Did you eat a lot of street food in Vietnam? Have you gotten sick from eating in vn before? I'm Vietnamese but haven't been back home in 30 years. I know there are a lot of chemical stuffs that are from China. Like most cheap pho broth is not from cooking bones any more, but from chemicals. There are a lot of chemicals that can get rid of rotten meat smell and some chemicals used to make fruits look ripe. I love Vietnamese street food but I'm scare to have cancer or something in the future. Let me know. Thanks for the video.

Tip Number 6 : When paying with "big" notes (VND200,00), you should know precisely how much change you're suppose to receive in return and also do check the amount (change) given back to you. The VND10,000 & VND100,000 notes even though slightly different in size, they look some what similar and can be confusing for first timers.

The most important thing you should recommend is consulting with a doctor as to what medications/shots are needed to prevent a person from local illnesses in the vacation spot. Some vacation spots may have a higher risk of getting a certain type of illnesses than others. So, you'll have to check the local spots you'll be visiting to mange your risks of becoming ill before you go on vacation.

It's February 2019. I've a Viet Kieu (overseas Vietnamese-American), who has been living in Hanoi for the past 6 months. Uber is NO longer in Vietnam. I take GRAB everywhere since I don't drive a motorbike. I'm a single woman traveling alone. It's not scary. Be street smart. If you arrive at the airport, get transportation arranged in ADVANCE with your hotel. Taxis can be pricey since they will drive you around to get make more money.

Some vendors may ask for a higher price for their goods, but if I think it is reasonable I happily pay for it otherwise I would just not buy from them. Grab drivers are honest. Generally, it's a very affordable place to visit, and the food is delicious.

That’s true! Bacteria and viruses are everywhere like in the food, the air, and the water. Locals have immune, so they don’t really care, but Western tourists must be aware. In America, everything is pasteurized and bacteria-free, so Americans don’t possess immune to resist the germs. However, SE Asian countries don’t have what so-called American standard or European Standard, so you should be careful.

That's true. Scams, rip-off, pickpockets, corrupt policemen are still existing in some big cities in VN. However, VN also has many wonderful things, such as beautiful landscapes, friendly people and nice students who often follow to foreigners in order to practice speaking English. Guard yourselves from bad people who try to scam you. Stay away from cyclo drivers, meter taxis, motorbike drivers, donuts ladies, sex-workers. Don't eat street food sold by street vendors. If you enjoy travelling to VN, make a trip to Da Lat, Nha Trang or Sapa. These destinations are charming, breathtaking and unforgettable.

At that time there were not taxis as today. But the same hassle was with cyclo drivers. Got so tired of it so in Hanoi I bought a cheap Chinese bicycle. There are not many things that I wont do in Vietnam, hiring a scooter is ONE OF THE BIG ONES.
There re NO ROAD RULES in Vietnam, more like suggestions, that make little sense to the Westerner. I would rarely (not in Saigon or Hanoi) ride a motor bike, as if you have an accident IT WILL BE YOUR FAULT. Then you will find out how much it is to bribe a police officer (sorry pay a fine), pay the other person (or people in the accident) and not get your deposit back at the bike rental place.
Taxis are CHEAP, moto taxis (the guys on the motor bikes) are fast and if you agree up front I have had no problems ever.

Andrea, I returned from Vietnam last week. That was my second visit - the 1st was 5 years ago. I’d say it’s a relatively safe country even for a single women to visit. Overcharging is the main issue, but violent crime is rare. Count the change all the time, ask your hotel / restaurant/ museum to call you a reliable taxi and you’ll be ok in most cases (same goes for excursions - better ask for the hotel assistance).
That being sad, despite the “unfortunate disposition” of locals towards foreigners, I’d definitely recommend visiting Vietnam at least once to everyone. Plenty of things to see and to do, nice food and wonderful fruit. A good sunscreen and tons of common sense are the musthaves.

I'm in HCMC right now. Overcharging is outrageous. I only use Grab (precalculated fares) and the normal supermarkets. Really, if people are coming up to you randomly, just assume scam. Vietnam is amazing country indeed, for many things. Good and bad things do their job like a karma in sutra hahaha.
Behold! Let me tell you a true story as holy water now.
Do you know the price for the small bowl or big bowl? Hahaha
Go to Hoi An market, try some Cao Lau (kind of noodles), you can see all the price was printed on a humble board. I’m sure you will know the exact price for what you have eaten but you will pay extra for the thing they named “big bowl” you don’t know and you didn’t see in the price board. Hell yeah, bigger bowl bigger price. It’s a new definition.
    First rule? Ask the price.
Don’t wanna play a bargaining game? Go to mini mart or supper market :-)))

I would like to ask if where exactly in Vietnam is he talking about?? I have been in Hanoi for 5days from March 22-26, 2019 but me and my friends was amazed. We never experienced some sort of this scams! Hanoi is a beautiful place and safe for travellers even at night and we stayed in Old Quarters. Don't be too fooled with those videos saying bad about Vietnam but you as a traveller should be aware and responsible for your self in every country you would like to visit..do some research before you go and take care of yourself! 😃

The foreigner price is true though. People often overlook it because you tend to convert the quoted amount in your own currency and adjudge it to be reasonable or cheap when in fact locals can get such items at an even lower price. Fruits for example are sold at 6-10x their actual price and clothing shops in the Old Quarter are priced higher for foreign tourists. Even our local guide admitted that the Vietnamese don't buy their clothes there since they're extremely expensive by local standards.

Hey I wouldn't call it a coconut scam. You should pay the guy some money just to take pictures with his rig, don't you think?
I mean he's making 10 bucks a day and a fresh coconut drink (maybe 20,000 or 1 buck) on a hot day seems an ok economic stimulus
