Sir......this statement couldn't be more true. I have a 4 year old that REGULARLY hits me with these calm, logical rebuttals. The real test is being able to say "oooof....you're right." And not gag on your own words. Thankfully, the feeling of defeat only happens rarely, because the whole job of being a parent is to raise smart, articulate, level headed people, so these instances usually bring pride and joy to me. I have 3 teenagers and a 4 year old. My life's work is challenging.
Its the way in which its said though. My daughter would say ok mum but if the menu is on my phone can i use itfor that? Not a wise ass remark. 4 yr olds learn that manner from home!
About 5 years ago (when I had 3 toddlers) I stayed home with the kids bc childcare is just too expensive. I got hit by my 3 year old with the logic that if adults have jobs and I don't have a job, I must not be an adult. Let me just say... it stung.

Only reason I didn't go to jail was because they let me call someone to pick up my car to avoid a tow, and out of the friends I hit up, the one friend that answered also happened to be the friend whose SO is a cop. Instead of coming over she just called him, he came over, they voided everything and let me go home. But if I didn't get super fucking lucky by meeting that friend like 2 months prior, they were 100% going to take me to jail over it. Good. Too many parents especially in the past felt like they can dictate what their kids should do without any reason other than the need to assert authority over those they feel they have control over. Just because you gave birth to them, doesn’t mean you can rule over them and think you can talk to them anyway which way and think they won’t remember it to potentially throw it in your face.
It's all in how you raise them. The amazing thing about kids is that they teach you about yourself. If you pay enough attention, they'll make you a better person.

Kids are calling out parents BS now, which is generally a good thing. The inability for parents to receive and accept this, instead choosing to mistakenly perceive it to be disrespect, is why we have SO MANY adults (and their offspring) who SEVERLY LACK accountability, let alone logic, critical thinking skills, and [cap]ability to respectfully debate.

Instead of coming over she just called him, he came over, they voided everything and let me go home. 😂 I’m 27 now, and I still will never call my mother by her real name to her face. I don’t wanna know what kind of hell I will unleash lmfao… your brave 😂

Yeah, that's a GREAT way to respond. Don't get violent... be smarter....lol!

My parents were the kind that said “stay off the electronics” during dinner and proceeded to ignore me and my sibling while being on their own electronics the whole time 😂

And then they are surprised they are not respected… and I am saying that as parent.

@OP that’s trash. 🚮 I’m sorry. 🤦🏾♂️
That was a certified step-parent moment.
100%!! Step-parents don't get that automatic Parent Card privilege, kids make them earn it.
Yeah, that was the vibe I got.
Thanks for this comment 👍👍👍
IDK about that... My brother would often call our mother by her first name as a way to both rebel and show disrespect. I'm not saying that my mom didn't deserve it, but I'm also not going to claim that Susan did.
Susan sounded like she was trying to be reasonable just like all of those teachers who told us "you won't always have a calculator in your hand". It's simply what they grew up experiencing.
2020 changed the world a lot.
@@sisyphusmarble8460Tbh when they earn it they EARN it. If my step-mother and my father gives conflicting order (pretty rare tbh) I will do what my step-mom wants, I know who’s in charge 😂
That child is being intellectually disrespectful. The comeback from Susan should have been, "for each time you call me Susan your phone will be taken from you for a day. As for my right as the adult who pays for the house you live in, the food you eat and my request you leave the phone in the car, you will not get to use any electronics, TV, gaming etc. for the rest of the day. You will write me a full page apology of 500 words explaining why it is important to respect your mother even when you don't like or understand what I tell you." 😂❤😅🎉
why would you punish your child for thinking logically? because thats kind of the point of being a parent, teaching your kid how to use rational thinking to their advantage
@@synmeow Tone is what changed for the CHILD when he said "Well Susan...." That is when he went from wanting to know why to being disrespectful. Had he asked, "why do you get to keep your phone...." and not ended the question with ..."that doesn't seem to practical, does it Susan: he would have been respectfully voicing his intelligent thoughts on the situation. There is a way of respectfully voicing your thoughts and there is being a disrespectful spoiled brat who is trying to get his way. That is what needs to be trained out of him when he is speaking to the woman that gave birth to him and works all day to see to his well being. I would have sat at that table and ordered him a PB&J while I ate a tasty fun meal. He wouldn't get an option to need a menu. He wold learn to voice his thoughts in a respectful manner and not manipulate me, had he been my child.
It’s heartbreaking to see threats of violence toward a child, especially for simply being intelligent or speaking up. No child should ever be hurt for expressing themselves. I hope anyone in this situation finds the support they need to stay safe
@@skyler862 Violence? Who said anything about Violence? LOL Kids abuse parents when they become adults when they are not properly trained. But no one should have to beat a child to train them. Even jobs train you. There are rules and certain ways you have to speak to bosses and customers. That training starts at home. Proper training will determine if a child is successful in life or one that goes from job to job trying to figure out, their entire life, why they can't get ahead, and they keep getting fired and passed up for promotions.
“So then I’ll read the damn menu to you son, and you better pay attention, cuz I’ll only ready it once. We are exercising your listening skills today. How’s that for practical Johnny?” 😊
But why curse at the kid? He said nothing to be upset about.

