Actually love the design.
There's no denying the rear is the weakest part of the vehicle, but it's still nice, it's just that the rest of it is gorgeous, especially in that Matte Copper colour.
Seriously Hyundai/Genesis have become my favourite Asian automaker. Their cars are gorgeous. Never thought I'd say that about a Korean brand.
They did it to maximize practicality of the rear, so I don’t mind it if the back is functional. 😊
You had me (almost) until the matte and color, both! Whenever I see matte I think either wrap or sandstorm.
The back is actually my fav part, it the front that I don’t like, and it looks low, I bought the limited trim and honestly the back looks good in person the front look very squished down to me honestly
I hated the back but kinda liking it now, hope they have heaps of spare tail lights just in case for rear ended accidents
I was going to say - the trend, going on well over a decade now amongst many brands, of zero semblance of a protective bumper front and rear is bothersome. (The rear on this would seem to be an extreme example of that). The most minor fender bender and parking lot scrapes, especially what with all the sensors = $$$.
17:00 Dude they cant put the kitchen sink into that car like Range Rover did because of the delta in asking price. They left out some stuff. Suspension is a big one. You always pay more for that. Same for motos. You have to pay for the higher trim to get Ohlins... which i loooooove. 🥰
Love it! Even the rear :)
I don't know much about Hyundai and their reliability but this car does show a heck of a lot of attention to to detail. Hyundai really took the time to focus on the small stuff. Individually its not that much of a big deal, but collective it make this car in many way more coveted than its luxury rival.
The cubbies for example. You can never have too many of them especially in an SUV, where 'utility' is paramount. The way the center console can open from the front or rear, and the tray at the bottom for rear seat passengers is an ingenious design.
Then there's not only a temperate control for the 3rd-row but a fan control. That's a big deal when you're relocated to steerage and the front and center passenger are blocking all the air flow to back. You no longer have to roast while you wait for the cabin to cool down.
Second, the ability to raid the thigh support even on the second row where car manufactures start to cut costs and comfort. The only interior I'd add would have been a cover for the center console. That large area will tend to trap dust and debris after a time. The cover also protects your phone or other items from prying eyes. I agree with the polarizing rear-end. The brake and signal lights should never be below the belt-line.
That steering wheel looks so Land Rover
Great, in depth review, as usual. Too chiseled for my taste. The rear end smacks of the bad design cues from a Carnival. The dog bone tail lights need to go as well.
Xrt without dct needs to be better spec'd on the inside. Maybe next year HMG. I need 360 surround cameras. Or merge the Calligraphy interiors features with the XRT mechanicals. I'll buy it😊
What has XRT special other than wheels and some cladding and underbody protection?
@@MrTeslaXit's the non-dct transmission, higher tow rating, and yes, 18 inch rims. I don't care about exterior aesthetics. Other than mechanical fundamentals fine right, the xrt is absolutely bare bones and disappointing.
As a follow up to this, I did end up seeing the inside of an SEL after this shoot and have to say the tactile feel, color and trim hold up well even at the cheaper price point.
This with Rav4 prime internals would be perfect car.
An NA 2.5L 4cyl hybrid? No thank you.
They are bringing an HEV and a PHEV of this. The HEV will only be US$500 more on most trims.
@@MotoManTVGreat. I hope plugin gets new tech. Competition is getting though as Mitsu Outlander is getting upgrade over even current large 20kwh battery for Europe. (Europe is for now best market for phevs because CO2 tax) At least give a heat pump and bigger electric motors to have more usability.
Good commentary
My pleasure!
Agree... Auto Brake Hold should always be ON!... no need for extra button.
I'm not in the market for a Hyundai, but I do like that color and matte finish.
4:09 i listened to this many times, can't understand how Hyundai could get rid of the delay.
I saw one in person the other day and it looks much smaller than in pictures or videos, it does remind me of the size of the ford flex, easy egress and Ingres very cool interior, but at $50k may be a hard sell for the top trims.
Not my speed but not bad. I can only imagine what a matte finish is gonna look like on a daily driven baby buggy in a year or two. You know damn well it's gonna be run through car washes and not hand washed with the correct cleaners.
+1 I commented the same elsewhere but I'll say again, whenever I see matte I think either wrap or sandstorm!
