I LOVE THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER! The only thing I don't love about my Telluride is that the infotainment, seat position, and dash screen are all managed separately. I should just be able to get into the car and not have to think about anything except the rear view mirror.
Just hooked up a Dell 27" 4K monitor to my Mac Laptop ...... your beautiful 4K Hyundai footage got the "first play" here in the office. Wow, both monitor and your footage are awesome :) Keep up the great work.
Took notice of a continuous line of bean-shaped crossovers crossing my path at a stoplight yesterday. A nice Porsche Macan caught my eye first, but, as the procession continued, I was reminded how numbingly similar they all are, regardless of what they cost. So, I welcome box-shaped cars. As a matter of fact, I welcome any design that takes us away from the conformity of yet another bean posing as a means of transportation.
You didn't mention any (typical) dual-clutch transmission stutters, shudders, or lurching with stop-n-go driving. Maybe Hyundai managed a trick to allow extra slippage (or flywheel damping?) for the sake of relaxed motoring in urban driving. Every DSG I have driven ONLY shifted nice when driven hard, but otherwise felt harsh and grabby when creeping in traffic or through neighborhoods.
“If the late, great Hubert H. Humphrey were alive today. . . .” I come to praise your grammar, Tom! “If” and “were” indeed go together, for it is stating a possibility. Good journalism!
@@DrivenCarReviewsWell, now you know----that ol' subjunctive----professionals gotta know. And, yes, you are a very fine journalist. You know there are worse!
@@TinLeadHammerThat is true for the past tense. But for things that are not real--or even not yet real--"were" is used for all persons; that's the subjunctive. Best of all, it's so easy. Thank heavens! I have been looking for an actual UTILITY SUV for years now. Finally a boxy sport Ute! Can't wait to see the specs on the hybrid (hopefully PHEV)
Tom, My enthusiasm for highly functional, boxy designs is as great as my distaste for DCT transmissions. With an 8 speed, torque converter automatic in the Hyundai/Kia parts bin, why did they install a DCT in this new model? 🤔
What’s the issue with dual clutches? I’ve had a couple in performance vehicles that were great, and no issues. Fords implementation was a disaster but that was their fault. I agree though I don’t know why this has a dual clutch, although it’s still better than a CVT.
Because they already offered the same combination in other vehicles (including old model) plus a traditional auto does lower MPG. Only by a few mind you but there is a difference.
Great job, I hope to drive it this week…back to back with the Palisade Ultimate Calligraphy, looked and sat in them today and I was very impressed. I owned a Flex w/ echo-boost and my wife and I loved it… the power and size/comfort…have owned a Palisade ultimate calligraphy since it came out in 2019 and now looking to trade it in. It’ll be interesting to see which one we decide on.
Amazing price/quality/ tech and features. Great review. Offered to families at a decent price point (lower trims) esp. Not a sportscar for sure haha but a great road tripper. Bice review and…. we have subscribed.
DCT is a reliability concern in the future. Despite the warranty, good luck getting it fixed at a reasonable timeframe at the dealership. God forbid you own it past it’s manufacture warranty. I was looking forward to buying one but I’m going to wait for long term reliability reviews.
Uh, Tom, don’t promise another review on the design elements please. I’m still waiting on the 2nd promised Lucid review. Glowing review on this one was always nice.
Ford Flex was the exact same thing I thought when I saw a 24 Santa Fe in person. While it is a nice vehicle, I can't consider a vehicle that uses a DCT. It doesn't matter how many times they tweak those things, they just aren't compatible with our stop-and-go traffic and hilly terrain. They need to relegate the DCT to hybrid and plug-in hybrid platforms where an electric motor can cover the weakness of the DCT.
The only minor grievance is the rear taillights. But I'd still buy one in a heartbeat. I also think the pricing is a little high; competes too much with the Palisade (in price).
The interior cleverness on this vehicle is leagues about the 2021 Palisade that my partner owns (and loves). The Palisade's interior storage is abysmal in comparison so it's nice to see Hyundai took notes and made storage a higher priority for their new SUVs. Hopefully the 2nd gen Palisade continues it. Anyway, this car looks amazing and truly looks like it hangs out with Ford Flexes on the weekend.
Not really a fan of Hyundai's new styling, my wife and I went to a Hyundai dealership a couple weeks ago on our first thought was "what on Earth did they do to the Kona!"
Hi mr. Tom, would you reckon this is a better deal than the Sorento? And how palpable is the difference between this and a premium SUV (think Touareg, X5, GLE)?
Only you can decide if it's a better deal than the Kia since design, interior etc are of personal taste. The Hyundai is a more useful box. The Santa Fe looks quite good inside, I think anyone worth their salt would know that the BMW and Mercedes use higher quality plastics and materials. The question is, is it worth the extra $20K. I would consider the Hyundai high value, not luxury.
Why does this vehicle seem so big.? I keep thinking it's too big for me. Yet, an RX 350 is longer and wider. An Acura MDX is 8 inches longer and 4 inches wider. That's crazy. I guess it's not too big
Ever since I saw that Photoshop that corrected the taillight placement, I can't unsee it. The interior is impressive but those taillights are horrendous.
@@tim3172 Nope. Audi and others have done it for years. You simply have to include small redundant lights down by the bumper section that activate if the tailgate is raised.
Gee, nobody knew that a “ Boxy “ design can have more volume & space..!! We had to be told that by an Automotive Designer…!! And in the next generation, the “ Boxy “ design will be tossed out & probably go back to a more rounded design..!!
Can’t wait until this ‘return to functional’ styling makes its way to the Tucson. The current ‘weird for weird’s sake’ styling of their compact SUV is the only thing keeping me from buying one.

DCT and trail / off-road terrain just don’t go well at all! Look at all the Seltos’ sold with the dry DCT that smoke out or get burnt smell even doing little bit hilly drives, forget off-road ! Surprised this guy didn’t call it out 😅
1980s Euro-style, blown up to unhealthy proportions. This is a severely obese Matra Rancho. Many Italian designs of the time had an awkwardly placed thin stripe of rear lighs like Fiat Ritmo or Alfa-Romeo 75. The most functional shape is a parallelepiped, that is, a semi trailer, a rail car or a VW bus. Ultimately, it is about the usage of the available volume, so the egg-shaped 1995 Toyota's "family module", the Previa, is more functional than this tank. Even the 2000 Town & Country makes more sense. And don't get me started with the cheap tablets.
I have zero respect for this brand. They blatantly copy designs from others and then claim it’s original. Even the steering wheel is a poor copy from Rover.
I just leased the TRX. The hybrid is out, but I barely go anywhere, so I was ok with the gas only. I loved the big tires with blacked rims. I got it white and it looks just like storm trooper. I'm in love already.
Looking forward to the Santa Fe Hybrid review!🎉🎉
Another well-paced review, full of content. I agree: those of us in need of living space could camp 'in' here.
Mr. Evenhoff from Hyundai actually had iPhone shots of him and his wife doing just that.

Hyundai needs to update their logo. It looks like it came right off one of the cheap crappy cars they sold on the 90’s

Would upgrade to this from my 2020 Santa Fe but why go from a 0% APR loan to a 3-6% APR loan?
