The library out by where I work (Peachtree City, GA) has movies and CDs too. What got me though was that they had comics taking up a row of shelving with manga on the back side. And it was NOT in the kids section.
Former library employee here. People definitely still use libraries. People just use them in different ways. We have tons of digital library materials that people can use with their tablets as well.
Fund your libraries people! Get involved! As a librarian I can tell you that they have so many fun things there to do for all ages. They have things like story time for kids in pj’s, Pokémon and magic the gathering nights, free Xbox access for teens, tons of magazines, Japanese manga, tons of great cookbooks, free tax prep, dual language lessons, public speakers, movies and games to rent, usually a bookstore packed with good stuff cheap and usually a great coffee bar. There are books upon books and tons of digital things so you don’t even have to leave your house. Use them, donate to them and use their services! Places like NYC who are having such problems with homelessness and lack of funding are shutting down and cutting services. Please use them AND teach your kids about their benefits! Most kids don’t even have a library card anymore or understand the benefits. Kids who read succeed!
Dude, every senior citizen in town be chillin at the library. Once you figure it out, the library is the best place in the world!
