As a Vietnamese, I felt like being scammed all the time when I came back to Vietnam. Last night when I ate a meal in Vinh city, which is goi Vit, they took like double the price of it. The local police in Vietnam do not work at all, they don't know how to manage or control the price, and also no serious punishments for those scammers. That's why our tourism is still not really develop as other countries, such as our neighbor-Thailand. Be careful, to ask the price before you eat anything in Vietnam. Why my country is like thisssss
I lived in Ho Chi Minh city for 4 years and have seen and experienced some awful things. When you go to Ben Tan market beggars are constantly accosting you. In Vietnam, you always want to go home as quickly as possible.
I’ve been in Vietnam for two years now and have found the people here to be kind and honest. Maybe I’ve gotten the tourist rate a time or two but certainly it didn’t break the bank.
Exactly you get the odd bit of 'tay tax' but just say no if it bothers you. This video paints a really bad picture of the Vietnamese who are great people.
Not just Vietnam, these things happen in China and Cambodia where I had visited. I was scammed a few times myself. Lesson learned. I am half Cambodian and half Chinese.
No need to feel shame it happens around the world. Governments need to do more to crack down on scammers. I've come across obvious scams in China, Greece, Japan, Thailand, Italy, Russia, US, Turkey etc. There are dishonest people everywhere.
I can't agree more as a Vietnamese. I like the part when you show empathy to lottery ticket sellers, most of the time they're really cheap around 50 cents. But many Vietnamese don't show remorse to these hardworking people
Yup and then you see them quick to drop some bills to some lazy begpacking bum holding up a sign claiming how they don't have money for food or a plane ticket 🤦♂️ I only give money to people that I see are hardworking or are in real need.
im have a planned trip to VN in the next 2 months, man after watching this vid im truly shocked on the amount of scams are in there. what makes me even more scared is, im going to travel solo,, i really hope nothing bad will happen to me
I bought fruit from a woman and she started grabbing my money from my hand when I went to pay. So, from then on I kept only a few small denominations in one pocket and the rest of my money hidden on my person. Other than that, I encountered no scams in Vietnam. Only kind and wonderful people.
Unfortunately being a foreigner, there will always be people that will try to take advantage of you. Always keep your money close by and don't let people come near it.
Mine, she took my money and did never gave me the change... I was shocked and was just looking at her going far. I said to myself it will never happen again.
@@ajibang9416 Same thing happened to me in Quezon Memorial Park, Manila, Philippines few months back, when i bought Hungarian hot dog, from a food stall, and the lady pretended to have forgotten to give me back the change, until i made up ma mind to demand the same from her. My Samsung smart phone got stolen on Oct. 19th while i was heading to Bicutan Railway station as well.
I giggled when you started describing Pickpockets, that was hilarious 😅🤣. I'm sure I too would swear at them as much or even more if I was victim to their wrongdoings. Thank you for this video and keep up the good work!
As a Vietnamese i want to say Thank You for your video. This video is helping everyone who want to travel to my country. I am very embarrassed by these scams, but thanks to exposing this scam, it will stop the act of scamming tourists and you know what i really hate scammers too. 😊
I am from Malaysia. this video really helped me understand what we should avoid when we visit Vietnam. I started to feel scared because I will visit Vietnam on June 12, 2023. I will go to Ho Chih Minh City. This video is very helpful for me and travelers who will visit Vietnam. GOD Bless you Brother.
Don't feel scared. Vietnam is very safe and now that you've watched this video I'm confident you will be well prepared for your trip. Enjoy your trip to Vietnam!
I've recently returned from a Vietnam holiday with my Aussie-Vietnamese girlfriend. Even she was disgusted by the way some of the locals treated us and how they spoke about us when they didn't realise that she understood their language.
Thank you for the information. I am a International student from Việt Nam studying in the US. I’ll graduate soon and return to Việt Nam then solve these problems
Do your own research and go with an open mind. We spent x4 weeks travelling from North to South in March-April 2019 and it is our first trip ever to Vietnam and never had any problems. They are the most friendliest people and are so polite. The only rude people we came across are foreign tourists themselves who thinks they are above everyone else. Show respect to the local people and their culture and they will look after you with kindness. There are good and bad in every country. I highly recommend visiting Vietnam and we are going again.
Same thing for me after four consecutive trips in the north Vietnam (and also two times in the middle of the country). The only problem, often even painful, was, for me too, the presence and the behavior of western tourists (American, Australian, Belgian, etc.), vulgar, messy, noisy, in bad taste. These tourists had brought with them their revolting culture of primary consumption and so ordinary, or very often their culture of hippies, walking barefoot while believing to understand Asia (!), While the Vietnamese, contrary, when they go out at night have a concern to be dress nicely. These tourists made me ashamed. The Vietnamese are often dignified and very human. Very moving too.
I've lived in Saigon for 6 years and never had any of these problems. Obviously, I don't buy trinkets at Ben Thanh market. The rule of thumb is: go where the locals go. If you only see tourists, you'll pay more. Vietnam is the safest country I know.
