- Watch exceptional French soprano Patricia Petibon sing "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen" from Mozart's "Zauberflöte". The aria was recorded for her DG album "Amoureuses". Petibon has established herself as one of the most interesting and versatile sopranos of our day and has been widely acclaimed for her outstanding acting abilities that make her merge completely with whatever role she sings and represents on stage.
With Amoureuses Petibon circles around the ever-important topic of love and desire -- in a series of character-portraits she explores how the very different female characters in the operas of Mozart, Haydn, and Gluck respond to the challenges of love.
Ranging from the dramatic fury in Haydn's Odio, furor, dispetto and Mozart's Der Hölle Rache . . . to the sweetness in his Deh vieni, and from the desperate sadness of his L'ho perduta . . . me meschina! to the grandeur of Gluck's Ah! Si la liberté, the album is the perfect showcase for Petibon's exceptional skills of expression and characterization
For Amoureuses Petibon teamed up with the acclaimed period-instrument band Concerto Köln and conductor Daniel Harding, a collaboration that guarantees an effervescent, entrancing approach to the music of the Viennese masters -- a captivating debut to watch for!

What is your favourite Mozart aria?
For tenors: Ich Baue Ganz Auf Deine Stärke, Entfürung aus dem Serail.
For Baritone: aprite un po quegli occhi, Nozze de Figaro
Bass: Ha!
See a trend? ;) :D
All of them but I am mesmerized by his trios, quartets an so on.
Il mio tesoro, Non mi dir, Martern aller Artern, Ruhe sanft...
Requiem is best for me
Yes.
She really does sound angry and vengeful! This is the best performance I’ve found on RUclips. I can’t believe anyone dislikes this video.
Me too
yes she did a good job. It's a challenging song. Not all female opera singers can sing this difficult soprano.
Check out Zdzisława Donat version. It's also awesome :)
Totally agree. She is amazing!
If you rescue 100 babies from a burning building someone will hate that to. Dont worry about it.
she is absolutly adorable. I never heard such an energetic interpretation. Thank god, people like her exist
Check Diana Damrau queen of the night
Natalia C.M. // Damrau‘s performance is the best, but this takes second place for me (although others have been more technically perfect like Deutekom).
@@magicmulder This is so much better than Damrau!
@@MySensualWorld To me Damrau is even more comfortable with the highest notes, and the additional dramatic performance clinches it for me. But we're really comparing the cream of the crop here.
Hell yeah!!! She's one of the best examples of pure art I've ever had the luck of hearing
As a Diana Damrau fan, I was completely blown away by Patricia Petibon. What a wonderfull performance. Thank you Patricia!
Same here, I usually only like it with Diana. but its true, Patricia nails it...
Patrick I’ve had it w Diane Damrau, tho’ her Queen of the Night was definitive. PP does a good job, some of the high notes not really sounding human notwithstanding. This being a rehearsal gives her the leeway for all the, in fact unnecessary, movement.
mckavitt13 // I love the drama in her performance, second only to Damrau. I feel most who sing this flawlessly lack the emotion and just care about hitting the notes right.
Highest note sounded a little harsh and with a notable „switch“ but I take this any time over some technically perfect but flat performance.
I hear you, but following Mozart's own expressed guidelines, singing should always sound beautiful. So high tech along w high drama would be best & not too much to ask of our great sopranos of today.
Patrick far better than Damrau
VERY few sopranos ever impress me with this aria, because very few have the voice for it, or sing it as it should be sung. However, Patricio Petibon has just been added to that short list! BRAVA!
Art Danks very well done. such an extremely difficult aria and she nails about 99% of the notes
You realised, than Petibon is singing 1/2 Ton lover, right? So,basicaly she is not singing f3, but e3.F's are necessary to sing Queen of the night in the Opera.Making recordings is something else :-)
Mickey Mouse ,,,Modern pitch is not Mozart authentic pitch.
Joseph Happ Agree, but we are living in 2018, and professional „Queen of the night“ are singing in pitch a=443 or higher. Which is complete nonsence in my oppinion. But Petibon do not have the Role in her Repertoire. That is my point.
I agree 😊. DD vs PP...
What's great about her performance is that her vibrato doesn't destroy it, which unfortunately happens to too many sopranos.
I so agree.
I so agree.
can I just say that this is the most precise and musical version of this famous aria available. She sings all the notes unlike pretty much everyone else. Even the great Lucia Popp bluffs the turns. This is quite wonderful. Patricia you are the Hilary Hahn of sopranos- Brava!
Have you heard Cristina Deutekom?
@@matstan3515 Yes I have- she misses out the turns- the ornaments- altogether
The video, the performance, the mix, the audio, the piece - it's all too perfect. We may be destroying the planet in the process, but we are capable of instants of breathtaking beauty.
Very well spoken, Mozarts genüsslich is for eternity
This is raw power! A pure prensentation of the aria, angry and vengeful, prayerful to the gods of revenge! 😍😍
Human capacity at its very limit
Beyond its limits.
