      Yeah because the engine was derived from the standard Alfa V6 2.5L but deeply revisited using F1 metallurgic technologies like aluminum micro-fusion and aluminum-magnesium alloys (cylinder 4 valve groups and heads were designed by Alfa but built by Cosworth in their F1 engine facility) that allowed it to reach crazy 12.000 Rpm and 490 BHP.... it was basically a reinforced 155 chassis, stripped down body with a F1 level engine in it... :-D

    • @HardwareG33k
      @HardwareG33k 3 года назад +4

      @@ClaudeMagicbox yes the engine was super high tech, however the other cars had high revving V6 engines too. This particular engine was also NOT derived from the Alfa 2.5, because at that point they had pretty much reached the limit of what the engine was capable of. The Alfa 2.5 had a 60° bank angle, this new engine was designed more or less from ground up with a 90° angle (Fiat claimed it was based on an existing engine from within the Fiat conglomerate, the V6 PRV). This actually caused a lot of controversy back in the day. Other teams claimed it was not a production-based powerplant - which was mandated by DTM rules at the time.

      Not true, Lancia Delta S4 was powered by a 4 cylinder in line with 1759cc displacement boosted by both a volumetric compressor called Volumex and developed by Lancia and a KKK turbo...the project was by engineers Lombardi and Limone.
      Alfa 155 Ti V6 was powered by a V6 of 2498cc derived from the road legal Alfa Romeo V6 2.5L but deeply revisited employing F1-grade aluminum micro-fusion technologies and Alfa designed but Cosworth produced 4-valve heads in aluminum-magnesium alloy that allowed the motor to reach phenomenal 12.000 Rpm max regime (11.800 rpm max power) and 490 BHP with a torque of 34,6 Kg/m (!!).
      The performance of such engine was so strikingly superior to other DTM competition that the organizers of the German championship changed the rules the next season to avoid Alfa Romeo from presenting the same engine on the track.

    Everyone screws this up!!!!! My GOD, there are two versions of the Alfa 155DTM car. It competed four years in a row. The 93-95 car used the original Busso NA 60 degree V6 spun to 12k (likely higher) and crushed DTM in 93, 94, being underpowered in 95. The 1996 car was powered by a NINETY, that's 90 degree v6. It spun to 11,700?? rpm using pneumatic valve springs, larger valves and complicated electronics. For obvious reasons being a 90° degree block, the crankshaft used offset crankshaft pins. The 1996 only engine based on the PRV (Peugeot, Renault, Volvo) joint venture 90 degree v6 from 74-94.
    The two engines sound nothing alike. The 60 degree is a fine whine while the 90 degree sounds more course.
    Determining RPM without contacting Alfa Corse directly is impossible. The original engine absolutely revved higher than the 1996 version. If you listen to them the pitch of the 60 degree V6 is noticeably higher while the 90 degree sounds more like a harsh chain saw.
    That's all I got, the actual publication errors on the two totally different cars mixing everything up is shockingly bad. I'm not sure that I've ever read an accurate article on the 155dtm. Even Wikipedia is wrong with no sources for the engine claims. I've been studying the Busso V6 engine block as a perfect candidate to weld two blocks together making a wet sleeve 8.5 liter V12 engine possible. The cylinder heads are nowhere near adequate to feed a high rpm 8.5L leaving that yet to be determined. The Nissan VQ40, cheaper than VR38DETT, is the same engine block dimensionally and the heads are capable of flowing enough air for 1150hp NA 8.5 liter V12. This is the final revelation in a 7 years of searching cylinder spacing and cylinder head flow. Bussos would make a 900+ hp V12 and sound like two 155dtms, but it can't touch the head flow of the GTR R35 3.8.

    • @jason.arthur.taylor
      @jason.arthur.taylor 2 года назад +1

      "Determining RPM without contacting Alfa Corse directly is impossible." The audio can processed into an FFT (Fortier Transform). The inverse of the location (in frequency) of the peaks gives the rpm.

    • @curvs4me
      @curvs4me 2 года назад

      @@jason.arthur.taylor Davide Cironi does an interview with the man behind the Alfa DTM 155s. That's fact not speculation. The first two years ran the Busso 60° and the remaining years used the PRV 90° V6 for the increased area between the cylinder heads for larger intakes. The offset crankpins or journals are not as strong as the 60° reducing rpm potential. Increase in volumetric efficiency more than compensated for the reduced RPM.