wow that's great, you just picked up the most basic tip: do what locals do! good one. by the way, I guess Saigon is quite crowded for this time, we will have Lunar new year soon
but locals do shop at Ben Thanh market, for food at least. Any of the big markets overcharge, especially if you look foreign. An Dong market is no better. I did however manage to barter a vendor in BT market down from 1.5million vnd for a chess set to 200k before I decided the peices looked a little bit ugly and left it. I've seen the same set in different places for anything up to 2million vnd, I think it just depends how good your haggling is.
I agree entirely, the Vietnamese are some of the most honest, genuine and friendly people in all of SE Asia...I have been to Saigon several times and no one ever tried to scam me
Got scammed by the coconut trick. Almost fell for the mother/ son trick too! Will also check for a serious cab tomorrow.. thank you!!! And also I almost got scammed at the airport when changing currencies. Thank god I checked the total as she “accidentally “ changed a smaller amount
Don't let my video discourage you from visiting Vietnam. The country is safe and wonderful. You just need to educate yourself ahead of time to avoid these little things from happening. Enjoy your vacation!
We came across a woman sleeping next to her two babies near a very busy intersection. It was a pitiful sight. However, instead of giving her money, we gave her the food we had just bought for dinner. As it turned out, she was indeed very hungry.
Scam happens due to lack of local knowledge. Traveling in a completely different atmosphere is different from traveling in home, as a foreigner one cannot read, analyse every review on the net to remain cautious. And sadly this happens around the world, especially in tourist places. Govt across the world must work together to address this Scammer Issue, so every travellers can travel without getting scammed.
Been to VN a few times and have never had an issue. The scams presented here are not unique to VN but can be found in any developing country. Exercise caution always. Vietnam is a fantastic country!
Went for three weeks and about to embark on a second trip, was scammed 3 times with two of them being taxis and was attempted to scam many times more. Traveled extensively through neighboring China, Cambodia and Thailand, there no doubt in my mind that Vietnam is the dodgiest. Everyone tries to make a buck and that's normal but more vendors than not in Vietnam do not respect the tourists safety or enjoyment in their country.
@@YulHolic24 In Sydney you can catch a train or use Uber, not many people use taxi or airport taxi. I'm not racist but majority of taxi drivers are immigrants who can be dodgy.
i am visiting Vietnam next month so this video is an eye-opener for me.thanks for these travel tips on how to avoid scams and pickpockets also to avoid talking to any strangers
You might nor have realized you were scammed. I would walk around town and the water should be 5,000 but they would try to charge 20,000. Usually I could talk them down to the right price. Now they have the Circle Ks and they have all the prices clearly marked and cold!
perhaps you look so fobby that you blend in with the locals. I have several friends who lived in the states for over 20 years. But their skin is dark, dry, speak broken English. Therefore when they visit Vietnam, people there assume he is a local. Just saying...
to be fair alot of these kind of scams happen in major cities throughout less developed countries.. not just Vietnam.. even in so called developed countries like here in London, UK there are tourist scams.. its just part of learning to live in a foreign city as an expat.. just gotta be street wise.. period!
I've been to Vietnam 7 times and never had any of this crap tried .. The only "scam" other than overpricing for tourists in tourist areas was when I was approached by the equivalent of an "Uber" driver (Grab) at the airport who offered to take me to my hotel at about 5x the proper rate .. Knowing what it should cost - I laughed in his face and took a metered cab .. It cost maybe 20k more than I would have paid with an "Uber" - but the price was fair and on the meter .. I have never been "scammed" (overcharged maybe - but that is true in any tourist area in any country in the world) in Vietnam and have nothing but love for the country .. I go there once a year.
I have been to quite a few countries where, in tourist areas, everyone pays the same, regardless of whether one is local or foreigner. Being overcharged bc you are a foreigner, that's a scam
General rule I never eat or drink at any establishment that don't have priced menus just walk away or to the next one we wouldn't do it in Europe so I wouldn't as a general rule do it anywhere else
Good Advice for travelling anywhere in southeast Asia. I was pick pocketed twice in Angeles in the Philippines, and I think that's a much bigger problem in the Philippines than in Vietnam. I've been to Thailand and Vietnam many times and never had a problem in either of those countries. However, about Vietnam I will say that it is a VERY beautiful country full of many wonderful people. There are some lowlifes and criminals in every country. When in Vietnam I have almost always traveled with someone I know who lives there, since I don't speak Vietnamese, and I recommend travelling with a local whenever possible. They will show you good places to go, make sure you aren't overcharged for anything, and protect you from scams. Altho I do feel most comfortable in Thailand, Vietnam is much less expensive, and is very beautiful, and is very worth visiting. Take reasonable precautions, use common sense, follow the advice in this video, and you will be fine.
Vietnamese people are very friendly and there are many nice places to visit here. I also enjoyed bangkok when I last visited. Its very modern now with a tonne of shopping malls and Thai food is great too!