The quality of recording is literally the best on youtube!
and so is the singing!!!!!
@@Highinsight7 Nope!
@@pebo8306 Nasty folks like you... never have any content on their channel... EVER! (it's fine to have opinion... but yah don't always have to blab it out...!)
@@Highinsight7 Sumi Jo is incredible too! Petibon may have the best recent recording!
@@MySensualWorld I agree... she's wonderful as well...
Patricia is wonderful and sings this beautifully.
Dramatic, over the top as it should be and angry.
The staccatos are amazing and sharp like glass. I'm just blown away!
I am open-mouthed. I never even dreamed any other soprano could beat Damrau's interpretation. Outstanding. Perfect!!
Patricia è semplicemente straordinaria!!!!
0:45 In her mind she thinks "did I hit the note correctly?" and then she nods "yes I did :)"
She doesn't feel good in this one, she doesn't have enough support and she tries to overcompensate with her body and fake anger. This aria needs a monster voice. A voice that comes out hard without this much try. When you try this much, you are doing something wrong.
@@Daniela-pr7rz Well I dont know her at all besides this. Maybe she is not so used to his piece yet so she it's not so "natural" yet. Also after this when she hit's the super high notes it seems she relies on the practiced technique like the way she stands and holds her arms infront of her. Yea it's the support is missing but still to me it feels not as if she is using a lot of effort but rather the routine is missing.
I think she was short by a quarter.
Both Petibon and the orchestra are superlative.
I think the conductor was having even more fun than the vocalist :p
With this vocalist you must have fun! Patricia is outstanding!. :)
@@Leirix61 not to mention it's the HARDEST aria in the repertoire... at least one of them...
The conductor had a ball of a time!!
With such a wonderful vocalist and orchestra...how could anyone not thoroughly have fun?
Of course he's having more fun than she is. She's performing the operatic equivalent of an Olympic figure skating routine with one insane jump combination after another, and he's waving a stick around. :)
Wonderful! I especially like the charm of the natural in the extraordinary. The unadorned enthusiasm and grace of Patricia Petibon. Musician and conductor in everyday clothes. Heaven and earth united in beauty.
Wundervoll!
Singing is hard work, emotionally and physically. Patricia Petibon gets herself in this state of exception that shows what turmoil she, her role Queen of the Night, is in. And also how she is a mistress of her art. Bravo!
Being able to focus purely on the vocals must be a relative luxury when performing this. Added kudos for pulling this off on stage, in costume, acting with another person.
The best performance I've ever seen. OUTSTANDING!
I love her eyes
She is so into the song, like she forgets everything around her and that is what music means to me
One of my favorite sopranos, wonderfully sung.
Excellent! Now, that's a voice! What an instrument!
Amazing!
she is!!!!!!
?
spektakuläre Leistung! Ich war wirklich angenehm überrascht! BRAVO!
Amazing clarity.......I love her!
BEST queen of the night performance EVER!!!! Thank You!!!
Please help me I can't stop listening to it. I love to watch he face expressions, priceless
Wow, now THIS is an interpetation where I think "Better not anger her any more or I'm done."
Incredible how, during this whole performance, I didn't think about the technical difficulties this aria presents, but only about the character behind that voice. To make me focus on that requires the performer to sing or play a piece in a seemingly effortless manner, which in turn requires an incredible amount of technical proficiency. I am blown away.
Fantastic! Fascinating the passion with which Patricia Petibon sings. I can't get enough of it.
simply unique! one of the few (also german) singers who sing this piece so clearly and distinctly. with many of them you have to know the lyrics in order to understand what the respective lady is singing. here you understand every word, every syllable. take a close look: she reflects on her singing while she sings and communicates briefly with the conductor via her facial expressions without even the slightest rupture. i call that art and perfection. i would love to hear the whole magic flute with her as the queen of the night.
I am impressed: this lady can sing.
Respekt.
The best version which I ever heard
Try Cristina Deutekom :-)
ruclips.net/video/3qmyWC38HVI/видео.html
@@thiemokucharczyk she has a great voice and vocal range and obviously amazing technique but her version is pretty bland, no offence
this is the most passionately performed version of this aria i’ve seen. completely blown away by this young woman’s vigor and vim. brava!! encore une fois!
This song gives me goosebumps every time
The aria!!please!!!!
Yes, aria!!! Everything is a song now. Even operas, symphonies. Thanks to Spotify, Google. The USA. Ggggrrrhhh!!!
Elle est vraiment magnifique !
Mind-blowing. Simply mind-blowing. Best performance I ever heard in my life, and I've heard quite a lot. Her emotions simply scare you, positively. And then there are the period instruments.
Mozart would approve. Bravi!
This pair must have awaken Mozart. Crazy magnificent. Wild beautiful.
Pure steel in her voice as she digs in - brava!!!
she is absolute amazing!
What an amazing performance. I can't count the number of times that I have come back to hear and see it.
The dynamics in the orchestra are spot on! 👍👏
Excellent performance! Bravo!! The best of all!!
