2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy is Three Rows of Boxy Utility
HTML-код

- The box is a mighty efficient package. Few vehicles are as square jawed as the new 3-row 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. With its “box-that-it-came-in” design, generation five swallows up passengers and cargo with maximum efficiency. And Hyundai is gone wild with the letter H (you’ll see). Tom Voelk travels to Franklin, TN to check out a fully loaded AWD Calligraphy model with a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Wait for spring and there’ll be a more fuel-efficient hybrid. In the meantime, check out competitors Kia Sorento, Mazda CX90, Toyota Highlander, and Subaru Ascent.
Tom Voelk attended a Hyundai press event for this review. Opinions remain his own.

Looking forward to the Santa Fe Hybrid review!🎉🎉
I really like your videos, They make me feel happy!
I LOVE THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER! The only thing I don't love about my Telluride is that the infotainment, seat position, and dash screen are all managed separately. I should just be able to get into the car and not have to think about anything except the rear view mirror.
Another well-paced review, full of content. I agree: those of us in need of living space could camp 'in' here.
Mr. Evenhoff from Hyundai actually had iPhone shots of him and his wife doing just that.
Great review, I am impress with this Santa Fe Caligrafy, looks like a great deal
I bought a Calligraphy Hybrid and I am so happy!
always great reviews Tom!
One of the best reviews and reviewers that I’ve seen. And I watch them all 😂. Congrats
Always a great review. I have had two Santa Fes and they were both great, glad to see Hyundai is still on it!
Great video, Tom.
☕☕ Happy Tuesday...Thanks for the Entertainment Tom🔥
Just hooked up a Dell 27" 4K monitor to my Mac Laptop ...... your beautiful 4K Hyundai footage got the "first play" here in the office. Wow, both monitor and your footage are awesome :) Keep up the great work.
You didn't mention any (typical) dual-clutch transmission stutters, shudders, or lurching with stop-n-go driving. Maybe Hyundai managed a trick to allow extra slippage (or flywheel damping?) for the sake of relaxed motoring in urban driving. Every DSG I have driven ONLY shifted nice when driven hard, but otherwise felt harsh and grabby when creeping in traffic or through neighborhoods.
For those that know about the dynamic, it was implied. For those who don’t, they know it kicks down quickly.
Have a 22 Calligraphy, and never notice any shuttering or lurching. Actually, the tranny has been great.
Amazing price/quality/ tech and features. Great review. Offered to families at a decent price point (lower trims) esp. Not a sportscar for sure haha but a great road tripper. Bice review and…. we have subscribed.
Nice of Hyundai to revive the Ford Flex with Rover styling cues
Great job, I hope to drive it this week…back to back with the Palisade Ultimate Calligraphy, looked and sat in them today and I was very impressed. I owned a Flex w/ echo-boost and my wife and I loved it… the power and size/comfort…have owned a Palisade ultimate calligraphy since it came out in 2019 and now looking to trade it in. It’ll be interesting to see which one we decide on.
Great review!
A wonderful review of brand new Santa fe. Thank you
Excellent presentation!!
Nice car nice review Tom from new subscriber
gotta love those big vehicles with boosted 4 cylinders...what could go wrong? It's a Hyundai, recall shouldn't be too long coming.
Thank heavens! I have been looking for an actual UTILITY SUV for years now. Finally a boxy sport Ute! Can't wait to see the specs on the hybrid (hopefully PHEV)
DCT is a reliability concern in the future. Despite the warranty, good luck getting it fixed at a reasonable timeframe at the dealership. God forbid you own it past it’s manufacture warranty.
I was looking forward to buying one but I’m going to wait for long term reliability reviews.
Already have a deposit down for the Hybrid Calligraphy. Looking forward to May when we should get it...
Took notice of a continuous line of bean-shaped crossovers crossing my path at a stoplight yesterday. A nice Porsche Macan caught my eye first, but, as the procession continued, I was reminded how numbingly similar they all are, regardless of what they cost. So, I welcome box-shaped cars. As a matter of fact, I welcome any design that takes us away from the conformity of yet another bean posing as a means of transportation.
Well put.
Are you saying these beans are not means of transportation?
Nice Van.
It's beautiful video
I like this a lot - because of the boxy styling - but I sure don't like the black out trim. The squared off rear end really adds to its utility.