Traveled extensively through neighboring China, Cambodia and Thailand, there no doubt in my mind that Vietnam is the dodgiest. Everyone tries to make a buck and that's normal but more vendors than not in Vietnam do not respect the tourists safety or enjoyment in their country
@Allen: So, Vietnam was safe because you were with locals. I'm sure you'd have been 100% safe in Angeles with a trusted local. Probably, you were walking alone, drunk after having a good time with girls, when you were victimized. If that is the case, you get no sympathy from most people. Remember, most people in Angeles speak English. Unlike VietNam where scammers will not speak English even if they understand it well, just to put undue pressre on the victim.
it depends as always of which part in the philippines that you travelled. Some are still good but in Manila or Luzon so far even i am a local from Phils, I do not trust them esp taxis. In my province Mindanao, taxis are still honest but just look for metered taxis, of course.
Unfortunetaly recently a friend of mine had a very bad experience with a waitress from Vietnam based in Abu Dhabi named Ha . She got from him lots of money and material objects like I phone , scooter even refrigerator and washing machine , besides too much cash . She lied to him , played the victim card and so many other things I can't describe . Beware !!!
I live here in Vietnam for almost 10 years, I’ve never been scam, yes I’ve had a few beggars try, use common sense, I highly recommend vina taxis, which I use also grab is a good idea, down load the app in Vietnam, the price is up front but sometimes taxis can be cheaper,
Seems easy to avoid all of these, just walk away, yell back, argue, maybe even fight. It seems like the police would always side with the tourists as they need to protect that industry in Vietnam.
All the people commenting about the kindness of the locals don't realize that they are just being fake...all VN people I've met in my life are just fake, they will compliment you one second and the next they will behind your back talk shit about you...this is coming from a Vietnamese person..
This is a great video and much appreciated. Some people here in the comments who try to downplay these scams don't seem to appreciate that being in a foreign country can be confusing in many ways. It's not a matter of common sense. Most of these scams don't even exist in Australia or America ect so most wouldn't see these scams coming. I do know some of these scams are similar to ones in China. I really appreciate your video because I have married a lovely Vietnamese woman in Australia and am going to travel to Vietnam at some point in the future. I suspect even my wife may not be familiar with many of these scams, as she is from country Vietnam. Thanks again!
how can you boast the relevance of these warnings if you tell us you have never been to Vietnam? That said, I personally do not question the content of this video, if not all the same its presentation of the facts excessively dramatic and one-sided, so with a certain bias of interpretation that we must put into perspective. I'm just saying that tourists are often part of the problem. There is also the fact that all the poor populations of the whole world inevitably develop in some way or other types of scams to survive, because quite simply they know that nothing will happen for them in this context.
Went to korea. Drunk alcohol until midnight and walked back to hotel. Along the way there was a pick up truck just parked on the side of the street with a bunch of cute socks. Bought some sock from the guy and started walking. He ran after us and told us we gave him way to much. Love that korea doesn't like taking tips and are honest
thank you for this great tips . I have been planning to visit Vietnam around next year, after listening to the video , it will be last on my list to visit country. It's sad to hear how people are as corrupt as the governments .
Vietnam, like many countries, is safer than the US. But when you're a gawking tourist, taking selfies with your i phone, talking loudly to broadcast that you dont know the language and with your wallet bulging in your back pocket, you're a crime target.
@@adam.dzwoniarek72 I work in Iceland... I have 3 ladies and 2 guys from Phillipines working for our company... they told me to Never go to Philliphines, and they kidnap people ( esp. Children) to harvest their organs... ( real story... as they showed me multiple articles) .. and also that they are really scared to visit their families, as it is brutal and dangerous there