She turns and meekly replies, "...my name isn't even Susan..."
underrated 😭😭😭

"We'll Susan" would've been my final words. I would have died before a single word after calling my mom by her first name.

It's all in how you raise them. The amazing thing about kids is that they teach you about yourself. If you pay enough attention, they'll make you a better person.
Agreed💯
i assume the mother is on her phone in front of him regularly. of course he thinks its unfair to prevent him from looking at his phone if she does it all the time
Great response!
That is so, so true
🔥 🔥 🔥 it is such a humbling thing to be a parent. They get their bs from us and once we realize, we’ll try to do better. I have to constantly change my approach. I have to pray for wisdom before I talk to my kids bc you need the Most Highs wisdom to deal with them. We can’t use the same unhealthy approaches some of our parents used. It’s making me a better woman. And having a husband who is on the same page helps out a lot. That teamwork will keep them right.
❤ Agreeing with the child is a clear indication that you can take ALL the time you need before becoming a parent!❤😂😂😂😂

Our rule with our kids was you could not use your phone during dinnertime. No discussion.
honestly debating my kid was one of the things i was most excited about when i thought id grow up and have some. being told "because i said so" was one of the most infuriating arguments ive ever heard and shit got heated in my house, id much rather be able to communicate the issues with my kid then end up in a screaming match.
Yeah there has to be a balance. You should explain things to your kid, but there comes a point where you have to make them accept your decisions.
I agree but to some extent. Just make sure they are making the right decisions
I swear that all parents across the America say bc i said so well. Doesn't work anymore i hear parents say the that same Fcking sentence to there children now the children have combacks
@anthonyruth5606 that's because the parents don't have authority anymore. "Because I said so" works only if there's a punishment behind the sentence.
That is fine so long as it's not an emergency. There has to be balance in all things including this.
I once read somewhere that”Children are our mirrors, they reflect back to us our greatest strengths and weaknesses.” If we want our children to show us respect and love we have to show it to them! Being a good parent means you grow up, stop being selfish and be a good example!
I was reading a book last night that had a similar quote
“I tell everyone that just as they say that children mirror their parents, so too all those one comes in contact with are you own mirrors. Therefore, if you give all your heart and try your best to communicate, you are sure to get a similar response. So, please lead a life in which you think of what you can do for you for others, not what others can do your you. Interact with others by trying to give all your heart and doing you best to communicate.” -Buddhist Monk Mitsunaga Kakudo
Truthfully until you remember there's this thing called a school that's probably gonna influence them more
@@loveemsforever If we bond properly with our kids and they learn to trust us early on to meet their physical and emotional needs they will not go too far off the path. @Leomoonmom5 my mom is the kindest, most understanding, caring, wonderful person and me and sisters turned out as good, caring, and thoughtful individuals. My brother on the otherhand could not be more opposite. Is that because of my mom? No, if he was anything like her, he'd be a saint. He went to a different school than my sisters and I and it really shows in his behavior. Really cause my first thought was don't families have a father and he could tell Susan don't worry ill take care of this
When he said "Well, *Susan* ", I physically blinked and flinched in surprise at the audacity.
Edit: Reading the comments makes me realize I should clarify. I wasn't surprised, or "offended" that he called her by her first name, I was surprised he tried to call her by her first name in an attempt to make a snotty remark to express his disagreement. "Mom", "Mommy", and "Mother" are all honorary titles that women work hard to earn, and internationally trying to disrespect it is like a soldier addressing their CO like "Susan" while trying to have an argument. Your parents will always be older than you while they're alive, and where Im from, we respect our elders even if we disagree.
Why? If anything it reminds the parent that the kid is a human as well and all humans deserve same levels of respect.
