***** This is an authentic currywurst recipe. Germany is quite big, so there are a lot of variations across the regions. In Berlin it's common to serve the saussage without the skin, for example, while in most other parts of the country it's served with, like in this video. Every saussage booth has it's own variations, this one, served with onions, is one of them - and a quite delicious one ;)
That's Tasty Oh, I didn't mean that it wasn't. I was just wanting a recipe directly from Germany, that's all. Really I was just looking for specifics. There needs to be a fruity base reduction added to the sauce as well. There recipes with plums or applesauce or orange juice. Just heating up ketchup in a pan and sprinkling curry and onions on top of it really seem like a joke. Like putting a random piece of meat into a microwave and calling it southern barbecue.
in germany we have Different ways to make a Currywurst. the original is a sausage without skin its called "oberländer "a White sausage. but you can make it how you like. and also the Sauce ist differtnly.someone have their own recipe. thank you for this Video. greetings from germany.

Nooo onions in currywurst .and its not ketchup what ppl might think. Its a special currysauce. Ketchup with wurst is ketchup with wurst . Genuine german here :D
This isn't a Currywurst at all. You can get onions as an extra, but the sauce is just wrong. You put some curry powder on the sausages at the end, but that's where the similarities end. The sausage is the worst bit...
@@RealBigBadJohnThe version is awful. It's missing so many ingredients like a type of fruit juice or cola, balsemic vinegar, chilli power. Some version might be sweeter or tangier, but this sauce is missing a lot of flavors.
J D amazing answer 😂😂😂😂 But you're right. Let's start with the sausage... and then the sauce... You could eat currywurst like this but don't call it a german currywurst. it's more like a currywurst for people that cant cook at all
I've never seen a currywurst with onions, but that's fine. I often make a variation myself, where I cut the sausage into slices, add onion rings and pieces of paprika and fry them in a pan. A currywurst pot, so to speak. Then, of course, the sauce is added and heated directly with the ingredients. But I don't make it so easy for myself here. The ketchup is thinned with the same amount of water, then of course plenty of curry is added, pepper, tomato paste, some soup powder, a dash of soy sauce and Worcester sauce. Ketchup alone is too sweet for my taste. PS: If you are vegetarian, the taste of the curry and ketchup largely drown out everything else. So just replace the sausage with zucchini. It's not the same, but it still tastes very good.
I have no idea what that is. Having lived in Germany for 3 years I can tell you that those are the wrong sausages, Currywurst is Bratwurst, Cooked on a griddle, Normally served in a cardboard tray, Cut into pieces, Covered with Tomato/Curry sauce then a dusting of Red Curry powder (I always thought that was Paprika). Served with a little wooden fork. You can always tell a proper Bratwurst by the colour of the skin and it is a much denser Pork Sausage. Traditionally grilled to get the markings. You may get a piece of bread with it but never Onions. Bratwurst are cooked on the Griddle and served with a piece of bread and Semph (German mustard). BrockWurst are very similar but Boiled. If you want to show us German food go and research it first
Also, it is not plain Ketchup. Most places have their own recipes for their sauces. Often it is based on a fruity reduction of plums, applesauce or orange juice and often coke or energy drinks are added too.
I miss Germany some times. I haven't had the really good old school currywurst in far too long. I mean , I had currywurst the other day and it was pretty good , just was missing the sauce and powder....
Wrong Oberländer with skin is an acceptable sausage. You are talking about a region specific way to do it. Red Curry Pulver is something I have never seen on a CurryWurst. The comment might be 5 years old but having written so much just to be wrong on so many points tilted me to write a response
No, really, no. After frying you have to cut the Sausage in pieces , in the sauce must be inside: Tomato paste, curry, paprika powder, salt, sugar, apple vinegar, chili powder, apple juice, tomato juice, ginger powder and some drops of Worcester sauce. You give the hot sauce over the sausage pieces to keep them warm. In Berlin sometimes you can order some raw onion cubes wich are red and spicy (red from chili ) as a topping. Some currypowder on top. Eat it together with a crisby bun . Greetings from Germany
Currywurst and Pomme Frites was my favorite food in Ohsterholz Germany between 1982-1985 or so when I was a military dependent (Army Brat) but i'm not familiar with the actual recipe so I don't know if this one is authentic or not.
These sausages look like Turkish wiener-style sausages (wiener sosis), basically frankfurters without pork. Or are they just the usual canned hot-dog sausages, the worst of the wurst?