The police (Công An) in Vietnam and robbers collude together, they would let thugs robbed you and split the profit between them. So either you have to be extra careful or don't go to Vietnam at all!
I got robbed in Vietnam more often than in any other country I've visited in the last 20 years. One guy on a motorbike pulled the wallet right out of my pocket and kept driving. Everybody saw but nobody helped me as I ran after him through traffic for 50meters or so. Another thief got my passport. Third got my nice headphones on the bus. Overcharged countless times, that's just normal everyday occurrence over there. Also, ALL three of my Vietnamese landlords withheld part of the rent deposit for madeup fake reasons. In 20 years of renting, I've never had a deposit withheld before.
A lot of Westerners might worry about some of these scams but think it's normal to pay £/$/€10 for a drink in a club at home, like that's not a huge scam.
As a solo traveller who has already booked his ticket to Hanoi , this is giving me some anxiety. So ok , I’m only gonna eat in hotels / restaurants , I’ll just walk , no shopping and I’m gonna be very unfriendly.
Don't be worried. Vietnam is a great country for tourists. You just gotta be a little cautious that's all. The video serves as a guide to help you avoid getting scammed, however if you possess even a little street smarts, it's very unlikely to happen to you, especially now that you've seen the video 😁 Enjoy your trip to Vietnam!
I will be there in October by myself, too. i think it's normal to feel anxious whenever we go to a country we are not familiar with. But I think we will be fine as long as we apply common sense.
Do it the easy way. To get a taxi, look for those 2 reliable names and go directly to the available taxi. Go to supermarket, 7-eleven, etc with price posted on the items. No bargaining there. Price is higher there but everyone pays the same price. Go directly is the key. Don’t do anything with people approaching you.
What he means is Sai Gon. Everything you can expect from big cities with tourists. Btw the same people will scam the locals too. Just that the locals will give the scammers hell and pick pockets or robbers will face street justice from the locals in their area. Most common are the people who act as “middle men”, recommending goods or services, but take a big fee from the service provider. If service is good you might accept the high price but usually it is an exorbitant rip off with bad service. The good providers of goods and services are well known. Check the reviews of local places and providers or take the time to walk, looking for a shop on the street. Usually the busy shop with locals might be the better choice.
I almost got caught up in the card playing scam years ago in Bangkok. I walked out of the house soon after the cards appeared and got a taxi back to the city. Close call. Some good advice in your video. I've only been robbed once in Saigon by taxi girls and I was really drunk. Luckily I only lost a cheap mobile phone. No cash and cards taken. I wonder if the shoe shine guys are scammers. Bit suspicious when they offer to shine my shoes and I'm wearing sandals. I avoid Bui Vien most of the time these days.
Thank you for posted something like this ! Wish I can make once but never get a chance to go back , I like to telling all my Freinds and my customers all about this too but never make one , so I’m glad I can share this around now ! Thanks again!
Have family in Vietnam and still in Vietnam now and I agree with most of it except for the part where you assume the beggars are going to use the money for drugs. Their laws are so strict that even beggars will not risk getting caught with that. Probably use it on alcohol idk. Just use common sense and you’ll be fine.
I am traveling to Vietnam soon for the first time. I am so worried now. Should i get a local tour guide with me? Any tips/ advise on that? And how should i know if the local tour guide overcharge?
You'll be fine. I don't think you need a tour guide. You can google where you want to go and then call a taxi or grab bike to take you there. Make sure to install the grab app on your phone.
