Astonishingly, this aria was written in 1777, several years before any of Mozart’s great operas; when we hear such fantastic performances as here, it makes us wonder why this magnificent music is so difficult to hear more regularly in the opera houses around the world.

Vivaldi’s aria ‘Agitata da due venti’ from his opera La Griselda sung by Cecilia Bartoli is my go-to number for those who say they don’t know any of his vocal music; there’s lots more brilliant stuff besides.

Patricia Petibon se luce muy bien con la que yo considero la mejor aria para la voz de soprano de la ópera El MUNDO DE LA LUNA de Franz Joseph Haydn. Es una aria de bravura por su florida coloratura muy parecida a las de las óperas de W. A. Mozart que perteneció al mismo periodo clásico vienés rococó. Hermoso!!
