Thank you for the recipe, i love these. Living in sweden i'm lucky there are shops that sell them in 10 packs (i have to stop myself buying them as much as i'd like to). Looking forward to trying to make my own though. Funny about the warming up, i never knew that that was a thing at all, until i flew with KLM in october (they fly from my home town) and decided to buy some with my coffee on the flight and then reading the package of the waffles, it said to put them on top of your warm drink to warm them up. so i tried, was okay, didn't make much difference. i suppose a tiny little cup of airline coffee wasn't warm enough :P but it's funny to hear this wasn't a thing in the netherlands in the past, and now it's printed instructions on the stroopwafel package (in dutch and english).
I use chef choice ice conemaker and that is working well. It comes with a temperature setting. A pizzele maker works also but you donot have the stroopwafels pattern
Is the almond extract not giving an kind of artificial taste. It is why cheaper boterstaven sometimes taste funny. So making the spijs earlier is better?
We used all natural almond extract, no artificial flavors. But yes, when I have time, I make it without extract, and let it sit in the fridge for several days.
@@ToinesKitchen it could be that the Dutch almond extract has a bitter almond in the batch. Something that is supposed to be mandatory in making almondspijs and I just do not like it.
I did not have any when I visited Albert Cuypmarkt but I think it was a bit too early for it to have really got going. I had misjudged our schedule a bit, so we had to get moving! I did, however, watch someone through a shop window somewhere up the road from Van Stapele Koekmakerij cut one open and remembering saying to my wife "no way I would do that!" - well, maybe I can now :) (Van Stapele was another place we did not have time to try, so that's on my "still to do" list as well!)

Funny that you mention that putting a stroopwafel on your cup of coffee is foreign to you. At home we've always done it. We also wrapped amandelstaaf in aluminium foil and place it on top of our wood furnace in the living room. That stuff is the best when it's hot
I think that putting the stroopwafel on top of a tea or coffee mug is new. I asked my almos 90 year old mom and she never saw this in NL before. I suspect that the 2 large Dutch industrial manufacturers have used this idea to open into new markets. Here in Spain they are called “tapatés” which translates into tea covers. They have become incredibly popular now everywhere and I think it’s just a great marketing job by distinguishing this cookie from all the others.
I like stroopwafels but ‘n speculaasje, daar vecht ik voor!! Met ‘n kop koffie!! I did read somewhere, that you have to warm up your stroopwafel on your cup of coffee!! Never knew that!

I just received my Palmer Belgian cookie iron and I want to begin using it this weekend. Also I mill all my own flour. What is a good alternative flour to all purpose flour?

Have you ever made them using cake or pastry flour, to simulate the Zeeuwse flour? I don't know about warming up the stroopwafel, some do, some don't. Our family did, on a hot cup of something or on the gas heater stove.
Hi Toine, I'm from Denmark and I have some problems finding the brown sugar. I have tried to use Danish brown farin sugar but it wasn't good. Do you know if the light brown muscovado sugar can be used instead of brown sugar?
If your making them at scale - do you have to spread the syrup immediately individually after cutting them in half or can you do it all at once when they’re all cut open and spread syrup for the whole yield.

The heating over a cup of coffee is probably geographical feature. My friend who spent quite some time in Groningen told me already 20 years ago that this is the right way to do it. When I was in Nijmegen, can't say quite the same area, this was also seen as traditional. So, I don't know. :) As to the iron, every time I was in the Netherlands I just could not find a normal, gas-heated double-sided waffle maker, with which you don't even have to cut - just snap it open really quickly and the waffle splits from the steam inside - just seal them with the syrup, as the legend has it the original scenario was, and then scrape off when they cooled down a bit.. Saw these used once in a Christmas Market in Prague, prepared by the Dutch guy from Driebergen (?), smiled and joked all the way through but refused to sell one at the end, and he had like five :))