I visited Vietnam and never came across any of it. It was the best vacation I had!! These scams are present everywhere and not just Vietnam. Like many are saying, you just use common sense and leave it to God to take care of you and you will enjoy every bit of your stay!!!😁😎🤠
Don't talk shit. I live here for years. Big difference if you come on holiday or have to face it daily. Yes, you are warned. But Vietnam is king of scams in Asia.
When you travel to these countries like Vietnam and China as a tourist you are generally not effected by thievery but if you do reside in them you will be effected. Both of these countries have a high level of scams and thievery as opposed to Korea or Taiwan where people principally engage and follow the Ten Commandments behavior.
Also in Hotel. There this one time where I went to a cheap hotel and there were some young guy working there. In the room that we rent, there were some drinks and instant ramen which is extremely cheap in VN for exp around 50.000 Dong for all that. My brother took and ate some. Then the morning before we left. They asked us if we have eaten any of the food and make us pay for 300.000 Dong. My mum was paying cuz she didn’t want any trouble but then my aunt came and said that she’s already pay for the food that was in the hotel that we ate.
I personally find Vietnamese people to be one of the nicest people i have encountered during my travels. Their hospitality is really the highlight of my trip their back in 2018.
I agree entirely, the Vietnamese are some of the most honest, genuine and friendly people in all of SE Asia...I have been several times and no one ever tried to scam me
Most are true, even my Vietnamese friend gold necklace was snatched in District 3. Dont wear gold chain or jewellery. Also I had always been warned many times by good vietnamese strangers to be careful of my phone while videoing.
Sorry to hear that happened to your friend... in fact when i was night market shopping around Ben Thanh market the friendly vendor actually warned me to pull up my collars so as to cover my gold chain... so those snatch thieves couldn't see it... very nice of her. Got to be careful not to show off all these valuable stuff
Loved this one!... HCM city is the worst for it. I was ripped off a four times.😫 Some of the locals say things like: "Same, Same" when the item is clearly not the same style. They will play on your heart strings when you negotiate. I reckon you should store your money in 3 to 4 different places. Only carry a little on you when just ducking out to eat. 🎯 😤We stayed at the Felix HCM they had some camera's that took photo's of us at about 3am while we slept, with a green flash, that woke us We worked it out to be in the set top box. A AirBnb stay. . . Coconuts should be 15k to 18k, the sunglasses are never worth it! 💁🏼♀😂
Very good info. All true. I was scammed at 17 with that card setup game, so this video hits it right on the money. We will retire to Phuket Island but 40 years in Asia prepared me for what you listed. For the newbies.... watch out!
You missed the shoe-shining scam. The guy approached us and started cleaning our shoes right away, and we ended up paying 35usd for cleaning one pair of shoes. Watch out for this one!!!
Best way to avoid scam, get a Vietnamese gf or bf, worked for me, should work for you too👌 Edit: in some restaurants if you let she or he order, owner will think you guys are somewhat native, and most cases will provide local price, instead of a tourist menu, this is seen extensively in major tourist cities.
I travelled a lot in SEAsia and got scammed twice: once in Shanghai where I fell for the teahouse scam and once in Saigon by a taxi driver - the meter scam. It helps to have a sane sceptiscism and not being overly gullible
I have Vietnamese friends who have told me about some of these scams. Your trying to act like they don't exist, shame on you! Also, the effect of "common sense" is rapidly diminished in a foreign country with different rules and culture ect.
sadly, I had that impression of Vietnam the first few visits.... I didnt want to hate an entire an entire nation, so gave it one last chance for redemption, then I discovered the beauty of Hanoi... you get used to the locals... the first few times, the MOTOR BIKE TAXI men are just so Extremely annoying... they call you every 4 minutes and you have to look and realize its just some motorbike guy... it was exhausting, crossing the street and all this motorbike call you every 3 minutes.

