Great video, Honda wanted to charge me $900 for a new pump and another $400 to replace it. I watched your video and picked up a used pump off Ebay for $50 and a bottle of power steering fluid and a couple of o-rings from Honda for another $7. Your video was spot on and the diagram of the belt and pulleys was spot on. I didn't look at the belt before I removed it but your video with the belt diagram saved the day. The used pump works great and I no longer hear any winding noise from the power steering pump. Thanks again.

Two thoughts. One, you can use the rubber cap provided with new pump to prevent fluid from pouring out of the old pump as you remove it. Two, if you move the belt to the side rather than remove it completely, you don't have to rethread completely. Saves a few headaches. Great video! Thank you.
Love these two tips. I will be doing this tomorrow. I dont have a vise, is it practical to remove the pulley wheel in situ ?
I’ve removed belts in their entirety in the past because it’s easier to clean if you spill any oil. It’s easy to clean oil off metal but harder on rubber. It can make the belt squeak if it’s not clean enough. Coolant is especially bad at making belts squeak
I did the very thing you suggested without reading your comment. These videos are great for the do it yourself people like me.
Heartfelt thank you from a stay-at-home mom/nursing student! This saved me so much money I'll be able to put toward school! I will add that it was much easier for me to get the belt tension loosed up if I didn't put the low-pressure hose on the new pump yet, gave me just a little more room. Superb step-by-step, thank you sir!

Worked like a charm! Such a great college level course on performing surgery to improve directional response for Old Blue! She has just over 220k and still going strong.
Thank you so much the shop was trying to charge me $450 and I save $350 with this video thanks. Easy job 👍
Wow Rip off I brought mine from 1aauto $151 altogether with tax and $90 for labor

Great video, very clear. I didn't have the right extension to get my wrench on the bottom bolt with the pulley in the way so I took it off while still mounted. It seems easier this way, didn't have to use the vice, I jammed an open ended wrench into the pulley and the bolt came loose with a breaker bar. Reassembled the same way. Thanks!
Great video. Just a couple things-
Torque spec for the pulley is 47 ft.lbs.
Also i would flush the system completely before installing the new pump.
And its a good idea to remove the reservoir completely and clean the filter/screen on the bottom of it to be safe.
Was thinking the same thing. It wouldn't take much more effort to flush the whole system. It can be done without the engine running. Numerous videos on the tube showing how.
How do you flush
Thank you very much for all the videos you post. I use them all the time to help work on my 2008 Honda pilot.
Zip tied the belt to front and left breaker bar on tensioner, never had to put belt back on other pulleys. Also held the pump and used impact gun and pulley came right off
+Peter Grant Thanks for the feedback!
Great instruction. I don’t know if my tensioner had been replaced or not but the fitting socket for mine was 19mm. it’s amazing how much leverage is needed to loosen the tensioner!!! Thanks for helping by making this video! Well worth the time and investment.
I love my 06 pilot. Honda has really got it down on how to make a vehicle easy to repair. You pay more up front for the vehicle but so much time and money is saved in repairs. Shout out to Honda.
Thanks so much, I was about to pay $230, but it's really just 4 bolts, I really appreciate it..
That is some quality and very neat work. It make me wanna become a mechanic.
Good video. The diagram to put the belt back on saved my behind. The way you explained it didn't cut it. I did like how you told the exact size sockets to use. I got it done in about an hour and a half.
This is going to be such a helpful video, love the professional job you did. Thankyou!
Excellent Video. I have watch quite a few now and you guys have saved me a ton of thrown wrenches and endless flowing of vulgarity. My wife and neighbors thank you. LOL
😂😂 I can totally identify with vulgarities and thrown tools
i was stuck on the bolt at 2:20 for two days. It was completely rounded and I wasn’t able to turn it even with vice grips or a flare nut wrench. Eventually, I used a hacksaw to cut the line at the head and just tapped on an extractor socket and it came right off. If anyone’s experiencing trouble with the two bolts/nuts that go into the steering rack, this is the way.
I do love 1A auto videos, best on the web

Great video, just wish I had a vise to make this job easier on me but I always find a way. Thanks, now to get to work on my van
i like how you show prefilling of the pump, most videos don't show this. turning the wheels to remove air is best done with the engine off first (3-4 full turns) before turning on engine and doing it again.
If one were to ask for more from a how to video they would swiftly receive my wrath. Well done and gratitude.