from the Netherlands!
Excellent video and presentation. They look so delicious that now I want one. Cheers!
What's the temperature of the Palmer?
The Palmer doesn’t have a temperature control on it.
Thank you for the recipe, i love these. Living in sweden i'm lucky there are shops that sell them in 10 packs (i have to stop myself buying them as much as i'd like to). Looking forward to trying to make my own though.
Funny about the warming up, i never knew that that was a thing at all, until i flew with KLM in october (they fly from my home town) and decided to buy some with my coffee on the flight and then reading the package of the waffles, it said to put them on top of your warm drink to warm them up. so i tried, was okay, didn't make much difference. i suppose a tiny little cup of airline coffee wasn't warm enough :P
but it's funny to hear this wasn't a thing in the netherlands in the past, and now it's printed instructions on the stroopwafel package (in dutch and english).
Great job!
Thank you! Eet Smakelijk!
Can you use a pizzelle waffle iron??
Yes, but you probably should not close it all the way, because it would be too thin
I have a pizzelle iron. Can I use that?
Yes. But you may have to play with it a bit to get the right thickness.
@@ToinesKitchen I’m wondering since I see that the stroopwafel is a dough where pizzelle is a batter.
I use chef choice ice conemaker and that is working well. It comes with a temperature setting. A pizzele maker works also but you donot have the stroopwafels pattern
Ice cream cone makers and pixels irons work also, but from my experience, the Palmer works best.
This looks like a great Dessert recipe but I feel like some people might try making this for breakfast lol
Onwijs bedankt!
Something that is supposed to be mandatory in making almondspijs and I just do not like it.
bravo
Thank you
Can it be done without brown sugar?
Not really, no.
Loved your recipe and presentation. Excellent all around.
Regards from San Jose, CA
Zal ik zeker uitproberen, groeten uit Suriname
Laat me weten hoe ze gelukt zijn!
I did not have any when I visited Albert Cuypmarkt but I think it was a bit too early for it to have really got going. I had misjudged our schedule a bit, so we had to get moving! I did, however, watch someone through a shop window somewhere up the road from Van Stapele Koekmakerij cut one open and remembering saying to my wife "no way I would do that!" - well, maybe I can now :)
(Van Stapele was another place we did not have time to try, so that's on my "still to do" list as well!)
It definitely looks harder than it is. I guess you should plan a visit back to The Netherlands :)
@@ToinesKitchen I suppose I shall be forced to return ;) (maybe once I have run out of pepernoten!)
Hello! i was wondering of this tastes exactly like the stroopwafel kraam in the markt. I tried out many recipies and they all didnt tasted like the ones in the markt
I believe these come pretty close, honestly.
What a great video! Keep up the good work.
Helemaal top!! Great job❤🇳🇱😊
Dankjewel
Goedendag.
www.bol.com/nl/nl/p/stroopwafelijzer/9300000025298708/
www.bol.com/nl/nl/p/cloer-stroopwafelijzer-1641s-voor-stroopwafels/9300000143959898/?bltgh=j2AJRms8XWsc9kHj-WpMCw.ld3p-27w8S3zSowKoRdAvA_0_4.5.ProductTitle
Those out the palmer look absolutely fantastic! Could be a good Christmas request 👀
Hup Holland HUP!
Funny that you mention that putting a stroopwafel on your cup of coffee is foreign to you. At home we've always done it. We also wrapped amandelstaaf in aluminium foil and place it on top of our wood furnace in the living room. That stuff is the best when it's hot
We do warm up amandelstaaf … that is so good warm. We never did the coffee cup thing in my family and friend circles.
@@marcdecockbuning1520 ooh, I love that theory :)
Do you use real butter or margarine
Real Butter, I have never tried it with margarine.
Drrrrrrrrrrrrrooooooooooolllllllllllll……! 🤤
I like stroopwafels but ‘n speculaasje, daar vecht ik voor!! Met ‘n kop koffie!!
I did read somewhere, that you have to warm up your stroopwafel on your cup of coffee!! Never knew that!
Never heated them on the cup either! Didn't know about it until I moved to the US
Glad I’m not the only one ! 😀
Where can you buy the Waffle Iron in the US and Internationally? Thank you!
Superfine sugar is this Icing Sugar? From Sydney Australia
Your syrup is a caramel here in Sydney we have recipes for caramel very similar
It's caster sugar, not sure what that's called in Australia :(
Nicely done brother!
Thanks for the video. I'm moving to the Netherlands when I retire from my job in 3 1/2 years. I want to learn everything I can about the Dutch culture including cooking Dutch food. I just received my Palmer Belgian cookie iron and I want to begin using it this weekend. Also I mill all my own flour. What is a good alternative flour to all purpose flour?
Love from India.❤
Had this when i was 10.
From Dubai (Tofiluk Gandour Carmel waffle)
Loved it so much.
Sadly never had it after moving to India.
This looks delish, I wish we could smell the awesomeness… I most definitely put my stroopwafels on my hot drink, of course when I was young microwaves didn’t exist 😊
Toine, I love your channel, I hope you get settled in a new house soon so we can enjoy new videos.
Fijne feestdagen 🎁✨
Zeeuwse Bolus?.

I am from Azerbaijan. And I very very like stroopwafels only yours country.
The heating over a cup of coffee is probably geographical feature. My friend who spent quite some time in Groningen told me already 20 years ago that this is the right way to do it. When I was in Nijmegen, can't say quite the same area, this was also seen as traditional. So, I don't know. :)
As to the iron, every time I was in the Netherlands I just could not find a normal, gas-heated double-sided waffle maker, with which you don't even have to cut - just snap it open really quickly and the waffle splits from the steam inside - just seal them with the syrup, as the legend has it the original scenario was, and then scrape off when they cooled down a bit.. Saw these used once in a Christmas Market in Prague, prepared by the Dutch guy from Driebergen (?), smiled and joked all the way through but refused to sell one at the end, and he had like five :))
Cool
I am just checking your videos. Everything is nice. Upload more cooking videos.
Eggroll iron works well too!
my Dutch family has always put them on a hot drink
Netherlands the Red, White, Blue Flag
oh yeah the kruimels, they used to go for 50 guilder cents without syrup too in paper "patatzak" style bags
These came out hard, like a ginger bread cookie, even after trying it twice. What am I doing wrong?
😍😍😍
I am 2 things... Dutch... and hungry. xD
