    The problem with hec is that he is the perfect definition of what a laner expects of a jungler. He can clear fast so your laner can't ping your xp gap. He can gank lanes with cc so your laners can follow the gank. He can engage so your team can follow. He can duel well because of his AOE and bonus healing when more enemies are in his W. He has good peel with his E and R so you can protect your Adc. Ultimately he does enough damage with Q so he can carry gapped laners. Hecarim is the definition of everything your 0/10 yasuo is complaining about.

    Hecarim has the pre-rework Maokai problem. For context before Maokai got updated in the mid season tank update, Maokai was described as a generalist champion, a champion who could do a little bit of everything, in Maokai’s case, he can peel, engage, do damage etc. while also not having a really defined weakness. The problem with that was the moment Maokai was powerful he was everywhere but the moment he is weak he has no presence. This is why Maokai was reworked in 2017 and was defined more for his engage and being an anti caster to make him less of a generalist. This is a similar case for Hecarim, where he can do a little bit of everything: burst, consistent damage, tankiness, mobility, cc, etc., but again like old Maokai if he gets too weak he can’t do much.

    Hecarim used to be a very bad duelist who's prone to being invaded. That compensated for is unusual excellency at both ganking and clearing. The jungle had less sustain in earlier seasons too, so even with his W, Hecarim often fell low on HP while clearing. If he went for a full clear, by the time he was finished, he wouldn't have the HP to gank.
    Recent seasons indirectly fixed all those weaknesses. There's so much sustain in the jungle nobody gets low HP during clears, that allows Hecarim to full clear and stay full HP. He don't have to choose between ganking and farming anymore, he does both. In addition, with all junglers finishing their clears with more HP, invades become riskier to pull off as a healthier enemy jungler takes longer to kill and, therefore, is more likely to get collapsed on by his teammates.
    Last, but not least, conqueror singlehandedly fixed Hecarim's early skirmish weakness. With all of his main weaknesses removed, he got into a state where he is either top tier or his numbers are so low he is not worth picking. For Hecarim to become mid tier he'd have to lose conqueror somehow and the jungle will have to shift in a way it is more early bullying friendly.

    One big reason he also is so permabroken is how his E works. Every other champions damage can be dodged or mitigated in some way. See fizz q or qiyana e-q which can be flashed. But Hecarims damage has literally zero counterplay. It is just so damn inevitable. You cant flash or cc cancel or do anything to stop him E'ing onto you, and even if by some miracle you can through like an azir wall he still has that r button to guarantee it goes through anyways. He is the ultimate stat checker which you can't ever outplay.

    • @robertfaucett647
      @robertfaucett647 2 года назад +5

      I agree that it is a little difficult to play around and he is Stat checky. but once hec jumps using his E it doesn't auto track. Any well timed dash blink or flash actually negates it. As a hec player I actually have to keep an eye out for those abilities early game so I don't waste a majority of his dmg and cc. As for late game... yeah he's busted with ult.

    Catchers and Wardens are pretty much the same but:
    Catchers: create debuff areas that give their partners space to get in basically are *agressive*.
    Wardens: create buff areas for your partners to be in what makes impossible for the enemies to get in that area they are *defensive*.
    If that is the case ivern would not be an warden and a catchers his q is more of a catcher ability his w is a warden ability and his e and r are balanced between defensively and offensively.

    Its kinda sad that hecarim is this way, i liked his playstyle a lot, fast horse goes wroom bonks and dies\kills but i dont like playing op or weak champions, just something near average power level. Atleast he is not conceptually broken like a good quarter of champ roster, there were so many situations where i was losing 1v1 to half hp bruisers that were behind me in items, especially with phase rush.

  • @orange1890

    a small fix that came into mind was when u mentioned that everything he has is almost point and click. so here's my random solution: q does 110% (of how much ever the base damage right now is) damage in front of hecarim and 80% damage behind him
    this won't change his ganks or his dives but would affect his consistent aoe damage and give an element of aiming to his 1 dimensional kit

She can poke, heal, apply passive shields, be a troll to enemy laners, has a super-ultimate that can CC a number of opponents, all with the benefit of choosing whether she wants to be targetable or not. I don't think Hecarim could change from being so volatile unless he was reworked. Because he directly converts tempo into combat pressure, He's custom built to be the ultimate jungler and anytime that that tempo is a little bit too much combat pressure it feels really oppressive. So without fundamentally changing the way his kit works and the way that he works as a character he will remain the same way at just as volatile

