Hello Toine, I’m new to your channel and excited about your recipes. My paternal grandmother was full Dutch. I never knew her because she died when my father was two. She had the most beautiful name: Delia DeRoos. Her family lived in Wolvega. I am baking your Stollen recipe for Christmas this year. Thank you for your commitment to pass on the wonderful Dutch food and culture.
Your grandmother had a beautiful name!! And, it’s my pleasure to share the goodness of Dutch food and culture!! Messages like yours are a big reason why we started the channel!
During Christmas and New year's my Dad would buy 2 new green garbage pails and that's how he made oliebullen. Each pail was half full of dough. We as children would sneak a peak as it was rising. He made hundreds.
My mother used to make these every year. She used beer in the batter and put nutmeg in with the cinnamon and sugar. There were five kids. . My poor mother did a lot of frying for the family.BTW, she called them appel BAs. I thought I maybe misheard appelbeignets, but I recently saw them referred by that name on another Dutch cooking channel. Gelukkige Niewjaar!
Maybe the name is specific to Amsterdam. My mom and oma also grated apples to make appeltaart. When I mentioned this on a Dutch FB page, I got SO many angry comments that THIS is not how it's done. Finally, one person came to my defense and said she'd seen it done that way. Lol.
Thank you for this recipe. I'd been looking for a recipe. Liked and subscribed. Greetings from China. Appelflappen zijn ook een lekkernij in Belgie. Oliebollen (smoutebollen) waren gewoonlijk alleen maar verkrijgbaar op de kermis. De kermis kultuur is tot een einde gekomen volgens mijn Belgische vrienden. Gemakkelijk verkrijgbaar in Nederland, minder zo in Belgie.
I think the word you want for the apple peel in English is "spiral." But maybe not! My mother made apple fritters which are very similar (I have the recipe) and served them with powdered sugar. They are so very good! This looks delicious also--I love the use of the cinnamon sugar inside the batter.
Hi! I just found your channel! I’ve made a lot of Dutch/Indo foods. Was married to one for 30 years. The one thing I absolutely cannot get is Dutch/Indo Rissoles. That’s what we called it, it is a crepe filled with seasoned ground beef & wild celery, egg washed and deep fried. I always bought a seasoning packet from Holland America Store in Orange County CA but have moved 2000miles away. I would absolutely LOVE a demonstration and recipe, please 🙏🙏
I never considered an appelbeignet the same as an appelflap. Maybe it has to do with from what part of the country you’re from. They’re totally different and always have been. You made appelbeignet in this video. Nevertheless thank you. It’s fun watching how they’re made.
Thank you for explaining the history of appelflappen. My grandmother also used to peel the appels in one 'sliert' but had us stand behind her. Then if she made it in one piece, she would throw it over her shoulder and we could make a wish. Ik vraag me nog steeds af of ze het echt in één 'sliert' kon schillen. I've tried, but never succeed.

I know what you’re talking about, and will add it to the list of videos to make.
@@ToinesKitchen oh THANK YOU! My children will be thrilled! ❤️
Leuk deze video. Ik woon in AZ, en bij Sprouts verkopen ze ook Appelflappen (Apple Turnovers). Ben benieuwd of je ook een oliebollen recept heb
I do: ruclips.net/video/xKXXWOZ9ZJM/видео.html

What a wonderful memory!! And, perhaps my grandma didn't do it in "one sliert" either, but I certainly remember it that way!
@@ToinesKitchen I think that's why my Oma had us stand behind her, so we couldn't see...
Fijne Kerstdagen en Gelukkig Nieuw Jaar.
This a Day of thing or could I run it the night before and pop them in a low oven/toaster oven for a reup?
Best day off, but can be reheated in the oven!
Ik herinner me dat die lange slierten idd een doel was😂😂
