DC hijacked it from Bernie Marsden&co in the early 80s. Since then he just employs musicians who don't even get to ride the same tourbus with him and nowadays have to all the singing on stage as well...

    I can understand why Vince Neil always won 'Best Lead Singer'. He always worked every inch of the stage, left to right, and back to the centre - all night. David NEVER moved from the centre of the stage! And Adrian was robbed of his title when Steve Vai was brought in. Yes, Adrian had an unfortunate accident that led to Steve's hiring, but I agree with Adrian in an interview where he once said, 'Steve was too flamboyant for Whitesnake.'

    What a difference one year makes, in 1988 here they're a big headline act but only a year before this they were out supporting Motley Crue on the girls' tour although I'd say you could feel the momentum building from that iconic 1987 album.

    • @JClaus1221
      @JClaus1221 5 лет назад +1

      listen, I am no fan of the RRHOF, but it does mean something. Dio should already be in for his work with Rainbow and Black Sabbath along with his work in Dio. Vivian really didn't deserve to go in with Def Leppard, they didn't really make a record that meant anything with him. Dio made some killer LP"s with Sabbath, he should have been inducted with them when they went in.

    • @jb428

      JClaus1221 The RRHOF means nothing, it's just a commercial operation which makes the weirdest decisions. No one gives af.

      After slip of the tongue it became more raw as pre 87..