Going to Vietnam or any foreign country you're not accustomed to will have its pros and cons. Just be smart, and do your research ahead of time. Practice common sense and trust your instincts. I find it extremely annoying when people travel and don't bother to educate themselves. Also, there are scammers, pickpockets, thieves everywhere- everywhere. Not just in poor third world countries but in developed ones too.
I was robbed 10x visiting Italy and France but never happened in Vietnam or any Southeast Asian country for that matter. Theft is, in fact, France's biggest crime problem.
Juander Shop Portugal and France was the worst places I’ve been for pickpockets and snatch and run, I had several people try to pickpocket me in both places and seen two purses snatched off of ladies arms.
That’s so true. A lot of crying babies on RUclips making a whole country and its own people look negative. Typical Yank and Kangaroo teams. I bet they went to Paris, Barcelona, Marseille, and Rome, they would have been robbed until their last pennies.
I have never understood people who go to a different country with a different culture and stay in the tourist area if you want to see a country go where the locals go eat what the locals eat. I have had some of those scams tried on me in HCMC I enjoy them just to see how far the scammer will go. I have never had any violence in Vietnam against me.
I went back to visit VN so many times, I traveled all over the country from North to South. Twice, I went to Hanoi and so many cities and provinces in the North. My second time I went all by myself and, I went to many places there. I like to go to places that foreign tourist not frequent, just to see the real ways how the normal people live. Before I went, my nephew in Saigon told me not to go, because I will be scammed everywhere I go. I smiled and put out 100-200 USD for to be scammed. At the end, I was very happy because I knew and allowed and told them that I knew them scam me, always with loving smile on my face. I lost less than $ 50. and very happy at the end of my trip. That's cheap for a peace of mind and a loving heart.
As a general rule, just remember;
"When traveling in ANY country, if someone approaches you and offers something, it's a scam"
but not your own country right? haha
richard lawless The person wrote ANY Country. Am I missing something here? 🤔
richard lawless you should had known the prices if it is your country
Even in my country (Philippines) had scammers

