Bowe wasn't scared. The money wasn't there. The money was with Tyson, Evander, and Forman. You don't risk your record or title without a big payday. When Bowe was at the top Lewis had yet to make a marketable impact. Lewis cracked into mainstream after Bowe was shot. Bowe had dropped out of the army gained 60 pounds and had a mental breakdown. Lewis ended up being the Bridge to the Klitschko era of supper big, for basketball, and otherwise abnormally tall Heavy Weight boxers.

Then they were supposed to fight in 94, but Lewis lost to McCal and that's why the fight never took place anymore.

He has nothing to gain from fighting Bowe who he already beat in the Olympic final. Bowe had his chance and ducked the fight (twice it should be added). Now he has to live with it. No doubt he is hurt by the 'chicken' Bowe tag but he has only himself to blame for that. I think he was upset on this occasion because Lewis didn't want to stand next to him and doesn't show him much respect. But to be fair to Lewis, Bowe didn't actually earn that respect from Lewis all those years ago and takes every opportunity to bad mouth Lewis in public so I can understand why Lewis has no time for him.

@The Medulla Hunter - Disagree a bit. Lewis always had a good defence - look at how little he's marked and how he still has all his faculties. However, earlier on in his career, he could be reckless and that's what cost him against McVall.
Bowe had the ability to beat Lewis Pre Emanuel Steward. Post Emanuel Lewis would have boxed Bowe's head off.
However, Bowe would have never beat Lewis pre Emanuel because Lewis had pulverized him mentally. Bowe was always scared of Lewis and would have been a beaten man before he got in the ring.
I do think Lewis behaved like a complete cock here though by a) blocking Bowe from the photographs and then b) refusing to stand next to him. It was all a bit pathetic for a man of 53.
