Hey Rick, Thanks for all the great and useful information as always. I am starting the process of engraving tumblers. can you address how you stabilize the honeycomb bed for accurate placement of the rotary jig? My bed always seems to shift around when moving the rotary in/out of the machine. I'm using an Omtech AF2028-80w machine with a 4-wheel rotary. Calibrating actual positions with a sliding bed is frustrating. Do you have your honeycomb screwed into place for consistent laser positioning?
Yes, my honeycomb bed has two metal tapping machine screws on either side that are screwed into the frame. It came like that and it doesn't move around much at all. If I added a couple more I could completely elimate any movement of the honeycomb bed.
Great and well explain video
Glad it was helpful!
So I am brand new to the laser world. Just received my Omtech 60w with auto focus today, and that exact same 4 wheel rotary axis jig. After a few burns on wood to get the feel for it I wanted to try the rotary and do my shop logo on a tumbler. With my bed all the way down the tumbler sits way above the laser still. Am I missing something obvious?
@@woodwork740 I'm sorry I missed your comment. Were you able to figure this out?
@@directedt3ch yep, have to remove the bed and put the rotary directly on the knives (which is absurd having the same brand rotary as laser) but I at least got it going
@@woodwork740 Glad you found a solution! My machine is manual focus. I'm guessing there is less Z depth travel on the AF machines possibly due to the limit switches.
hi, great video, but the links are not available
Thanks for letting me know! I think I've got them fixed now :)
I'm trying to engrave on the same type of glass. Do you have the machine settings available to download?
If you look around the @8:52 mark, you'll see I ran this at 200mm/sec at 19% power. It's best to run some tests on a separate glass (that is the same as your planned project) to really dial in the settings.
@@directedt3ch what is your steps per rotation on your rotary setup menu?
.@@Krusermissile I had steps per rotation set to 3005 for this project
What wattage is your laser for this project? What did you focus at and was the air on?
I have a 60 Watt Laser. I focused at my normal focus length of 18mm and the air was on.
Hi, what lense do I need to engrave glass? Like whiskey or beer mugs
Hi Vicky! Sorry, I just noticed your comment. I use a 2" lens which is fine for glass. A longer focal length lens will decrease detail, but with the nature of glass it's probably not noticeable.
@@directedt3ch thank you!