- learn a little basic vietnamese ( to disguise you guys as foreigner living in vietnam for long time already and is help you away from ppl about scam you )
- split your money 50-50 one in your backpack and leave it at hotel since ur fanny pack help you only 70%-80%

Overcharging is common in some areas. Better to ask a local for recommendations on places that don't do this.
Is it poverty that make them as a scammer or greed. I like vetnamese people and their food.
The gov’t need to do something about price gauging just for tourists. Always try to get a local to go with you because price gauging.
Happens in most nations, the Thai scam you as well. In my country (turkey) they do the same shit

How did your trip go?
The number 1 scammer in VietNam is our own family. They stole our money, phone, cameras… and laugh about it once we find out and never give them back.
I've recently returned from a Vietnam holiday with my Aussie-Vietnamese girlfriend. Even she was disgusted by the way some of the locals treated us and how they spoke about us when they didn't realise that she understood their language.

Very moving too.
john, the vietnamese people in the countryside are very friendly and nice. but in tourist areas and big cities, these scams are very popular
Don’t downplay these scams, these are real problems and people need to keep a lookout
I've lived in Saigon for 6 years and never had any of these problems. Obviously, I don't buy trinkets at Ben Thanh market. The rule of thumb is: go where the locals go. If you only see tourists, you'll pay more. Vietnam is the safest country I know.
It is a fact applicable to all countries, by experience I say.
wow that's great, you just picked up the most basic tip: do what locals do! good one. by the way, I guess Saigon is quite crowded for this time, we will have Lunar new year soon
@@phammylinh5251 I enjoyed Vietnam; one week in HCMC and another in Hoi An. I tried to stay in areas where the locals frequent.
but locals do shop at Ben Thanh market, for food at least.

We came across a woman sleeping next to her two babies near a very busy intersection. It was a pitiful sight. However, instead of giving her money, we gave her the food we had just bought for dinner. As it turned out, she was indeed very hungry.

ONE OF THE BEST IVE EVER SEEN.
Scam happens due to lack of local knowledge. Traveling in a completely different atmosphere is different from traveling in home, as a foreigner one cannot read, analyse every review on the net to remain cautious. And sadly this happens around the world, especially in tourist places.

I’ve been to Vietnam 6 times and faced no scams. I could have been lucky!

Just saying...

to be fair alot of these kind of scams happen in major cities throughout less developed countries.. not just Vietnam.. even in so called developed countries like here in London, UK there are tourist scams.. its just part of learning to live in a foreign city as an expat.. just gotta be street wise.. period!

As a Vietnamese, I feel so sorry to hear that. There are also a lot of good people, however, Vietnam is somewhat chaos :< I love my country btw.
Bullshit
Thank you for loving my coutry
I have been to quite a few countries where, in tourist areas, everyone pays the same, regardless of whether one is local or foreigner. Being overcharged bc you are a foreigner, that's a scam
General rule I never eat or drink at any establishment that don't have priced menus just walk away or to the next one we wouldn't do it in Europe so I wouldn't as a general rule do it anywhere else
agreed

Of all the places you went to angeles. It means you are going most likely to the red district. Lol.
Beware !!!
I live here in Vietnam for almost 10 years, I’ve never been scam, yes I’ve had a few beggars try, use common sense, I highly recommend vina taxis, which I use also grab is a good idea, down load the app in Vietnam, the price is up front but sometimes taxis can be cheaper,
Vina or Mailinh is both popular
Robert Mac in Asia just use Grab
Seems easy to avoid all of these, just walk away, yell back, argue, maybe even fight. It seems like the police would always side with the tourists as they need to protect that industry in Vietnam.
All the people commenting about the kindness of the locals don't realize that they are just being fake...all VN people I've met in my life are just fake, they will compliment you one second and the next they will behind your back talk shit about you...this is coming from a Vietnamese person..

Thanks for sharing the helpful information. You are are brave I’m not sure if I wanna to go there.

Stay away from regular taxi, use vina or Grab only. Especially around new years.
Love all these tips!!! & just how you describe all these scammers. 😂
A lot of Westerners might worry about some of these scams but think it's normal to pay £/$/€10 for a drink in a club at home, like that's not a huge scam.

In Saigon it's not bad, but in hanoi have to very very careful, I have too much trouble all ready,,
I almost got caught up in the card playing scam years ago in Bangkok.

Scams happen everywhere, not just in VN. I surely take your helpful advice and avoid crowded tourist attractions.
Never had any problems. Use grab. Hotels will also call taxi for you for airport transfer.

Hahah. There are many panhandlers in Toronto. Even at stoplights. Although sometimes it's undercover cops
You have perfectly right.!
Your Word are very sensible.
Much luck and a happy new year. 🙂😀

Portugal and France was the worst places I’ve been for pickpockets and snatch and run, I had several people try to pickpocket me in both places and seen two purses snatched off of ladies arms.
That’s so true. A lot of crying babies on RUclips making a whole country and its own people look negative. Typical Yank and Kangaroo teams. I bet they went to Paris, Barcelona, Marseille, and Rome, they would have been robbed until their last pennies.
Thanks for this informative video. Is Uber or any other rideshare company operating in Vietnam?
Use Grab or Goviet. Uber was bought out by Grab I believe.