I would not re-use that pinch clamp. love this video, will be doing this repair for a friend in a couple weeks. good homework session. thank you for a great video. prior to this did not consider the little o-ring, total pro-tip!
would you generally recommend replacing the pulley belt while doing this repair?
Muchas gracias por sus vídeos, me fueron de gran ayuda pará mí Honda Pilot 2005, thanks 1A /Auto

Beautiful job man
Thank you
Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
Thanks for Your time Good vídeo vos bless You.
Very nice and clear video
honda tried to tell me i needed a new power steering pump but i already knew all i needed was a new high pressure Oring. replaced the oring myself, no more noise and still going strong 4 years later
Where you get the o rings?
My pump fell off what is the part called where you screw in the pump.? Its attached to the motor. Bracket.? Ive been looking up the name and no one knows it. The pump just fell off beguase that part broke and i dont know how to get the part
Does the new O-ring that goes on the high pressure line come with the purchase of the pump?
No, had to get that from Honda for $2.
No you have to buy it separately. The dealership sell them and are less than 5 dollars for both o rings
I was able to follow step by step, I can still hear the sound but not as allowed like before. Wondering if it will go away in a couple of days?
La verdad buenos tutoriales
Excellent video,thanks for the help.
+Juan Tovar Thanks for the feedback!
Good video thanks
How long should this process take typically if you did it yourself and if you payed a shop how much would it cost?
Where can I find the o-ring part? I tried replacing it without and the high pressure line is now leaking power steering fluid. How should I go about cleaning it?
How do you know if it’s the pump that needs replaced?
Good video ty.

Excellent, great, and clean 👍
Hello. I have a 2006 Honda Pilot and oil leaked on my alternator. I’ve read that spool valve can be culprit but I don’t think the 2006 Honda Pilot has the spool valve on top of the alternator idk. Does it? What could be the problem? My steering wheel was making noise and to find out I had no oil in there and now it’s so hard to steer. Can steering pump be the cause of my oil falling on top of the alternator ? Thank you
Hi im just trying to change the pulley not the whole pump. I typed in power steering pulley replacement and nothing is popping up on RUclips. Any suggestions? Or is this job only replacing the whole thing. Thanks in advance to who replies.
Do pumps come with high pressure line replacement seals?
The pulley is not "pressed" on. It is splined. So it isn't press fit. Also the pulley will go on both ways so you can put it on wrong. You said it only goes on one way.
Otherwise good video. Inciteful comments, good lighting, and thank you for using a cameraman or woman.
Great video! Thank you very much!
+MrJohnnebgood Thank you for the feedback!
nice and calming background music...……..
I am using the exact socket wrench and extension and can not reach the bottom Bolt. Idk if the 05 pilot is different?
My mechanic says a special tool is needed to remove the hose. I didn't see anything special on your list. Does anyone know what he might have been saying and which tool?
Have many pressures in the bolts thanks?
Now That's how to make a Video!
My 2007 Pilot’s tension pulley does not have a 14mm bolt.
+1A Auto Parts Hey there great video. The link you provided it says on the website that it is for Honda Odyssey and not for Pilot.
Good catch! The link for the 2005-2008 Honda Pilot Power Steering Pump can be found here: www.1aauto.com/acura-tl-honda-pilot-power-steering-pump/i/1aspp00168?f=1170597&y=2005 +Argjent Brunçaj
1A Auto Parts thanks again. Do you know if the same pump fits Pilot and Odyssey of the same year?
Does this come with the o ring
You should always flush the old fluid from the system before installing a new power steering pump or that old fluid will likely cause the new pump to fail.
It’s difficult for me to put the new belt back on after replacing power steering pump. Any ideas why? Please help. For an 06 Honda Pilot
Did you end up fixing the belt yourself
Thank you very helpfull
+Marco B Thanks for watching.
How do you remove the pulley without a vice?
can you tell me the size of the bolts
Great video... but I would love a better view of how to rethread the belt back on...
It's at 12:48 in the video.
He has a great diagram in the video, saved my a$$
Does the power steering pulley/wheel need to be torqued or just tightly fit?
+John Garza Just tightly fit as shown in the video! 1aauto.com
+Marcus DeMond Thanks for the feedback!
Would this be the same for a 06 mdx?
thanks
Assuming you don’t have a vice. How hard is getting the pulley off of the pump while still on the car?
+Nick Hannum Thanks for watching! It will be very difficult if you do not have a vice, as it requires quite a bit of force. 1aauto.com
Thank you. Going to buy a Vice today 🙄 dad confirmed. Lol
+Nick Hannum Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
grat video thank ,you have moor video?
+zaiya isho Thank you for your feedback! We have more videos located through our site and through our RUclips channel.
You took the belt off why?
Anybody knows the size of the bolts
It's confusing ..it shows a 14 mm but nothing on my tentioner is 14mm
You should lead off with the statement about removing the pulley from the pump while it is still on the vehicle if you do not have a pulley.
Also my tensioner had a 19mm, not a 14mm
Without belt removal bro
Why would you not flush the old fluid?
Prime by the drop. I spilled fluid all over.
Are you supposed to have the Car off the ground whenever you turn the wheel left to right
+Lettuce Shred Thanks for checking us out! This would depend on what you are doing and what you are trying to move the wheel for. The wheel will turn easier on the ground due to power steering but if the wheel is off then you will need turn by hand.
@@1AAuto I was wondering if I should have the wheels off the ground when I write turn the wheel left to right to get the air bubbles out
will this work for a 04
+Queen K This will be a very similar installation.
1A Auto parts. Whats the price for that PS pump? I'll appreciate your answer