Uh, Tom, don’t promise another review on the design elements please. I’m still waiting on the 2nd promised Lucid review.
Glowing review on this one was always nice.
The second Lucid didn’t happen because information that I shot demonstrating some tech changed and it was no longer accurate. C’est la vie.
Excellent, Tom. Thank goodness it's not sporty. I'll put it on my list!
Huey Lewis and the News would agree!😂
Tom, My enthusiasm for highly functional, boxy designs is as great as my distaste for DCT transmissions. With an 8 speed, torque converter automatic in the Hyundai/Kia parts bin, why did they install a DCT in this new model? 🤔
What’s the issue with dual clutches? I’ve had a couple in performance vehicles that were great, and no issues. Fords implementation was a disaster but that was their fault. I agree though I don’t know why this has a dual clutch, although it’s still better than a CVT.
Honda and Toyota don't offer them in their cars for a reason. Unproven long term reliability. @@ajgraham1983
this is why i’m waiting for a hybrid i’m
not spending 50k on a doomed DCT
Good point, some their DCTs have been terribly unreliable and herky jerky in stop/go traffic
Because they already offered the same combination in other vehicles (including old model) plus a traditional auto does lower MPG. Only by a few mind you but there is a difference.
Let's see Paul Allen's Hyundai Santa Fe
Great review Tom, a little extra punny today.
Ford Flex was the exact same thing I thought when I saw a 24 Santa Fe in person. While it is a nice vehicle, I can't consider a vehicle that uses a DCT. It doesn't matter how many times they tweak those things, they just aren't compatible with our stop-and-go traffic and hilly terrain. They need to relegate the DCT to hybrid and plug-in hybrid platforms where an electric motor can cover the weakness of the DCT.
The interior cleverness on this vehicle is leagues about the 2021 Palisade that my partner owns (and loves). The Palisade's interior storage is abysmal in comparison so it's nice to see Hyundai took notes and made storage a higher priority for their new SUVs. Hopefully the 2nd gen Palisade continues it.
Anyway, this car looks amazing and truly looks like it hangs out with Ford Flexes on the weekend.
“If the late, great Hubert H. Humphrey were alive today. . . .” I come to praise your grammar, Tom! “If” and “were” indeed go together, for it is stating a possibility. Good journalism!
Good journalism or good luck? You decide.
@@DrivenCarReviewsWell, now you know----that ol' subjunctive----professionals gotta know. And, yes, you are a very fine journalist. You know there are worse!
HHH, ah Minnesota memories! 🙂
First-person singular and third-person singular subjects use "was", and all others use "were".
@@TinLeadHammerThat is true for the past tense. But for things that are not real--or even not yet real--"were" is used for all persons; that's the subjunctive. Best of all, it's so easy. It is always "were" for the subjunctive. "If I were as knowledgeable about cars as Mr. Voelk, I might make great car reviews, too."
Design based on 'boxes' sounds like something I see every day in my 1989 Volvo 240.
Almost used that Volvo line
This looks like one of those blatant Chinese Land Rover rip-offs.
The only minor grievance is the rear taillights. But I'd still buy one in a heartbeat. I also think the pricing is a little high; competes too much with the Palisade (in price).
If you have 2 kids -> Palisade.
If not, or just 1 -> Santa Fe.
@@kiwan5425If not then a Fiat 500 or a bicycle.
In the UK Santa Fe is the biggest option available aha@@kiwan5425
Hi mr. Tom, would you reckon this is a better deal than the Sorento? And how palpable is the difference between this and a premium SUV (think Touareg, X5, GLE)?
Only you can decide if it's a better deal than the Kia since design, interior etc are of personal taste. The Hyundai is a more useful box. The Santa Fe looks quite good inside, I think anyone worth their salt would know that the BMW and Mercedes use higher quality plastics and materials. The question is, is it worth the extra $20K. I would consider the Hyundai high value, not luxury.
Hyundai needs to update their logo. It looks like it came right off one of the cheap crappy cars they sold on the 90’s
Actually, it is updated.
Nice work! Solid video, as usual. I had a similar review of it. Hard to say much bad about it, for what it is.
Great to see you there Bryon!
The maintenance alone would lean one to the Santa Fe.