Depends on how well the owner takes care of it. True for all paints.
Would be interested in this vs the Palisade comparison.
Love the look but it looks tiny. Did it get smaller?
It certainly is different, but I’m so glad I bought a 23 Palisade,my opinion Palisade has better everything.
Does this calligraphy have puddle light illumination at night?
It has door handle lights but no puddle lights.
ZONK - See 13:20
The Auto Hold feature does stay on unless you shut it off.
9:24 does it ride as good as a Genesis let's say the gv60 / gv70 ? Or better ?
I would say better. More supple.
6:15 where's Waldo. LMAO. It's a bridge too far.
A H-shaped suspension bridge too far. Jk
Cheaper than the new qx80
If I needed a 3 row it would be the good looking Palisade over this beast !
Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine rear.
HA!
Fair price. 🤑
And transmission????
Watch the video again (or for the first time?). He mentioned that.
Hyundai Kia is leaving Toyota Honda in the dust
As long as they maintain their formula for reliability, neither of them have anything to worry about from Hyundai. As for the other manufactures, they need to look out.
So, here's what makes me laugh. Hyundai claim they've stepped away from copying other manufacturers and yet, this Santa Fe is literally a Land Rover with a BMW instrument cluster & infotainment.
Just to clarify - it's how the instrument cluster and infotainment is mounted to the dash.
And you believe them?
Go to Canada, save 25%
Haha looks like Ford sold Hyundai the design of the Flex!
You didn’t do that Santa Fe justice by putting side by side with a Range Rover from the back. The Santa Fe back looks like an old van.
Funny, everyone on that drive was comparing it to a Defender and I am the only one that put side by side with a Land Rover product;)
lol… I thought Defender is a Land Rover product 🤔
The exterior is the exact same shape as a Ford Flex, including the rear. There is a video on another RUclips channel showing them side by side
Santa Fe didn’t need to become 3-rows. That’s what the Palisade is for. Why make it so big and so unattractive from the rear view. Otherwise it’s a nice looking boxy people hauler. Hyundai and Kia giving consumers a lot for their money and a great warranty to boot. The (former?) sister Kia Sorento I guess is on its own now since it didn’t get the larger redo.
The Kia Sorento already is a 3 row and is similar in size to this.
@@donlavette7523 it’s barely a 3 row…had one…Santa Fe is longer and has more cargo space. Different packaging. The prior model was more like the Sorento. This one…Range Rover Discovery for half the price.
You and @donlavette7523 are both right. The Sorento is within an inch. What Hyundai has done is basically fill the tweener niche by matching its corporate stablemate again with an occasional use third row offering. I think there initially may be some head scratching amongst buyers on the dealer's lots, but the Palisade / Telluride twins are still a full step larger than this, some 7-8 inches in overall length, and 3-4 inches width, both of which is a fair amount in car-dom. A lot of the difference, both visceral and measureable, with the Santa Fe is packaging.
Wheelbase is the same between the two. Length is practically the same mainly due to design details at each end.
@pokerfred68 That is incorrect. The 24 Sante Fe is similar in size, including wheel base, and configuration to the 21+ Sorento.
Looks worse in person to be honest. When I saw one in the wild, I was a little sad
Hyundai = GARBAGE! For $50K? Thats a joke right?
ooooh...but you get a 2.5 turbo 4 cylinder with that 4600lb beast!!!!!!!!
Aww, come show me on the doll where those mean H/K/G folks hurt you.
Intro: Are you purposely gesticulating. I feel like you are laying it on thick with the expressiveness. 😆 Dont stop, I'm into it. Its just curious. 😁
Weighs as much as my IONIQ 5 Limited, all-wheel-drive and cost as much. That plug in hybrid needed strapped to the 2.5 Turbo to torque fill the DCT and add efficiency with a genuine heat pump for a real world capable 39 miles of electric range. Include the correct inlet please. 17:47
I just got calligraphy. OMG it's super quite, can't feel jerking and the Bose sound is sooo perfect in my ear.
I just bought the 2024 Santa Fe XRT. The biggest fail is it doesn't have a glasses case under the rear mirro.
Nice suv good review brother.
Damn you algo!!! Shakes fist!!!
*looks like the Ford Flex, once you see it you can't un see it* hahaha..
