    As a first generation Canadian, growing up in my Portuguese culture, all my aunts and uncles would buy entire animals, and the families would be in the basement prepping and cutting the meats, making the sausages (choriços, not chorizos, which are Spanish) and best of all, when processing pork, my cousins and I salivated at the opportunity of snacking on the spicy, crunchy fried pork belly bits that our mums would make on those afternoons. This was back in the '70's and early '80's; we were not well off, so this kind of thing carried over from their days of austerity back in their country. I'm re-instating it here, with my family, ironically for the same reasons. Just bought a sausage attachment for my grinder; choriços for everybody!!

    I spend money on beef for me and regular “junk” food for the wife and one kid still living with us “neither will try being carnivore” and it’s still not too bad. It was easier before everything got more expensive but it’s still manageable being retired on a fixed income.

    Good tips. We were concerned it would be expensive when we starting eating this way a few yrs back. What we have found is that we actually shaved about 20-30% off of our monthly food bill, just in groceries, as we never really ate out much before either. It can be done, though a person has to be willing to put some time & effort into searching a matter out, so to speak.
    It's also important to remember that even if grass-fed/finished is out of the budget, buying grocery store meat is still great, compared to standard way of eating that's pushed in this country.
    *Check out the markdowns early in the day, when the store opens.
    *Also, watch the weekly sales & stock up big when NY Strip, Ribeye, T-bone, etc go on sale for $5.49 lb ~ like they did here in our area this week at Safeway.We bought at least 50lbs just this week.
    *I also buy the awesome fat trimmings they have from these sales for .50 cents a lb~ should be free, but it's not at Safeway.
    *Invest in a small upright or chest freezer so you can store all these meat deals! Ours was less than & $200, & I've seen them used online for $30 to $50.
    *Start asking people everywhere you go about local ranchers & farmers. We're in a new area, so it's grocery store for now~ but not forever! Eventually, we'll have a source- maybe more than one- for local beef, chicken, eggs & raw milk. It's exciting to do the work required for optimal health & nutrition, it truly is. This is my one life, it's important.Thx Lauren

    Shipping is one of the biggest drivers of food price, and bulky low nutrition plant foods are highly wasteful in this regard. The greatest thing about meat is that you can freeze it for months whenever you find a good deal, and if you get a freezer you can buy a half cow. Some fasting also saves a lot of money, also time! And great tips in the video! And Happy Easter!

    Good tips ! Anyhows, I thought here in Finland it was expensive. Here eggs are about 2-2.5 euros, which is about 2.6 dollars for10 egg package. 100% ground beef (10% percent fat), 400g (almost one pound) package costs about 4 euros, which is 4.3 dollars. I think most of Finnish cows are grass feeded by default. But then again, its all relative, the average salaries are also lower, around 2500-3000 euros (before taxes) maybe the normal median.

    • @RV-there-Yet
      @RV-there-Yet 5 месяцев назад +2

      Those are good prices~ also about what I pay here in the US, but you have to know how to shop. A person has to be willing to do some extra research, as well as buy in bulk if they want to get "grass-fed/grass-finished" beef from a rancher. People can buy a whole cow's worth of beef for around $3-$5lb, half a cow for $6-$8lb & so forth~ often going in halves w/another person or family.
      The thing is, if more of us start buying direct from the rancher/farmer, the prices will go down over time...or I would think so.
      A lot of it also depends on what part of the country you live in, city or country & so forth. Some places are far more expensive, but I would personally be driving a long distance if I had to because I cannot stand to overpay for things!🤣Sam in AZ/US

    • @laurenknighthughes

      Based on your answer, i can tell you have a certain attitude about all of this that doesn't match the intention or the nature of the vdieo I created @@dusitnwright4443 Its not pretentious, its literally going to a local farmer. Which is the furthest from that. I am supporting local farmers, teaching others how and why to do so as well which is ultimately better for local communities and economies and you can get deals. Now, again. If you want to use that language and spin it how you will, go ahead and use that and you really don't need to call other people who don't follow your ways names, such as "pretentious." It's just silly and misguided.
      I do not typically shop at costco because I don't like mass produced meat. I thjink it's gross, cruel, its full of hormones and antibiotics (I interviewed a former industrial farmer on this very topic if you have interest) and yes, because I CAN, I do choose to go to local farmer. most of that stuff from costco, etc. is imported from other countries anyways. I prefer to support my local farmer and buy it in bulk. like i said, when I buy in bulk, I get it all for $5 a lb. So... again. Do your thing, but chill out lol. you are quite protective of costco, my friend. I think your approach is a bit aggressive so if you don't agree you can always go elsewhere

    I don't want to be that guy but ... Fruits aren't carnivore, they kick us out of ketosis instantly.
    I can understand some people ( me included maybe in the future ), allowing themselves to have fruits a couple weeks a year at the end of summer...
    But we're not supposed to eat fruits all the year, without globalisation and/or modern agriculture technics it would be impossible.

    • @laurenknighthughes
      @laurenknighthughes  5 месяцев назад +1

      yep, scarce fruits (if you can handle them) is fine. long story short, if you can handle them then do it, if not then dont. i dont have fruit every day, but yes i do sometimes. no its not carnivore, it's considered animal based. but its real food, which in my opinion (when done effectively) is also doable.