She’s in the role, so expressive ! One of the best YT version !
Hahaha! This aria takes the palm for making people do the worst faces !
(PS She is amazing, I love her energy and her voice is 150% there !)
👌👍👍👍👏
Takes the Palme d'Or for getting sopranos to make the worst faces... yes!
Most often, those runs before the repetitive high notes were not given enough importance by many singers because they focus more on the soaring notes...so far she's the only one I've heard with the cleanest, complete and well prepared runs for this aria. Brava!
True. Very good point.
Wonderful performance. She has a glorious voice, but I really love the conductor, especially when he says "verlassen" at 1:50. He's really into it.
It's clear that Petibon is living the part of queen of the night- even in a recording studio.
The best performance of this iconic aria i have heard! Exceptional and agile singing from the beautiful Patricia Petibon.
Best preformance of this Song what i ever listen befor. !!! Amazing
Amazing energy! I didn't expect such a good interpretation! THE DIRECTOR IS GREAT
I can’t stop watching this. 👏🏻👏🏻
I have been a great admirer of this Great Donna d,Opera for years I am still a GREAT follower, Merci bien
How come I've never listened to Opera before ! This is amazing!!!
Welcome to the world of Opera, then!
Martin Marius Maurich Pavarottis Vesti La Giubba is a must, friend- if you havent come across it
Martin Marius Maurich Cause this is no opera. It's a Singspiel ;)Btw! Nice variation of "Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen".
+Martin Marius Maurich Because they didn't have RUclips and you couldn't just listen to the arias. You had to sit through the opera which even for Mozart is not easy.
+Martin Marius Maurich AAAAAYE WELCOME FRIEND
To some commentors:
She is not forcing the song.
It is not about she looks in the hard times, or as others commented the german emphasis about this.
This is about death and despair.
And i can feel it here, like in no other version. Maybe overwelming is the better word.
This Woman gives me chills.
Compared to other female singers in the charts, she is about 5000% above for me.
And yes, her face is interesting sometimes... i love it .
It is just her amazing singing technuiqe. Do it better if you can. (100db, crystal clear, nailed on point)
If you can, listen it loud and with a subwoofer.
There is al lot from the Orchestra you cannot hear without Bass.
For me this one of my top 5 classic recordings i have ever heard.
Gran versión, excelente cantante. ¡Vaya nivel!
As a Diana, Cristina and Edda fan, i should recognize that Patricia is an amazing soprano, even is she has less agility in the high notes. She´s outstanding.
Queen of the Night in a hoodie. I loved this, and her ripping character portrayal. Thanks for posting!
It think it was just a rehearsal
No doubt that my English is not good enough to describe the joy I feel each time I listen to this. Actually, even if I were a poet, I do not think I could describe it adequately. This is an absolute masterpiece performed by the brilliant performer. You need a genius like 'Wolfie' to compose a masterpiece like that, but without the fabulous performance like this one, you will simply not be able to understand and comprehend how magical this aria actually is. Absolute perfection joined together. Each note is sung with a divine purity and clearness. Unprecedented! Brilliant! Thank you for recording this. This is magical and yet unheard... It simply cures and heals soul...
That was amazing. Thrilling. There is a real dark anger and violence in her voice, such an evil beauty. ;)
More than that. She is a mother who has lost her child. She has been thrown over as evil by a boring wise man. Ugh. Mozart's music says much more than the text.
Fabulosa interpretacion.
Best Niels, Denmark
Unbelievable Respekt best voice I ever heard
Gänsehaut pur!!!
Amazing performance. What a voice!!!
Blows my mind. Just amazing. This is the best for me.
This is awesome! Very clear tone. The dynamics in the piece are right on. One of the best I've heard with this piece so far. 😃❤❤❤
Amaising! Wonderful and so powerfull voice! Extraordinary, she is so expresive, so talented! 👋👋👋👋👋👋😶
Great! ! Sublime voice!
Look I love Diana Damrau's version of this but I am completely blown away with the amount of force and passion that she presented and portrayed! Well done
She's clearly in my Top 5 for this rendition. Like, come on! She's flawlessly killing it.
Better than perfect... What a performance
Performance, notas, proyeccion, simplemente, me encanta!
She really let’s it rip with this one - a great pleasure to watch!
Fantastic rendition with outstanding diction! What a pleasurable experience! Thank you so much for uploading this video.
Solo se resume en una palabra: SUBLIME!!!
Chills and tears...
no greater instrument than the human voice
What an impressive performance. The best I have seen and heard.
Magnifique!!
Spectacular ! Her voice is a superb instrument
This song, her voice, her facial expressions, are the gestalt of my life! Brilliant! Thank you!
absolutely astounding performance ! Thank you for sharing !!
Absolutely wonderful. Amazing!
amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Patricia Petibon is just outstanding
Quelle energie ! Brava
Acabei de me apaixonar. Adorável, adorável. Obrigado, Patricia. Obrigado, Mozart.