I owned a 21 santa fe caligraphy loved it 2.5 drovenup down east cost no problems, went to trade in for a bigger car a palsada test drove both, the new santa fe calligraphy black was amazing could not help it i brought it nice in every way only hold back is gas milage, i have owned toyota Honda Chrysler but after 36k 60k power train miles at best you are on your own my sister owns a 2014 hyndia just went over 100k miles she has been covered for 10 yrs also bumper to bumper is 6ok if anything goes wrong at all! Its a no brainer for the average person i even thought of getting geicos 100k policy for insurance but it still isnt better than the hyundai warranty if i break down on highway free tow free oil changes rotate tires for 3 yrs you can save $900 in oil changes and rotation for 3 yrs! No brainer
Overall, a really nice looking SUV. Too much real estate above the real lights. Other than that, it’s sharp. I would still take my 2023 Santa Fe Calligraphy. Don’t need 3 rows, which is the ONLY option on the 2024.. Love my pano roof. Why did that disappear? Would like a little less buttons on mine and wireless CarPlay, but it works.
I like the video just for you Motoman lol, my friends wouldn’t watch car reviews for the sake of it, they not weird like me.
We're all kinda weird:)
Very luxury.
I think that's coming, Hyundai has turned the design corner with German design and engineering.
Ty for this video! 👍
What is the name of the interior color by chance?
Direct injection, turbo, and dual clutch? Make sure you sell or trade it in before 99k miles, or you you will give your mechanic lots of $$.
I can't help seeing a vertically stretched 1st gen Geo Metro every time I see the back end of the Santa Fe. It's like a giant double decker sh!+box.
A gamma ray closet??? Uncle Putin. Is that you? And the Ionizing radiation machine must be in the trunk I guess.
I understand that they are having issues with that transmission on them Santa Cruz.
Yes I just bought one 3 days ago and it's in the shop now
So what is your take then? Good video.
Can you start a farming channel?
It kinda reminds me of the Jetour T2, in a good way. It's a decent looking vehicle & a nice contrast to the bulbous Palisade, but they went a bit overboard with the "H"s. The interior is cool though and Hyundai doesn't get enough credit for the Morse code steering wheel badge, very neat detail.
Agreed on the morse code . . .
Meh. Trying to give it off road looks driven by soccer moms, who should probably drive a minivan for it's usefulness. $50K today and $30K in 3 years...makes me want to go out an buy one. SMH! Not you George, but I feel some of these youtube reviewers are part salesman. Trying to convince us this is something it isn't.
I'm actually purchasing a new car. Originally, just to look like shit. So I went out to all the luxury dealerships. Range rover, Ford broncos, lexus, modern trucks, BMW's, mercedes, etc.......Never expected to like hyundais interior better. For real man. it will change you. It definitely impacted my opinion when I drove it. It feels 2x more expensive than a land rover. Better functionality than BMWs and mercedes. I was impressed man. You should try driving one. the interior feels so much better once you are in one. But when you think about evaluation, in a 5 year period it'll lose 40% of its value. Best car devaluation is toyota tundra, modern upper trim, 30% loss, 61k. Toyota: %18,300 loss. Hyundai limited trim 46k: 18,400 loss. But considering many luxury vehicles are premium gas or 19mpg like trucks. With the hybrid model, you end up spending minimum $2k less per year on this car. In my don't give a shit what other think about the brand, I can confidently say, I liked the Hyundai interior the best, best hybrid luxury option. Its not meant to be a outright sold vehicle. More of a trade in or keep it for a long time. You're just not the right consumer for it and thats totally fine.
What car doesn't depreciate?
Toyotas new land cruiser and 4 runner still have a better design and technology 😊
I can see where you are coming from on design but very different in that both of those are body on frame and this is a unibody CUV.
But not a better interior. Hyundai competes closer to Lexus that it does Toyota.
Not only is it an ugly design, but it’s an ugly color, and an ugly finish. They hit the trifecta of ugly.
True for half the cars on the road these days. Like BMW. Every car they make is ugly.
Sorry but it may very well be a good vehicle but there's no way I'm laying out $50g + for a Hyundai, especially a 4-cyl one.
The Toyota RAV4 Prime is $50k, and the Santa Fa has a far more premium look.