Not really a fan of Hyundai's new styling, my wife and I went to a Hyundai dealership a couple weeks ago on our first thought was "what on Earth did they do to the Kona!"
Wow
Reminiscent of the Ford Flex.
It's growing on me... Initially those rear taillights looked way too low.
But I think Hyundai is going to sell a ton of these.
Why does this vehicle seem so big.? I keep thinking it's too big for me. Yet, an RX 350 is longer and wider. An Acura MDX is 8 inches longer and 4 inches wider. That's crazy. I guess it's not too big
Yup, one of the smaller 3 rows on the market.
FORD FLEX
Would upgrade to this from my 2020 Santa Fe but why go from a 0% APR loan to a 3-6% APR loan?
Personally? If the 2020 was running fine, I wouldn’t. That’s not a great investment. Just being pragmatic.
It gives me a Ford Flex vibe.
I wished Hyundai offered the 2-row Santa Fe.
That's what the Tuscon is for. Santa Fe is going upmarket. It has to compete to the small 3rd row Highlander.
They do , just not in the US
Similar power output as the Mazda 2.5L Turbo motor.
Looks like a Ford Flex but modern
Once the price for the Santa Fe goes above 40k, you’re probably better off with the Palisades that has a V6, and a legit 3rd row.
Looks really good, I wish Hyundai/Kia could get a handle on their engine problems. Also why do manufacturers put white interiors in family cars?
List of known major issues with the 2.5t or any Smartstream engine:
*This page intentionally left blank*.
You're conflating this with the Theta 2; an engine it shares almost nothing with.
I suggest ordering a darker interior.
All Tesla models have two wireless charging pads
Can’t wait until this ‘return to functional’ styling makes its way to the Tucson. The current ‘weird for weird’s sake’ styling of their compact SUV is the only thing keeping me from buying one.
Not guaranteed that it will use the box shape. Hyundai doesn’t carry designs across its lineup.
DCT and trail / off-road terrain just don’t go well at all! Look at all the Seltos’ sold with the dry DCT that smoke out or get burnt smell even doing little bit hilly drives, forget off-road ! Surprised this guy didn’t call it out 😅
Ever since I saw that Photoshop that corrected the taillight placement, I can't unsee it. The interior is impressive but those taillights are horrendous.
"Corrected" the taillight placement by putting it on a moving piece of bodywork; a violation of federal law.
DERP.
@@tim3172 Nope. Audi and others have done it for years. You simply have to include small redundant lights down by the bumper section that activate if the tailgate is raised.
Well that’s subjective because I think it looks fantastic.
Kids today don't know who Huey and the News is and that is so sad
There's a new Broadway musical. AND the Back to the Future musical.
I prefer the look of the Palisade....this is way too boxy
ford just quits, we could be on mark 7 of the ford flex.. they blew it again..
More options more problems
If that horrible looking Sante Fe was a Made in America, Ford or Chevy... Hyundai bots would not have one good word to say about the vehicle.😂
FWIW, Santa Fe is made in America….
Hyundai Kia is leaving Toyota and Honda in the dust
Where is the gear shit?
3:40
Kinda slow for 277hp and over 300lb tq.
Nope! ugly as it gets with this beauty! Hyundai isn’t the price champion no longer $50K+ and they need that warranty cause it will break!
range rover velar copy
no need to apologize for " nice hotel and good food" false modesty...worst... it's part of the Perks. enjoy:)
Not an apology. Just stating the facts.

@@reserva120you’re so maga (manipulated and gotten angry) it hurts.
1980s Euro-style, blown up to unhealthy proportions. This is a severely obese Matra Rancho. Many Italian designs of the time had an awkwardly placed thin stripe of rear lighs like Fiat Ritmo or Alfa-Romeo 75.
The most functional shape is a parallelepiped, that is, a semi trailer, a rail car or a VW bus. Ultimately, it is about the usage of the available volume, so the egg-shaped 1995 Toyota's "family module", the Previa, is more functional than this tank. Even the 2000 Town & Country makes more sense. And don't get me started with the cheap tablets.
So Hyundai brought back the Ford Flex! They are great copycats!
Copied the Ford Flex…ugly🤮
Hyundai killed Santa Fe, is hideous..
I have zero respect for this brand. They
blatantly copy designs from others and then claim it’s original. Even the steering wheel is a poor copy from Rover.
