Vocally it was coloratura soprano Mary-Jean O'Doherty's finely-sung Queen of the Night that took the story into its most dramatic passages.

The principally-white set, full of images that copied Freemason motifs, lent itself to dramatic lighting effects as the mood of the opera changed. Vocally it was coloratura soprano Mary-Jean O'Doherty's finely-sung Queen of the Night that took the story into its most dramatic passages. Henry Grant Kerswell, as her arch rival Sarastro, was on less certain ground - particularly towards the bottom of his range. The Bristol Post.
Pamina's Mother (Mary-Jean O'Doherty) is The Queen of the Night.