    Hey Vars I have a nice video idea for you. This is about how lifesteal or omnivamp be and this is pretty interesting one because items that give you omnivamp was designed for spell casters that needs sustain in their kit or ap bruisers but right now it is nearly only used by the ap bruisers and skirmisher. Skirmishers using it because they can use omnivamp for the fullest potential because of their 1 targetable abilities.Since they most of the time do not deal with omnivamps 33 percent penalty on AOE abilities they use it better than the spell casters that require sustain in their kit. Another thing is that the champs that has sustain in their kit cannot use omnivamp at their fullest potential while some other characters can which makes nonsustaining champs do a better job than a sustaining champion. For example riven has no sustain in her kit but with 1 gore drinker she can heal like how aatrox can because of her auto attacks are not affected by 33 percent penalty and she is basically having a stat that she is balanced for not having it. Should items give a healing boost rather than straight healing or this system is good right now. I really want to hear your thoughts about this. Love ur content

    Hecarim was the reason I started to play jungle. He is such a solid design with a really easy and fun kit. Besides these buffs Heca received a few weeks back, I believe the last time I've seen him this strong was runes got reworked for the first time (season 5?). Thunderlord Hecarim was so OP at the time and then he was nerfed to the ground. Then, next time he became "relevant" was the following rework the runes and "predator" Heca was a thing. The problem was he was so weak, any other champion that ran predator was doing better, then predator was nerfed to the ground and he was kinda forgotten until recently.

    FWIW Vars, I think if a champion is only played when overtuned, that makes it a Why No One Plays. You have covered champions in that series with playrate spikes during such periods already, Hecarim just gets those spikes more than most.

  • @Dabutterboi

    as of this patch 13.2 hecarim is 47% win rate, i would argue that the champ isnt as simple as he seems. Of he just r's in with assassin build he often doesnt actually oneshot the adc. with the assassin playstyle you need to be VERY clean with your Q's and movement, if you mess up E once you just die

    • @lashedandscorned
      @lashedandscorned Год назад

      True. Heca is a simple champ with a simple, easy to understand kit, but properly utilizing it to it's full potential is hard.
      Heca was completely braindead during preseason, but it's very different nowadays. Even when very fed, you still have to be very clean with your movement & not get hit by CC. In addition, knowing when/how to use E and W. Baiting out/dodging abilities (with E), faking your E, comboing E with your ult to instantly switch target, etc. I can't say the same about other champions that become unkillable when fed regardless of skill.
      Couple months ago you'd usually be running radiant virtue which let you play as a very tanky bruiser, able to tank 5 people if you're fed enough. Now I just run eclipse or duskblade & clean up enemy backline. Died a lot & played poorly when I made the switch to a more assassin orientee playstyle because my movement was bad (radiant virtue functioned as a crutch).

    See the problem is that most bruiser type champs lack in mobility, hecarims thing IS mobility, while also having decent cc healing and damage he’s a jack of all trades with no real weakness, so if he’s not weak then he’s strong af

      I think u mean "Juggernaut" when u said "bruiser". Because the last time I check, Irelia and Camille are also "bruiser", and they're, by any mean, immobile.

    • @Yee-Haw_Bird
      @Yee-Haw_Bird 2 года назад

      He’s a diver. It’s in their archetype to have strong/reliable engage, decent cc and some form of either sustain or mitigation that allowed them to fight their way out after getting on the primary target. This makes them almost by definition jack of all trades. The only thing most of them lack is teammate utility. You can do almost anything on them. Either a wukong situation where you are a bruiser 99% of the time. Rengar can decide between one shotting anyone and outhealing a mundo. And j4 who either sits there for hours in a fight or dies instantly.

Yis are always trying to get as much Alpha strike cheese in as possible and the bug...well yeah...

    You often make the point that Jg technically doesn’t have to interact with the other jungles, but I find this to be false. A good jungler won’t just farm their own camps when they’re ahead, thus being in the other jg’s “lane”. Not every jg will let you farm your camps til 6 and farm, and invades are more and more common lately I find

    I've never understood why Hecarim gains damage while building movement speed but doesn't lose it when slowed. From an adc main standpoint I'll always permaban Hecarim when he's strong and/or my team doesn't want to first pick him, because if I don't I simply don't get to play the game, just because the fucking horse will perma dive me in every fight while my team of randoms does nothing about it.

    I feel that Hecarim has too much going on kinda like Warwick does. They are such effective junglers that they will never be really bad at doing their job. Attack speed, healing, movement speed, cc, fear etc... they have the TP (total package). When nerfed however, i almost never see Heca and i wish it would stay that way because i feel that even when nerfed, he's still a very viable jungler.

    I think Hecarim's problem is his speed and durability. No other bruiser is that fast, imagine for a moment if Darius or Illaoi were as fast as Hecarim. No one who is fast, is that durable for free. Perhaps if they balance Hecarim as some sort of.....squishier skirmisher of some sort, trade durability for speed. Or make him less fast to keep his bruiser/fightery role but...I doubt anyone would like that since he's iconic for speed and being a horse, iconic fast animals.
